Lotions/ Creams -The Body Shop - Coconut Body Butter
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 7/19/2007 8:52:00 AM

I have always seen these in The Body Shop but never given them much thought. However, on the recommendation of a beauty blog that I love, I decided to go in and try one out. First of all,I love the smell. It's very tropical smelling, and perfect for summer. It's sweet though, so if you do not like those types of scents you will want to stay away. I thought I wouldn't like sticking my fingers in the tub (I have long fingernails and don't like it when stuff gets underneath) but it hasn't bothered me. The texture is smooth, cool, and creamy and you only need a small amount. It keeps my skins moisturized all day long. The price is expensive though (I think they are around $17) but I would definitely purchase again - in fact I already went back and got Brazil Nut and Shea butter.

Eye Shadow -NARS - Duo Cream - Pink Panther [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 5/16/2007 11:36:00 AM

I was in Sephora picking up some basics when as usual I wondered over to the NARS section. I picked up this eye shadow as an impulse buy - I just liked the way the colors looked in the pan and thought, well if I don't like it I can just return it. Turns out it's a keeper. Pink Panther is a cream duo that was released for Summer 2007. There are only 4 cream duos's right now. It's my first NARS e/s (I love their blush and multiples) and now I like it so much I want to get others. It gives you a great dewy look. The pale pink color has some shimmer, but not too much, to highlight the entire eye area (I have NW20 skin and dark brown eyes). I then use the darker pink color on the lid. It's a very natural, sheer wash of color - it's definitely not super pigmented like powder shadows. The only thing I dislike about NARS packaging is that I can't tell the difference from the outside b/w blushes or eyeshadow compacts - they all have that same black cover, which looks good (and it's rubber, so if you drop it you are ok), but when I have my mu strown all over my counter it's a problem! All in all, a great product that I would definitely purchase again.

Eye Shadow -Chanel - Shimmering Dunes Quad--Summer 2007 LE
rated 5 of 5
jmuemos 5/16/2007 11:23:00 AM

When I saw this quad on a beauty blog I was instantly intrigued. When I went to see it in person I knew I had to have it! My problem with quads/palettes is that usually I do not use all the shades. That is not a problem with this quad. There is a shimmery beige color, a pinkish shade, a taupe, and a walnut brown. They are perfect for the natural, shimmery summer eye. I can do a complete eye with them - right down to the liner. For reference I am asian/dark brown eyes/black hair/NW20ish. The textures are great and the packaging is nice as well. The only problem? You have to shell out $55 for this AND it's LE.

Blush -BeneFit Cosmetics - Sheer Cream Blusher in Hush! [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 5/16/2007 11:18:00 AM

Hush is a pinky-peach color on my NW20 skin and it really does give you a very sheer look. This is not a blush for dramatic cheeks. That being said, you only need a little squeeze to have enough to give yourself color. The color glides on easily and you can rub it in with you fingers. It's a lot less messy than Stila Convertible Colors and not at all sticky. The package is tiny - which is great for travel (and b/c you don't need a brush) but there isn't that much blush for $18. I wish it was a little less expensive, but I would probably buy again. Hopefully they will get more colors - right now there are only three.

Blush -Chanel - Joues Contraste - Horizon
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 5/15/2007 9:41:00 AM

This color looks a bright orange/peachy color in the pan and when you put it on, it’s very pigmented – when I put on the first swipe my reaction was whoa - that’s a lot of color! However, after during some more blending w. my trusty MAC 168 – it actually looks pretty great. For reference, I am Asian with (NW20/black hair/dark brown eyes). It’s a matte formula and not loaded with shimmer. Against my skin it gives me a sheer orangey-peach pop of color that brightens up my face and is perfect for summertime. The lasting power is pretty good as well – for some reason no blushes seem to last that long on me, but this one does well. Of course, the packaging is the classic and chic Chanel compact. When you open it up, there is a surprisingly small amount of blush in there, as compared to what you would see in a NARS pan for example, but it’s so pigmented, you really only need 1 dab for each cheek, so I expect it will last for a long time. The only downside is of course, the price! It’s $40 USD, which is why I can only buy one every 6 months or so unless I only want blush in my stash!

Mascara -Max Factor - Lash Perfection
rated 2 of 5
jmuemos 5/3/2007 9:53:00 AM

This mascara is just ok for me. I have the typical asian eyelashes - stick straight. I always use my Shiseido curler first and then apply mascara. Comnpared to DiorShow - I don't think this one is as good. It clumps a lot more and it's very wet - so I think it weighs down my lashes. However, it's a lot cheaper - so I thought why not give it a try. I don't think I'd repurchase - I'm still on a HG hunt!

