Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast Clump Crusher Water Resistant
jc2729 3/24/2013 12:12:00 PM
They should call this the Curl Crusher. Dropped my curl like a non-water resistant mascara. Adds a little length, no volume. Will never buy again.
Great foundation, gives medium coverage. Does not break me out (almost everything does!). The finish is satin/demi matte, though I still set with powder since my skin is combo-oily. I find the lasting power is dependent on the moisturizer I use underneath it-heavier with higher sunscreen, gets patchy and oily after 8 hours. Lighter, with less SPF, looks pretty good after 8 hours. I'm btw NC 20-25 and I use 3.0 for reference.
This is a great eyebrow pencil for those with black hair and sparse brows. It looks really natural and is easy to use. I would have preferred a spooly instead of the brush that it comes with, I find the brush just takes off the product I just put on. I have oily skin and I still find that this pencil lasts all day, and I work 10-12 hour days. All in all a great brow pencil for a really affordable price and I will definitely repurchase!
Eyeliner -Stila - Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
jc2729 9/3/2012 8:45:00 AM
This is a great liquid liner for those that prefer a pen type applicator. Easy to make a thin or thick line and makes a winged liner look a breeze. Its also super black and pigmented, you wont have to go over the same spot over and over to get a solid line. Its pretty waterproof as well, I have hooded monolid eyes so I have to draw a pretty thick line just to have a little liner visible with my eyes open. Most of where I put the liner on is in the fold of my lid which usually guarantees smudging. I've worn this liner for 16 hour days, first 8 no smudging by 12 hours there's a tiny bit of smudging and wear in my inner corners and by the end of the day there might be a slight gray shadow under my eyes, all easily fixed with a q-tip. But for someone who was used to constantly wiping under their eyes to prevent the dreaded panda eye, this is soooo worth the money! (fyi i use eyeshad. primer under all my liners, def. helps as well)
I had high hopes for this product since there were such great reviews. I have pretty oily skin and have been on an endless search for a sunscreen that would not make me extra oily, not break me out and wear well under makeup. This product feels really nice going on to the skin, very smooth like a primer which should have told me something as I cannot wear most primers since high levels of silicone do not agree with my skin. Unfortunately this product did not control my oil at all, it practically pooled oil and makeup around my nose and in my t-zone. It also emphasized pores I didn't even know I had on my nose, and to top it off after 2 weeks of using this I believe it is clogging my pores :( If your skin is like mine and you cant use most silicone based primers because they don't control oil and they clog your pores, pass on this product.
Liquid -Make Up For Ever - Mat Velvet PLUS Matifying Foundation
jc2729 7/11/2012 11:35:00 AM
Decided to try this foundation after hearing great things about it, I was hoping it would be a good summer foundation since I get extra oily during hot weather. Unfortunately I was not impressed with this formula. Far from being matte, I was shiny within an hour and just plain oily within 3 to 4. Also it oxidized pretty badly and I started looking orange! I wear a mask at work, and I found that this foundation rubbed off easily onto the mask. I much prefer the MUFE face and body, lightweight, transfer resistant, doesnt oxidize and I actually had to blot less with that foundation than the mat velvet plus which is going back to sephora.
I dont understand the negative reviews, the name of the mascara is 24hr! if it came off that easily it would'nt be named this lol. As someone who uses exclusively waterproof mascara, I think this product is the best of both worlds. I use waterproof mascara because it holds a curl in my stick straight Asian lashes, that point straight down. This mascara holds a curl all day, its amazing and it comes off easier than an actual waterproof mascara IF you use a good waterproof eye makeup remover. I use the Lumene one, comes off like a charm. If the regular lash blast works for you, you dont need this one. This one if for those of us that have puny super straight lashes that dont hold a curl, if thats you and you always use waterproof mascaras, definitely try this one!!
This is my first NARS blush and I luv it so much! on my pale NC20 skin it is a perfect glowy apricot color that does not mesh with the rosacea that I have on my cheeks. Its a beautiful natural summer blush for pale skinned girls. It is pricey but totally worth it, as it has great color payoff (if you are pale) so I feel like it will last forever. If I ever finish it, I would 100% repurchase it.
I've been using the mia for about 4 months now...I almost returned it after month one though. This is not a miracle tool. It will not give you perfect skin unless you are genetically blessed to start with =) But...the reason I'm giving the mia a 4 is that it does do a lot of good things. If you wear foundation on a daily basis, as I do, this will make sure you remove it completely. I feel like it prevents a lot of the cosmetic acne that I had before because it really deep cleans your pores. It wont prevent all acne, but I feel like it speeds up the healing process when you do get breakouts. FYI If you have super sensitive skin, try the delicate rather than the sensitive brush that it comes with.
