Treatments -Ren - Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask
juniperjolie 5/2/2008 12:54:00 AM
I admit it. I saw this on InStyle's yearly list of best beauty buys and the following week I was in Sephora getting the last box of this. The magazine review listed it as a radiance mask, so that's what I was expecting. That's what I got. My skin looks brighter, as if someone turned on the light. I have blackheads, some breakouts--I'll be buying the clay mask based on the good reviews--and this lightened the appearance of them on my nose. That said, I wouldn't rate this as a blackhead clearing mask, to me that's a bonus, so don't buy this based on that. The packagaging clearly states it's NOT for sensitive skin. I felt no burning or tingling with this. I was hesitant to buy because of the feared price/hype ratio, but I'm pleased.

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - Beyond Paradise
juniperjolie 1/18/2007 1:03:00 PM
My aunt wears this and it smells wonderful on her. It's not strong at all. I think it's where and how much of it you spray that matters. Do the "cloud walk" (as mentioned below) or spray it lightly on the legs. She gets compliments on it all the time. I tried it and it was pleasant. I didn't have that instant "Oh, I've got to have this reaction" but I'd be quite pleased if I got Beyond Paradise as a present. That's why I gave it a 3. I'm very selective about fragrance.

Fragrances -Philosophy - The Fragrance

I saw the founder of the brand do a presentation on this fragrance. It's supposed to be unisex. A departure from their more feminine, sweet scents. Christina was going through some rough times, lost some friends and this fragrance lifted her spirits. It was described as sunshine in a bottle. Sounds good to me. So I head down to Sephora to find out what sunshine in a bottle smells like. We'll ladies (and gents). Sunshin in a bottle smells like Clinque's Happy! It's the olfactory equivalent of "Ice, Ice Baby" versus "Under Pressure". If you don't like Happy, then just pass on this one.

Hair Styling Tools -Babyliss - Pro TT Tourmaline 5000 Hairdryer
juniperjolie 10/20/2006 1:08:00 AM
I got this at a great price - about $90 - at my local beauty supply store. I am so happy my old Conair needed replacing! I remembered that my stylist used a "babysomething" brand dryer and she always gets my hair done so quickly and so smoothly. I did some research, found the brand name and went on the hunt. She uses this very one at her salon. Depending on how long I let my hair air dry, I shave off 20 minutes off of my drying time...and that's with breaks! I have an abundance of fine, frizz prone, relaxed hair that used to take my 40 minutes to dry. Frizz is still sometimes a factor - I live in a highly humid climate and my technique is off at times - but I bought this primarily for the time efficiency. This dryer is light and not noisy at all. The caveat is the switch placement, but it not a problem now that I'm used to handling the dryer. Note: if you have a sloppy technique then you'll get flyaways etc. This Baby has POWER.

Skincare - Body -Bath and Body Works - Flowering Herbs body lotion

I wish they hadn't discontinued this fragrance. It's so refreshing. A diffused scent. The most orignal of all BBW's offerings. I have a few drops of it left in the splash. Update: I contacted BBW and a rep informed me they will be offering the Flowering Herbs line in May 2006 on their website's Classics Collection. Check the site for the exact availability date.

Fragrances -Bath and Body Works - Japanese Cherry Blossom EDT

This scent is suprisingly well developed for BBW. I'm not big on Oriental fragrances as they tend to be too heavy for my tastes. But this one is delicate, almost fresh. Doesn't last all day, but for the price I didn't expect it to. I use this if I'm out for a a few hours or if I don't want to be "perfumey". Of all the BBW offerings I might buy this again, be it cream, spray or edt.

Fragrances -Philosophy - Pure Grace

I checked this one out based on the reviews here and liked it. I bought it for my mom and she enjoys it very much. Always gets compliments. It's crisp, fresh and not pretentious. I read many reviews that critiqued its staying power. While it does fade, which is to be expected with such a light scent, I find that the scent still lingers - especially on clothing. I like that I have the option to respray if I want and not worry about reeking of fragrance for miles I'm giving this a 5 as it's the 3rd repurchase. What I like about this is I don't have to worry if it's too much, whether it's inappropriate for a particular setting. Great for traveling when you don't want to take a bunch of scents with you.

Shampoo -Aveda - Scalp Benefits shampoo
juniperjolie 3/18/2006 11:25:00 PM
Amen! Finally something that works...a noticeable difference after the first use. I've had a problem with flaky hair for many, many years. I figured that's just how it was going to be. In recent months, it had gotten way worse. Then I read about how moisturizing products actually contribute to flakines. Every shampoo and conditioner I've bought in the last few years, has the word "moisturizing" in it. A poster on the Jolie in NYC blog said this worked for her so I bought it after reading the reviews here. I have an abundance of fine, dry looking hair. I use both the shampoo and conditioner. My hair didn't dry out and it gave my hair a natural, healthy looking shine. The key is to massage it into the scalp and add water to improve the product coverage. I'm 1/2 through the bottles and if the results continue, I will be restocking.

Fragrances -Coty - Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker

This is my new fave. The name is accurate. It's delicate, not over the top and kind of quirky. Bought it about 2 months ago and the bottle is 1/2 gone.

I read a lot of the reviews on various sites so I tried a sample out of curiosity. My first reaction was "eww...musky chocolate". Definitely cloying. Based on the initial impression I would have given it a one. But just over an hour later I took a whiff and it dried down to a mild, sexy scent. Kindo of mysterious. Definitely appropriate for the late evening. I wouldn't buy this for myself but I wouldn't mind if I got it as a present. For those of you who love this fragrance, please don't just spray and run out the door. Use a light hand, or spray it on your lower half. Imo, this fragrance is at its best after an hour.
