Scrubs -Philosophy - The Gingerbread Man (scrub)
rated 5 of 5

This stuff is awesome! I don't know what people are complaining about (below)!! The smell is divine, it lasts all night (I use this at night after I work out), and there is no oily mess in my shower!

I have to say that I never tried this because I don't like to smell like baked goods .... a bit a vanillia is nice, but really, chocolate or most of this food-based bath and body stuff I don't understand. Instead, this has a nice gingerly miers-lemony smell, warm but not obviously perfumy.

The smell aside, what you are really buying this for is the scrub! Nice and scrubby, rinses clean, no breakouts, just clean clean and smooth smooth. I like to shower first (hair, face) and let my skin get warm and water plumped up, then turn off the shower, scrub down (works better on slighly damp skin, as another reviewer has noted) and rinse off. Very nice and so cheep - half the price of Sugar body scrub - and is actually ALOT better - and I LOVE Sugar products!

Eye Shadow -Trish McEvoy - Eyeshadows

The best thing about Trish shadows is how they blend - awesome! Getting the "fade" light to dark - not problem. ANd the shimmer colors stay put. Plus you can get several colors, like 8!, in a single pan, which is great for space. Get the new large planner, put 8 shadows on top, a larger bronzer/all over face and two blushes on the bottom, and you are set for a season with lots of options and looks. I made a summer palette that ROCKS! Neutrals with peachy brights, a cool version of a bronzy look. No matter what I do with it, it turns out great. A am a fair brunette with blue eyes, so need some color, and I am just so impressed! I am making up a cool purple, grey, pink palette for winter right now. With these two, I am set. Plus, I can add extra's from other lines I love(like NARS) by adding the pans in and keep it all together. I love sorting out new looks for the week ahead. Very very convenient if you are a color collector. I wish she had more neutrals- but if you are deft at blending colors, you can get about anything out that you want. Edited palette is nice, you really cannot miss with these. Highly recommend.... only problem is, what am I going to do with all my BB shadows? Seem so stiff and hard to blend compared to these- they are packed harder in the pan, not so powdery, I can really notice the difference, and I wish the pans were smaller, so more would fit into my planner. I was soo into BB, but Trish is IT now.

Blush -Trish McEvoy - Easy Going
rated 5 of 5

Great basic pink/nude color. A can't miss for fair to medium skin. Is sort of cool, but would pop on a warm skin tone. Everyday shade - I keep one at home and one in my planner. Color is sheer w/ pigment, so you can be sloppy and still end up with good results. I am a NC25, Level 3 in Trish. Next to Tangerine and Nude and Sunkissed and Weekend in a compact, I have all my blush "moods" covered. Works great with NARS Dolce Vita sheer lip stick/gloss for a neutral look with strong eye makeup. Try it!

Highlighters -Trish McEvoy - All Over Face Powder- Sunkissed

Love this stuff. Go back to it over and over, almost daily, to contour, add a bit of color around the hairline, neck, chest, cheeks. Never wear a v-neck without a bit of this to even out the "polish" of my make up face and my neck line.

Is dry but not too dry, shimmery but not glittery, is "skin" color rather than a bronze, peach, pink or plum, so goes with everything. No breakouts. Just perfect. Love the planners and compacts. Buy a mini one (reusable) for $10 to have alone, or move around in the larger ones to create a "look". Keep one in my purse and one on my dressing table.

Liquid -NARS - Oilfree foundation
rated 5 of 5
jenno 11/3/2003 2:53:00 AM

The perfect matte foundation. Seriously, it will stay ALL DAY long. Layer to get more coverage. This stuff dries fast, which I like, since I am normally waiting for foundation to settle as I blend, this one does the drying quick and I finish up faster. The finish has a bit of movement to it, not slick, a bit stickier, so that you can touch up if during the day you get a smudge, although it is pretty transfer resistant, if you have oily skin you know that sometimes a pat or two can help settle a shiny spot. Really Really like it.

I am a NC25 and use Deauville (lighter) mixed with Figi (darker) - I vary the amount of each depending on the look I am going for. Polished look gets lighter, casual look gets darker. Pared with my MAC NC20 concealers I get a perfect look - toppped off with the Eden loose powder. LOVE it.

Better than:

Get a sample from Sephora (they are huge, enough for a week). If you have oily, combo, normal skin, you will love it too.

Great for covering blemishes or spots on the face (not appropriate for use alone under eye - you need blend with foundation or lotin or eye cream).

Concealers -MAC - Select Cover-Up in NC20

Good for undereye. Layer on and let dry between layers for more coverage (same as any liquid). Pretty good about not creasing, give a very nice bright look to the eye. Not appropriate for covering blemishes, marks, on face - for under eye only.

