Moisturizers -Simple - Kind To Skin Vital Vitamin Day Cream
keldar 9/17/2012 2:34:00 PM
I usually use Olay moisturizers for day-to-day, but the Complete for Sensitive skin with SPF 15 was making my face really greasy throughout the day so I went on the hunt for something new. I passed on pretty much every other DS brand because I’ve tried them all, except this new one. It had all the claims that are music to my ears: hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, fragrance free etc. Coupled with the in-store coupon, I scooped this up with high hopes. Within 2 days of using this, along with a greasy face, small whiteheads popped up, the kinds I know are associated with using products that don’t agree with my skin. I gave it to my husband who has perfect skin so it may work for him but as for me, I’ll stick with my unclogging, if somewhat greasy looking (which can be managed with blotting) Olay Complete.

Tinted Moisturizer -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Tinted Moisturizer
keldar 9/17/2012 2:27:00 PM
Ok so I admit, I really should have known better when I bought this product. I was desperate to find a lighter base alternative to my regular foundation and was hmming and hawing between this and the Maybelline BB Cream. The reason I chose this was because, having very acne-prone skin, the PF touted the usual ‘hypoallergenic’ ‘non-comedogenic’ yada yada yada, while the Maybelline one only stated ‘oil-free’; usually Maybelline products will advertise if they are ‘non-comedogenic’, so the lack of this particular statement made me wary. Hence, I took a gamble with this product. I’d read many negative reviews and knew it was really iffy with my pale, yellow-toned skin, but I bought it anyway. As soon as I pumped out the first bit of product, I knew I’d made a mistake. The colour was NOTHING like the packaging implied: rather than a light, beige-yellow fair/ivory, it was a much darker, almost orangey-pink colour. I applied it anyway and was not surprised to find my face a pink-y tone, totally different my neck etc. Thank god I was able to bring it back and exchange it for my usual HG foundation, Revlon Colorstay in Buff. It’s too bad because the coverage of this stuff was light and sheer, and the consistency was OK, the pump dispenser was awesome, but the colour was just horrendous.

Moisturizers -Cerave - Moisturizing Lotion
keldar 9/17/2012 2:24:00 PM
Love this stuff. A plain jane, no frills moisturizer that actually moisturizes without breaking me out. Having acne means you usually use a lot of harsh products on your face and having the right moisturizer is key to keeping your skin from being overly red, irritated and flaky. The worst is trying to find something that will mitigate the harshness of Benzoyl Peroxide. I’ve tried using my Olay lotion, Spectro moisturizer and Daniel Kearns regime moisturizer (which I must say was runny and kind of useless). Cetaphil moisturizer broke me out so the Cerave moisturizer was a gamble (as I assumed it would be the same as Cetaphil). I was pleased to find this to be very moisturizing and it has not broken me out. It’s light, but heavier than the previously mentioned lotions, yet not so heavy as to feel like a cream. Over top of Benzoyl Peroxide this stuff keeps my skin relatively happy and moisturized, and severely lessens the burning that can be associated with BP. Great stuff!

Cleansers -Cerave - Hydrating Cleanser
keldar 9/17/2012 2:20:00 PM
I started using this along with the moisturizer because I wanted to find a more gentle cleanser for my acne-prone skin. I always use a makeup removing cleanser before my actual cleanser, so I never expected this stuff to remove makeup. I really love the way it feels on my skin, and like that it leaves your face feeling neutral once you’ve rinsed it off – not tight and dry and not overly greasy with residue, just nice soft skin. Unfortunately with my rebellious face, it was not ‘enough’ for me at night so I’ve started using this in the morning in the shower on my face, chest and back. If my skin ever clears up completely, I may try to use this again at night.

