Scrubs -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Wash pink grapefruit foaming scrub
kap112358 12/16/2012 12:31:00 AM
This is AWFUL. I bought this because I needed a scrub in a pinch and it smelled delicious - within a week it had tried out my skin to the point where it was actually flaking off! Maybe for incredibly oily skin this would be effective, but not for combination skin!

Cleansers -Ponds - Chamomile & White Tea Cleansing Cloths

I LOVE these wipes! Every time I use them I am amazed at how easily they remove my eye makeup. I use waterproof mascara often, and I used to have to scrub my eyes with the wipes I was using before (Clean and Clear). These are like a micracle - my skin feels so soft and clean after using them and they smell nice, too. Definitely recommend! (Plus they are cheap compared to other brands - each package is 30 wipes instead of 25 like most brands and they are usually on sale; I got mine buy 1 get 1 free!)

Lipstick -Urban Decay - Peroxide
kap112358 8/20/2012 1:10:00 PM
I have been on the hunt for a nice pale pink. It's nearly impossible for most pink lipsticks to show up since my lips are ridiculously pigmented. I ordered "peroxide" thinking that it might work; I love Urban Decay and have almost always been impressed with their quality. I normally would not spend that much on lipstick, since I don't wear it much, but when it when on sale for $8 I figured I'd give it a try. In the tube it looks like a pretty demure, nude pink...on the lips, however, it gives a sickly frosty color. I first applied this just over chapstick and it kind of washed out and frosted over my lips...not attractive. I thought it might have been because my natural lip color was interfering with the lipstick, so I tried it over a lip primer. The results were even worse! I looked like a corpse! I have tried mixing this with other lipsticks, but I just cannot get this to work for me. I gave it two stars because it did feel very creamy and was somewhat opaque on my lips. I would try this lipstick in another color but this will definitely be returned.

Tools -Urban Decay - Grind House (sharpener)
kap112358 8/10/2012 11:49:00 AM
I got this in a kit with two of the 24/7 liners (which I'm obsessed with...) but for the longest time it was just shoved in the bottom of my makeup bag. I was afraid to use it because I'd destroyed pencils before by using a bad sharpener, and the UD pencils are NOT cheap. I finally used it, however, and I definitely recommend it! I was able to get a good tip on the pencil without shaving off too much of the product or breaking the tip. I think it retails for $10 which is a little pricey, but you really won't need to replace it until it breaks or if it wears down after years of use.

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Midnight Cowboy
kap112358 8/10/2012 11:43:00 AM
I've heard so much about this eyeshadow and it seems people love it or hate it. I didn't want to spend $17 for the single shadow since it had such mixed reviews, but I finally got to try it the The Feminine palette. I'm glad I didn't buy it alone...I don't understand why this is so popular. It's terribly glittery, and seconds after I apply it, it's fallen down my cheeks. I expect some fallout with any glitter polish, but this seemed like a lot (I did use it with UDPP, too). All in all, I just don't get what's so special about Midnight Cowboy. I gave it two stars because it IS a pretty color, and the texture is nice aside from the glitter. I love UD eyeshadows, but this is comparable to cheap drugstore eyeshadow.

Liquid -L'Oreal - Visible Lift Serum Absolute Advanced Age-Reversing Makeup
kap112358 7/26/2012 12:56:00 PM
I borrowed this from my mom after a vacation where I got some color (my mom is a few shades darker than me) in Nude Beige. I'm 20 so anti-aging benefits are great, but I really don't need them. That being said, I know most anti-aging products are very hydrating, which is good for a makeup for me since I have dry/combination skin. Anyway, I applied this with ELF's flat topped powder brush (which you need if you don't already have it). I was amazed at how great my skin looked! I've avoided liquid foundations since a bad experience in high school, but this one is GREAT. I would say it has medium to full coverage, but be warned when you're building it to full, I did notice it got a bit cakey when too much is applied. That being said, the coverage is very natural and dewy looking. It looks like your skin...but better. Used with a primer (I use Korres' Pomegranate primer) and set with powder it lasted all day. In fact it seemed to look even more natural as the day went on! It also advertises that there is actually a serum inside the makeup. This seemed very gimmicky to me, so I really didn't expect anything. I was surprised, however, to see that my skin actually started to look better after using this for about a week. I don't have major problems with my skin, but I do have clogged pores on my chin that I just can't get rid off. This hasn't completely solved it, but they aren't as swollen or red anymore, and a few of them have disappeared without more appearing! I don't know if this is because of the serum, but I haven't switch any skin care products recently. Overall, I recommend for those with dry or mature skin! EDIT: I re-purchased this in the bottle with the pump, and the formula seems VERY different! It's much thicker and cakes a lot easier...the pump gets clogged often. It also seems less moisturizing... Very disappointed! I will not repurchase again.

Mascara -Clinique - Lash Doubling Mascara
kap112358 7/9/2012 12:05:00 PM
I also gets samples of Clinique mascara from Macy's and I have not liked a single one. This is probably the worst of the bunch. The formula is extremely watery and about an hour after wearing I have clumps of mascara on my eye ball...not good, especially since I wear contacts. Just horrible. There are way better mascaras out there - don't waste your money on this one!

Primer/ Corrector -Korres - Korres Pomegranate Mattifying Face Primer
kap112358 7/9/2012 12:03:00 PM
I got a sample of this from Sephora and the first time I tried it, I wasn't impressed. While it did seem to help my makeup last throughout the day, and helped to minimize pores, I didn't see any mattifying qualities at all. I don't have super oily skin, but my nose usually gets shiny about halfway through the day. I liked the way this felt on my skin, however, and I kept using it. I noticed that after using it every day for a week it seemed to work better! It kept my skin from getting oily longer, and when it did, it was less oily. I also like that it doesn't have silicone in it, as too much silicone tends to irritate my skin. With this and the Maybelline Dream Smooth foundation, my skin looks nearly perfect! If you're looking for a good primer without silicone - try this!

