Mascara -Shiseido - The Makeup Mascara Base [DISCONTINUED]

impressed but not that impressed. Tho then again when i finish this i will repurchase cos it ddoes the job unlike other primers i've tried which fail to deliver what they promised. It hols the curl but i guess maybe its me or something, but the curl wasn't that CURLED. it just made lashes visible ontop of my lash line. A spoolie is a MUST when using this product in my opinion. I always use mascara wands that are put by the counter for testers. Makeup artists at the counter are always nice enough to give me some to bring home.

It's overall a plain, VERY shimmery lipgloss..one of my first starting products in make up... great for starters and a good staple to have. not a must-have in my opinion

Makeup Brushes -The Body Shop - Mineral Foundation Brush
rated 5 of 5
jillianliqi 6/28/2010 5:02:00 PM

Firstly, i wont buy this again cos...well its a brush... there's no end to this. Also there's no end to its goodness. i hv the original bodyshop kabuki brush which i use for buffing, bronzing and loose powder...and its making me feel abit messy.. i wanted another one to separate brushes for buffing and loose powder , and another for bronzing, so i bought this denser one...PERFECT buffing and loose powder brush. (i use loose powder as foundation cos i am firstly allergic to mineral foundation and secondly not very interested in high coverage foundations) So this is PERFECT. its denser than the normal bodyshop (or any other brand i would venture into assuming) kabuki brush. So this is better for buffing. Afterall you can have the softest and roundest kabuki brush. But as far as this is concerned, its always the denser the better :D And its so small, so tts good for storage and good for focus. Normal kabuki brush sizes can be a little too big. When you buff in say,...a bronzer, it can be spreaded on other areas where you don't want it to be. And when i do makeup, it has to be high precision within a certain amount of time cos i treasure my sleep more than anything. all in all, LOVE this brush :D

Lipstick -MAC - Frost - Angel
rated 4 of 5
jillianliqi 6/10/2010 10:05:00 AM

I loved this pink but because my lips are so pigmented it turns into a hot very blue toned pink on me so i tend to use gold lipglosses or add myth before this lipstick to tone it down. But its a perfect pink for most of my other friends with less pigmented lips. I will not repurchase partly cos i found something similar which is ysl's rouge volupte in number 01 (which says its a nude beige but its totally a PINK). Its less blue toned than angel so i dont have to waste time on glosses which doesn't look good on me since i already have full lips.

Lipstick -MAC - Satin Lipstick - Myth
rated 4 of 5
jillianliqi 6/10/2010 10:02:00 AM

I loved this at first thinking it washes my lip out which is the point of nude lipstick. And i still love it but ever since one day after deciding to wear it to school and caused the boys to ask me if im ill i felt a lil self conscious wearin it... ANYHOO,its a great nude..but i personally think i would like to buy something that is more of a pinky beigey nude... but for occasions where i am gonna have HEAVY HEAVY eye makeup, this is the Go-to product for me :)

Treatments (Eye) -L'Oreal - Lash Boosting Serum
rated 5 of 5
jillianliqi 6/10/2010 9:59:00 AM

People talk about putting vaseline on ur lashes at night.I didn't need to lengthen my lashes or make them more full. Not because they're nice enough but i didn't see a point. I just wanted something to nourish my lash, prevent fall out since i use mascara everyday (started using it everyday when i was 17 and am starting to get the hang of it...and may i proudly exclaim on a completely unrelated note that i am getting GOOD at it :D) ok anyhoo, this was the perfect product for me... i did count actually, lost less than 5 lashes throughout the time i used it which is about a month now. And thus as the new lashes grow, old lashes are still there, making your lashes fuller as well. And i would like to think that it nourishes my lashes at night making it stronger and well just protects them really. I would hate to think that wearing cosmetics to make myself look prettier would end up making my natural self look worse off. So basically, let me tell u a story.. i was using department mascaras before this, and then after buying the loreal lash serum, i bought lorela voluminous together with it... and after awhile i realise OMG the voluminous looks so much better than my faux cils-noir radical. And i was like it must be the mascara. Then yesterday, i went to buy a touche eclat and they had a set of touche eclat with faux cils and it came in a beautiful pouch. Wanting that pouch, i bought the set, and put on the faux cils thinking it's not gonna be as nice and as price worthy as voluminous but no, it was much better. Much better than noir radical even. So therefore i concluded, my craze bout loreal voluminous was not because of the mascara and how good it actually was but because i used it with the serum. I thought it was the mascara at work but it was the serum, it brings ur mascaras to another level without using a fricking primer which (no matter what they say on the box) is adding something else to ur lashes and WILL have give them a higher chance of breaking off because most primers make your lashes feel stiff. Seriously girls, this is just abit more pricey than vaseline and is specifically for the lashes. WHY NOT :)))) if you look at the rest of my reviews i dont normally say i will repurchase. Cos i like to try new things. But this i will because i have never seen another similar item on the cosmetic market that isnt a lash booster but just a protective serum.