Concealers -Maybelline - Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles
keldar 9/17/2012 2:19:00 PM
Hands down the BEST under eye concealer I’ve ever used. It’s the only product I’ve tried that doesn’t cake or accentuate the fine lines around my eyes. I love the sponge-tip applicator as it doesn’t tug on the delicate skin around your eyes – I know some people question whether or not it’s hygienic but I only use it under my eyes on a clean face so I don’t worry about it too much and haven’t had any problems. It doesn’t work miracles here people, and I don’t know if any of the fancy anti-aging claims it makes actually work, but it conceals and doesn’t look unnatural and that’s all I care about.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Perfection Volumizing Mascara
keldar 9/17/2012 2:14:00 PM
Honestly, I thought this stuff was going to be crap. I used to use LashBlast religiously but it flaked SO MUCH throughout the day and eventually I couldn’t put up with it anymore. Having very light lashes means I’m always looking for something that’s going to darken them and add a good amount of volume, even during the day, and I was shocked at how well this stuff performs. It adds great colour, volume, definition and best of all doesn’t flake off. I like a lot of lashes at night so I wouldn’t recommend it for dramatic looks (unless you don’t wear a lot of makeup), but for day-to-day, it’s perfect!

Mascara -Revlon - Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara
keldar 10/6/2011 1:42:00 PM
So mascara is definitely one of those very personal types of cosmetic because what works for one or many may not work for you. That being said, I absolutely love this mascara. I never actually intended to try this newer version of the original Grow Luscious, firstly because in general I am not a fan of Revlon mascaras (although I love most everything else in their range) and secondly, because I already have the original Grow Luscious and while it's OK for DS mascara and good for when I don't want tons of lashes, I wasn't blown away or enticed into trying this newer version. Aaaanyway, I ended up buying this at PharmaPlus because it was on sale and came with a bonus liquid eyeliner pen which I was going to buy on its own anyway, so figured I might as well try the mascara essentially 'for free'. The ironic thing was that I ended up loving the mascara and hating the eyeliner haha. As some previous reviewers already stated, yes the brush is quite large and yes the formula is pretty wet, but I actually love it for both of these reasons. I am actually not a fan of super-individualized separation for my lashes - I like big, bold, black lashes and this brush/formula does just that. I get the impression that some people expect mascaras like these to make really skinny lashes massive, but you should probably just go buy yourself some falsies (and no, not that Maybelline crap).

Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - Spectro Jel 609
keldar 7/20/2011 3:58:00 PM
I absolutely adore this stuff. I have very tempermental acne-prone skin and have been on a quest to find the ‘perfect regime’ since I was about 13 (I’m now 29). First off, this will not remove your makeup and leave your face squeaky clean, so don’t expect it to. I use this only in the morning in the shower to remove any oil/dirt from my face but not strip any moisture. I use Benzoyl Peroxide in a thin layer every night with moisturizer on top, and so I need to soothe my skin in the morning while also cleansing – the stuff is the absolute best for that. In turn my skin, though still not perfect, has calmed down considerably and the dry flakey skin that can arise from regular BP use is no longer an issue. Also, on a side note, the moisturizer for blemish-prone skin is fantastic.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
keldar 5/24/2011 4:15:00 PM
I buy every new mascara that comes out but I just keep coming back to this one. I don't know what it is but it just gives me the best looking lashes hands down. I've tried other mascaras with similar synthetic rubber bristles but they never deliver as well as this one! The last two I tried were Maybelline's One by One and L'Oreal's Millions lashes (or whatever it's called) and they both couldn't hold a candle to Lash Blast for overall volume and length as well as separation - I always get a great 'fan' of lashes with LB and tonnes of volume (I usually apply a couple coats, esp. at night). I've tried the LB Fusion and didn't like it but the LB Luxe is fun for going out. Overall, this is definitely my current HG mascara as I reach for it more than any other in the pile of mascaras currently cluttering my vanity. Love love love.

