Treatments -Garnier - Sleek and Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment
kellybethga 2/2/2013 11:37:00 AM
I like to straighten my fine, dry, curly hair. I used very little of this and it didn't help with frizz AND made it look oily. I had to wash the heck out of my hair to get it out. And hated the smell, which I think is comparable to men's cologne, and very strong.

Mascara -Christian Dior - DiorShow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum

Just bought another tube at about $30 with tax....and it's worth it. Just can't beat the volume and length that this gives underneath ANY mascara. It's a fabulous primer, however, I don't think it does much as far as actually growing lashes longer; it didn't for me anyway.

Mascara -Maybelline - Illegal Length Fiber Extensions
kellybethga 2/15/2012 10:21:00 PM
Thought I'd give this a try on my endless perfect mascara hunt. It's OK. Doesn't clump or flake BUT doesn't lengthen spectacularly either. NO volume. I like my Loreal Voluminous False Fibers better. I see NO fibers in this so I'm surprised they advertised "spectacular 4mm fibers"!!!! Where are they? I have no faith in allure's reviews after they recommended this. Totally driven by sponsor dollars. I should always come to makeupalley first!!

Concealers -Bobbi Brown - HOW2 Apply BB's Corrector/Concealer
kellybethga 1/9/2012 2:01:00 AM
For bluish hereditary undereye circles - Love it, but it's definitely not the easiest to apply. I use an eye cream first (liking Olay Total Effects Eye Transforming cream right now). I use an artist's paint brush that's a little narrower than your typical concealer brush to apply and then blend with my finger. You absolutely MUST use a setting powder. I bought the Bobbi Brown powder in white but I think it's a little too light and have found my bare minerals mineral veil to be a great substitute - I end up with an undereye that looks almost "airbrushed". If you don't use a setting powder, even one smile will have it settling into your fine lines. I have the corrector in bisque but find I really only need the concealer (ivory) because it covers so well. This lasts all day and doesn't settle into lines or cause your mascara to run. I originally had the porcelain concealer but after we got a dog and I've walked him every day for a year, even though I wear sunglasses and sunscreen, my skin has gotten darker enough that the porcelain gave me the "reverse raccoon" effect. I have very fair glow-in-the-light-of-the-moon skin.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous False Fiber Lashes
kellybethga 11/18/2011 11:17:00 AM
Absolute best mascara I've ever tried, including some that cost twice as much. I love Dior Primer but this is my HG mascara. UPDATE: As I've seen so many people comment on this giving them raccoon eyes, I must say that I don't use it on my undereye. Since I don't want the fullness/falsie effect on my lower lashes I use Rimmel's SuperLash. I don't have any trouble with flaking using it on upper lashes only.

Treatments (Eye) -Olay - Professional Pro-X Eye Restoration Complex

Used up the whole container and it did nothing. Didn't do anything BAD, either - no irritation and went well under makeup. I suppose it's OK as a moisturizer but IMHO, very expensive for a drugstore brand.

Styling Products -Living Proof - (Spray) Straight Making No Frizz Styling Spray
kellybethga 9/27/2011 10:40:00 PM
I LOVED this, but the last bottle I bought (total of 3) seems to be less effective? I am wondering if they changed the formula. Previously this made my hair silky and straight and helped fight frizz. I use a lot in my long hair and it's really expensive, but I figured, what the heck, it works! The new bottle, I swear, is different. My hair seemed frizzier and more sticky, although the end result was OK. My favorite curling iron died, though, so I'm not sure who's the culprit (I don't like to straight iron all the way to the ends).

Mascara -Prestige - My Longest Lashes
kellybethga 9/27/2011 10:29:00 PM
Eh. Doesn't clump or smudge but didn't thicken or lengthen for me. My lashes are curly anyway so I can't comment on how it holds curl. I don't get the rave reviews.

