Primer/ Corrector -L'Oreal - Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base
rated 2 of 5

I ran out of my Avon Magix so I decided to try this Magic Perfecting because I don't have an Avon lady right now, plus I had an event coming up and needed it pronto. I don't like this L'Oreal perfecting base. It's crumbly, it gets stuck under my fingernails, it's hard to scoop out of the small jar. I can't wait to use it up and get back to the Avon one which is much better and cheaper.

Moisturizers -Merlot - Moonlight Radiance Natural Grape Seed Night Cream
rated 5 of 5
jesssala 3/3/2013 5:11:00 PM

My hubby started using this and he's getting comments from the guys about what is it that he's using! I started using this a few months ago. I sometimes use my Lancome Genefique under this to add moisture. No where on the Merlot label does it say that it moisturizes (just says helps to retain moisture). If you want moisture/hydration use something else. This cream "promotes collagen formation and helps to reduce deep lines and wrinkles" and I am happy to report that it's doing that for both me and the hubby! It's a bit pricey - I paid $19.99 at Walgreens, but it works for me. I also use it on my hands at night. BTW - this is always out at my Walgreens. I've been trying to get it for a few weeks now since we are running low, and when I walked into Walgreens yesterday they only had three left on the shelf. The packaging is nothing special, but again, I'm all about quality and results and I don't really care what the label looks like.

Polishes -Revlon - Colorstay in Bare Bones
rated 5 of 5
jesssala 3/3/2013 4:54:00 PM

This is a beautiful neutral for my olive skin. Works great if you tend to wear silver jewelry. It looks so great on me that I usually buy two bottles because I noticed that it tends to sell out! I use Essie's "Rock solid" as the base coat, then two coats of the "Bare Bones" color. It does take some time to dry so I recommence letting the first coat dry completely, then do the second coat and let that completely also. I top it off with "Out the Door" by inm which seals in the gloss. I wait about 5 minutes and then I run my nails under freezing cold water. This hardens up the polish. This usually last me a good 7 days before I see chips. The other Colorstay colors I use are "Rich Raspberry," "Stormy Night," and "Natural Tan." They all look beautiful and I get quite a few compliments on the polish - this is a great nail enamel! I don't really care what the packaging looks like, I'm all for simplicity. Besides, I just want a great product. If it's wonderful could not care less what the bottle looks like.

Treatments -Lancome - genefique
rated 5 of 5

I can actually go without makeup again - almost. I still need a little bit of concealer, which is ironic because I got a sample of Genefique as a GWP when I bought my trustee, never-fail Lancome Renergie Lift Makeup. I tried it for a few days then forgot about it. But I had been having a new problem with my skin for a few months. It seems like since I hit 40 earlier this year, my skin just went to heck. It was so dry and if I didn't exfoliate twice a day it was awful, the dead skin was literally just there on my skin instead of floating off or whatever it did before when my skin was younger. So I started using Genefique under my makeup day and then at night. One day I realized that the dry/dead skin problem was gone! The only thing I did different was use Genefique. Soon after that, I also noticed that my skin looked pretty good with no makeup on. I just needed a bit of concealer under the eyes, I put on the Genefique and my moisturizer, some face powder and that was it ( and eyeliner and mascara of course!). I am almost out of my little sample and I will gladly pay the 90 bucks that it costs because this it solved my dry/dead skin problem and I have not have to use my exfoliation cream and sponge for a few weeks now. I read somewhere that you have to try products for 28 days for you to know if they work, so I can say that I've been using this product for at least that long. A little goes a long way since it's kind of runny and I had my doubts at first because of that, but I am sold. Although I just turned 40, when I meet new people they think I'm 27-31! I love this stuff!

Shampoo -Davines - Love Smoothing Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
jesssala 12/23/2011 6:32:00 PM

I'd never of "Dah-vee-ness" until my new hair dresser told me about it. I'm happy to say that my hair finally looks shiny and stays cleaner longer. I used to have a lot of itchy scalp and since I've been using this I no longer have that problem. This is how my hairdresser suggested I use the shampoo and conditioner: - You need very little product, just a couple of dabs at the top of the head, middle and toward the nape of the neck and work it in. - Rinse shampoo thoroughly and towel dry - DO NOT use the conditioner in the shower. - Follow with the Davines conditioner on the TOWEL DRIED HAIR, but just about a nickel size and work through ends of towel dried hair and eventually run a wide-tooth comb to distribute, but you want to get the ends more attention. - Blow dry and style (I usually flatiron) My hair has never felt or looked better, I love the smell, not too overpowering or fake like the mass market brands. I love the packaging - I'm trending toward all things simple and I like that this packaging doesn't "yell" at me like other packaging does. It just communicates peace and calm which is what both the shampoo and conditioner have done to my hair. Last week, I made the mistake of trying the Tresseme sample that came in the mail, omg, one use and I couldn't get that crap out of my hair. The next day, I tried to use the Davines and it didn't work and my hair felt worse and I started to panic. I figured the Tresseme caused a ton of build up, so I used the Neutrogena buildup remover shampoo for two days in a row before I used the Davines again and I prayed that my hair would go back to the way it was before I tried the Tresseme. Thank god it worked. My advice to those who try the Davines -use a buildup remover shampoo first to remove cheap shampoo leftovers in your hair, and then start on the Davines. I should have never tried that mail sample, but hey, lesson learned. I used to use the Giovani conditioner but this Davines blows it away. Two thumbs up for Davines: My hair Ioves it !