Blush -Bare Escentuals - Warmth All Over Face Color
rated 3 of 5
jillianliqi 6/10/2010 8:52:00 AM

I have no idea why this is in the blush section cos when i went to bare minerals for a bronzer they gave this to me. And it works as a bronzer for me (nc20 or NW15) This is more of a pinkish tone bronzer so i guess it can pull off as a blush if you can control the amount you put on, which i personally am glad that i can. I use this on top of my chanel bronze universel tho cos when i applied it below my neck it broke my neck out.... seriously, not my face, but my neck.. Will not be repurchasing cos i dont think i willl ever finish this and if i do i like to try out new things

Liquid -MAC - Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation
rated 4 of 5
jillianliqi 6/10/2010 8:49:00 AM

This is OK... i wanted a non-oil based foundation for my combination skin and the makeup artist told me i shld not get powder ones because my face (cheek downwards) are so dry till the skin can even feel scaly and the top half of my face is quite oily.. ANYWAY i got recommended this gel based one. ITS OK... definitely medium to full coverage... i did not use a foundation brush for this and used a blush brush... because i wanted to look natural and foundation brush for this a-little-goes-a-long-way foundation is going to make me look..well..sculpted. only bad point is that i have pink undertones and the lady gave me an NC20 after trying out both 20 and NW15. I just thought it might be because she wants to cover my natural blush, which would thus make giving me a yellow undertone one sensible. BUT it is definitely turning out too yellow. i may be asian but all the foundations i bought are always pink toned and no make up artist has ever told me otherwise except this mac one... guess i shld have trusted myself and past experience. will only not be repurchasing cos i like to try new things.

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
rated 4 of 5
jillianliqi 6/10/2010 8:39:00 AM

state of my lashes: Long, full but VERY thin. I LOVED noir radical..the first ysl mascara experience for me...but i found it made my lash look too...lush if you get my point.. i wanted my lash to look a teeny weeny bit stiffer than all too fluttery. i DID NOT wanna get faux cils, determined that my new buy was gonna be diorshow. And i also realised loreal voluminous was a worthy dupe of the noir radical (which is a blackest black for faux cils...so the only diff is the colour) BUT i got the faux cils in the end because 1) it was in a set with the touche eclat and 2) i heard there is a difference between Faux cils and noir radical despite the same brush and being CLAIMED to be all the same besides the colour. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. it makes your lashes soft and all, but fans and my lashes more and slightly more stiff. Which i love because i have asian lashes there are stick straight. And ladies, loreal carbon black voluminous may be a good dupe for noir radical, faux cils is definitely in a league of its own. And despite being a volume mascara, i realised that the lengthening it gives is better than noir radical (which is the one thing that really let me down when i had it as even loreal voluminous lengthens better than the noir radical). THat being said, it makes some lashes look a little zig-zaggy ... i dont know why... noir radical and voluminous never had this problem. But i guess its cos it's the first time i opened the tube and we all know that mascaras need to be 'seasoned' for abit before it reaches its full potential cos it can be too watery to begin with... and im speaking for all the mascaras i have and am using. I did a little test of loreal voluminous on one side and this one the other and realised, well voluminous doesn't separate as well and because it clumps two lashes together it makes the volumising effect more obvious from far. But if you look closely you will wannna get the faux cils instead. To me, loreal voluminus, faux cils and noir radical are VERY similar and picking on these details is just me being pedantic. But so far i would say including the price, if i were to keep one of these as a BACK UP(since i NEVER repeat mascaras cos i like to TRY THEM ALL), loreal voluminous would fit the bill. I have done individual reviews on the voluminous and noir radical if you gals out there wanna do a comparison.

Bronzers -Chanel - Bronze Universel De Chanel Sun Illuminator
rated 5 of 5
jillianliqi 6/5/2010 5:32:00 PM

Just started out on bronzers and bought bare mineral's Warmth. Then i decided to get something more neutral cos something too brown can really make u look weird in daylight. So there, bought this. (purely cos the dior counter was empty and after swatching their bronzers i found them too yellow.. and i was quite drawn to the consistency of this.... its like yea...soap bar texture but a had mousse during application) Didnt like it at first. Thought it looked way orange on my NC20 skin (and i am seriously considering changing my foundation to a NW15 cos NC20 is looking quite yellow on my pink undertoned skin) btw. THEN the magic happened when i changed my brushes...at first i used the kabuki which i used on warmth....then i used a blush brush, which still looked orange. THEN i used a face powder brush. yea u got me right, a powder brush from body shop... its paddle shaped so u can focus and seriously, if u use something less dense than a powder brush ( like some yotubers said use a mac 109..i dont know y but it didnt work for me) it just won't work. The mousse takes a few strokes to come off so its very buildable because every stroke only gives you that much colour. And im not exactly a morning person so a dense brush that gets more product at one go works better for me i guess. But yes...at first i HATED it but now, i will definitely buy it again. Update 20/5/10 : Ok the best way to use this, stipple your paddle brush in and then start stroking in the product. That way u get the right amount. It will look streaky when you put it on your face but after blending, it looks AMAZING. Oh btw, i tend to put a little more before i leave home as the colour will settle in and it'll look really natural even tho at first it might look a tad too much or slightly orange. There was a period of time i even brought this OUT WITH ME over a compact just to add a little bit more for touchups cos it will settle in. NOT disappear, but SETTLE IN. (since my skin is being temperamental, and now its "dry skin season" i dont really need a compact.)