Pressed Powders -Cover Girl - Clean Oil Control Pressed Powder
keldar 2/2/2011 1:50:00 PM
A lot of people seem to be upset that this doesn't offer any coverage or provide hours and hours of oil-control but I think they are expecting WAY too much - this is just a pressed powder people! If you want long lasting oil-control you have to find yourself a good foundation or a primer if you need it (my HG is Revlon Colorstay in Ivory for Oily/Combo skin). I personally LOVE this product! I am very pale and have oily, acne-prone skin. I used to use the sensitive version before they re-designed the packaging but switched to this one once it became available (and I still never see it at Shopper's or Pharma, they only carry the green and brown ones - I only find it at Loblaws and WalMart but that's fine as their prices are usually lower anyway). It is perfect for setting my makeup after I've applied my foundation and concealer. I use a big fluffy sigma powder brush and just lighty dust it over my whole face - sometimes I'll use the puff provided if I want to set any 'difficult' areas (aka blemishes) and then dust the brush over top to take off any excess. As a previous review mentioned it can look cakey if you pile it on, but as a finishing powder it works wonderfully for me and the Classic Ivory shade is perfect - I have NEVER had any troubles with it looking orange (although my shade is very light so maybe the darker ones have trouble) This is a staple for me and I always have one at my vanity and one in my purse for touch-ups. LOVE this stuff!

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst in Pink Sugar
keldar 1/31/2011 2:03:00 PM
Ok so I get what the previous reviewers have against this particular colour, but I have to say I love it!! I have been on the hunt for a flattering nude lipstick for what's seemed like an eternity. Everything either completely washed me out (yeah that's you MAC Myth and Gosh's Darling) or just made my lips look chalky and gunked up with lipstick. I am very very pale so I need something that has just a hint of pink to it, without being that terrible orange-y colour so many nudes have (Rimmel, other Revlon LS's). I was so excited to see this on display at Shopper's a little while back, and, even though I knew I was doing something bad, I peeled the sticker back to inspect the actual colour inside. I loved it and bought it immediately hoping it was going to be my go-to nude! Now granted, this does go on the lips a bit on the sheer side and I have to give it a few swipes to get the colour saturation I want. And yes, there is definitely some shimmer to it. I would have to say this is more of a lipstick-gloss hybrid, which actually is perfect for me. It means I can throw this on easy as pie whether I have time to apply it perfectly at my vanity or if I'm swiping it on after a drink or in my car. Overall, this is not going to totally nude-out your lips, but I think it's a beautiful colour, flattering, and feels good on. And at a good DS price to boot! I'm still going to try a few other nudes for when I want something with a little more pigmentation (I think I'm going to try either Creme Cup or Creme d'Nude by MAC) but I'll still keep this one on hand :)

Polishes -Rimmel - Lasting Finish Pro Enamel all shades, new square bottle
keldar 6/10/2010 1:42:00 PM
This nail polish is great - the colour selection is limited to pretty 'safe' colours, nothing neon or uber-trendy (althought the Steel Grey is modern, but still not wild) I've picked up the Steel Grey, French Cafe and a deep red colour I can't remember the name of. The brush is probably the best part - it's flat and wide and you only need a few strokes to evenly coat the nail surface. I usually use 1-2 coats of this (depending on the colour) and top it off with Revlon's Quick Dry top coat (which I cannot recommend highly enough). I did a self-pedicure 2 weeks ago like this and the polish is still intact, shiny and fresh-looking - the only reason I'm going to take it off this weekend is because I want to change the colour!

Mascara -Prestige - My Biggest Lashes
keldar 6/10/2010 10:05:00 AM
I actually bought this awhile ago and used it few times, with good results, but I have about 6 mascaras in rotation right now and it got pushed to the back for no particular reason. I was using what I thought was my HG (LashBlast) until I noticed over the last few days that it was flaking out huge an leaving black specs on my cheeks and face that looked like dirt! So this one came back to the forefront and honestly, it is one of the best DS mascaras I've tried. The brush is huge and fluffy and it coats, separates and volumizes my long blonde lashes really well. It's perfect as my daytime mascara; I haven't experimented with it yet as far as layering it on for night but I'll give it a try this weekend. Even if it doesn't give me enough nighttime drama, I will definitely repurchase as my go-to daytime mascara for my invisible lashes. Great stuff ☺

Top/Base Coats -Revlon - Quick Dry Top Coat
keldar 6/2/2010 4:13:00 PM
I LOVE this stuff! I bought it on sale on a whim after getting a pedicure a few weeks earlier and wanting to emulate the results and lasting power from the salon treatment. WOW is all I can say for this stuff - it dries nail colour really fast and provides a super shiny, hard, lustrous finish. I will never do my nails without using this again!
