Lotions/ Creams -Cerave - Therapeutic Hand Cream
junomacguff 5/19/2013 2:30:00 AM
I had tried this before but wasn't wowed by it so I had stuck it in my closet and forgot about it. I have dishydrotic eczema on my hands that has been very hard to control over the past several months. This week I was having a particularly bad flare and was lucky enough to have the derm work me in the same day. She prescribed a very strong steroid cream (which kind of scares me since they make you more sun sensitive and it's summer) and told me to start using Cerave hand cream at least twice a day or every time I wash my hands. I've been using this cream several times a day since Tuesday and the bumps are almost completely gone! I haven't even used the steroid cream at all. This cream isn't greasy or heavy and it does stay on. After washing, my hands still feel really soft instead of cracked and dry. I'm so glad my derm recommended this and I'm so glad not to have to use the steroid cream, at least for now.

I purchased this a few weeks ago out of desperation during a rosacea flare and have been thrilled with the results. Luckily I don't so much gets break outs when I flare but I do get the redness/flushing/irritation. What caused it this time? I suspect Elta MD Clear UV SPF 46 as it was the only new product I was using at the time. Anyways. I went to Dillards to buy another TTDO Balm and the SA suggested I try this to help calm my flare. I had tried it years aho when it first came out and didn't remember being blown away but decided to revisit it since nothing else was helping. I hate jar packaging! All of these good antioxidants are just becoming less effective each time I open the jar and it drives me crazy. The SA did suggest using a Q-Tip instead of my fingers which never occurred to me to do. This cream is so soothing and rich but not greasy. It wears nicely under makeup or sunscreen or both. I'm pretty dry skinned and suspect this might be a tad heavy for a rosacean with oily skin but for this Goldilocks, it's just right. :)

*Edited 4/16/13* Spoke too soon. This did in fact irritate my rosacea and I had to discontinue using it. I suspect the niacinamide or maybe even the lactic acid, my skin is so sensitive that it's hard to know for sure sometimes. It's a shame because this is a great SS. I have finally found my HG SS! I used to use Skinceuticals Physical Fusion which has an awesome finish but being that I'm very dry, I have to wear moisturizer underneath. So I was looking for a SS that was moisturizing enough that I wouldn't need a separate moisturizer and that wasn't super shiny. This happens to do both beautifully! It also wears under makeup like a dream. I use Estee Lauder Invisible foundation and Laura Mercier loose powder over top, my skin looks awesome! I was worried the niacinamide might irritate my rosacea but it hasn't, I've been using for a couple of weeks. I love the airless pump and the fact that is also has Sodium Hyaluronate as well. I'm going to order another bottle soon to be ready for summer. Love this stuff!!

I used this product years ago and decided to repurchase last weekend. When I applied, my cheeks and nose flushed bright red. I do have rosacea but I've never had an immediate flushing reaction like that before. So I washed it off and applied Metrogel by itself. I tried it again the next day to be sure and same reaction. I have no idea what ingredient would have caused it but it's going back to the store. Bummer!

Styling Products -Aveda - Air Control hairspray

I am so allergic to this hairspray! I used it one day and from the moment I sprayed until I took another shower, I sneezed my head off. I've never had that reaction to a hair product before. Needless to say I won't be using it again, wow!

Styling Products -Aveda - Light Elements Smoothing Fluid

Another one of my Aveda HG's. I've been using this for years and have repurchased many times. My hair is fine/dense/wavy and it's hard to find a serum that can control frizz while not weiging my hair down. This serum manages both and smells wonderful. I can use it after I blowdry and flat iron or I can use it on damp hair when I airdry. It's got silicones in it which protect from heat and jojoba oil to moisturize. Love it!

Treatments -Aveda - Color Conserve Daily Color Protect
junomacguff 4/11/2013 12:55:00 AM
I have fine/dense/wavy hair that I highlight a few times a year. When I do have highlights and/or color, I use this leave-in if I'll be out in the sun at all. It contains green tea and red tea extracts which are antioxidants as well as oils like babassu, passionfruit seed, sunflower, rice bran, and acai. I don't need to use very much as it's so hydrating, so $24 for 3.4 fl. oz. seems reasonable for a tube that will likely last at least a year. Smells wonderful like the rest of the Color Conserve line.

