Gels/Soaps -Bath and Body Works - Shea Cashmere Shower Cream
jiffiner 1/16/2009 12:00:00 PM
This is the first body wash I've used that I can tell it leaves my skin softer and more moisturized. Love that quality, and I love the scent - kind of vanilla but more rich. My complaints with it would be that it has separated in the bottle after just a short time, so I have to rub in the little separated beads individually to get the best lather. The other complaint is the packaging, which is a screw-top tube. It's difficult to maneuver in the shower.

Liquid -Jane - Be Pure Mineral Skin Perfecting Foundation SPF 30
jiffiner 1/16/2009 9:54:00 AM
One of the main things I look for in foundation is a good color match with my skin, which is difficult to find. With Jane's poor color selection I was not expecting much. But this foundation is very blendable and does seem to match my skin. It looks good in sun light. I love that it has SPF 30, but it doesn't feel as heavy as I thought it might with that in it. It feels very light and natural. I took off a lippie because of the poor color selection and lack of any discernable finish, be it matte, dewy or whatever. It seems to be very basic.

Treatments (Eye) -Boots - Expert Sensitive Hydrating Eye Cream
jiffiner 10/14/2008 4:53:00 PM
I love this eye cream. I have been unimpressed with others like Loreal Skin Genesis and Clinique. Either they didn't really moisturize, or they made my eyes water, or they just didn't do anything. This is one of the few products that I can say I've seen results after using it. It provides the right amount of moisture without making my eyes feel greasy and it's very gentle. It sinks right in and my eyes are ready for makeup. The packaging is very convenient and sanitary and it's easy to control the amount of product that comes out. But the best part of all is that the fine lines under my eyes have truly softened. I never really understood what that phrase meant, but after using this I understand! I looked up close in the mirror the other day, and I literally had to do a double take because of the noticeable improvement.

Treatments -Clinique - Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector
jiffiner 9/25/2008 10:23:00 AM
Looks like I'm in the minority on this product, as I'm fairly pleased with it. I've been using it for about two and a half weeks. I have noticed a difference on the discoloration on my jawline and chin, which is due to acne marks and scars. These are less noticeable now. I used to cringe every time I caught a glimpse of myself up close, noticing that makeup really wasn't covering the discoloration on my jaw. I was really self-conscious. But now I'm more confident because the spots have faded and are less noticeable. I'm looking forward to "even better" results after the full six weeks. I haven't seen an improvement on the melasma spot on my cheek, but it's darker and larger. Maybe after the full six weeks that will improve. The packaging is good, but there's not a lot of product for the price. I try to use only two or three drops.

Scrubs -St. Ives - Elements Microdermabrasion
jiffiner 9/8/2008 11:13:00 AM
This stuff does the job! I had been using Mary Kay's Hand and Body Buffing cream on my face (yeah, I know, probably not a great idea), but I ran out and was looking for something cheaper. So glad I found this. It's less gritty than the MK stuff, which is probably a good thing. But it's more gritty than many other face scrubs, which seem to have larger and fewer scrubby particles. This product has just the right combination of the number and size of exfoliating particles, and it leaves my skin really smooth. Perhaps St. Ives shouldn't market this as similar to a microdermabrasion product, but I think the intent was to show that it is a little more intense than a run of the mill face scrub that doesn't provide a good exfoliation. I highly recommend this and I'll definitely purchase again.

Tinted Moisturizer -Pixi - illuminating tint & conceal
jiffiner 8/29/2008 9:31:00 AM
I share a lot of the same thoughts on this product as the previous reviewer. I like this better than a lot of other TM's, and better than a lot of skin products that claim to be "illuminating". It does make my face look brighter, but not with so much shimmer that it looks fake. IMO the coverage is similar to Smashbox TM, but it seems to blend in with my skin a little bit better. I'm using the lightest shade, and it blends in with my skin tone with very little effort. It also reminds me of the Neutrogena Glow Sheers, but Pixi has less shimmer which I like for everyday use. This morning I kept catching a glimpse of myself in my rear-view mirror in the daylight, and I thought the product matched my coloring very well and improved the look of my skin. The concealer in the cap is also a good product that doesn't sit on my skin, but does provide extra coverage. I really appreciate the SPF in the product - all products should have it! The packaging could be better. I wish it had a flip-top instead of a screw-on cap. I have to be very careful not to squish the cap into the concealer product when I put the cap back on, which is something I think should be remedied for a $35 drugstore product. I think there should also be more product for $35. That's steep. I will probably purchase it again, but I may wait until I have a Target gift card or birthday money or something like that. Overall, I like this product for its coverage, SPF, skin tone match, illuminating quality, and oil-free formula.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencil - Milk
jiffiner 7/21/2008 2:12:00 PM
I like the consistency of this pencil. It never grabs, and it goes on very easily and smoothly. The color is saturated, but I find it pretty easy to blend unlike some of the other reviewers. I use this pencil in the corner of my eyes and under them in the way that I used to use BeneFit Eye Bright. It makes a more noticeable difference. I will definitely repurchase, but at the rate I'm using it, it will be quite a while before I run out.

