BB Cream -Garnier - BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector - Light/Medium
jacie07 3/27/2012 1:37:00 PM
I received a free tube of this product in exchange for providing my honest opinion of it. This review is part of that campaign.
As a beauty product junkie, I knew all about BBCreams but had yet to try one because I live in an out of the way area without much access, so I was thrilled to have this offer. I appreciate the sanitary tube and generous size of it but this is not much more than any other tinted moisturizer. I was expecting a silicone heavy product which would blur pores and fine lines, something like Philosophy's supernatural. This has a slight luminizing effect which does make my 58 year old skin look pretty damn good but certainly doesn't 'perfect' it or make it look photoshopped as in the advertisements. We are all too sophisticated to fall for that anyway, right? There is a fresh/floral fragrance which I like but may cause you to think twice if your skin is sensitive. My two biggest complaints and the reason why I will not purchase this is 1. that I don't believe the SPF 15 provided is adequate for anything other than incidental exposure to a cloudy Seattle day and 2. There is absolutely no long wear to this product. At least on my partly oily complexion, it has totally disappeared with a couple of hours, even after setting with powder ( Palladio's rice powder) . The shade I received is light/medium which is sheer enough and neutral enough for most Caucasian skin tones. A medium/dark version is also available. This product sells for about $11.99 at local drug stores but Garnier has frequent discounts.

Foundations -Tarte - Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full-Coverage Foundation SPF 15
jacie07 2/3/2012 12:52:00 PM
I quite like this cream formula foundation. I've never seen the sales pitch on QVC, so not sure what 'miraculous' powers clay from the Amazon adds to a foundation( and wouldn't buy into it if I had. )I bought this solely based on reviews here on MUA. I've applied this foundation with a taklon brush, and with a sponge but prefer using my fingers since I find I can better control how much coverage I get by doing so. Tap or pat this on for fuller coverage, spread and blend for sheer. I appreciate any MU with SPF but I always wear sunscreen underneath since to get the protection one needs, you would have to use way to much foundation. This has a rather dewy finish so I set with a little powder on my oily areas to reduce shine. This foundation does last on me all day and the light-medium shade works well on my easy to match, very neutral complexion. As much as I am enjoying this foundation, I will probably not buy it again since I think that Revlon's Colorstay Mineral Mousse foundation compares quite favorably to this for about 1/4 the price. Editing to add: Since I wrote this review, I decided yo compare this foundation to Revlon's Colorstay Mousse, both in light-medium shade. The Tarte is a teeny bit creamier and a little dewier finish but I really couldn't see much of any difference once set on my face. I'll stick with the Revlon and save 30$.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Walgreen's- Therapeutic Skin Repair Lotion
jacie07 1/21/2012 12:46:00 PM
Using alpha hydroxy lotion on my face has done wonders for my 59 year old skin so I went looking for an inexpensive, readily available lotion with AHA I could slather all over my body. This is not it. First of all, when I got home I discovered the pump does not unscrew to open properly so the only way to get this stuff out is to take the top off and grab a handful off the long tube thing inside. And this stuff is comparable to Elmer's glue, thick, white and very sticky. Almost impossible to smooth on your skin. Once on it takes forever to sink in and leaves your skin sticky and shiny. Uggh! With my new mindset of using products up before replacing them, I will do my best to use this stuff up but it will be hard because I can only apply it on days when I have plenty of time before getting dressed, which is hardly ever. For now I am mixing it with cheap and thin lotions I've picked up on hotel stays and applying on nights when I don't need to get into my jammies quickly. Will not buy this again and will keep looking for something to replace it!

Tinted Moisturizer -E.L.F. - Studio Tinted Moisturizer
SPF 20
jacie07 12/11/2011 1:27:00 PM
I needed to add a small item to my Dugstore.com order to get free shipping so I threw this in on a whim. There were only 3 colors offered and I chose beige. At first look, it seemed way to dark for my light to medium skin, but it is sheer enough that the color was no problem. There have been reports this turns orange. For me, it just gives my winter pallor a little bit of a summery look-like I have a bronzer on. I like the finish and use a finishing powder on the nose and forhead. If you have dry skin, this may not be moisturizing enough, but I am enjoying this quite a bit. Will repurchase.

Brows -E.L.F. - Eyebrow Kit
jacie07 8/26/2011 1:44:00 PM
My local Target finally started carrying some ELF products so I loaded up on quite a few. This is a cool little brow kit-a wax and setting powder for filling in the brows. I would rebuy this in a heartbeat if only it wasn't way too dark for my light/medium brown brows. The only shade available at the store was medium and I can't even imagine how dark the dark shade must be. If I place an order online, I will try out the lighter shade available. I'm giving it a 5 though, just not the right shade for me.

Fragrances -The Body Shop - White Musk Perfume Oil

I've loved this scent for decades now. Lately I've enjoyed using this as a layer under my soapy type fragrances. I find it gives any scent added lasting time and a softer, warmer dry down. There's a reason this one has been around so long!