Styling Products -Aveda - Brilliant Universal Styling Cream
junomacguff 4/11/2013 12:46:00 AM
This is a great styling cream, one of the few that doesn't weigh my hair down. I apply a very small amount to my hair when it's wet before I use the Confixor gel to help avoid the crunch when I air dry. It smells wonderful and makes my hair very soft/shiny. It contains aloe, meadowfoam seed oil, and jojoba oil so it moisturizes my dry ends as well. It's $18 for 5 oz. but with the amount that I use, a tube could easily last a year.

Shampoo -Aveda - Be Curly Shampoo
junomacguff 4/11/2013 12:39:00 AM
This shampoo is just okay. It's not harsh or drying and is low lathering which is great for curly hair. Unfortunately it just left my fine/dense/wavy hair tangled and dirty feeling. I love Color Conserve shampoo or Damage Remedy shampoo, but this one just didn't work for me.

Conditioner -Aveda - Be Curly Conditioner
junomacguff 4/11/2013 12:36:00 AM
This condtitioner doesn't detangle very well at all. I have fine/dense/wavy hair and this conditioner just doesn't do much for me. I much prefer the Brilliant Connditioner which is one of my HG's as it detangles like a dream and leaves my hair silky/shiny. I'm not sure what hairtype this was meant for but it's certainly not for mine.

Styling Products -Aveda - Be Curly Style Prep
junomacguff 4/11/2013 12:33:00 AM
This product is just too heavy for my fine/dense hair. If I use just a little, it doesn't enhance my waves the way that I'd like. If I use too much, my hair is greasy looking. I've tried it with the Be Curly Curl Enhancer and that just made weighed my hair down more. I'm sure a curly girl with thick hair would love this, it's just not for me.

Shampoo -Aveda - Damage Remedy Restructuring Shampoo
junomacguff 4/11/2013 12:27:00 AM
Several years ago I had a Japanese hair straigthening incident that completely fried my hair. This shampoo along with the matching condtitioner and the Intensive Restructuring Treatment saved my hair. I recently had a BKT and then had highlights done about a month later, so I've got some damage. I'm using this shampoo once again with the Brilliant conditioner, great combo for my hair. It's very gentle, doesn't foam very much or strip hair. Also doesn't leave hair tangled after washing which is a big deal for me. A little more pricey at $24 for 8.5 fl. oz. but I don't need to use it everyday and it will last several months.

Styling Products -Aveda - Confixor
junomacguff 4/11/2013 12:21:00 AM
I have fine but dense wavy hair that has a tendency to frizz when I airdry. I tried this product last year and have been using it since. It's a very liquid gel, similar to Paul Mitchell Super Sculpt. It brings out the wave in my hair and gives me a beachy look without crunch. I apply a generous amount while my hair is wet and then "pineapple" in a towel while I'm putting my makeup on. When I take the towel off, I scrunch in some more Confixor and let it finish air drying. It controls most of my frizz and makes my hair very shiny. Love it!! It smells wonderful too! It's $18 for 8.5 fl. oz. but a bottle lasts at least a couple of months.

Conditioner -Aveda - Pure-Fume Brilliant conditioner
junomacguff 4/11/2013 12:13:00 AM
This has been one of my favorite conditioners for the past 15 years and I just repurchased a bottle the other day. It smells wonderful and the scent lasts all through the day without being overpowering. It has meadowfoam seed oil, babassu oil, jojoba oil, shea butter and aloe so it's very nourishing to my slightly dry hair. My hair is also fine but dense and wavy, prone to tangles. This conditioner tames the tangles and leaves my hair silky without weighing it down. At only $18 for a 6.7 fl. oz. tube, it's a steal compared to many of the other hair products I use. I do wish it were in a flip top bottle but that's not a big deal. I use it with the Damage Remedy shampoo or Color Conserve Shampoo.
