Treatments -Alberto Vo5 - Hot Oil Shower Works
jamiekmeyer 3/12/2007 3:45:00 PM
I hated this stuff. The BEST oil treatment for you hair is plain, warmed, Olive oil. Vo5 hot oil has too much stuff in it. Anyway, put the olive oil in the microwave for 30 seconds (or until warm) and apply it to DRY hair. Wrap your hair in plastic first, followed by a warm towel. I leave it in for 20 min. Shampoo it out (no conditioner) once or twice, and blow dry. It feels like dandelion fluff and I've been doing it for two years now. No split ends or breakage!

Bronzers -NARS - Orgasm-Laguna Blush-Bronzer Duo
jamiekmeyer 12/10/2006 1:58:00 PM
I have olive/tan skin with yellow undertones, so Laguna doesn't show up on me as much as I'd like but layering helps. Its a really pretty bronzer. Its a simple light brown with a little shimmer. NO orange/copper tones. I was afriad that Orgasm would not show up on me. When I looked at the compact I was scared of how much shimmer there was in it. I tried it anyway and it was so beautiful. It looks like a natural flush and makes your skin glow. Its almost TOO good looking. Super natural. Definately different looking on the face. Then I did a photograph test. I thought my cameras flash would reflect on my face (because of the shimmer) but it didn't! Laguna and Orgasm actually blurred all my imperfections! (I have some scars so I was shocked to review the picture and see perfect skin!) It was the only product I've ever used that was light diffusing (and it doesnt even claim to be!) so this was a lovely surprise. This is a great product. I might get full sized Laguna/Orgasms, because I'm using it up so quickly. I love it. It stays on all day, looks and photographs beautifully.

Mascara -Maybelline - volum express washable mascara curved brush
jamiekmeyer 11/28/2006 10:54:00 PM
I LOVE this. I was disapointed when Target didn't have the normal kind with the straight brush but I bought this anyway on a whim. I use it on top of Almay's One-Coat Lengthening and WOW. It seriously looks like I have fake lashes on. I love the combination of the two. On its own, Volume Express is a great mascara for a thicker but still natural look. No clumps! :)

Mascara -Almay - One Coat Mascara (lengthening)
jamiekmeyer 11/28/2006 10:49:00 PM
This stuff is great when under a voluming masacara. On its own, it lengthens AND thickens and the brush is great. I can't imagine this stuff clumping. I use it under Maybelline's Volume Express (Regular, NOT Turbo-Boost) to make my eye lashes look like falsies. Great stuff.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Volume Shocking Mascara [DISCONTINUED]
jamiekmeyer 11/5/2006 2:48:00 PM
I would have hated this mascara if I hadn't read the reviews/how to apply it first. Despite the 33% rating I ran out and bought it last week with a metal eye lash comb.
This definately is NOT a product to play fast-and-loose with. You MUST apply it slowly, with a light hand... don't dig into your lashes like you would with a brush mascara.
Here's how I apply it, it takes some time.
1. Apply the primer like you would your normal mascara. (I apply two coats because I like my eyelashes really thick). Comb thru with your lash comb before it dries!
2. Then take the topcoat and wipe off the excess with a tissue. Lightly(!!) comb thru your lashes until they are coated. Comb thru, add another coat before it dries if you want. Comb again, etc. Its buildable and if you comb thru after application and use a LIGHT HAND, I promise, you won't get any clumps.
I know its a pain, but this mascara made my short lashes look AMAZING, full and long. I've never seen them look like this before. They look like falsies, and I get lots of compliments! When I don't have time to put this on, I like Clinique's High Impact Mascara.
EDIT: This masacara just has too high of a chance of looking like HELL, and its such a pain. I get false-eyelash results now by layering Maybelline Volume Express (just the regular kind, not Turbo-Boost) over Almay One-Coat Lengthening. Its my HG combination. I read about how to do it on about.com.

Mascara -Physicians Formula - F L A T Fabulously Long And Thick
jamiekmeyer 11/1/2006 10:02:00 PM
Horrilble applicator, chemical smell, stings my NON-sensitive eyes, flakes, dries roughly/jagged/clumpy, and it makes my eyes swell. My lashes didnt turn out okay, or even acceptable. This stuff is really, really , bad. Physicians Formula is cheaply made, over-priced GARBAGE.

Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Moisture Sensitive Skin
jamiekmeyer 9/1/2006 8:19:00 PM
I dont understand the bad reviews. I like this moisturizer because it makes my dry skin really soft. Its not really MOIST, just tolerable and smooth, and I like that. (Im on kind of a harsh acne regimen right now so being able to talk/move my face without my face tightening up is a bonus) I guess it depends on your preferences though.
Overall this is very light, absorbs quickly and I like it because its as if I didnt put any moisturizer on (I hate "feeling" moisturizer on my skin after I've rubbed it in), and it gets rid of flakes.

Treatments -Clean & Clear - Persagel 10
jamiekmeyer 9/1/2006 2:40:00 AM
AMAZING. 2.5% Benzoyl peroxides just werent cutting it for me. Neither were my perscriptions. I've tried: menocyclin, tazorac cream, retin A, and proactive. None of them worked in the long run. My skin just seemed to shed, but I still suffered from HORRIBLE cystic acne and CONSTANT annoying whiteheads. I dont think I had gone a day without a pimple on my face. I read the excellent reviews for Persagel 10 on makeupalley and acne.org and I decided to run out and buy a tube. The first night I tried it I noticed that my skin tone had GREATLY improved and that my blemishes were not red anymore. By the time I woke up most of my blemishes had flattened and in 3 days, my skin, which hasnt been clear since I was 12... was completely clear. :) The scars left from my cystic acne are almost gone, and I've only been using the product for 1 month. (Which is kind of bittersweet considering I've spent 100's on glycolic peels). I really wish I had known about this product when I was in high school.
Some tips though. If you are sensitive to the medication, use it sparingly, once in 24 hours (nighttime is best because yes, it IS drying. That is the point). You only need a thin layer of this. And also (since 10% BP is a very high concentration) do not use other products with acne medications in them, for example: salicylic acid face wash/lotion. It will irritate your skin. Cetaphil gentle face wash and oil free moisturizer work great. They are both really gentle. If your skin is near-perfect, this product probably isnt for you, unless you use it to spot treat.
The routine that worked for me is in the morning, I use cetaphil wash and oil free moisturizer (w/ SPF 15) and at night time I I use the cetaphil wash again, but replace the mmoisturizer with the Persagel-10.