Loose Powders -MAC - Select Sheer Loose Powder
rated 3 of 5

The texture and oil-controling are okay with this one. Nothing super special but it is pretty cheap. My problem is that even the lightest color was at least 3 shades too dark.

I am a NC25-30 and the NC 20 shade is really about a NC35-40. Even with a light hand it made my face look a bit dirty, which just got worse as my natural face oils merged with the powder during the day.

I ended up returning it and getting my $$ back. If you can find a color match, it is a winner, but if you are lighter than NC35 - look somewhere else.

Liquid -MAC - Matte Foundation
rated 2 of 5
jenno 10/27/2003 4:14:00 PM

Humm, thought I liked it at first, the NC30 was a good match for my NC25 skin (it runs light). It blends out okay with a brush, except that it would tend to clump up and get in my brows - never had that happen before! Anyway, gave me major greasies and breakouts - took about 3 weeks for things to "develop" - my skin got oilier every day and I got new pimples about mid-day and never overnight. So, returned this today and got my $$ back.

Bought some NARs oil-free in Budapest instead, is a great match, and from the past 3 days sample (from Sephora, but only Neimans has this particular color in this formulation) I can tell it has some serious serious oil controlling action. Yea! Splurged on the powder (eden) and concealer (custard), too, but not sure about them yet.

Moral of the story is that if something is cheap, like half the price, it might really be only half as good. This one had good color, but bad formula. 50/50 quality.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Veluxe - Kid

wow - really like this one. it is actually kind of pinky toned to me. i am a NC25 and it makes a create wash color or crease (it intensifies with layering). great contour.

seems like people want only shadows with some bling-bling in them, from reading some reviews below, but basic shades are part of any makeup wardrobe - you need a base to put the sparklies on top of - or to wear alone if you work in an office.

similiar in color to some of the shade in the BB nude on nude palette - since both companies are estee lauder, I'm not surprised - there is alot of cross-over between the gloss.com brands - same shades, different packaging and marketing - and MAC is the least expensive by far. LOVE it.

took the pan out and put it into a palette with a mini BB beige shimmer and mini BB taupe and a MAC coal (black). made my own "nude on nude" palette for about half the price.

All glitter, no flush. Just not a good look for me! I am 30, good skin, NC25, blue eyes, lt. brown hair. Pink is usually very good for me, this was more silver than anything, I look better in gold. ;)

Cute package, probably good for someone who just

Misc Beauty Tools -Bobbi Brown - Beauty Trunk
rated 1 of 5
jenno 10/6/2003 6:11:00 PM

I almost bought it, but all the stuff you put in will fall around inside once you pick it up by the handle!!

I saw this in person ... the tray to hold the stuff is great if you still have shadows/blushes that are in individual pots/pans. If most of your stuff is in palettes, half the organizer is wasted (including the space underneath it if you have this in the trunk - which is ALOT of space!).

This would be best for a dressing table, but NOT so good for the trunk.

Why? Because if you put your stuff in here, close the lid of the trunk, then pick it up with the handle, the case is flipped on it's side and everything starts falling around loose inside! The handle should be on the top, like other makeup trunks cases! I am really bummed about the poor design.

However, you could just buy the trunk and put your other makeup bags/brush bags inside. But then, it is really just a big suitcase, doesn't really make it any different than the bags I use now to hold my stuff when I travel.

What you want is something that has trays or dividers in the case that will protect and organize for travel or home. If you plan to never take it anywhere, then the trunk itself if a waste - just buy the dividers and put those on your table. Unless you really want to lock and put it all away everyday (have small kids ..) and be careful to never use the handle, it does not seem worth it, and I LOVE BB stuff.

Conditioner -Aquage - Healing Conditioner

This is the best conditioner for everyday - a must if you color your hair. It melts and softens your hair on contact and when you rinses weightlessly out. Perfect. I still try other things but I don't know why I always come back to this one and say "ahhh".

Cleansers -Bobbi Brown - Gel Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
jenno 10/6/2003 1:02:00 PM

I love this. At first when I tried it a few years ago, the scent was really strong and the soap hurt my eyes. I tried it again an WOW, what a difference. She must have reformulated. Very gentle, yet thorough cleansing. I use the eye makeup remover most of the time, but sometimes when lazy I just use this gel and it removes everything and does not bother my eyes. The mild lavender scent is nice - lavender is a very clean, bathing appropriate smell. Overall, really like, is not too expensive, the tubes last forever, doubles as a brush cleanser. I have combo skin.

I love this stuff. The locking pump bottle is really nice, I can use it around my eyes without any stinging, it just soaks in, and is great to apply makeup over. I have combo skin.