Loose Powders -Laura Mercier - Mineral Powder SPF 15 Tender Rose
kellybethga 8/23/2011 1:17:00 PM
If you're pale with pink undertones, this is a fabulous color match. I've been a Bare Escentuals user for years but somehow my face has gotten a little sun even with using sunscreen, and Fairly Light is much too yellow for me. Tender Rose is perfect!!! I like also that it's got more of a dewy appearance than BE and that the container is bigger - much less product ends up on your bathroom counter.

Sunscreen -Aveeno - Natural Protection Mineral Block Lotion SPF 30
kellybethga 5/15/2011 10:51:00 PM
I used this on my arms/shoulders/neck for a dog walk and it gave me a rash in the crooks of my arms. Quite a bad rash. I came here figuring I'd find other people with similiar experiences, so I'm surprised yall love this so much! I am VERY fair-skinned and I looked like I had reverse latex gloves on - pink hands and white arms after I washed my hands. Gotta return it. Update: I was hoping the rash was heat-related (GA), but I just can't get past the white cast. I bought a convertible recently so I've been using more sunscreen and this just doesn't do well at all. I have a PROMINENT white cast on my very fair skin, it pills if you try to rub it in to get rid of the white cast, it causes rashes, what else can be wrong???? I am so ticked that I bought 2 tubes of this due to a promotion. Do NOT BUY. P.S. It will leave whitish marks all over your dark interior car that are very hard to remove.

Lip Gloss -Smashbox - Aura
kellybethga 4/6/2011 9:58:00 PM
This is one of the very few lip glosses I've actually used up. Can't get any more product out of the tube. The shimmer is beautiful and doesn't look too glittery. Great alone or over a liptstick.

Styling Products -John Frieda - 3-day Straight Semi-Permanent Styling Spray
kellybethga 4/6/2011 9:42:00 PM
I tried this as a cheaper alternative to living proof's 'no frizz"....and I hate it. Whereas I had silky feeling hair with no-frizz, this feels like i have a ton of gel or hairspray in my hair and doesn't stay straight at all. In fact, I think I would be better off with NO product in my hair. I think it ADDS to curly and frizziness. Possibly I'm not the best candidate for this as I have fine curly hair that is mostly straightened with phytorelaxer. I would advise spending the extra $$$ on living proof....it lasted me 6 months so the price difference isn't all that bad.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
kellybethga 3/30/2011 10:56:00 PM
I gave this a 2 because it's an OK mascara. It didn't flake on me. BUT, and this is a big BUT, it did nothing for my lashes other than to paint them black. The wand is so huge it's like trying to cover your lashes with a bristly baseball bat. It didn't lengthen and most certainly didn't volumize. I tried to give it my sister, who has beautiful long lashes and was a previous lash blast user, and she turned me down because she'd found a better brand. I threw it in the trash after 2 uses. As a matter of fact, this is the worst mascara I've bought in a long time.

Mascara -Rimmel - Lash Accelerator
kellybethga 1/31/2011 10:20:00 PM
If you have lots of patience, this will create fairly long lashes. However, it doesn't just start out very wet. Even after having this for several months, it takes an EXTREMELY long time to dry. Using this on my lower lashes is not an option. It also gunks into your tear ducts at the end of the day. So, maybe as a special occasion mascara this might work.

Liquid -Unlisted Brand - Gabriel Cosmetics- Moisturizing Liquid Foundation
kellybethga 12/31/2010 11:30:00 AM
I have combination skin with a capital C. I had to have a total hysterectomy at 35 and I'm now on hormone replacement. I have rosacea that affects my nose & chin, making them very acne-prone. My forehead and cheeks are very dry. Now that it's winter and air is drier, the dry areas are pretty bad. Normally I use mineral powder foundation but that wasn't cutting it, so I bought the Gabriel foundation. It does give good coverage and doesn't irritate my skin, but I don't think a "moisturizing" foundation should give a matte finish. It contains kaolin which sucks the moisture from your skin. The good news is that the pale ivory is a great match for my very fair "glow in the moonlight" skin. And if you're looking to reduce shine, this is also great. If you want less coverage, it would be easy to mix this with moisturizer. Not really for me, but a quality foundation. **UPDATE** This foundation really does work well with moisturizer. I should listen to my own advice :)