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara
rated 1 of 5
jesssala 10/6/2011 10:53:00 PM

My #1 gripe? It made my lashes fall out when I removed. I tested this by switching to another mascara on and off and every time I used Falsies my (real) lashes ended up in the sink. Plus - too much product on the brush when you pulled out.

Conditioner -Giovanni - 50/50 Balanced Remoisturizer
rated 5 of 5
jesssala 7/4/2011 3:01:00 PM

Like several of the other comments, I was looking for better ingredients in my conditioner. That being said, this is pricier but well worth it. My hair is medium thick and neither curly nor straight, just an ugly in between. I use this as both the shampoo and conditioner, just put a ton on until I ran run my fingers through my wet hair smoothly. If my fingers are still not running through completely smooth, I put more on, then rinse very well. It's quite a project to squeeze the product out of the bottle, so I recommend storing it upside down. I've been trying to grow my hair out so I just air dry my hair (after putting in the Garnier Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk in towel-dried hair) and this leaves my hair moisturized without a heavy feeling. I haven't used anything else in MONTHS! Especially good at balancing out hair after I put a demi-permanent color on it.

Styling Products -Garnier - Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk
rated 5 of 5
jesssala 7/4/2011 2:45:00 PM

First used this at a girlfriend's when my flat-ironed hair started puffing due to humidity. "Here. Put this on it," said insisted. I saw the word "milk" on the package and thought "Oh this can't be good..." Boy was I wrong. It calmed the puff right away. I was so impressed. I ran out and bought some the next day. Since I'm trying to grow out my hair and am no longer flat ironing it, I used this on my wet-from-the-shower hair and let air dry. I just comb and clip the bang part while wet to keep it straight. The result? Bouncy waves that I just clip up a la "can't-be-bothered-with-my-hair" European style. I haven't flat-ironed my hair in weeks (well, sometimes just the bangs) and hair is healthier than ever. My hair is medium-thick, not curly and not straight, it's now a pretty wave. Verdict - it works great on wet or dry hair, YAY!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic in Carbon Black
rated 5 of 5
jesssala 7/4/2011 2:22:00 PM

Long lashes that last and last! Telescopic in Carbon Black is excellent for giving length! I was a bit afraid to purchase this as I had tried the Voluminous Carbon Black and it smudged everywhere after 2 hours - not so with this one. Well, just a little toward the end of the day but nothing to really complain about. My day was spent outside in 90 degree heat with a decent humidity level of at least 60%. Usually mascaras lose their power after a few hours and when I got home and checked the mirror, they still looked young, flirty and fresh, yes! I don't even wear that much eyeliner anymore because this gives so much definition. The wand was a bit tricky to get used to, but I got my round two-sided makeup mirror and angled it so I looked down at it and that technique works perfect. While it washes off with soap and water, I agree with the user who also suggested to use a makeup remover to get it completely off. Love, love LOVE!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous in Carbon Black
rated 3 of 5

I really love the color on this, a beautiful, deep, gorgeous black that I have never seen in any other drugstore brand. But by 10 a.m. I have smudges and spend the rest of the day looking in the mirror and wetting a tissue to wipe underneath my lower lashes (and this is that I only put it on the upper lashes!). Love the color, hate the smudging, alas, I will not re-purchase.

Brows -Laura Geller - Brow Marker
rated 5 of 5
jesssala 3/11/2009 11:08:00 PM

I bought dark brown and taupe, use both interchangeably although I could probably just do the dark brown for evening. I have very dark brown almost blac k brows and both of these colors look great. Like another reviewer said, once you get the hang of using the "marker" on your brows, it's the easiest thing. It stays on all day. My powder would never last all day. This one does. I'm on the lookout at QVC for the next time Laura Geller is on. This is stuff make my eyebrows look happy! Only problem is I wish the cap could snap on the end like a real marker does. However, I think if it did that many people would forget to uncap it and recap, thereby drying it out. But still...

Lip Gloss -Lancome - Lancome Juicy Tubes
rated 1 of 5
jesssala 3/11/2009 11:00:00 PM

According to the label it's supposed to be "ultra shiny" which it is not. It seemed shiny enough at the counter, but I've had it for a few months now and everytime I put it on I'm disappointed. I'm using it as a lip balm now because it doesn't do more than that. For ultra shiny I love Avon's "mark." brand for $5 a pop. I love my Lancome Renergie foundation and Lancome eyeshadows but this lip gloss is a waste of precious money.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - AmLactin 12%
rated 5 of 5

With flip-flop season around the corner... My dermatologist recommended to me for my dry feet. Slather it on at night, put socks on, so this for about three days and your feet are pretty again! I do this for a week to get ready for wearing flip-flops! I also started putting a little on my forehead, it was getting a little flaky and this took care of it overnight. The AHAs do the trick.

Shampoo -Giovanni - Smooth as Silk
rated 5 of 5
jesssala 3/11/2009 10:04:00 PM

This really moisturizes my hair! It's been fighting back the awful heat from the heaters that are on 24/7 because it's 10 degrees outside. My hair was getting close to straw when I tried this and it's bounced back. I wait for this to go on sale at Walgreens and stock up. I've never paid the full price for it. I was originally attracted to this because (1) it's organic and (2) the package design (bravo to Giovanni's marketing dept!) and (3) ZERO sulfates. My scalp's condition has actually improved since I started using this grapefruit scented Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture shampoo. I also bought the coordinating conditioner, it's okay, but I find the Aveda Smooth Infusion Conditioner does a much better job ( but you also pay for it). The Giovanni conditioner is good for everyday if you want to save the more expensive one for a one or twice a week treatment/indulgence.
