Polishes -Hard Candy - Mr. Wrong
jg0427 9/3/2010 1:54:00 AM
I haven't written a product review here YEARS - but had to for Mr. Wrong. I was waiting forever for a prescription to be filled at Wal-Mart and the cosmetics aisle was right next to the prescription counter. I was so happy to see Hard Candy nail polish back again, I had really missed it. It used to be one of my regular splurges at Nordstrom. Compared to the "old," more spendy polish they used to make, this new one still has a fantastic consistency and coverage. They also still come with the useless cheap platic ring just like before, which imho they could have ditched. It's not cute. The only real difference between the new polish and the old is that this brush is not the best. It's smaller, shorter, and doesn't pick up enough polish or apply the polish well like the old one. I can't say anything further about the color than what's been said. It's a gorgeous silvery eggplant, that can look guntmetal or even gold depending on how the light hits it. It makes me happy to see my nails this color, and brought back a bit of nostaglia to do my nails with Hard Candy again, but with a very modern color. Will def be trying the other colors since they're so very inexpensive - but from what I saw this will be my favorite in the line.

Lip Treatments -Smashbox - Tinted Lip Treatment in Smashing Ray
jg0427 1/5/2006 9:43:00 PM
This is my new HG Lip Treatment and casual lip color.
As a lip treatment, it performs wonderfully. It goes on very smoothly with no tugging or drag, yet is is not greasy at all. The formula is amazing. A plus is that it has SPF 15.
Smashing Ray is described as a Sheer Berry, and that is pretty accurate. It has a purplish/deep pink cast to it. On a casual day when you're wearing minimal makeup, this would function as the perfect lipstick. The shimmer is very subtle.
It comes in an attractive white tube.
I LOVE this product and will never be without it. I'm looking forward to trying a few other colors, but I know this will be my favorite.

Fragrances -Thierry Mugler - Alien
jg0427 10/12/2005 2:20:00 PM
I received a 1 oz. refillable bottle of this as a gift, and I have to say it is one of the most horrible odors I have ever been subjected to. Alien is incredibly strong and overpowering, and it is similar to cat urine in that you just can't get the scent out of anything. I had my sweater dry cleaned that I was wearing when I tried Alien for the first time, and when it came back there was still a faint trace of this stinker in my sweater. This hasn't happened with any other fragrance. The smell also got in my pillow and bedding, which all had to be washed twice before the smell was really gone. I imagine this is what alien b.o. would smell like.

Primer/ Corrector -Estee Lauder - Prime FX Color Neutralizing Primer in Yellow
jg0427 3/9/2005 1:36:00 PM
What a letdown. This was a product I "had to have," and I bought it without trying it first. Prime FX is just a big disappointment and a waste of money. Like other reviewers have said, it really doesn't cut redness, and the shimmer is just awful - this is definately not a daytime product. In daytime or office lighting, its terrible. Great concept, good packaging & marketing, bad product.

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
jg0427 11/12/2004 12:52:00 AM
I got this as part of a GWP and I felt so ripped off. I can't believe they even still make this stuff. I figured anyone who used this was either ancient or dead by now.
It was so funny - I mentioned to my dermatologist that I got this and she said she actually sees a few patients a year who come in with clogged pores, irritated skin and/or acne because they were talked into Clinique's 3-step system by a SA. Her opinion was that Clinique has some nice moisturizers, and she didn't know why they still sold this one.

Scrubs -Origins - True Grit Fruit-Sloughing Body Gel
jg0427 11/12/2004 12:45:00 AM
I could not live without this scrub!!! Allow me to preface this review by saying that I use two different kinds of scrubs. The first is the kind with oils in it, which I use a few times a week (or more in the winter) to exfoliate and moisturize. The second kind I use at the gym after working out. It has no oils & functions as a cleanser(this is the category True Grit falls into).
Why do I love this product? First of all, Origins had the common sense to finally make a shower scrub that comes in a squeeze tube instead of a tub. Also, this product has a nice grainy consistency (my preference would be that it was a little grittier, but this still does the job), it smells great, and it makes a nice lather (which is hard to find in a scrub).
I used to swear by Clinique's Sparkle Skin after workouts, but now I swear by True Grit.

Scrubs -Rodan and Fields - RADIANT Exfoliate Microdermabrasion Paste
jg0427 11/11/2004 11:58:00 PM
Wow, my experience with this product could not be any more different than the last reviewer. After using this product, I'd have to call the manufacturer Dr. Sadistic and Dr. Evil.
"Radiant" is just a terrible, harsh product. I don't have sensitive skin, and the complaint I have about most scrubs is that they are not "scrubby" enough. However, this product's scrub particles were large and had sharp, jagged edges. The grains felt like they were putting hundreds of microscopic scratches in my face and they stung. Even worse was the fact that the product was oily. After using this, I had to wash my face twice with my regular cleanser. All of this left my skin terribly dry and tight.
I received a generous sized sample of this with my latest gloss.com purchase, so maybe I got a bad batch or something. I would give this zero lippies if that was an option. I would strongly recommend that you try a sample of this on your hand before purchasing it or applying it to your face.
***EDIT*** This scrub was so heinous that I did some research on it. The scrub contains salt. Now WHY would someone use a salt scrub on their face??? The jagged particles + salt = the stinging I felt. It also has silicone in it, which is why when I put this on my wet face, it felt like an oil slick and took two washings with my regular cleanser to remove. Terrible stuff - stay away!