So I finally gave in to the hype and bought the 2 pack since I figured if I do like it, its cheaper in the long run. Its a great tool for high coverage/long wearing foundations. If you wear a lighter foundation I dont think you need this sponge, I've tried it with both maybelline superstay and fit me foundations. It worked really great with the superstay! Great coverage and did not look cakey at all. When I tried it with the fit me I felt that it soaked up a lot more of the product and gave similar results as a good foundation brush (like the sigmax brushes). So overall if you use heavier foundations I think the beautyblender is the way to go =) Oh fyi, its super annoying that such an expensive sponge bleeds pink dye! Hopefully the new beautyblender pure (white) will come in a 2 pack soon.
This is great for contouring fair skin! I'm NC20 for reference, and I have tried numerous drugstore bronzers looking for a natural looking contour product (NYC Sunny-a lil orangey, NYX Taupe Blush-too gray and can look dirty, ELF contouring blush and bronzer-good but not great). Hoola is finely milled, really pigmented and buildable. I use a small tapered brush (Sigma F35), I tap it once in the box and its a perfect amount for one side of my face. It is pretty expensive but I bought it as part of the Legally Bronze set since I wanted High Beam as well so I feel like it was worth it. I love it so much that I would definitely repurchase it I ever run out, which wont be for a very long time since you need so little every day.
Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous Million Lashes - waterproof
jc2729 9/8/2011 6:45:00 PM
This is a great waterproof mascara! I only use waterproof formulas because I have stick straight, short asian lashes that point straight down =( I had tried the regular million lashes when I had my lashes permed and loved it and have been waiting for l'oreal to come out with a waterproof version. This is the only mascara that holds my curl ALL day! Most other formulas are good for half a day and then my lashes slowly drift to half mast. This one coats ever tiny little lash without being clumpy because of the great brush and my lashes dont droop at all, even after a hot, humid 12 hour day, love!
Makeup Brushes -Sigma - F82 Round Top Synthetic Kabuki
jc2729 6/10/2011 11:56:00 AM
I love this brush! Before getting this brush (and the F80..ordered at the same time) I used a traditional foundation brush for my liquid foundation. It would take a long time to blend foundation onto my skin so it didnt look streaky. With this brush I dot my foundation onto my face and then blend with this brush...30 seconds later I'm done. Since the brush is so soft and dense my makeup is perfectly blended and smooth. I prefer the f82 over the f80 because I feel that it is easier to blend the nose and angles of my face. The brush is great quality, I've had no stray hairs and I wash this brush every other day (i alternate using the f80). It can take a long time to dry, but I've found that after washing and squeezing out excess water, if you kind of flick/shake the brush a few times it shortens the drying time significantly. Overall HG liquid foundation brush!
Moisturizers -Peter Thomas Roth - Glycolic Acid 10% Moisturizer
jc2729 5/22/2011 10:12:00 PM
I love this product. I have been using this for a few months now and it has greatly improved my skin tone. I have acne prone skin on my t-zone and I feel like this product has gradually faded hyper-pigmentation i have from previous breakouts, quickened healing time of active breakouts (from other products/time of the month), and made the areas I don't break out smoother and practically glowing! It is pretty pricey for such a small bottle but I love that it is a squeeze tube so its hygienic and I find a pea size amount is more than enough for my face. It does tingle a little when I first apply it but it has not irritated my sensitive skin and mild rosacea.
Pressed Powders -Kevyn Aucoin - The Celestial Powder: Candlelight
jc2729 5/16/2011 11:12:00 AM
I had been looking for a highlighter for a few weeks before I bought this product. I ruled out liquid highlighters since most of them had ingredients that would most likely break me out. I was originally going to buy Nars Albatross or Nico but when I tried them out in the store they looked chalky on my skin, and then out in the light they looked too sparkly. Candlelight is practically invisible (I'm nc20) unless you have light shining on you, and when you do it looks like a subtle sheen/glow. It is perfect for everyday wear! Since I get oily I use a lot of mattifying products but this keeps my face from looking too powdery and flat. Love it! The only bad thing is the price, so when I beauty.com was having a 20% off sale, i took it as a sign to splurge on this product =)