Misc Beauty Tools -Olay - Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System
kap112358 7/9/2012 11:58:00 AM
Like most of the other reviewers, I bought this in the hopes that it would be similar to the Clarisonic in all ways but the price. I haven't tried the Clarisonic, but I quite like the Pro-X brush! It really helps to get all of my makeup off at night and makes my skin super soft. I only use it at night, because it irritates my skin too much to use it twice a day. I usually use it with Biore's Pore Unclogging scrub, and that has worked to keep my skin nice and clear. I've only noticed a slight difference in my blackheads, but this definitely helps keep pimples away. It also seems to speed up recovery time for the occasional pimple I do get. I've also used it a couple of times with a cream cleanser from TheBalm on days when my skin feels particularly dry - my skin was ridiculously soft the next day! If you're considering this, I would definitely recommend it!

Crème -Maybelline - Dream Smooth Mousse
kap112358 7/9/2012 11:53:00 AM
Despite the negative reviews, I really wanted to try this foundation. I don't like liquids because they feel heavy, but powders don't offer enough coverage, so it seemed as though a cream foundation would be perfect for me. I LOVE this foundation! It's very creamy, and very easy to blend. I apply it using the ELF Powder Brush and buff it all over my face. It makes my pores completely disappear! I would describe the coverage as medium, however it can be adjusted depending on how much you apply to be lighter or heavier. On days when my face is being particularly problematic, I switch to the CoverGirl AquaSmooth compact, which gives more complete coverage. I do use a setting powder to make it last, but I haven't had any problems with fading or smearing - I also touch up with powder through the day and it never looks cakey. I'm definitely going to purchase again once I run out! EDIT: Still love it, but after a month of use without a primer, I got several flesh-colored bumps on my chin... I started using a primer (Korres' Mattifying Pomegranate Primer) underneath it and this has made a huge difference.

Mascara -Bare Escentuals - buxom lash
kap112358 7/9/2012 11:47:00 AM
This came in a set I bought from Sephora (Buxom makes great value kits - they're affordable and most of the time the products are full sized; great if you already love Buxom or want to try the brand). I wasn't really expecting much when I tried it, the packaging was pretty boring and I didn't recall hearing any stellar reviews about it. I have to say, I was impressed. The wand is a little bulky, but I find that it really coats every single one of my lashes! They look so huge! Although it's a little messy to apply (the formula isn't as thick as other mascaras I've tried), once it's dry I have no problems with flaking or smearing. I only wish that they made this waterproof!

Tinted Moisturizer -Cover Girl - CG Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer Fair to Light
kap112358 7/9/2012 11:42:00 AM
I bought this because it was on sale for $4 at CVS and I love the AquaSmooth compact makeup. This, however, was a major disappointment. First of all, this product is SO greasy! I know TMs are supposed to be moisturizing, but this made my face look disgusting (and I don't have very oily skin!). This also provided absolutely zero coverage - my skin tone still looked uneven and I think it even accentuated my pores...not a good look. The one good thing I can say about it, is that the lightest shade was a good match for my skin tone, I find a lot of TMs to be very yellow-tinted, and this was much more pink. Overall I would definitely not buy again; this is being returned.

Scrubs -Simple - smoothing cleansing scrub
kap112358 6/21/2012 9:43:00 AM
I needed a scrub and this product promised to be gentle and moisturizing, so I figured I'd try it. I like the idea of a scrub also being moisturizing, since I don't want to over-dry my combination skin. I like that the granules are quite small (before purchasing this I tried the St. Ive's Apricot scrub...not for me at ALL), and it seemed surprisingly gentle and effective. I don't really know if it was "moisturizing" but my skin did feel very soft after use. I'm not crazy about the smell, though, it smelled pretty chemical-y for a natural product. It was an effective scrub, but it wasn't anything spectacular, so once I use this up I'll probably try something new.

Moisturizers -Simple - Replenishing Rich Moisturiser
kap112358 6/21/2012 9:36:00 AM
I have combination skin so finding the right moisturizer had always been a challenge. I need something that is going to moisturize the dry parts enough that there's no redness or flaking, but also something that isn't so heavy it makes my nose and forehead greasy: this is the product! I've never found a moisturizer that works as well as this. I use it only at night (I like my day moisturizers to have SPF) and I wake up in the morning with smooth, perfect skin. My skin has literally never looked better. It sinks it quickly after drying, so it never feels greasy. It does have a thinner texture that I expected, but it's not too runny. I actually really like the packaging, too; I'll be able to use it to the last drop. The only thing I would note as a negative, however, is that this product seems to be marketed for super dry skin, but I don't think this would be enough moisture for those looking for a heavy-duty moisturizer. That being said, it is perfect for those with combination skin! I will definitely be repurchasing, though because the bottle is a generous size (4.2 oz or something), I'll be using this one for a while.

Moisturizers -Cerave - Moisturizing Lotion
kap112358 1/21/2012 2:12:00 PM
I used to use a moisturizer from Dove that came in a small bottle with a blue cap but they discontinued it so I had to try a different one. I found this for about $12 for a huge bottle and it does the job. I like the pump dispenser, but it does seem to push out way more product than I really need for just my face. It goes on smoothly, but about an hour after I put it on my face felt SUPER greasy. It was disgusting. I dabbed it off and it didn't seem to get greasy again but it was bizarre. So it did the job until I found another lotion I liked better, but I wouldn't go look for it again.
