Hair Color -Garnier - Herbashine
kalicalifornia 7/21/2011 9:14:00 PM
After attempting to lighten my dark ash blonde roots with ClaIrol Perfect 10 and ending up with bright orange roots and platinum ends, I was desperate for a product that was ammonia free. I choose medium ash blonde and prayed for the best. After checking numerous reviews I was prepared for it to come out darker the longer I left it on, and due to the extreme brassiness of my roots I left it on for the longest time specified. After rinsing I was left with dark ash brown roots and grey ends. After that I logged onto MA and was going to write a scathing review, but decided to hold off for a few days and see how it faded, as this is a demi permanent. I am so glad I did, because after the second day my hair is gorgeous. My roots lost all of their brassiness and now match the color on the box and perfectly blend with the rest of my hair. I didn't have the dryness other reviewers mentioned, but I deep condition twice a week so that may be why. I also wait to do my color when my hair gets extremely greasy, gross I know but it really protects the hair shaft, and that usually gives me perfect color and may be why my hair wasn't damaged. I will definitely purchase again, but wait to do it on a three day weekend.

Cleansers -Dermalogica - Skin Clearing Wash
kalicalifornia 6/7/2011 1:37:00 PM
I hate this cleanser. I didn't have acne as a teenager and when I hit my 20's I started breaking out. The claims this product had seemed to suit my needs (exfoliate, soothe and treat) and because I have heard such amazing things about Dermalogica I gave it a try. I haven't had dry skin in my life, but after using this it changed my combination skin (normal/oily skin) into a sensitive flaky patchy mess. HATE this product! Extremely drying, does nothing to treat current or prevent future breakouts. Waste of money.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - salon effects

I LOVE THESE!!!! I don't always have time to get my nails done and am constantly changing my nail color which why love Salon Effects. Salon Effects helps keep my nails looking awesome between polishes. I usually put a top coat after I apply them and they last for weeks! NOTE: I tried the orange version called Squeezed! and they didn't stick at all. I don't know if I got a bad batch or if all the orange suck. Usually have no problem with these. :(

Shave Products -Trader Joe's - Honey Mango Shave
kalicalifornia 6/7/2011 3:40:00 AM
This is a knock off of the Albla Shave creme. They are identical, and both are amazing. Moisturizes and helps provide a close smooth shave. Good price and convenient. My HG shave creme.

Skincare - Body -Alba Botanica - Moisturizing Cream Shave

I'm currently using the mint one and although it does give me an excellent shave, I feel that it is lacking that minty tingle that you expect with natural skincare products. Overall excellent shave, but Tarder Joe's make an almost identical shave creme, so I will be switching back out of convenience. The one design flaw is that the cap collects water, so annoying. Another alternative would be hair conditioner, which is my go to when I run out of shave creme.

Hair Removal -Unlisted Brand - Veet Ready to Use Wax Strips - Normal to Dry Skin
kalicalifornia 6/7/2011 3:17:00 AM
I am reviewing the Veet Ready to Use Wax Strips in the purpley box, that says it is made for sensitive skin and contains almond oil. I don't think they make the green ones anymore. I have waxed my own legs for a few years now and normally use Gigi creme wax and muslim strips. I ran out of wax halfway through waxing my legs (I forgot to lift the lid and check before I turned to warmer on) and drove to my nearest drugstore to find an inexpensive alternative. These strips weren't bad at all, almost painless actually. I blasted them with a hair drying before using them and I was able to reuse the strip at least twice before discarding. Hair came out at the root, not a lot of irritation (just the normal redness associated with waxing) and the included finishing wipes made clean up super easy. I will definitely be purchasing these again.

Gels/Soaps -Dr. Bronner's - dr bronners assorted scented castille soaps
kalicalifornia 6/7/2011 2:34:00 AM
I grew up using Dr. Bronner's (thanks hippie parents!) and love it. I tend to rotate the scents, due to weather/mood changes and prefer tea tree and peppermint during the hotter months and almond during the colder months. I use this solely as a body wash and brush cleaner, and haven't experienced any of the dryness that other reviewers mentioned. Although, I have used it as a face wash when I go camping (it's biodegradable!) and as long as I use, at the least, a light moisturizer or sunscreen after washing, I don't get that itchy, dry, overly clean feeling. If you prefer to unwind or relax, I recommend giving the lavender or eucalyptus a shot. All their scents smell amazing, and really pure. The rose scent can smell a little perfumey to some, but I have a weak spot for rose scented products and always have some in my bathroom. I recommend using in conjunction with a Salux Bath Towel. Dr. Bronner's + Salux = soft, healthy skin

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Salux Nylon Japanese Bath Towel
kalicalifornia 6/7/2011 1:58:00 AM
I love this thing! I was extremely skeptical at first and even after seeing all the reviews, I hesitated in trying this product. Upon seeing it at my local Japanese supermarket, I decided to get it on an impulse. After using it one time, this bath towel killed any skepticism I previously had. My skin was so soft. After only using it for a few months it has helped with the kp on my arms and clear up any ance breakouts. It's also an awesome pre-spray tan exfoliator. I recommend using a liquid body wash instead of a bar, because the bar doesn't lather up as well. I use Dr. Bronner's tea tree soap during hot months, and switch it for the almond when the weather gets colder. I can't recommend this bath towel enough.

Tinted Moisturizer -Boots - No7 Soft and Sheer Tinted Moisturiser
kalicalifornia 6/2/2011 11:35:00 PM
After trying countless tinted moisturizers (Stila, Laura Mercer, Neutrogena, ect.) I finally found one that works for me. I have combination skin with an oily t-zone. I'm half Irish and half Colombian with a medium light skin tone with yellow undertones, and other tinted moisturizers either left me ghostly white or with a weird orange tinge. This one doesn't. I use the fair and it perfectly matches my skin. It is extremely sheer and a completely natural look. This tm moisturizes my dry cheeks and doesn't make my t-zone super greasy. Although, if you have extremely oily skin I wouldn't recommend this as it has no mattifying properties.
