I have reviewed the Luxe version of this, so pretty much the same thing goes for the original. It lengthens, volumizes, doesn't smudge or smear or clump. And it's pretty cheap! I can see how some people would be turned off by the bulkiness of the brush, but I like it. For something like that I think it comes down to personal taste.
Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Modelle Collagen Lip Treatment

This has worked for me. It isn't the type of lip plumper that uses menthol or some other irritant to temporary swell your lips, but it actually stimulates collagen synthesis so that over time your lips look fuller. I've been using this for a couple of months and have put off writing a review because I just couldn't make up my mind as to whether this was worth paying another 30$ CAD. When I first started using it I was astounded by the results. I could actually FEEL a difference in my lip volume when I pressed them together. As time went by and I started coming to the end of my tube I started wondering if it was really doing anything. Was my original enthusiasm psychological? Or was I now just so used to my new plumper lips that I had forgotten how much improvement there had been? To find out, I stopped using it to see what would happen. After about a week I looked in the mirror and remembered why I bought this in the first place. Lips deflated! I started using it again and bought another tube and my lip volume has been restored. For 30$ CAD I almost wish it didn't work, because now I need it in perpetual supply!
Eye Makeup Remover -Avon - Moisture effective Eye makeup remover
janemarple 7/9/2009 6:05:00 PM
Not only is this great at taking off makeup (can't vouch for waterproof), but this makes the skin under my eyes so smooth and soft. I have always hated taking off my eye make up at the end of the day, but now in a strange way I look forward to it. The creamy consistency may cause a bit of blurry eye if it gets in, but other than that this is a great remover and one that I will stick with for a while. Next time Avon has this for 99 cents I am going to buy ten bottles!
I love this blush. I have fair skin so it can be hard to find a balance between the pasty (no blush) and clown (too dark/heavy blush) looks. This colour is perfect for giving a healthy glow to the cheeks without necessarily looking made up. I have been wearing it daily. As with all EDM products this is really gentle on my skin and does not break me out.
Top/Base Coats -Sally Hansen - Diamond Strength Diamond Shine Top and Base Coat
janemarple 6/30/2009 11:11:00 PM
Worn alone it makes nails nice and shiny. As a base coat it is mediocre, at best. As a top coat it truly sucks the bag. According to packaging: "Breakthrough liquid diamond treatment is a quick-drying chip preventer that extends the wear of ANY nail color for up to 10 days". Whoever decided to make this claim had a very snarky sense of humour. Even 10 minutes is a stretch. And quick drying? I guess time is relative, but put aside an hour of hands free activity if you use this "quick drying" top coat. Bottom line: If you like peeling your nail polish off in huge sheets, then use this as a top coat. If you like your nail polish to last more than a couple of days, buy something else. I personally have ordered Seche Vite's top and base coats. Hopefully the good reviews for that are as accurate as the terrible reviews for this.
Concealers -Everyday Minerals - Intensive Fair concealer [DISCONTINUED]
janemarple 6/24/2009 9:37:00 PM
I just love Everyday Minerals (wistful sigh). This concealer is like a little eraser for skin flaws/discolourations. It does what many other concealers don't do: it conceals! Another nice thing about having a loose powder as a concealer is the hygenic factor. It has always bugged me when using a tube of cream concealer with a dipping wand. You dip the wand in the concealer, smear it on your most problematic of areas and then store this bacteria swab for use on your face next time. This problem is eliminated with the powder. The full sized concealer is the same size as the full size foundation. This will last me years.
Eye Makeup Remover -Rimmel - Gentle Eye Make Up Remover
janemarple 6/24/2009 9:30:00 PM
I don't wear waterproof make up so I cannot attest to whether or not it delivers on that front, but it takes my washable eye make up off nicely. My only issue is that sometimes if I use too much it stings a bit. Not oily at all. Nice and cheap.
Treatments (Eye) -Kiss My Face - Eye Witness Eye Cream
janemarple 6/22/2009 10:04:00 PM
At first I was not all that enchanted with this because it just didn't seem to do anything. However, I gave it another shot in conjuntion with another eye cream (reversa, glycolic acid 4%). The combination of these two creams makes one great eye cream. What KMF eye cream is lacking is spf, and that is of mega-importance to me in an eye cream. I get the spf from Reversa, and from KMF I get hyaluronic acid and some other hydrating ingredients. So I essentially use it for hydration, which helps some of the lines that form when my eyes are too dry. I personally did not notice a smell at all, but the packaging is different from what is pictured. Maybe they reformulated it?