Lipstick -Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Volupte Lipstick - #1 Nude Beige
rated 5 of 5
jillianliqi 6/4/2010 8:28:00 AM

wanted to buy something thats more moisturizing than my mac angel since i've hit the bottom...and i also wanted something slightly more yellow in terms of undertone but still on the blue side in general. THIS IS PERFECT. i was deciding between this and mac creme cup but this is DEFINITELY FAR BETTER in terms of colour..im really fair so a slight change of undertone makes a whole lot of difference :D

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous mascara
rated 3 of 5
jillianliqi 5/19/2010 11:48:00 AM

This is a total dupe for ysl noir radical ( and thus faux cils i guess cos they're essentially the same just of a diff colour SO I'VE HEARD...i've only tried noir radical myself tho)!!!!! ok i only use non waterproof mascaras on my upper lash and waterproof ones on my lower lashes so i never have raccoon eyes problems and probably not the best to comment on that aspect. But as far as effect goes, this is worthy dupe for ysl. Or in fact, it makes me look like i hv a little more lashes than ysl. Been buying HE mascaras all the time after some traumatic experiences from namely maybelline xxl and max factor masterpiece(only use it on my lower lashes now). They tend to leave ur lashes hard and feel crunchy and brittle. THIS DOESNT. i did a comparison of ysl on my left and voluminous on the right. the voluminous actually feels softer? :D:D:D Totally should get this. and it's the first mascara i've seen with no smell at all. Oh btw only two complaints, i got the original and found it significantly less black than my noir radical. (im asian and have black lashes so that doesn't bother but still its the downside of this mascara) AND for the quality of this mascara, i feel that they should improve on the packaging. If it has a gold tube too, ysl would have no standing at all :D:D:D UPDATE: downgraded a lippie.... i used this on my grad day... noir radical and faux cils may not be waterproof but they ARE tear resistant. this mascara is not even tear DROP resistant.. i cried abit and this mascara dropped down and smudged and blah blah blah.. it's horrible... so much for thinking its a dupe...guess when you do put them to a real test the expensive one still seems more worth it...

Mascara -Max Factor - Masterpiece Waterproof
rated 4 of 5
jillianliqi 5/15/2010 9:42:00 AM

Its great and this is coming from someone who has given up on YSL and lancome. Though it makes my lashes feel hard and this being one of my first drugstore mascara, it makes me wonder is it a common problem among drugstore mascara. I certainly hope not cos i only switched to drugstore mascaras after hearing that there's no need to spend 3 times the price for something exactly the same and just pay for the brand name. But anyhoo, the effect is great. It does not volumise as well as my ysl faux cil nor phenomen'eyes though... So thats a let down there. Gonna try loreal voluminous next.

Highlighters -Clinique - Fresh Bloom AllOver Colour - Peony
rated 4 of 5
jillianliqi 5/14/2010 12:54:00 PM

the only reason why i gave it four lippies is cos there's no brush. But seriously. this blush is Nars orgasm, Benefit Georgia, Nars Deep throat in a box!!!! really love it. Im an NC20 and it looks soooo natural. I am recently into foundations cos stress from exams made me break out. I already have natural blush, the light layer of foundation covers up my natural blush and this really re-emphasizes it really subtly. I always wanted to buy something like that. An apricot-ish pink...To me, subtlety is the key for blushes and this is definitely doing its job. Though may i add, i have bought so many products form clinique and everytime i go there i will leave with at least two products but everytime the sales managers have VERY bad attitude. UPDATE 26/6/2010: this is getting on my nerves...the lightest colour doesn't come off as well as the medium shade. And now i find it too pink... not just a hint too pink but yea, too pink... And i already have pink undertones and a natural blush so i guess i look like a pink tomato after using it... But for night functions it will work really well i guess... Like what i always feel, girls should wear their makeup according to the lighting of their location. worst impulse buy ever... too shimmery as well

Mascara -Clinique - High Impact Mascara
rated 3 of 5
jillianliqi 5/10/2010 11:39:00 AM

Got it as a GWP. One of my first high end mascaras. I think it is comparable to the natural look shiseido gives. REALLY comparable or shld i say similar. Anyhoo, it doesn't give me any volume so i dont know why the lady at the counter told me it is a volumising mascara. Basically, for someone who loves dramatic lashes (not spidery tho..i understand some people do have that preference but definitely not me) this mascara is not for me. HOWEVER, if you want lashes that r natural looking, this is it for u. Word of caution though, i think it does smudge quite alot. It is not a problem for me because i put either maybelline waterproof of maxfactor masterpiece waterproof over ANY mascara i use on my lower lashes.
