Lotions/ Creams -Eucerin - Aquaphor Healing Ointment

HALLELUJAH!!!! I have struggled for years with extremely dry, chapped and peeling skin on my lips and nose in the winter. Also the skin on my cuticles and fingers would get so dry they would crack and bleed. Most moisturizers did nothing, or just made it worse, especially on my face. Ditto with lip balms, moisturizing oils, ointments. NOTHING worked, until I picked up a tube of Aquaphor on a whim. Immediately the dry chapped skin felt better, and then within a few days it was gone completely. I now use this as my daily lip treatment before I apply makeup, and at night I apply it before I go to bed to my nose and lips, and on my hands and elbows. Amazing stuff - if you're struggling with chapped, irritated skin, give this a try. A little goes a long way!

Crème -Cover Girl - Simply Ageless
rated 4 of 5
jawa 1/2/2013 12:59:00 PM

This is my go-to foundation in the winter, although I find it a little greasy in the hot humid summer months, so it is definitely NOT for people with oily or acne-prone skin. My skin is quite dry in the winter, and I love the coverage (medium-full) and finish (I would say semi-matte. I still lightly powder it). It's bed to apply this to recently cleansed and moisturized skin to make it easier to spread and blend, because it is a thicker texter than a liquid, if that is what you're used to. It doesn't settle in lines as long as you haven't caked it on too heavily and has good staying power.

Foundations -The Body Shop - Nature's Minerals Foundation
rated 1 of 5

I have tried several minerall foundations, and this one was awful. Poor coverage (and I do have experience building coverage with other minera foundations), shiny, not long lasting at all. Only positive thing that came out of blowing my money on this was discovering the Body Shop makeup brush line. GREAT kabuki brushes! I use the smaller kabuki (blush) brush for applying my other mineral foundation, and the results are beautiful :)

Powder -Maybelline - Mineral Power Powder Foundation
rated 4 of 5
jawa 12/28/2009 3:05:00 PM

I must say, this product was a pleasant surprise for me. I have used a few different mineral foundations (although not every one on the market by any means) and this is my favourite one by far. Coverage is buildable, but may take some practice - do not give up if the first time you use a mineral foundation you don't get good results. The key is a good quality kabuki brush, and patience - build coverage gradually and blend! Also make sure you use a finishing powder - just because this is a powder foundation doesn't mean you can skip the finishing powder. I use the Maybelline one. Anyways, I find I have very few breakouts when using this foundation (I tend to break out on my chin when I get my period. Otherwise my skin is normal-dry), and in fact I feel like when i do have a zit, using this foundation helps clear it up faster. There may be better mineral foundations on the market, but I haven't found them, certainly not at this price.

Treatments -Paula's Choice - Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant
rated 5 of 5
jawa 11/22/2005 9:29:00 AM

I'd been using Neutrogena Healthy Skin Face Lotion because I liked the idea of having a moisturizer/sunscreen/AHA product all in one, but my skin didn't like it at all - lots of redness, irritation and breakouts, possibly due to the sunscreen. So I decided to try this, and I'm happy I did. It disappears into your skin and doesn't cause excessive irritation. My skin was much smoother and glowing within 24 hours, and I also used it to get rid of the bumps on the back of my arms. If you have dry skin then definitely use your moisturizer afterwards (this is not a moisturizer), if you have oily skin then you might not need to apply anything after this.

Cleansers -Paula's Choice - Skin Balancing Oil-Reducing Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
jawa 11/22/2005 9:00:00 AM

I just got a sample of this with my order, and I will definitely be ordering more. My skin is very difficult to please - painfully dry and flaky on my cheeks, nose and forehead yet stubbornly oily and breakout prone on my chin and neck. My skin is also sensitive, which makes it even more difficult. Usually I struggle to keep everything balanced, but it always seems that cleansers either over-dry my dry areas or cause more breakouts on the oily areas. This one seemed to get it just right. Not overly foamy (soapy cleansers make my face sting) but not too lotion-y either. My face felt smooth and comfortable after I used it. Great product!!

Fragrances -Avon - Soft Musk
rated 2 of 5
jawa 11/15/2005 9:53:00 AM

My mother recently got a free bottle of Soft Musk. I remember wearing it in highschool when I didn't know any better, but smelling this now I think it has that "Avon perfume" smell that most Avon perfumes seem to have. Not offensive, but kind of cheap and nothing special at all.

Fragrances -Dolce & Gabbana - Light Blue
rated 5 of 5
jawa 11/11/2005 11:43:00 AM

Reading the reviews here is really interesting, I guess this is a love or hate fragrance. I never noticed the cedar scent that people are talking about, but I'm going to go sniff again! To me it smells very strongly of apple, to the point that I worried that it was maybe too distinctly apple-y. Second thing I notice is Lily of the Valley, which normally I don't like, but here it works. Anyways, I love it but I don't find it very strong nor very long-lasting.

