Mascara -L'Oreal - Full Definition Voluminous
jenjen80 3/30/2011 9:18:00 AM
I'm not sure what L'Oreal's definition of "definition" is, but it sure isn't the same as mine. Holy spider lashes! Guess that's what I get for not consulting MUA reviews before purchasing.

Eye Primer -Palladio - Herbal Eyeshadow Primer
jenjen80 6/15/2010 10:09:00 PM
Wow, I can't believe this has as good of reviews as it does! This is the worst eye primer I've ever used! I have dry lids, so I don't have creasing issues even if I go without an eye primer, but I like to use one so that I have a base for shadow to stick to. Sadly, this didn't help one bit. I wore MAC Family Silver, which is very shimmery, and just over an hour later my lids looked really dull and there was barely any shimmer left. By the end of the workday I looked like I hadn't slept at all last night. I'm returning it to Sally's and getting my $6.49 back!

Mascara -Hard Candy - 1,000 Lashes Fiberized Mascara
jenjen80 6/11/2010 3:36:00 PM
This is the first Hard Candy product I've purchased after they revamped their line and moved into Walmart that I haven't liked. Initially, when I applied this, I was pleasantly surprised at the results. It gives natural volume and a bit of length; it appeared to be a nice everyday (read: no major drama) mascara. However, upon first glance in the mirror after I got to work, it looked like I had several tiny lashes on my cheeks. Apparently the fibers don't stick to lashes very well, thereby rendering this pretty much useless. :-(

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Eden
jenjen80 1/29/2010 9:32:00 PM
Love love LOVE this! I have purple veins on my lids/browbone which seems to make eyeshadow colors read off from what they really are. This is the first eye primer I've found that corrects my problem! (Pic in profile with vs without). Of course it gives shadows great lasting power as well. This is paraben-free as well, so that's a bonus. After using this for 3 days, I can already confidently say this is my new HG! Edit: OK, I'm sad to say my love affair with this has fizzled. =( I have dry lids and this is hard to blend; I need something with slightly more slip to it. I can see it working if your lids aren't dry like mine are, but if they are, I'd say skip it.

Bronzers -Bonne Bell - Blend n Glow in Natural Blush
jenjen80 1/25/2010 9:19:00 PM
I love this stuff! Got it for $3-something at my local Meijer, who has a huge BB collection. I use it as a blush and, with a lighter hand, a highlighter, on days I don't feel like messing with using a separate blush and highlighter. It's such a pretty, natural color, and just adds a lovely gleam, not a ton of shimmer. I'll definitely be repurchasing.

Mascara -mark - Make It Big Lash Plumping Mascara
jenjen80 12/3/2009 8:39:00 PM
To sum this mascara up in one word: FAIL I don't know that I can add anything that other reviewers haven't already said. It is dry; whether that is just the formula or I got a bad tube I'll never know, because I don't plan on ordering it ever again. It is the only mascara that's ever removed the curl from my lashes. It causes them to get a bit droopy. I gave it 2 stars because it did add some volume without being clumpy.

Tinted Moisturizer -Hard Candy - Sheer Envy Tinted Moisturizer spf15
jenjen80 10/28/2009 1:04:00 PM
I was surprised to find that I really like this TM! So far I like it better than my Kiehl's TM, which I've been using for several months now. I love the texture, it's so creamy. It offers a perfect amount of coverage for me - it doesn't look like I'm wearing a mask, but it's enough to cover the light reddish splotches I get on my face after showering that last for several hours (if it weren't for that issue, I could get away with just a dusting of powder). The only thing that worries me is that it does contain silica, which made my skin bumpy when I was using Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel as a primer. I'm hoping that doesn't happen with this! Edit: Oh, Hard Candy, I will never forsake you again! I swapped this away because I got into trying some new foundations (MAC Mineralize Cream Foundation, Revlon PhotoReady & ColorStay, MUFE Face & Body...probably more if I think about it) and I'm kind of anal about not having too many open items at once. And how I regretted it! This looks so much better on me than any foundation that I've tried, and it works so well with my super-dry skin too. It just looks like my skin but better! And my skin hasn't reacted from it either, as I mentioned I was concerned about in my initial review. In fact, I've begun using the HC primer as well, so I don't think it was a silica sensitivity. Compared to most other brands, you get a generous amount for the price too.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara
jenjen80 7/3/2009 8:49:00 PM
I love, love, love this! I'd been tempted to try this because of all the raves on MUA, but I thought it remembered trying it back when it first came out and not loving it. Well, either they've changed the formula since then, or I was wrong about having tried it, because I'd remember this! This has been the best mascara I've used in a very long time, which thrills me because at full price it's only about $6 and you can pretty much count on it being in a weekly sale somewhere! It does exactly what its name says. It's like my lashes but much better; it's perfect for me because it only provides a little bit of lengthening but more volume, which is just what I need for my long but skinny lashes. Also, I don't have to use a lash comb after, which is rare for me unless I'm using a brush with a rubber or plastic wand. I just purchased this about 2 weeks ago and I've bought a backup already. Dare I say, new HG!

