Blush -NARS - Orgasm Blush
rated 4 of 5

I have fair neutral skin (nc15-20, while nc20 is too yellow while nw20 is too red) and the blush turns out to be a nice soft sheer pink (90% pink, 10% peach if I must really describe) on my cheek, like after a run. In fact it looks like a rosy cheek color of a toddler. a slight sheen on my cheeks that is not golden and "in-your-face" manner. Totally no hint of gold shimmer or orange on my face although I did see clear peach colour and a lot of golden shimmers when I swatch it on my hand which is more yellow. lovely texture that last and colour does not oxidise for me. I apply the blush using the real technique blush brush and it photographs nicely and looks very natural even when I use it over sunscreen with no foundation and over my freckles. I had no luck with orange lip / cheek colours as most will look pink on me, so I guess that's why nars orgasm works. I strongly urge fellow mua to try the blush on your face n like the colour before buying. For example, if I'm going for a peachy cheeks, I will be sorely disappointed but all I'm looking for is a natural glowy cheek that brings me from day to night. This is my second pan on nars orgasm blush. While i love the fine n long lasting texture of the blush, I threw away the first pan in spring cleaning because the rubber packaging melted into a sticky mess after 2 plus years in the humid Singapore weather. It didn't hit the pan even after 2 plus years of daily usage so I imagine it can last me for years if i can stand the sticky packaging. Nars, can you at least improve your container for those of us who live in tropical countries?

Pressed Powders -Maybelline - Dream Matte Pressed Powder
rated 5 of 5
jun109 10/18/2012 5:44:00 AM

this is my go-to powder whenever i use BB cream / liquid foundation / over any sunblock to take away any shine/ stickiness. even for BB cream with the lousiest oil control, i can just powder this on and my base makeup will last whole day (usually from 8am-10pm) with just some blotting. it's finely milled powder with light coverage and fantastic for oily skin / t zone. I'm pretty neutral on the packaging although the swivel design can be less confusing but i love that it separates the puff and powder and therefore great for travelling / touching up. the only thing that can be bad for this powder is the lack of SPF and that it's not available in Singapore. for reference, i am a NC15-20 and uses Light4-5, cream shade.

Eyeliner -Milani - Liquif'eye Metallic eye liner pencil -black
rated 5 of 5

This pencil eyeliner goes on deep rich black colour and it last on my oily eyelids where other brands like MAC fluidline, bobbi brown gel, Kate gel liners, K Palette 24 hr tatto etc failed me. This gem here is soft, creamy and really long lasting for someone with oily eyelids and uses eyedrops every few hours. No smudges, no fall out "panda" under eye effect either. There's a few slight dislike though - it's a pencil liner and needs to be sharpen (it's so soft that you need to freeze it before sharpening or it'll be quite a mess) and that it's not available in Singapore. But nothing beats the value (it's so affordable at less than USD10, compared to my mac, bobbi, urban decay) and I will definitely buy it again. In fact, i had just ordered for the brown eyeliner online.

Eye Shadow -Jill Stuart - Eye Jelly
rated 5 of 5

Jill Stuart draws me in because of their packaging and very pretty swatches online. I am a huge fan of their eye jelly since i've purchased the first eye jelly 2 years ago in Hong Kong. since then, i have went on to purchase 3 more eye jellies. While i tend to favour lighter colours and more versatile shades (such whitish silver, light gold) mainly because it's more versatile and subtle for daily but colours like pink/purple/brown do show up pigmented and lovely. i've just tried their purple jelly (Jewel Flash) and was given very positive remarks everyone everywhere! I use it as a eyeshadow on its own as i don't like the effect after layering eyeshadows on it. It's super glittery, last the whole days and the glitters will not fall and irritate my eyes and contact lens (unlike their eye shadow palette). it has a lovely rose scent just like all other Jill Stuart products. the cons - it's on the pricely side but the glitters and texture are worth in my option. lower price alternative don't get the same effect and besides, one bottle can last up to a year with daily usage. also, the eye jelly, just like other gel makeup products - will dry up in less than 2 yrs - so use your product - don't store!

Powder -Chanel - Mat Lumiere Extreme SPF 20/PA+++
rated 5 of 5
jun109 11/16/2009 2:49:00 AM