Treatments -AcneFree - Acne and Blackhead Terminator
jamiekmeyer 8/16/2006 9:42:00 PM
This product for me worked better than my old prescriptions, and proactive, and the Acne free 3-step system. Its a clear gel, absorbs fast, and has relatively low doses of benzoyl peroxide (1%) and salicylic acid (1.5%). This is the first product I've seen with the two medicines combined. I havent gotten a cyst since I started using it, and it seemed to even out my skin tone. Its drying at first, but if your face feels tight just move it around, it doesnt flake and you can use it under make up. Now I just use Neutrogena acne wash, the clear pore cleanser mask (once a week) and the acne free terminator gel. This is really the first time since I was 12 that I've had perfectly clear skin. :)

Misc Beauty Tools -Shu Uemura - Eyelash Curler
jamiekmeyer 7/31/2006 9:56:00 PM
Im Indonesian/German with sort of roundish-almond shaped eyes and this curler fits them perfectly. I've tried Covergirl and Revlon curlers before and I found them to be too round/ not wide enough and only curl the lashes in the center of my eyelid. To me, this was definately worth the money, it grabs every lash and fits my eye shape. And thats really what it boils down to, it depends on your eyes.

Mascara -Maybelline - Lash Stylist Waterproof ] [DISCONTINUED]
jamiekmeyer 6/26/2006 7:13:00 PM
GROSS! I hated this stuff/ I liked the way it looked in the commericials (Where of course, the model is wearing false eyelashes) so I picked it up because I thought it would give my lashes a different look. I tried it and its so clumpy and thick and wet at the same time! It dries HARD and not only did it flake, but it took FOREVER to come off, even with an oil based makeup remover. For me this made my lashes look hard, thick, spiky, and oddly sticky. I HATED it. I highly suggest wearing it for a day and trying to remove it bebofre making a purchase. What a waste.

Liquid -Cover Girl - Outlast All Day Liquid Make-up (foundation+primer) [DISCONTINUED]
jamiekmeyer 6/3/2006 4:48:00 PM
I hated this. It felt greasy on and all the reviews about how it caused cysts really frightend me. I will say, the sunscreen base and the packaging is great, but other than that this makeup felt oily on, didnt give me the coverage I wanted, and rubbed off! ON EVERYTHING! Felts super slick by the end of the day. Will not repurchase.

Lip Gloss -Neutrogena - MoistureShine Lip Soother Cooling Hydragel SPF20
jamiekmeyer 5/3/2006 2:46:00 PM
I have this is #40 Glam or Gleam, or something like that. Anyway is a light watermelon color, but goes on pretty much clear. SPF on your lips is so important because lips dont produce melanin to protect them from sunbrun. Usually gloss magnifies the suns rays (if you wear it as the beach, for example) so its a no-no in hot weather. But this gloss is cooling, not stick at all, didnt leave me with any flakes! It just feels good on and makes my lips soft by the time it wears. I love it! Next time I think I will try a more orange or darker shade. Im looking for a shade that makes my mouth look like I just ate a cherry popsicle.

Liquid -Neutrogena - Skin Clearing Oil-Free Makeup
jamiekmeyer 5/3/2006 2:24:00 PM
Now, I know this foundation probably cant clear your skin (especially if you get cystic or severe acne) but I love that fact that it doesnt break me out. I picked up this foundation a month ago. I wear shade 80. In the store it looked to dark, when I tested it on my face it looked to light, but after I let the foundation set for 5 min, it turned out to be the perfect match for me. Later in the summer I may get a shade or two darker.
Pros:
The foundation has a good range of neutral/yellow/olive shades, which are nice for my asian skin.
They also have a nice range of shades with red/warm undertones.
Medium Buildable Coverage. Covers up red tones nicely.
Has a nice finish that is matte and gets dewy over the course of a day.
Great staying power.
Its thin, so I didnt notice it on during the day and it doesnt look cakey.
Cons:
Its expensive for a drugstore brand.
Depending on where you go there is limited color selection for darker skin tones. Also, Im pretty tan myself and I could see it looking ashy on very dark skin. (Nordstrom Rack has the full selection of shades).
You'll need a separate concealer if you have a few battle scars you want to cover completely.
Overall:
I gave it 4 stars but knocked off 1 star for the expensive price, and the fact that you may need a separate concealer. I will definately repaurchase though, this is a great product. You just need to find the right shade. I apply mine with a sponge and its perfect!

Tinted Moisturizer -Wet 'n' Wild - Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer--Sunkissed
jamiekmeyer 4/29/2006 7:19:00 PM
I cant believe how good this product is! I thought it would be a second rate product and would irritate my skin. But its wonderful! Its not greasy, has SPF, adjusts to my skin tone, and covers better than any tinted moisturizer I've tried. Now I can go to the beach and not have to worry about my post ance marks on my face. I still wear and SPF underneath it though. I adore this stuff.
