Polishes -MAC - Light Affair
rated 3 of 5
kariwilson86 1/5/2010 9:14:00 PM

I saw this polish in the January edition of InStyle magazine, and instantly just had to have it! The first MAC store I went to it was sold out. The next MAC, I got the second last one. So I knew I wasn't the only person out there that found this grey, creamy lilac shade attractive. I love how quickly it dries, and the staying power is decent too. However, there is one major downfall for me. Not sure if it's my bad luck, but the application was horrible. It was SO streaky. I had to apply three coats. The third coat I had to gob it on in order for the streaks not to show. I probably wont buy anymore MAC nail polishes. For $16 and change (CDN), it isn't worth it.

Fragrances -Coty - Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker
rated 3 of 5
kariwilson86 1/29/2006 10:38:00 PM

I received this as a gift at Christmas, and I purposely waited awhile before making a review. I have a love/hate opinion of this fragrance. Each day I feel differently about it (wacky, I know.) Here is an example: Day 1 - LOVE it! Day 2 - I think it smells like an old lady Day 3 - reminds me of a men's fragrance Day 4 - cycle continues.... I'll admit, I realllly like the scent in my fabrics. I spray it on my pillowcases. Sounds a little odd, since the smell would be pretty strong, but quite the contrary. The scent fades pretty darn quickly....after 3 days the smell is almost completely gone! I like to use this for the daytime. Considering the price, the quality of the product does not add up. Will not repurchase.

Masks -Got 2 Be - In Your Face All Mixed Up Mash Mask
rated 4 of 5
kariwilson86 12/31/2005 2:04:00 PM

Amazing how a reasonably priced product, works so well! I am very impressed with this product. I left it on longer than the suggested 10 minutes, and got great results. I have been dealing with dry skin lately, and thought it would be a good idea to try out a hydrating mask, oppose to the oil absorbing ones I tend to use. It moisturized my face, and left it feeling soft and smooth. packaging is very convenient being upside down and with a flip-top lid. *I took off a lippie because I had a very difficult time rinsing it off. Probably best to use an exfoliator to get it all off.

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara Blackest Black
rated 4 of 5
kariwilson86 8/12/2005 6:29:00 PM

I have no idea why Great Lash mascaras get rated so poorly. IMO, they are one of the best sold in drugstores. The applicator may not be so great, but the formula (either it being washable or waterproof) is far superior to a lot of the ones on the market. There is a reason why so many makeup artists use this. Keep that in mind.

Mascara -Rimmel - Extra Super Lash (Curved Wand)
rated 3 of 5
kariwilson86 8/10/2005 8:04:00 PM

I now understand why this mascara was one of the cheapest. It's not very good. The formula is watery, and it started to flake a bit later on in the day. And it really doesn't thicken lashes, it just lengthens and kind of makes them bind together. My biggest problem is with the applicator. I should of bought the straight wand. The curve is stupid and actually makes me sqrew up more. Also, the formula gunks up at the tip. More then any other mascara I have tried. It gets quite annoying. This can be used in the daytime because it really doesn't create a dramatic look. One plus, hasn't given me raccoon eyes or smudged badly up to this point. I would recommend Maybelline's Great Lash over this.

Lip Gloss -L'Oreal - Color Juice Bubble Gum
rated 4 of 5
kariwilson86 8/10/2005 4:40:00 PM

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!! This is a hot gloss. Not sure I'll be able to pull it off in the winter, but with a tan it looks great! Smells awesome, has longevity, and no shimmer. Pretty good price too. It is a tad sticky though, but I think that's what helps it last longer. Definitely will repurchase. Nice packaging too. Though, I would prefer a wand applicator.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara
rated 2 of 5
kariwilson86 8/9/2005 7:54:00 PM

This is definitely a winner. I only have 2 complaints though, one being that it really does not thicken lashes at all, and two, it takes awhile to set. Otherwise for a drugstore product and for the quality and price, I would say it is well worth it. I will most likely repurchase. Just to add, I have the Dark Brown version. I find it works nicely when I want a look that is as natural as possible. UPDATE: this crap flakes all over the place. I loved how natural looking it was, but once I use my curler with it, my face becomes a mess with flakes. Blah, will not repurchse.

Hair Removal -Unlisted Brand - Veet's Bladeless Razor hair removal kit
rated 3 of 5
kariwilson86 8/1/2005 1:53:00 PM

Pros: scent was tolerable--no irritation--left skin feeling soft--removed most of the hair (about 97%). Cons: Hair grew back the next day, yet the regrowth was slower then if I had shaved. Considering the ridiculous price I payed for the product, I am not happy. It does not do a very good job for the bikini line, but satisfactory for legs and underarms. Didn't even bother to use the "razor". I used an exfoliating shower glove. I was really upset because I thought I had found my HG removing cream. I just can't figure out why my hair grows back so quickly??? Verdict: Will not repurchase. Going to try a Sally Hansen product once again. Either the new one (Extra strength hair remover lotion) or Lotion hair remover (looks like its in a sunscreen bottle)

Toners -Burt's Bees - Garden Tomato Toner
rated 4 of 5
kariwilson86 7/12/2005 12:27:00 PM