Eye Shadow -The Body Shop - Shimmer Cubes
rated 2 of 5
jawa 2/26/2005 12:20:00 AM

I hate to be the only negative voice here, but I was somewhat disappointed with this product. I have #8 (haven't tried the other palettes, to be fair), and the colours in the package were perfect, but these just go on too sheer. The pink and peach work for a highlighter or all-over shimmer, but the white is pretty useless and the grey is nice but you really have to build it alot to get the colour in the cube. I disagree with a few reviewers who have said these are super-pigmented. No, they're not. When you have to rub it on with your finger and build up the shadow just to get some colour, and you have more shimmer than colour, they are NOT super pigmented. If you want something with a lot of pigment, try the MAC pigments or the MUFE star powders, those babies are pigmented. All that being said though, these are nice for shimmer and for subtle (but shimmery) eye looks, but if you really want strong colours with staying power, I would try something else. p.s. If you look at my 1/29 FOTD photo you can see the results when I TRIED to use this palette. The result LOOKS like the colours that are in this palette, but in reality I had to use other colours just to get that look. I did use the grey as a lighter colour on my inner lid, but had to use another brand to get the true dark grey I wanted. Since the pink and the white didn't show up much, I had to use similar colours in other brands just to get the effect I THOUGHT this palette would have.

Eye Shadow -Make Up For Ever - Star Powder
rated 5 of 5
jawa 2/25/2005 11:55:00 PM

I can't say enough good things about this powder. I bought #927, which is a really lovely two-toned colour of mauve and bronze/copper. So lovely. Everything the other reviewers are saying is true - it applies beautifully wet, stays on a long time, has very intense colour, etc. I don't think I can go back to cake e/s after this, I've got to get more of these. BTW, in regards to the container/application getting messy, this is what was recommended to me by the salesperson, and it has worked for me: After you take of the top lid there is an inner tray/seive thing with 3-4 holes in it. This has a clear sticker covering it when you purchase it, which you would probably remove. DON'T remove the sticker. Just use a pin or a pen or something and punch a hole through ONE of the holes. When you want to use the powder, put the lid on and give it a gentle shake. This will let just a little powder through and you don't end up with a mess. HTH

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
rated 5 of 5
jawa 1/30/2005 2:21:00 PM

I finally tried this mask and I have to say it is amazing. I have used other products with BHA (salicylic acid) in them to some success, but the results were never like this. For those of you mixing it with just water, I would suggest using something more goopy to keep it damp (I heard that the aspirin isn't active after it dries). I crush 4 asprin and mix them with either a yogurt pack or aloe vera gel, and spray it with water periodically if it seems to be drying out too quickly. I leave it on for about 15-20 minutes, and the results are incredible. My pores are noticeably smaller, my blackheads are almost gone and my skin is SO smooth.

Fragrances -Fresh - Lemon Sugar
rated 5 of 5
jawa 12/21/2004 12:01:00 AM

No no no! I have to do something to counteract all these "Pledge" reviews. This is a lovely fruity scent, I'm so happy I got it. I can see how it would not be to everyone's liking, it is a little unusual. When I smelled it in the store I first thought "gingerale", and my friend said "mmmm, gingerbeer" (she's from South Africa). So, it's not a screaming lemon fragrance! After I read some of the reviews comparing it to "Clean" I realized that was true, it does remind me of Clean a bit. It dries down quite soft and loses a bit of the lemon fragrance. All in all if you like sweet citrusy fragrances, then definitley give Lemon Sugar a try. If you prefer more traditional florals or spicy perfumes you will probably not like this. To each her own!

Lip Treatments -Paula's Choice - Lip and Body Treatment Balm
rated 5 of 5
jawa 12/16/2004 10:26:00 AM

AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! This lipbalm is the most moisturizing lipbalm I've ever used. I also thinks it makes my lips look fuller, maybe just because they're in good condition. One day I couldn't find this, so for a few days I switched to using a vaseline lip balm and my lips got so dry - I needed to reapply it every few hours. Luckily I found this under my bed and went back to just putting it on in the morning and before bed at night and everything was fine. Great product, and you get a lot!

Moisturizers -Biotherm - Aquasource Non Stop (combination skin)
rated 4 of 5
jawa 11/24/2004 12:22:00 PM

I'm loving this moisturizer, although I took off one lippie because of the scent. It's not a bad scent, I just don't like wearing scented things on my face and I think it's totally unnecessary. Having said that, it hasn't irritated my skin, so I'm still overall very impressed. It's a nice and light moisturizer that leaves my skin feeling soft and comfortable but not oily, and not sticky like many lighter moisturizers do. My skin really runs the gamut from oily to dry to normal, and this is great, (although at night I sometimes dab a heavier nightcream just on dry patches). This is for combo skin, but IMHO it should be marked more specifically as normal-oily, as I think that's who it would work best for. I don't think people with drier skin would feel it was moisturizing enough. Anyways, anyone else should give it a try, it's great!

Fragrances -Comptoir Sud Pacifique - Coeur de Vahine
rated 4 of 5
jawa 11/21/2004 3:14:00 AM

This is the first CSP fragrance I have smelled, so I can't compare it to the others, but I really like this perfume. It's different from what I usually like (I usually like fresh citrusy scents) but this was unique and I liked it. To me the vanilla is not overpowering. Even though I usually avoid vanilla scents cuz I find them boring and cloying, this is a little different, more interesting. On Sephora this scent is actually listed as an "Oriental Floral" despite having fruitiness and vanilla in it. I think that shows that it has more depth and sophistication than a typical sweet scent. I have a sample from Sephora and I'm waiting for my full-sized bottle to arrive.
