Eyeliner -MAC - Kohl Power Eye liner in Sense of Style
jaynalisa 1/1/2010 4:01:00 PM
Before people start giving this product negative reviews for inappropriate reasons, please read this review! I have not purchased this particular Kohl Power pencil yet (I have seen it/swatched it though), and I have several others including Feline, Orpheus, Mystery, and have tried Raven. Feline is the ONLY one that works well on the waterline (even though it does smudge/smear it glides on smooth and is very pigmented/non-irritating)!!! The others are not meant for the waterline and do not work well there! In these pencils (except for feline), it's almost like there's a black kohl base mixed with a metallic pigment or finish of some sort and it's this add'l metallic component that makes it too difficult to stick to your waterline if that makes sense. Just my opinion from the four colored ones I've tried. The Kohl Powers do work wonderfully smudged out on the upper and lower lash lines and this is the best use for them I believe. Smudge out the line once, then go over it a little once more to get a little bit more of the metallic colored finish. Set with a little powder to help prevent smearing.
When I first swatched Sense of Style at my store I thought the color might be very close to Blooz eye kohl in the perm line so I compared SoS with Blooz and SoS is more of a "marine" blue (with just the a bit of green in it) whereas Blooz is a bit darker and more of a dark navy with no green whatsoever. Either of these liners will look gorgeous with the four shadows released in the Love Lace collection, especially Hypnotizing because of the contrasting colors. I think SoS will also look lovely with warm/golden brown shades and even to help tone down a bright blue or turquoise look when you want something other than the traditional black. Since I have Blooz I held off on buying SoS but I'm still debating if I should get it because I really do like the color and think it will look beautiful smudged on the upper and lower lashlines. If I did not own Blooz I would have bought SoS immediately.

Polishes -OPI - Merry Midnight
jaynalisa 11/19/2009 6:30:00 PM
I have to agree with others that this is a beautiful glitter nail polish. But not just regular glitter...this baby has big a$$ flakes of gorgeous red glitter that will actually show up on your nails as well as some small and medium size glitter as well! This is actually my first glitter nail polish I've owned since I was about 12 lol and I'm definitely buying more! I picked this up as part of a two pack set that comes with another polish from the collection - an eggplant purple creme polish called Sapphire in the Snow. The set also came with a cute faux silver cuff bracelet. Ok so onto the np...it's basically a medium to dark purple - it's definitely not too violet of a purple either, there's a lot of reddish undertones in there I think but it could be the reflection of the glitter. I agree with others that if you want the polish to look like it does in the bottle you definitely need 3 coats. What I also did while I was experimenting with this and the other color in the set was put one coat of the Sapphire purple color and layer 2 coats of Merry Midnight over it and OH MY GOD!!!!!! I've never seen anything so beautiful in my life! I had to write this review immediately! I think it look soooo much better than it does with just the glitter polish on its own. Now I understand why OPI has these holiday 2 pack sets - if you take a look at them, they all have a glitter polish paired with a similar toned creme polish that will go perfectly underneath the glitter polish. Oh why did I have to see this?? Cuz now I neeeed to go back and buy the sets with Holiday Glow/All A-Bordeaux The Sled and Shim-Merry Chic/Ginger Bells (even tho I should really be buying gifts for OTHER people...) P.S. This is MAC's Baby Goth Girl but so much better IMO...I bet layered over a black polish it will look stunning!

Polishes -OPI - done out in deco
jaynalisa 2/20/2009 5:59:00 PM
I picked this color up last weekend at Ulta because I have been obsessed with lavenders and greys lately. This is a beautiful pale lavender color with a touch of blue and grey. I have very short nails and felt that this color looked awesome! I've received several compliments this week! You may not think it's a very versatile color, but it actually goes with a lot of outfits and makeup - blacks, greys, greens, teals, blues, purples and pinks. Because it's a light color it's not as garish as you might think. Also, the formula of this polish is very good! I know a lot of people complained about the France collection about the formulas being too streaky but this was not the case at all with Done Out In Deco. Would repurchase in a heartbeat!

Lip Treatments -MAC - Hello Kitty -- Pink Fish Tinted Lip Conditioner
jaynalisa 2/12/2009 9:59:00 PM
Pink Fish is my hands down favorite from the hello kitty collection and one of my favorite pink lip colors of all time! I was not expecting to fall in love with a tinted lip conditioner but I did! The color is surprisingly pigmented, it's moisturizing, and it tastes so delicious! It gives a perfect light-medium pink tone to your lips. I've bought two backups and I know I will use up every last smidge! The packaging is very cute even if is in a pot which is less hygenic. If you love pink then buy this lippie!