I had previously made a review years ago, and noticed that I feel very different about the product now to the way I did then. So why not update!? I still believe the smell of alcohol is very strong, yet it is not drying at all. Though, I do have oily-combo skin. I actually like the aroma, and find it very refreshing. It also leaves my skin very soft, but the downside is that it seems to leave a slightly sticky thin film. The only reason I continue to use this product is because of the results. It has transformed my skin. I have used glycolic acid produts in the past, but never got results anywhere near this. The skintone has evened out a lot. My pores are a lot smaller and cleaner!! The amount of breakouts I get have decreased significantly. It has helped slightly with oil. The price is reasonable for the amount of product and for what it does to the skin. The packaging is nothing special. I don't like the glass bottle, I'm always in fear of dropping it. Not so great to travel with. I will be repurchasing! RECOMMEND to people who: have oily skin, breakouts, uneven skintone (blotchiness), large pores, blackhead problems, and whoever wants an overall feeling of being clean. This stuff gets anything and everything your cleanser leaves behind!!

Tinted Moisturizer -Cover Girl - CG Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer in Light to Medium
rated 3 of 5
kariwilson86 7/2/2005 9:15:00 PM

If this product had just a bit more coverage, I would definitely repurchase this. The colour works nicely on me, especially when I am tanned. It also moisturizes quite well, and gives the added benefit of spf and vitamin E. It's not a HG for oily skin, but using a bit of powder will help a lot. IMO, I think there should be a bit more product, considering the price and that its CG. It's more realistic for me to continue purchasing my Olay moisturizer (which is awesome) and just adding some of my foundation to it to create a tinted moisturizer. I would recommend this to people who have normal to dry skin, with very little imperfections. Also young ladies who are starting to get into makeup, and anyone who dislikes heavy coverage.

Shampoo -Dove - Beautifully Clean Normal To Oily Hair
rated 3 of 5
kariwilson86 6/6/2005 10:08:00 PM

Pro's: Smells nice, and leaves my hair feeling clean. The price is acceptable for the amount and quality of the product. My hair is very very healthy looking, as if I used a high-end salon product. I see highlights which I thought were never there, but it could be from the conditioner??? Con's: leaves hair a bit raw feeling, and unfortunately the conditioner doesn't do much to smooth it out. Also, I find my hair to be quite flat. It's acceptable if I'm going for the straight look, but that's about it. And I don't like the way my hair feels afterwards. Its not soft nor detangled, but I guess I can blame that on the conditioner?? Verdict: I'll probably buy shampoo/conditioner again from Dove, but not this specific product. But also, I haven't even used half the bottle. So who knows? Maybe over time my hair will improve with more washes, and if it does I'll definitely come back and give an update.

Blush -Cover Girl - Cheekers in Classic Pink
rated 4 of 5
kariwilson86 4/29/2005 4:28:00 PM

I just love this pink!! Its perfect! So natural looking and flattering. It really is classic. The price was very acceptable for the overall quality. However, I am not impressed with the packaging. I'm not a fan of the rectangular shape, and the brush, its okay, but I prefer using my own, which is larger. For the scent, it is tolerable. The staying power is average, but definietly impressive for the price. I would definitely consider repurchasing.

Misc Beauty Tools -Quo - Round Makeup Sponges 100 per cent Styrene Butadiene Rubber
rated 5 of 5
kariwilson86 4/27/2005 3:30:00 PM

Loooove these sponges!! The best I have ever used!!! It makes my foundation look fabulous on my skin. It blends so well, and leaves me with no streaks or unevenness. In my opinion they were a little pricey at $5 CDN for only 12, but meh, they are worth it. I will never use anything else.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
rated 4 of 5
kariwilson86 4/27/2005 1:53:00 PM

The best mask ever!! I can't believe it costs me under $5 (CDN). And I actually get results. I apply it on my t-zone every other night, and I am virtually free of oilness and my pores are invisible!!! It also does a decent job for drying out small zits. It is a miracle product for oil, but be careful, you can easily dry yourself out. I haven't had one zit in my t-zone since using this overnight. Everyone should have a tube of this in their bathroom.

Crème -Cover Girl - AquaSmooth SPF15 Make-up
rated 3 of 5
kariwilson86 4/21/2005 4:19:00 PM

I bought this recently on sale for $9.99 (CDN) after I tried the samples first. I would suggest anyone who is about to purchase this product, make sure you get a shade that is in the neutral or warm category. Even if you have a cool skintone, I recommend you get a shade that is neutral. Firstly, the packaging and price is satisfactory. A bit pricey for such a little amount of foundation, and considering it isn't nearly a miracle product. The packaging is blah, nothing spectacular or cute. Typical for CG though. The actual product itself, I would recommend to people who have normal, or slightly oily skin. Its really hard to work with dryness with this product. The flakes can really show up with this. Though, if your skin is just dry and not flaking, you may reallly like this because it's pretty moisturizing without being too oily. The staying power is decent. As long as I use a loose powder after application, I'm usually fine for the day. BTW, I have oily skin. Also, I recommend this to anyone with nearly perfect skin. It's fine for evening out tone, but the coverage is light, though it is buildable and can give a medium coverage. I really like this because it is easy to apply and takes me minutes not hours to blend to make it even. I also like the texture, and the fact it doesn't leave me oily , shiny or too powdery looking. Also, it does settle in to lines on the face. It looks pretty crappy when I use it under my eyes. I'll probably repurchase this in the future. I am currently using Creamy Natural. UPDATE: Lately I have been just using this as a concelear. Also, I think the shade has too much grey in it.