Gels/Soaps -Bath and Body Works - Exotic Coconut Shower Gel
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 4/27/2007 10:23:00 AM

I love this body gel. Makes me think of summer and beaches. A nice, lighter fragrance for the spring/summer. I do not think it's overpowering - just a nice scent when you are in the shower. Gives you a good lather too and the price (as with most BBW stuff) is very reasonable.

Eye Shadow -Clinique - Color Surge Duo in Coffee Shop
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 3/21/2007 3:40:00 PM

This is a beautiful, complimentary duo of eyeshadows but they can also be worn separately. The lighter color is a shimmery bronzey, taupey color that is great on the lids. It makes my brown eyes pop. But my favorite part is the dark brown color for a liner - it lasts all day and has just the tiniest bit of shimmer. I use it all the time! The price is great and the quality is also very nice. I would definitely buy again.

Eye Shadow -Clinique - Disco Pink
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 3/7/2007 3:20:00 PM

This color came in a GWP quad that also includes Coffee Shop and Sugar Sugar. At first, I thought I would not use this color because it really is bright pink. It's actually very pretty though! It's much softer on and very easy to blend. I am NW20, dark brown eyes, black hair and I used it all over my lid, with the dark brown shade in Coffee Shop as a liner and it looks great!

Highlighters -MAC - Barbie - Pearl Sunshine
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 3/5/2007 1:56:00 PM

I really like Pearl Sunshine. It’s a light peachy color that does not look that impressive in the pan. But, it gives your face a really nice finish. I use this all over my face, esp. on my cheeks on top of my Satinfinish foundation (I am NW20, black hair, dark brown eyes) and it looks very natural and pretty. It has some shimmer, but the only time I noticed it was in the car in direct sunlight. It’s perfect for the office because it’s not over the top, just gives you a nice glow. I prefer this to my Becca Pressed Shimmer Powder and it was $10 cheaper too! You get a lot of product and the packaging is cute and also durable - this morning I dropped it off my bathroom counter and I was so nervous it shattered but it was still perfectly in tact!

Makeup Brushes -MAC - #190 Foundation Brush
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 2/22/2007 10:25:00 AM

Up until I brought this brush I have always used the cheap, triangle shaped sponges to apply my foundation. I don’t think I’m ever using those again! This brush makes even my just ok foundation look much better. You also use a lot less foundation because it doesn’t get absorbed in a brush like it does in a sponge. The bristles are soft and firm and gives your foundation a great looking finish.

Lipstick -Clinique - Butter Shine in Pink Toffee
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 2/22/2007 9:41:00 AM

This is my favorite buttershine lipstick. I also have perfect plum. This one gives my lips just enough pinky color without being too much. The best thing about these lipsticks is that they are so easy to put on, it almost feels like chapstick. It doesn't dry out your lips and isn't like a sticky gloss either. I am asian/NW20 and this is my favorite pink lippie!

Liquid -MAC - Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 2/15/2007 3:10:00 PM

LOVE this foundation. Gives you a freshy, dewy glow. I went to the counters and tried it three times before purchasing, just because I wanted to make sure it would work with my normal (a little oily in tzone sometimes and dry on cheeks in the winter) skin and it looks great. It's not shiny or shimmery but it does make you skin look radiant. I like the bottle with the pump and you really do get a lot of product for the money, IMO. Will definitely re-purchase.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
rated 3 of 5
jmuemos 2/12/2007 10:41:00 AM

I recieved a trial of this from Sephora and was hesitant to use it because all of the negative reviews, particularly about flaking since I wear contact lenses. I didn't experience any problems like that. This definitely thickens your lashes a lot. When I first put it on I was amazed. It looked like I had put false eyelashes on! The difference was more dramatic than any other mascara I've tried before. The bad news is that my eyelashes are stick straight and even with my beloved Shiseido eyelash curler by the end of the day they are straight and normal looking. So, I'm still searching for HG. But I would recommend this to anyone who did not have really straight eyelashes because it's pretty amazing stuff!

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Eyes Shadow Trio - Venetian Violet [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
jmuemos 2/12/2007 10:35:00 AM

I picked this trio along with Belgian Chocolates and right now this one is my favorite. I own many he eyeshadows but for special colors (for me, purples and greens) I decided not to shell out a lot of money. I really like this trio though and you can't really tell it's only $3. I would say the only thing that makes it a little different from some other he shadows is that it does not blend as well. But it's definitely pigmented. This trio is not too shimmery and great for work. The darkest purple color is a great liner. It realy brings out my brown eyes. I have NW 20 skin.