Lipstick -MAC - Cute-ster [DISCONTINUED]
jaynalisa 2/12/2009 9:18:00 PM
I usually don't give negative reviews but I really was underwhelmed with this lippie. It looked like clear gloss with sparkle/shimmer I it... I couldn't even tell I had anything on! If I wanted that glossy look there are hundreds of better glosses to pick from. This was my least favorite from the hello kitty collection and I got one of almost everything! Cute-ster is going back to MAC! If you like clear shimmery lip colors than you may end up loving this...I was just expecting more of a peachy color.

Liquid -MAC - Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation
jaynalisa 2/7/2009 11:27:00 PM
I have to respectfully disagree with a reviewer below because this foundation actually worked wonders today on my normally oily/combo skin! Normally I'm an NW20 in studio fix powder and other MAC foundations, but I am an NW15 in this as they do seem to run a bit dark. I applied with my 187 after my normal morning routine, followed by mineralize skin finish natural to set it and it was flawless...for 14 hours and counting! Without a single touch up! Even my blush and Petticoat MSF I put over it this morning still look likes it was freshly done which has never happened! Overall I'm very pleased and will continue to use unless I find it really clogs my pores or something...but considering all the good ingredients in this product, I doubt that will happen. This seriously has been the best makeup day ever...first this and then when I went to Nordies to preview the hello kitty collection they just got in...they told me I could buy my items tonight! I almost died of shock/disbelief/happiness :) Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to eat this month... EDIT 2/21/09: I loved this foundation the first couple times of using it and then it just wasn't working for me and I couldn't figure out why. It was getting really oily and cakey after only a couple hours and it just looked nasty by the end of the day. Well I figured out why...you really only need to use just the littlest bit of this. I only need sheer/medium coverage, so just one sheer layer of this is perfect. If you need more heavy coverage, then still use a small amount, wait for it to dry and then add another layer. The results are seriously like night and day depending on how much product you use. Only a pea size amount was enough for my whole face with a 187 brush. I think some people may just be using too much because they're used to their other foundations...

Lipstick -MAC - Cremesheen Creme Cup
jaynalisa 2/6/2009 8:58:00 PM
This is my new favorite lippie! It's the perfect pale pink I've been looking for. It's a light pink, but not sheer. Color payoff and lasting power is quite good and to be expected from the cremesheen formula. This looks like that super sexy porn star pink on my NW20 face! I'd say the color is similar to Angel, but a shade lighter and a better formula. I also got the Partial to Pink cremesheen glass and it looks great with Creme Cup. Really brings out the pigmentation in the lipstick.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Grand Entrance [DISCONTINUED]
jaynalisa 1/30/2009 9:22:00 PM
If God were a woman and wore eyeshadow...she would be wearing Grand Entrance! (not because she needs makeup of course because she is God after all.) This is such a gorgeous champagne color...I always feel very glamorous but elegant when I wear this as a lid color and it makes an amazing highlight color for my brow bone and the inner corner of my eyes. It really brightens and wakes up my eyes when I put it on the inner corners. I loved it so much when I bought it online a few months ago that I ordered a backup. And then I went to CCO today because they got a big shipment in and I bought another one. For only $10! I'm such a sucker! But I can honestly say that I think I will use up all three pans..or at least that's what I tell myself ;) One more thing...I was just reading the reviews below and saw that the ingredients in the starflash shadows contain oils. And they do! Jojoba, soybean, and olive oils and also dimethicone! So that must be what makes the consistency of these shadows so heaven-sent! I now feel like I'm doing something good for my skin when I wear these! I do have to agree with someone below that because this color is so shimmery/flashy as a lid color, I find it's best to pair it with a more matte crease color (pretty much any shade looks great with this) so it doesn't look too over the top.

Highlighters -MAC - Cream Colour Base in Hush
jaynalisa 1/18/2009 9:42:00 PM
This is my secret weapon! I use it for so many things: as a base for my blush to make it last longer (use my 187 brush for this), a highlight at the top of my cheekbones and nose to give a dewy look (by dabbing/patting a little bit with my finger), a base for eyeshadow, and I will dab it in the middle of my lips and top of my cupid's bow after applying my lipstick to make my lips look fuller/poutier. I have had this for a few years and I am just finishing the pot!
When used as an e/s base, it helps to use a thin layer and try not to get it in your crease as it WILL make your eyeshadow crease. I generally use this on the lid only on top of an eye paint like Stilife or Bare Canvas or just pat a little right underneath my brows as a highlight. It really helps improve the vibrancy of some eyeshadows (especially the infamous lustres) or help glitters stick better.
EDIT: I also bought the cream colour base in Pearl a few months back which is very similar to Hush but more light gold toned whereas Hush is more of a light peachy nude. Pearl is also stunning!!! I use it in all the same ways!