Mascara -Maybelline - Pulse Perfection™ by Define-A-Lash® Vibrating Mascara ] ] [DISCONTINUED]
jenjen80 6/3/2009 10:55:00 AM
Maybelline Define-a-Lash used to be my HG, and that is what Pulse Perfection is based on, so I couldn't resist trying this. It was a surprise to me that you have to hold the vibrate button down rather than it being on/off, and it's really pretty awkward to do because it's at the tip of the wand "handle," and I tend to grip it toward the bottom. It didn't really provide much volume, which is what I need more so than length - not really any better than the original Define-a-Lash, so there's an extra $7 I could have saved. This was my first experience with a vibrating mascara but based on this I probably won't be purchasing another.

Treatments -Clairol - Natural Instincts Shine Happy clear shine treatment
jenjen80 5/20/2009 9:42:00 PM
Do yourself a favor and save $7 by skipping this treatment. Buy the travel size of Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream for $9 and use a pea-size amount daily. It'll last you waaaay longer than any shine this may give (which is questionable), and it's much glossier. But since this isn't a review of the FF cream... To be fair, my hair is already pretty shiny and healthy since I don't color it, but I was expecting megawatt shine and this didn't deliver. My hair felt like straw for days afterward and I wasn't sure if it was from the hydrogen peroxide, or from the treatment residue clinging, since it's supposed to last up to 6 weeks. I took the chance of it being the latter and washed my hair several times with Joy dish liquid. After this and half a tube of Pantene deep conditioner later, my hair is back to normal. I gave it 2 lippies because the conditioner that comes with it is nice. In case I didn't make my position clear, I won't be repurchasing this.

Loose Powders -Coty - Airspun Fragrance Free Luminous Translucent Loose Powder
jenjen80 5/1/2009 3:16:00 PM
If I could marry a face powder, DH would be in trouble! I went into a Kmart that was going out of business last weekend and spontaneously bought this (for half price! $3.24) because I'd forgotten my regular Coty Airspun (we were away from home). Now I really wish I'd have gotten the last 2 they had! This seems to have even more coverage than the original Airspun, but that may be an optical illusion since it leaves such a pretty glow. It just leaves a soft, ethereal glow - it isn't the least bit glittery or sparkly. Just like the original, it is finely milled, and of course has that annoying plastic cover that you have to poke holes in (I found that a pointy pair of tweezers is perfect for this), and has a slight scent which I don't find to be cloying or lingering at all. I can't see myself replacing this with anything else in the near or distant future! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Mascara -Revlon - DoubleTwist
jenjen80 5/1/2009 10:15:00 AM
I really just need to stop buying Revlon mascaras because I've not liked a single one. I did actually like this one the first two times I used it. I don't know what happened after that - maybe the "filter" that removes the excess got worn down? But the wand comes out with SO much goop on it. I know I could wipe the excess off with a tissue, but why should I have to waste half of a mascara tube to make it work? My requirements for a good mascara include not having to wipe the wand off and for a great mascara include not having to use a lash comb - this mascara meets neither requirement (in fact, without either it looks like I have about 4 lashes because they are so clumped together), so it's going in my give-to-Mom-or-sister pile. Another $7 down the drain.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Extra-Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner
jenjen80 4/16/2009 7:44:00 AM
Finally! HG eyeliner! This goes on so smooth, no tugging, and it lasts! As the name says, it is intense black! I've been searching for the perfect black eyeliner and this is it for me. And that it retails at about $7 doesn't hurt either! Edit, 4/30/09: I've gotten a few PM's from gals wondering exactly what this is. Basically, it's a smooth gel liner in pencil form, supposedly with the intensity of a liquid liner. If you're a die-hard liquid liner user, I don't see this replacing it, but for someone like me who's terrible at applying LL, it's great. I also don't see the precision being quite on par with a LL, because after you sharpen it, it's not as tapered and smooth as it is new (but it's possible that that's my sharpener too; just a cheapie L'Oreal one). HTH! :o)

Mascara -Unlisted Brand - Apple By Apple - Super Lash
jenjen80 4/13/2009 10:40:00 AM
Thanks to the MUA'er who recommended this! I picked up 3 tubes on eBay for $13 and the seller threw in a 4th tube for free - can't beat that! I'm really impressed with this mascara. It volumizes more than lengthens, which is what I need, and it still manages to look natural.. No clumping or flaking, which I was suprised at because when you pull the brush out of the tube it looks like it would be kind of dry, but it isn't. I got 4 different kinds and I've primarily been using the Black - Negro shade. One of the other ones (green tube) is Aloe and it smells so good! I will definitely keep using Apple mascara, especially at this price!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Extra Volume Collagen mascara
jenjen80 4/13/2009 10:19:00 AM
I'm surprised this has gotten such negative reviews! I really like it! I picked it up on a whim this weekend (knowing that it didn't get favorable reviews, but oddly enough one reviewer's negative comment about it plumping individual lashes, not creating a "fringe," is what made me get it!). I think it's a perfect everyday mascara. I agree that it does fatten individual lashes rather than volumizing the entire lash area - if that makes sense - but for me, that is a positive; it is actually what I want for daytime. It doesn't clump or flake, it defines well, and the Blackest Black shade is indeed BLACK! I don't remove my eye makeup at night (bad, I know!) and it didn't even smear; it actually looked presentable the next morning! I've went a little crazy buying mascaras over the last month (probably 10 tubes!) but I think this is one I will definitely keep in my rotation.
