Fragrances -Fresh - Memoirs of a Geisha
rated 2 of 5
jordana459 11/23/2005 3:51:00 PM

I was excited to get a free sample with my Sephora order and sprayed it on right away. I quickly learned that this was not the scent for me and promptly got a headache. It's almost sickly sweet and is persistently strong. I washed my wrists with lots of soap and still couldn't get rid of the scent completely. I'm very glad that I didn't purchase or swap for this fragrance!!

Hair -Klorane - Dry shampoo
rated 4 of 5
jordana459 11/23/2005 3:47:00 PM

I've got long, thick brown hair and prefer to wash my hair every other day, so I use this on the "non-washing" days. It does what it promises to do -- it removes the "greasies" and restores volume. I think it's a great product and like the scent, too. I do find that it leaves a grayish/whitish cast to my hair that sometimes remains even after brushing thoroughly. I also have the B&B Hair Powder in Brown, and find that I like it slightly better because it's invisible in my hair. However, I do like the convenience of the Klorane aerosol can -- if I could just get someone to make a brown shade in aerosol, I'd have my HG product!

Hair -Bumble & Bumble - Hair Powder
rated 4 of 5

I've got long, thick brown hair, and use the brown shade of this product. I prefer to wash my hair every other day, and I use this on the "non-washing" days. I've used it for years and think it's a great product. It does what it promises to do and is invisible in my hair. It did take my awhile to master the art of applying it and I still occasionally end up powdering my scalp on accident :-) I also have the Klorane Dry Shampoo in the aerosol format, and like it as well. Since I have dark hair, I find that the B&B powder is a better fit for me because it doesn't leave a grayish/whitish cast to my hair. However, I do like the convenience of the aerosol can -- if I could just get someone to make a brown shade in aerosol, I'd have my HG product!

Lipstick -Chanel - Aqualumiere # 39 Tijuana
rated 3 of 5
jordana459 11/23/2005 3:35:00 PM

I bought this unseen from Gloss.com and was disappointed. IMO, this was not a sheer lipstick and that's what I was looking for. Granted, it had much less pigment than a regular Chanel l/s, but I still would not consider it a sheer l/s. I tried applying it very lightly and in various ways, and still couldn't get a sheer application. Also, the color wasn't good for me either. I had very unpigmented lips and it's common for shades that are dark on everyone else to look very bright on me. This was no exception -- it was a bright reddish-plum on me, and that wasn't the look I had hoped for. I returned it to Gloss.com and put my Portofino l/s mini up for swap without even testing it. This formulation isn't for me :-(

Hair -Stila - crème bouquet hair refresher
rated 2 of 5
jordana459 11/23/2005 3:30:00 PM

I have both the B&B Dry Shampoo and the Klorane spray version, and IMO, both are much better than the Stila product. I have dark hair, and the Stila Hair Refresher left it with a grayish cast even after I brushed it through. Also, it left my hair feeling the texture of stray and I didn't like the Creme Bouquet scent, either. It was an all-round disappointment for me and was returned to Gloss.com :-( I highly recommend either the B&B or Klorane products.

Lipstick -Stila - Clear Color in Plum
rated 2 of 5
jordana459 11/23/2005 3:24:00 PM

I completely agree with sweet_blossom's review. I found that the product wasn't sheer or moisturizing. I expected something like the Neutrogena Sheer Tints, and instead found dense pigment and a dry texture. Sent is back to Gloss.com!

Mascara -Sephora - Surprising Mascara
rated 1 of 5
jordana459 3/9/2005 3:57:00 PM

Wow -- this was awful mascara for me! I use pretty much whatever kind of mascara with good results and was pleased to get this sample from Sephora. Well, I wasn't so pleased after I used it. The clumping was horrendous and it flaked, too. It was surprising, but surprisingly bad for me. I hope others have better results!

Mascara -Neutrogena - Lash Tint [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
jordana459 3/8/2005 6:57:00 PM

Another disappointment for me -- obviously I should have read the review before I purchased this! I have naturally dark eyelashes and hope this would just add a little color to the tips where they are fine. Unfortunately, things didn't really work out this way. Honestly, I didn't notice any difference after applying this product (except for the flakes it left on my cheeks!). I can see how this might benefit someone with light eyelashes, but IMHO it's not so great for dark-lashed gals!

Eye Shadow -Neutrogena - Soothing Eye Tints
rated 2 of 5
jordana459 3/8/2005 6:54:00 PM

Like several others, I had high hopes for this product. Like an idiot (I should have learned my lesson my now!), I bought this w/o reading the reviews. Big mistake! I purchased Pale Shimmer and likee the 'cooling' sensation of this, but that was about it. It was too sheer to really provide any color, yet somehow managed to crease. Back to Target it went!