This worked for me for a couple of years but then seemed to quit on me. I am now on the acne.org regimen and that has since cleared me up again. It may be that my skin started to become irritated by the face wash (mildly abrasive with salicylic acid) or perhaps using the benzoyl peroxide (night) treatment only once a day wasn't enough anymore. This seemed to disappear off of the shelves in Canada so I was ordering it from Dermadoctor for 28.00 (I see that it is now ~24$). This means that each component was ~10$, which seems like a bit much in retrospect. The face wash is salicylic acid, the moisturizer is spf 15 containing a "botanical complex" and the night treatment was 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. What used to frustrate me was that I would always run out of the night treatment before the other two components so I'd have to buy the whole set just to get it. This is really silly considering that I could have bought a big old tube of Panoxyl for a third of the price (which is my main acne fighting hero now). Also the moisturizer was kind of runny. In the end, this worked for a while but I honestly believe you can put your own kit together with the same ingredients for a better price.
The first time I saw the commercial for this my boyfriend and I laughed and cringed. When we saw it in the store we had to buy it. So worth it. You don't have to scrub like crazy to get it to work, and it's gentle. Between this and my peppermint lotion my feet are soft and smooth despite my being very callus prone. The only issue is that it is not easy to remove the blade in order to dump out the lovely collection of dead skin. Not that big a deal. Give it a try, you might be surprised as to how much you love it.
Lotions/ Creams -Nivea - My Silhouette Redefining Gel-Cream
janemarple 6/17/2009 11:33:00 PM
I've been using this for about three weeks and I have to say that I have noticed a difference. First of all, the scent is lovely but slightly on the strong side. You could use this as a perfume if you so desired. It's the white tea, I believe. It is a gel consistency, making it fairly easy to apply. After a couple of days I did notice a certain smoothness in my thighs (where I focus my efforts). I work out but there is a certain "laziness" in the muscle tone around the side of my upper thighs. Today I took an inspection and definitely noticed that this area looked a lot firmer. It isn't going to reduce any dress sizes, but I really believe it has improved the tone of my skin and I will repurchase (I have already, in fact). Update: Definitely sticking with this, there is a marked improvement to the tone of my thighs. Skin very smooth too!
This is my first experience with a nude lip colour, and when I first put it on I thought it made me look really washed out (I am quite pale). It didn't seem to apply evenly either. Once I spread it around a bit with a lip brush (Q-tip works too) I thought it looked wonderful. So I will be hanging onto this!
Eyes -Unlisted Brand - Swiss O' Par brow and lash tint kit
janemarple 6/17/2009 10:13:00 PM
A bout of acne and overzealous application of BP left my eyebrows somewhat on the lighter side. It was really starting to annoy me so I decided to do something about it. I ordered this off of ebay in brown (I have dark blond hair) because I wanted to ensure I used something that was safe to use around the eye area. I am very happy with the results. Looks really natural. The way it works is as follows: 1. apply the liquid provided (which is clear) to the eyebrows/lashes so they are very moistened, leave for ~ 1 min 2. using the comb (for brows), apply the gel (which is clear when coming out of the tube) -- this is where the surprise came for me. When the gel contacts the liquid, it turns brown/black. It needs to be rinsed immediately. I may try doing my lashes soon too. It comes with a mascara wand for that purpose. Lasts for six weeks, according to the box. We'll see! Update: did my lashes. It's so painless and fast with such good results. I'm hooked.
Eye Primer -E.L.F. - Studio Line Eye Primer Liner Sealer
janemarple 6/17/2009 10:04:00 PM
This little duo is so awesome. I have only used the primer once and it was great. But what I love it for is the liner sealer. You can basically turn any eye shadow into a liquid eye liner with the clear gloss/brush, and the "liner" stays all day. Doesn't smudge nor budge. Perfect!
Polishes -New York Color - In a New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish
janemarple 6/17/2009 10:00:00 PM
I bought a bunch of these in a two for one sale and I might go back and get more. So far I have only worn Wall Street and it is so pretty! I probably could get away with one coat but I always put two on for good measure. As someone mentioned it does dry with little bubbles and by all rights I should take off a lippie for that. However, it doesn't concern me all that much and is only noticable on close inspection. No one but me looks at my nails that closely, and I just love the colours and the cheapness of these polishes so much that I have to give it a perfect score! Love them!