My colour is RMK LF 101, around NC15-20 and both Chanel 10 Beige Clair (yellow base lightest shade) and 20 Rose Beige (pink based lightest shade) suits me. I went ahead to get a refill for Shade 10 but it's out of stock and i decide to try shade 20. Colour wise, the SA recommend me both shade 10 & 20 the first time round, but i rejected shade 20 because i'm concerned if it will be too red for me. My skin tone is usually neutral - not yellow and not red - which is a chore when i buy liquid foundation and i usually stick to yellow based ones as red one tend to make me look like a cooked crab. the pink undertone for shade 20 is not that scary compared to most other brands (Ettusais, Za, MAC NW20). the effect is like a brighter and more radiant version of 10. luckily for me, the shade remains - it will not oxidise and turn darker and redder after few hours. Power is really fine. I can use them for touch up on my nose and it will never have the "open pore" look - unlike many other 2 way cake i have tried. i only use sunblock below it and It last very well for me for my usual 18 hours days except for my nose - which none of any brands loose powder can control it. (edit 2012-07-03: This problem is solved when i apply Revlon Photo Ready Primer in Translucent before it but i guess any primer will do. I'm impressed!) Mat Lumiere Extreme gives a long lasting matte look - but not a flat face look. if i want a more dewy look for the day, i will use Laura Mercier illuminating tinted moisturiser before the powder foundation or use a luminizer (TheBalm mary-loumaniser) over it. My HG for years before this had been RMK LF + Chacott Loose powder and this compact is able to give a better effect than them. Price is SGD$83, and the refill is SGD$63. a refill last me 3 months with daily usage + occasional day touchup. it's on the pricely side but considering the cost to buy a good LF & LP, it is actually more economical. **** add on 2011-07-05***** I had just bought Chanel Vitalumiere Eclat compact powder to try last week. In comparison, Chanel Mat Lumiere extreme gives a matte and slightly heavier coverage in comparison to Chanel Vitalumiere Eclat which has a even finer texture and gives a dewy glowy look. While I love Chanel Vitalumiere Eclat dewy finish, sad to say, it doesnt last for me (and i had oily tzone and dry cheeks). For reference, my shade for Vitalumiere Eclat is B10. *** added on 2012-10-18*** i tried other compact foundation but this is still my favorite. It hides my pores, gives my skin a luminous matte look. looks great in photos, last 18 hr days and i love the SPF factor.

Lips -Shiseido - Water in Lip
rated 5 of 5
jun109 9/30/2009 1:58:00 AM

This is my favourite lip balm of all time. I find most lip balm too thick / oily / sticky / does not hydrate but not this. Shiseido Water in Lip is light weight, hydrating, not oily or sticky (despite the nice shine) or taste weird. i've tried the normal version and that gets me hooked to the texture. i am currently using their limited edition (for this year?) cherry blossom version which comes with a nice pink shimmer, and yet a soft minty afterfeel (barely noticable, not the intense - super minty feel like Burt's Bee) - no taste and a super cute pink packaging. thumbs up for the SPF. some past lip balm i've tried (in comparison to this lip balm): neutrogena - not hydrating, quite hard, too waxy. za - taste "sour" to me. not hydrating as well. mentholatum - too waxy, and the peppermint water in lip which i buy is too strong. nivea / lip ice - abit oily, and not hydrating. doesn't give me the "omh" factor to repurchase. burt's bee - too minty, does not hydrate, and somehow makes my lips peel really bad although i do want to like it. mls - nice favours, but i find it too oily. the only thing is this lip balm is not available in singapore. i need to get from hongkong/taiwan/japan.

Concealers -Shu Uemura - Pro Concealer [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
jun109 9/29/2009 4:48:00 AM

I have been a faithful user of the Shu Uemura Concealor for 3 years. First of all, I am fair with serious dark eye circle that most liquid (and some cream) concealor won't last for me - especially with my oily eyelid and dry eyes and i'm forever applying eyedrops and i'm wearing makeup for more than 12 hours a day! This is one concealor that never fails me - flawless coverage is there from morning till midnight! i never need to touch up at all - so far i had not been able to do that with any other concealers. I'm a mac NC20, RMK101, Chanel 10 Beige Claire and i'm using 7R Medium Light. i've made the mistake of getting 5R medium light during my 2nd purchase as the SA tell me that the peach colour in it is better for dark eye circle but apparently, it's too dull and people keep commenting that i look tired the first day i went to work with that shade. a waste of my money and i went back to get 7R medium light the next day. the trick for this concealor is to get the concealor in your skintone or lighter. and if your skin is yellow tone - go with it. the texture is thick and sticky - but dry to a natural powdery finish. i'm using a synthetic bristles concealor brush that is wide and abit longer comparing to other brands ( get it from the make up store - it's amazing if you have big area to cover) to cover and find that it works the best for me - fast (just one swipe per eye) and even application.i have some a few fine lines and doesn't set into them. i like the packaging - small white squarish container that close tight - it look alot sleeker than the normal roundish big pots. i do hope it come with more product. the price increment for this concealer is also scary. i've got it initially at 2007 at SGD$38, and subsequently, a year later at SGD$44 in a new packaging that contain lesser product, and now it is SGD$48. however, one tube can last 1 year with daily usage. ***updated 2011-07-05*** this concealor had changed to a round pot with new formula that should be more moisturising. it's a pity since i like the squarish container however i was told that the contents is now more. will update in detail once i had tried the new formulations.