Self Tanners -Jergens - Natural Glow
rated 5 of 5
jordana459 3/4/2005 5:49:00 PM

Finally -- a product actually is better than the hype! I've been using this (in shade Light) daily for one week on my PPP skin and am so pleased with the results. I do, indeed, have a "natural glow" that looks like my skintone with a light tan. I'm curious to see if the shade with continue to darken with another week of use, or if it will stay relatively the same. Either way, I'm hooked -- this is a new HG item for me! I've used this daily on my arms and legs, and have experienced no streaking or any of the other unfortunately side effects of a true self-tanner (and Neutrogena Build-A-Tan, which streaked badly and didn't meet my expectations at all!). I'm basically just using it as a replacement for body lotion and am getting the "glow" as an added bonus. The smell is nothing like other self-tanners, either. My DH actually asked what I was wearing that smelled so good! I'm so happy to have discovered this product...I'm afraid all my e-tailer lotions and St. Tropez tanner are going to have a hard time competing with this! After I finish this tube, I'm thinking about trying the Medium shade to see how much more intense it is. Love this and highly recommend that you give it a try -- for $6, you can't go wrong with this great product!

Concealers -Revlon - Skinlights Illusion Wand in Light Touch
rated 3 of 5
jordana459 2/28/2005 9:35:00 PM

I typically just use pressed powder on my face and around my eyes (big no-no, I know!) but thought I'd give this a try since I've had a lot of late nights in front of a computer lately and thought this might brighten my eye area. This was my first concealer purchase. I really liked the idea of the brush applicator but found it difficult to use in practice. The brush was too rough and didn't spread the product well, so I ended up brush it onto the back of my hand and then patting it around my eyes. I ended up with decent coverage but thought it looked cakey. After a little while, it also began to crease -- definitely not the look I was going for. Guess this is going back to Target and I'm back to using pressed powder!

Lips -Neutrogena - MoistureShine Tinted Lip Balm in Fresh 70 [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
jordana459 2/28/2005 9:27:00 PM

I purchased #40 Nude and #70 Fresh, and ended up taking both back. I found the color swatches online to be very far off from the colors as they appear in the tubes at the drugstore. And of course, the drugstore didn't have testers, so I made my best guesses and headed to the car to test 'em out. Fresh ended up being unimpressive on me. I think it was designed to be a YLBB shade but didn't quite succeed. It was a bit bright on me and much more pinkish than it looked in the tube. I ended up thinking that I actually looked better without this lip balm :-( I love the tinted balm concept and have one from about every line that makes one. I've found them either to be fairly thick and pigmented (i.e. Delux Tintsticks) or very sheer and without much difference from one shade to the next (i.e. Neutrogena's version). Of course, I want that HG tinted balm that falls somewhere in the middle...and I'm still looking. Until I find it, I'll stick with my Tarte Lip Sheer!

Lips -Neutrogena - MoistureShine tinted lip balm in Nude #40 [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
jordana459 2/28/2005 9:14:00 PM

I'm in the minority here since I didn't like these. I tried #40 Nude and #70 Fresh, and ended up taking both back. I agree with the other reviewers that #40 Nude is a non-shimmery sheer pinkish brown-nude shade, but I was disappointed by how it looked on me. I was hoping for YLBB but didn't really get that from the Nude shade. On me, it was almost YLBB but a little off -- I ended up thinking that I actually looked better without this lip balm :-(

Blush -The Body Shop - Lip & Cheek Stain
rated 5 of 5
jordana459 9/5/2003 3:30:00 PM

Love this stuff!! I bought the berry shade in the new packaging (l/g style tube with sponge-tip wand) and liked it so much that I bought the red shade, too. I feel like I've tried every stain out there (BeneTint, SK, EL, Lorac, etc. and about 10 different flush sticks, too) and this is one of the very best. The colors are true and don't turn that awful fuchsia color on my lips like every other stain. The color is sheerer than average, so it's easy to build intensity on both lips and cheeks. Love it -- major rave!!

Lip Treatments -Mama Coco's - Red Hibiscus Lip Rouge
rated 5 of 5
jordana459 5/16/2003 3:58:00 PM

I just received my Lipmedic.com order yesterday and I can already tell that this Mama Coco's product is going to be one of my very favorites. It has a great texture and wonderful tint that doesn't turn the typical fuchsia color that other "red" balms do. I could do on and on about the scent -- it smells good enough to eat and I'm seriously thinking about licking it to see if it's edible :) Highly, highly recommended!!
