Lipstick -Maybelline - Lust for Blush Color Whisper
rated 3 of 5
jessamay 5/7/2013 8:17:00 PM

I am fair skinned and the reviews for paler complexions had been good so I gave it a try. The color was nice but the product does not last at all on my lips and it is not very hydrating for me (my lips are very dry) so it is not working for me. But now I use it on my cheeks now and I like it a lot. Very pretty, highlighted pink so I will be using this as a blush.

Fragrances -Serge Lutens - A La Nuit
rated 4 of 5
jessamay 4/12/2013 1:22:00 PM

When I walk the dog early in the morning or late at night, I get hit with the beautiful smell of night blooming jasmine sometimes and that what this perfume is - pure jasmine in all it's glory (which also means it borders on too sweet). I only have touched the surface of Serge Lutens scents but the few I have tried are either very complex or straightforward like this one. Nothing mysterious about what it is - so if you like jasmine, this is a great scent. I gave it a 4 as it does not last long on me and it is fairly faint which is probably good as too much of a good thing can be over powering!

Styling Products -Sebastian - Potion 9
rated 5 of 5
jessamay 4/11/2013 1:31:00 PM

I know this has been around forever and I know I must have tried this back in the early 90s (as I remember the smell and I think it came in a toothpaste type looking tube then) but I must not have liked it then. My goal in the late 80s/early 90s was big hair and with my fine hair, anything that cause it to be smoother was not a good product for me then. Now my goal is smooth, shiny, healthy looking hair. I highlight my hair and I am growing it longer than normal so it gets like straw at the ends and looks terribly dull. This has REALLY worked to give me shine and swing and touchable softness. It does not help much in the volume department but it does give it a little body. If I am feeling like it - I will add a root volume spray and I get more volume and I am really happy with the results. I think it is a great product - wish it was cheaper but I think it will last a long time.

Sunscreen -Unlisted Brand - Elta MD UV Daily SPF 40
rated 5 of 5
jessamay 2/14/2013 11:13:00 AM

Hands down - this is one of the (if not "the") best moisturizing, physical sunscreen out there. I have dry skin so getting a physical sunscreen that is not drying is important and this is the first one to do it and really get it right. Vanicream is also moisturizing but it is just too greasy for the face. Elta MD has no white cast at all and is non-irritating. My only complaint is it is not cheap but since it exceeds my needs in a facial sunscreen, I will keep buying it.

Hair Styling Tools -Unlisted Brand - Tangle Teezer
rated 4 of 5

I bought this at Sally's a week ago and it was not cheap (around $14 but it just seems like such a cheap item). I wish I could have found it on sale at Target like a reviewer below. I bought it as I have fine, thin, colored (blond) hair and I am getting a lot of breakage around my forehead. I have tried everything product wise to cut down on the breakage but nothing is working. So I thought to try this and I will have to report back after months of use to see if it helps. My initial thoughts are it is very awkward to use/hold. Parting my hair with it is a bit comical. I am sure i will get used to it with time. I can't imagine it being very useful to people with a lot of hair (you lucky folks). It does go through my wet hair easier than my comb BUT it is not effortless - just easier. I am hoping this will help with the breakage - time will tell.

Mascara -Jordana - Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara
rated 3 of 5
jessamay 11/3/2012 1:38:00 PM

I was not impressed with this mascara and that is even with the price being so reasonable. My long but thin lashes did not look any fuller and I find the formula hard to apply correctly. I get little clumps, like tiny drops, at the end of each lash and it makes the lashes kinda stick together. The brush reminds me of the L'Oreal Lash Out brush which I love but it does not work with this formula. I wish I liked it as it is a great price but I won't be buying it again.

Scrubs -Murad - AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser
rated 4 of 5
jessamay 10/8/2012 1:39:00 PM

I have to start off saying I did not purchase this product - I received in a gift bag at a charity event. I have been using this for over a month and I really like it - it does not work miracles but as someone mentioned below but it does a great job of lightly exfoliating and my skin seems smoother and a bit brighter. I use it only in the morning in the shower so I don't use it to take my makeup off. That being said, I went to Sephora and was taken aback at the price. I like this very much and a little goes a long way but I have never paid more than $10 for a facial cleanser. I don't think scrubbing my face for a minute gives AHA/BHA a chance to really work BUT I have seen results with this so I am kinda stumped. I will purchase this when I run out and I will see how I feel after spending money on it. But as of now, it is my favorite cleanser. As of now...

Styling Products -Redken - Satinwear 02 ultimate blow-dry lotion
rated 5 of 5
jessamay 10/3/2012 11:53:00 AM

I received a free sample of this and all I can say is, "thank goodness"! I love this stuff and I will be purchasing it. I have my fine, thin hair colored and it gets very straw like at the ends. I use Redken Extreme anti snap leave in treatment first and then I use this and I get the smoothest hair I have had in a while. This does not weigh my hair down at all which is impressive as my fine hair is just so limp. It does add a little body/grip to my hair so I often just use this with no product for volume. But if I want oomph, I will use a spray or cream product for volume. I am very happy I found this and if you want smooth hair, I highly recommend this.