Eyeliner -MAC - Phone Number eye kohl
jaynalisa 1/18/2009 9:04:00 PM
This was my very first eyeliner purchase way back when and was the only liner I used for years along with Teddy eye kohl. Phone Number was the perfect soft liner for my former inexperienced self yet it was dramatic enough to look really sexy. A great alternative if you're scared of or just don't like black eyeliner. It looks great with Electra and Silver Ring e/s and adds just the right amount of depth when used on the waterline. The eye kohls are not as long lasting as some other e/l formulas, but with this shade I find it's only an issue when used on my waterline which is a fast fix - I don't even need a mirror anymore. My taste and confidence have developed so I'm now more comfortable with using black and other colors, but Phone Number will always hold a big place in my heart. A definite staple for any makeup colllection, especially those newer to makeup.

Concealers -Bobbi Brown - Corrector
jaynalisa 1/18/2009 8:38:00 PM
Thank you MUA for leading me to this product! The review by Tenacious D below pretty much sums up everything I could say about this product even down to the shade choice. I definitely thought the light bisque looked too dark and pink for my NW15/20 skin, but it was perfect. I have a long thin face and I feel like my eyes are pretty set back or my eye sockets are just really big or something. Anyway, it has always created these shadows around my eyes and because my skin is so pale, the bluish color of my undereye veins would always peep through (of course I'm always more critical of myself than others are but who isn't?). This product has solved all of my prior issues! I now feel like a magazine photo where you can't tell the model's undereye area from the rest of her cheek/face. I don't even use the BB concealer on top of this but I think I will try it as this product alone (even set with powder) can fade/disappear halfway through the day. I will either reapply or go without when this happens. This is the only negative I have for this product (besides high price/low quantity) which is extremely forgivable IMO due to it's amazing results. Note: Regardless of what another reviewer below said, this is a med to full coverage product, so you probably only need this product if you have severe dark circles or other undereye issues. If you don't, you can probably get away with just using a sheer concealer or brightener or even foundation. If you use this product when you dont need it just for the sake of using it, you may not like the results.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Iconic High Definition Lash Curler Mascara
jaynalisa 1/18/2009 7:56:00 PM
HG!!! This mascara is the bomb diggity! I've used the original Diorshow mascara for years and used to think that was the greatest stuff on earth until I tried Iconic. My lashes never stayed curled with the orig Diorshow or with any other mascara but Iconic keeps them curled all day! And if that wasn't a good enough reason to love it, it also makes my lashes so so long and thick. I always feel like I'm wearing falsies after I put this stuff on! It is expensive at $27 bucks a pop, but so totally worth it, especially considering I've had mine for about three months and it hasn't even begun to get dry or yucky and it looks like there's still plent left in the tube. I will repurchase this for the rest of my life! I even put this on my best friend last night and it looked so good on her too that she now wants to buy it.

Eyeliner -MAC - Pearlglide in Rave
jaynalisa 1/18/2009 7:41:00 PM
Rave is my favorite Pearlglide liner with the exception of Wolf and in my top 5 favorite eyeliners period! It looks amazing with my greenish hazel eyes. I do not have a problem with it fading, smudging or getting glitter around my eyes after a few hours like some other people. I'd say Rave is a very true purple and unlike any other MAC liner. I love to wear this with Mauvement pigment or Illegal Cargo e/s (LE) on my lids and Mothbrown (LE) in the crease. I just wish MAC would make the Pearlglides permanent!

Lipstick -MAC - Blow Dry (Blonde Brunette Redhead)
jaynalisa 1/18/2009 7:28:00 PM
I cannot say enough good things about this lipstick! It's a beautiful sheer peachy pink color that instantly brightens up your face. I have no problems with it showing up on my NW20 skin, and i even have very pigmented lips. Even though it was in the "redhead" part of the collection, it looks great with brown hair. The color reminds me a little bit of Sandy B., but Sandy has less pink/more gold in it and it's very frosty. Better for summer wheras Blow Dry is subtle enough to wear year round. Although it's a lustre, I'd say the texture of this lippie is much better than some other lustres. I'm seriously considering a back-up!

Lip Gloss -MAC - Red Devil (Brunette, Blonde, Redhead Coll., Spring 2009)
jaynalisa 1/10/2009 9:57:00 PM
Red Devil is the coral gloss I've been looking for! It brightens up my face so much and I think it will do the same for a lot of different skin colors. Although it has "red" in the name, it's not a red gloss. Definitely more of a bright pinky coral. Looks great with the Redhead mineralize skinfinish from the same collection. Today I wore this with Subculture lip pencil and Sandy B. and it looked beautiful. I love how pigmented this lipglass is...you really do only need a little bit.