Eye Shadow -Stila - Silk Eye Shadow Wash in Kitten
jiffiner 7/5/2008 6:10:00 PM
I actually really like this product, I think even better than the powder version. On me the powder version seems too white, while this shadow wash looks a little more golden and matches my skin tone better. I also like the cooling effect it has. It is kind of hard to spread on my eye, but I stipple it on and it evens out. The doe foot wand isn't that great. The staying power seems at least average if not better. I think the key word in this product is "wash" which indicates to me that it will be thinner and sheerer than other products.

Styling Products -Sally Hershberger - Supreme Head Style Primer for Normal to Fine Hair
jiffiner 7/3/2008 1:49:00 PM
Wow! I'm really impressed with this product and the whole line. I have impossibly fine and flat hair, and nothing ever seems to work for very long or very well. I've tried all kinds of root sprays and the Bumble and Bumble products with insignificant results. On the other hand, this stuff is great. It's a mousse that doesn't really feel sticky, but it does help other styling products adhere better. I also use it all on its own as a styling product, and it does increase the body in my hair by itself. It seems to last all day, too. Another thing I love about this is that it never feels heavy or sticky or greasy, which have all been complaints of mine with other products. I did use too much the first time, but still it didn't feel greasy - just weighed my hair down too much to style properly. It may take a couple of days to figure out exactly how much you need - for my fine hair that sits a little below my shoulders it's about a pump and a half. I keep waiting for it to stop working, but so far I've found a product I'll buy over and over. I do get some product build-up after several days of use, but one day of clarifying shampoo takes care of it, and I go back to it the next day. I can't say enough great things about this product! The only thing I don't like about it is the hot pink packaging with gold text. The gold is difficult to read.

Lipstick -Christian Dior - Dior Addict High Shine lipstick in Beige-a-Porter
jiffiner 7/1/2008 1:52:00 PM
This is my new HG nude color! I have a very hard time finding nudes to suit my coloring. They either look too orange or too gray. But this one is just right. It's on the pink side of beige, with tiny sparkle flecks that are not too big but not unnoticeable. The formula is so smooth, and the coverage is just right - not too sheer and not too opaque. The staying power is excellent. There's no fading, no feathering, no line around my lips, no smell or taste. My only complaint would be the packaging. In its case the lipstick color is only visible on the underside, which means I can't store it right side up so that I can easily see the color. This isn't a problem right now since this is the only color I own, but after this one I'll buy more.

Eyeliner -Urban Decay - 24-7 Glide on eyeliner in 1999
jiffiner 7/1/2008 1:37:00 PM
I love this purple liner on my greenish-blue eyes! The pencil is quite soft, which makes application and blending a cinch! Negatives are that the color payoff is not as intense as I'd hoped, and that with this particular color the pencil itself seems to wear down faster than other UD 24/7 colors I've worn. This can be dangerous because I've snagged my eyelid on the wood around the tip of the pencil. This is probably because I swipe it across my eye several times to make up for the weaker color payoff, so it wears down faster. But the color is so unique and pretty and the formula is so soft that I will continue to purchase it. It was my first 24/7 purchase and since then I've bought three more colors.

Lipstick -NARS - Sexual Healing
jiffiner 7/1/2008 1:21:00 PM
I'm on the fence about this color. I may be one of the people who is too fair to pull it off. I really like the way it looks on me outside in daylight - a peachy nude. Under fluorescent/store lights it looks gray/silver on me. However, it does feel good on, and has pretty good staying power. The color is very unique.

Lotions/ Creams -Aveeno - Daily Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen spf 15
jiffiner 7/1/2008 1:15:00 PM
I'm not a fan of the Positively Radiant body lotion because of the scent and the feel of it, but I really like this one. It moisturizes as well as my HG Curel, but with the added benefit of SPF. It doesn't have a strong fragrance, and it doesn't irritate my skin. My one complaint with Aveeno is that the pumps often quit working so that I have to totally remove the cap to get the product out, so one lippie off for that.

Lip Gloss -Boots - Botanics Lip Gloss in Mallow
jiffiner 7/1/2008 1:05:00 PM
This is a very pretty natural looking pinkish-nude gloss. I don't see this color very often in other brands. I was afraid it would look ashy or gray on me, but it seems like the color almost adjusts to suit my skin tone. It feels good on, and the scent is quite pleasant. My only complaint would be that the staying power is not that great.

Lipstick -Vincent Longo - Wet Pearl Lipstick- Olympia Rose
jiffiner 7/1/2008 1:00:00 PM
I would say the color leans more to the pink side than peach on me, but overall the previous color descriptions are accurate. I can see it being flattering on a wide variety of skin tones. This lipstick has very good staying power, and I love the SPF. I guess this is par for the course given the name, but I wish there were a tad less pearl to it. It almost looks irridescent in some light, but it's not freakish. Feels good on and lasts a long time.