Sunscreen -Coppertone - Sensitive Skin Faces SPF 50
rated 5 of 5
jessamay 8/9/2012 2:00:00 PM

I join the others who "love love love" this sunscreen. High SPF and it does not break me out nor leave me too dry or oily. It is easy to find at drugstores and the price is right. I know it is scarey at first as it does go on with a heavy white cast but for fair skin, this sinks in within a couple of minutes. For darker skin, I can imagine adding a tinted moisturizer to it would help though it may not work for those who are not pale. It does not sting or irritate my sensitive skin nor break me out and it is a solid sunscreen. I keep trying more expensive facial sunscreens but they are not as good all around. I will just relax about it and let it sink in that I found something that works all around for my face...ah, finally!!!

Sunscreen -Hawaiian Tropic - Sheer Touch Crème Lotion SPF 50
rated 5 of 5
jessamay 7/20/2012 11:50:00 AM

I am really surprised by this product and I am loving it. It was half off at a drugstore so I thought why not (the word "sheer" got me). Unlike other reviewers, I don't mind the thickness of the cream as it blends in nicely and does not feel heavy on top of my skin. I love that they make a 50spf and it seems to screen the sun very well. I don't use it on my face and my only complaint is that it has a light, play-dough scent but that fades quickly and I prefer that to a fake, coconut smell (or any other added in fragrance). If you are not afraid of using a cream I would highly recommend this.

Self Tanners -Banana Boat - Sunless Summer Color Tinted Lotion Light/Medium
rated 2 of 5
jessamay 6/25/2012 5:50:00 PM

Maybe I am missing something here as many seem to really like this self tanner but I don't think it works very well and the scent they use to cover up the self tanner smell is quite strong and not pleasant. I am using this on my legs so I can only imagine how strong the smell would be if I used is closer to my nose. I am very fair with yellow undertones and this color is OK on me. It veers towards golden brown but it doesn't quite make it - it looks a little more like yellow brown. The application is decent as it goes on smoothly (though it does not seem to sink in or really stick) and as others have noted, it washed off quickly. It really is the smell that ruins this one for me. I might buy again but as the color is only OK, the smell cancels it out. I will keep looking for a great, cheap self tanner to replace the expensive ones I do love - Clarins and St. Tropez....

Cleansers -Derma E - Glycolic Facial Cleanser with Marine Plant Extracts
rated 2 of 5
jessamay 6/22/2012 2:42:00 PM

Like many reviewers - this breaks me out. I get tiny little pimples around my mouth, chin and cheeks. They are very odd and this is very frustrating to me as otherwise, this product works really well. It actually smooths my skin and it is one of the few things that makes some headway with my longtime, flesh colored clogged pores/pimples. But then it gives me the angry, little red ones so I can't use it. If this does not break you, I can imagine this being a really good product.

Hair Color -Clairol - Radiance Colorgloss translucent deposit only color
rated 4 of 5
jessamay 6/6/2012 12:39:00 PM

I used to bleach and tone my own hair a few years ago and I used Clairol toners which I really loved. It saved me some money until my hair just got fried. Now I have it done and my recent highlights were just too light (almost white). I went looking for my toners only to find they are discontinued. So I reached for this. I did a combo of 10n and 8n. The formula is fine and application was easy. I think next time I would go with just 10n as it did deposit a little more color than I wanted as it is a touch drab. But I appreciate the white is toned down. I don't think my hair is much glossier but it is in no worse shape than before. I noticed on the Clairol Pro website they recommended another of their products to replace what I used to use as toner so I will try that next. But this is good and I would happily use the lighter color again.***UPDATE*** My most recent home highlighting effort was good except for my face framing highlights (meaning stripe of white hair) and this time I used 8n and thank god for it. 10n did not deposit enough color and I needed to pub back some color. I do really like this product - so easy to use and relatively foolproof.

Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Mia
rated 3 of 5
jessamay 5/18/2012 10:54:00 AM

I did not technically buy this - I got it with credit card points so the price did not hurt as much as it could have. I have had this for two weeks. My situation - over 40, dry skin, major complaints are sun spots, dullness, dryness and small, acne bumps on forehead that won't go away. I got the Mia to see if it would help the bumps as nothing else does. In two weeks I have noticed t my skin is softer feeling but that is all. No change in the clarity (I did not really expect anything). I will give this more time to see if it can help the bumps in any way. The one thing negative I have noticed is my skin feels a bit dryer (something I don't need help with). I noticed many of the reviews on this product are from younger women so maybe it is really a good tool for oily and/or acne skin but not drier, mature skin. I will update more later.

Foundations -Garnier - BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-In-One
rated 3 of 5
jessamay 4/28/2012 12:23:00 PM

I had a tester of this and it seemed to be nice. I have the light/medium shade and I think it is an OK product. The shade does not work great for my very fair skin. If you are lucky and one of the two tones works for you, this might be a decent product for the price. My main issue, which was not as present in the sample, is the perfume smell. It makes my eyes water. I don't know why companies highly scent products that are meant to be put on the face. Body I understand but near your eyes and nose I don't get it. I will try to mix this in with moisturizer to diffuse smell and hopefully I can use it up. It does seem to offer some light coverage. But due to the perfume - I will not be buying this again. *****UPDATE: I have become somewhat immune to the smell and I am pretty happy with this product. I have cut it with my moisturizer and it gives good coverage still and that helps the color match for me. I now can say I will be buying this again.