Fragrances -Lancome - O de l'orangerie
jacie07 5/9/2011 12:23:00 PM
I am no fragrance expert, so am not able to tell you what the top notes and base notes and so on with this new fragrance I bought in Paris for 55 euros/2.5 fl ounce.Cheaper on eBay but I have gotten taken on that in the past so I no longer but fragrances that way. All I can say is that to me this smells like the flowers of an orange grove, not citrus-y, but a heavenly floral. Some honeysuckle too. I am in love. This will be my favorite fragrance this summer. ETA: I've fallen out love quite quickly with this as soon as I realized it has zero, ZERO, staying power on me. I still like the fragrance but will use it quickly and not re-buy.

Mascara -FairyDrops - FAIRYDROPS Mascara
jacie07 2/12/2011 3:07:00 PM
I bought this on a whim when placing my last Sephoa order and didn't read the reviews first or I would have known this mascara wasn't for me. My lashes are long thanks to revitalash and careprost but this mascara gave me tons of volume. In fact, that's one of the things I don't like about it. One coat and I am entering into Katy Perry territory. Since I prefer a more natural look, I won't be rebuying this. As mentioned by other reviewers, its also really hard to remove and I end up losing lashes because of it. The wand is really unusual and I am attaching a picture which is a little blurry but hopefully you can tell.

Lipstick -Rimmel - Lasting Finish - Just So
jacie07 10/30/2010 3:54:00 PM
A big thank you to all my MUA sisters who took the time to review the Rimmel LastingFinish lippies. I had never tried any Rimmel products but based on the reviews I decided I needed to have one of these. I ended up choosing Just-so, a MLBB pink, and will try other shades soon. This LS is not the most moisturizing LS I have but I guess that's part of why it lasts so long and doesn't wear off in patches like other long-wear LSs I've tried. It lasts a good 3-4 hours on me and through a whole Zumba class. Just-So is an easy shade for fair skinned or ruddy caucasians to wear, maybe not so good for asians though.

Foundations -Revlon - ColorStay Mineral Mousse Makeup
jacie07 8/6/2010 11:39:00 AM
This is my go-to foundation this summer when my oily-combo skin becomes more oily. It has the 2 things I didn't like about Maybelline DReam Mousse: comes in a tube not a jar and has spf 30.That said its not for those with dry skin. This is sheer enough that I can wear a darker shade than usual for a sunny look. Love this one!!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast Fusion
jacie07 7/10/2010 8:23:00 PM
I was excited to receive this product to test free from CG. I like the purple tube which doesn't get lost in my MU drawer but prefer a smaller brush. This fat one makes it hard for me to get the tiny corner eyelashes. Overall, this mascara does give my lashes both length and volume but in half a day, I was wiping flakes off from my undereyes. Maybe its due to the eye cream I wear??

Bath Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Village Naturals bath shoppe foaming milk bath
jacie07 6/6/2010 9:04:00 PM
I can't believe I haven't written a review for what is one of my favorite and most used products! My journey to become a bubble bath connoisseur began a long, long time ago when I was a frenzied young mom of 3 preschool boys. My DH grew up as the only boy in a family with 4 sisters and it was drummed into his head that you never, ever, under any circumstances go into the bathroom when a girl is in there. He taught this to my sons too, and so I quickly learned that the only way to get some uninterrupted time to myself was to do it in the bathroom. So began the tradition of (almost) nightly baths before going to bed. Since then my kids have grown up and I have tried many, many bubble baths. There are some I like better than Village Naturals, but this is the one I always come back to. Its cheap ( about $3 at Walmart ), available at most grocery, drug and discount stores, and most importantly ,the bubbles last at least half an hour in my extra big soaking tub. At this price I can afford to use as much as I want! This contains shea butter and other good stuff so my skin doesn't dry out and it doesn't leave a ring around the tub. Comes in 5 different scents :lavender, white tea, mandarin lime, sandalwood and,my favorite, wild orchid which actually smells like jasmine. The scents dissipate pretty quickly although I think the wild orchid lasts the longest. I love this stuff!

Blush -Cover Girl - Simply Ageless
jacie07 5/15/2010 11:53:00 AM
This beautiful cream blush has a swirl of Olay serum in it and is intended for mature skins. The shade Berry is well pigmented and lasts for about 6-8 hours on me providing a natural looking flush of color. This product comes in a rather large plastic pot which screws off on one side to expose the product and hinges on the other to open a compartment with an applicator sponge. I received this product free as a BuzzAgent but it is rather expensive for a DS product. This will probably last a very long time and I do appreciate the fact that CG has not enclosed this in any extraneous packaging.

Crème -Cover Girl - Simply Ageless
jacie07 5/15/2010 11:42:00 AM
This cream foundation has a swirl of Olay serum in it ( the white swirl color does not affect the foundation color) and is reported to improve skin condition with 4 weeks of continuous use. This leaves a semi-dewy finish and can go from sheer to heavy coverage depending on application method. It has spf 22. This foundation layers beautifully over moisturizer and sunscreen. I prefer my cosmetics to come in a tube or pump bottle rather than in a pot, but do appreciate that the CG people did not enclose this product in any additional packaging.I received this as a free sample from BuzzAgent but it is rather expensive for a DS product. HUge amount of product however.