Lotions/ Creams -Pure and Basic - Natural Bath & Body Lotion - Caribbean Heat
jg0427 11/11/2004 9:14:00 AM
I bought this lotion at Whole Foods for $6.99 for a 12 oz. bottle. I have been using it for about 2 weeks, and I have to say that it is a terrific product for the price. This lotion has green tea & alpha hydroxy acids in it. I live in Chicago, where it is cold and the indoor air is VERY drying from the heating system. In the Fall and Winter, my legs tend to get a bit flaky, but I haven't had any flakes since using this. This lotion is completely non-greasy. I actually like some oil in my moisturizers, so I use rich cream (like TBS Body Butter) after bathing, and then use the Pure & Basic throughout the day on my hands and all over at bedtime. I really like the Caribbean Heat scent, I can smell very light coconut/pineapple/floral in it. Nice pump applicator, too. When I repurchase I will get this in the Fuji Apple Berry, which also smelled great.

Masks -Alba Botanica - Hawaiian Papaya Enzyme Facial Mask
jg0427 11/10/2004 9:22:00 AM
This is a really nice facial mask. It is relaxing, cooling, and hydrating. You only need to leave it on for 5 minutes, and after you rinse it off any flaky areas are cleared and the skin is left with a dewy finish. The papaya loosens the dead skin cells, so skin looks radiant afterwards. As with the other products in this line, I only wish it was packaged in a squeeze tube instead of a jar.

Moisturizers -Alba Botanica - Hawaiian Aloe & Green Tea Oil Free Moisturizer
jg0427 11/10/2004 9:17:00 AM
I love this moisturizer! I used it all summer long and did not have one breakout. It leaves the skin with a really nice dewy finish. Plusses: Oil free, natural (non-animal) ingredients, and very light scent. The only possible change I would make is to package this moisturizer in a tube, because personally I don't care for products in jars or tubs.

Toners -Alba Botanica - Hawaiian Hibiscus Facial Toner
jg0427 11/10/2004 9:13:00 AM
This is such a nice product. It is gentle, yet does still manage to lift "dirt" off the face, even right after cleansing. The flip-top bottle is handy, and it smells great. Will definately purchase again.

Lipstick -Urban Decay - Ink Lip Stain Naked
jg0427 7/2/2004 3:09:00 AM
Awesome product! Perfect color, great staying power and very nice packaging. This is a nice warm neutral brown - very similar to MAC's Chelsea lipstick. If applied to clean, dry lips and allowed to set, it last hours on end with just a light coat of lip gloss or lip balm. I like the chubby pen-style applicator. This is one of those HG products that I pray will never be discontinued.

Eye Shadow -Cover Girl - Eye Enhancers Trio - Cafe au Lait #105
jg0427 6/28/2004 5:44:00 AM
I needed to use up an expiring CVS store credit and picked this up because the colors were nice. Once I tried it, I was very regretful of this purchase. Good colors, but the product was cheap and so was the(lack of) quality. Poor pigment quality and no stay-power. Also, the cheap powder creased terribly. I would not recommend this product nor would I ever purchase it again.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - Skin Conditioning In-Shower Body Moisturizer
jg0427 6/4/2004 5:23:00 AM
I purchased this in Sweet Pea and was very disappointed. I ran right out to B&BW as soon as I heard about it because I liked the concept.
Well, this product is Greasy, Pore-clogging, Sticky and just plain GROSS! Not the way you want to feel after a shower. I can't imagine how the grossness factor would be multiplied using something like this in the hot summer.
The first ingredient is water, and the second is Petrolatum, so it's basically like slopping diluted overpriced vaseline on your body while in the shower.
This product doesn't seem to really moisturize, it just performs as a greasy barrier between water and the skin. The product does not penetrate. It is more like Turtle Wax for the skin (yes, after application the water just beads up on you).
Don't waste your money on this. But if you do...1) don't use this greasy product in the summer (except maybe on your legs), 2) don't get it anywhere near your back, underarms or privates, 3) be careful in the shower because it will be coated with a thick, sebum-like grease, 4) If you have long hair, DON'T let any of this waxy susbstance get on it.

Masks -Neutrogena - Hydrating Facial cloth mask
jg0427 7/8/2003 8:38:00 AM
I received a free sample of this product. While it was very cooling and soothing and felt nice while it was on, it did NOTHING for my skin once it was removed. If it was a LOT cheaper, I may have purchased it just for the relaxation/pampering benefit - but with no real results, it is definately not woth the money.
