Pressed Powders -Smashbox - PHOTO MATTE anti-shine pressed powder
ipathgirl 12/3/2006 9:29:00 PM
Okay so I picked this stuff up a couple of weeks ago while on my search for my HG touch-up powder. It comes in a slim, generic smashbox rubber compact with a mirror and black sponge. I had high hopes for this product to do away with mid-day shinies. I applied the powder with a nice fluffy retractable brush instead of that flimsy sponge that's included. I was shocked to see that it accentuated every single pore on my nose and was really cake looking and caked up around my nose even AFTER blotting first with blotting sheets before applying the powder. Needless to say, this was promptly returned. Not a keeper for me!!

Pressed Powders -MAC - Blot Powder
ipathgirl 12/3/2006 9:21:00 PM
I have literally returned and repurchased this item probably 4-5 times. Everytime I give it another chance, I always have high hopes. This stuff is not bad, it cuts the shine although it's definitely not a miracle. I do have to blot quite a few times throughout the day, and it does tend to build up and look really chalky after a couple of touch ups. I'm a C30 and use the medium/dark and find that it leaves a whitish cast after touch ups, and the dark is much too dark to even consider. Anyway, I'm going to try Hard Candy's o-blot-erate after hearing amazing reviews about it...if that doesn't work out for me, back to M.A.C blot for me :\ If any of you girls can recommend a superior touch-up powder to cut out the shine but not cake up or accentuate pores, pleeeease msg me!!!

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lipglass in clear
ipathgirl 11/30/2006 1:45:00 AM
So, I picked this up yesterday. I was getting tired of how fast my lipstick would wear off even with lip primers. I applied this today over my MAC "gel" lipstick with a lip brush, and yum! Sexy, high gloss shine. Okay, so it's already won me over from initial application compared to other clear glasses, but how long is it gonna last??? Well ladies, I went out to run some errands, had a couple of smokes (i know, it's bad :[) had a cup of tea, and a couple of hours later i was taking out my make up bag to do a quick touch up, and what do ya know?! there's no need to! It's still as shiney, moist and beautiful as when i first left the house. Yes, this stuff is sticky, but like some of the other reviewers have pointed out, that's how you know it's there and stays put. personally, i like the feeling of it. judging by how much product you actually need to use and the fact that i don't see myself needing to touch more than once during a loooong day, at $15.50CDN, this is going to last me quite a while! I love the sleek, classic MAC squeeze tube it comes in. Makes it easy to apply with a portable lip brush. I'm glad that they didn't use those tubes with the sponge-tip applicators since i find it usually picks up the color off your lipstick and makes the nice clear gloss all cloudy :x anyway, i'd definitely repurchase this stuff!

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
ipathgirl 11/30/2006 1:38:00 AM
I bought this again yesterday after using it earlier this year but having to toss it since it dried out so fast. Anyway, I was in need of a new mascara and remembered Diorshow to be pretty good. I also remember a "large" brush, but wow, this thing put my hair brush to shame! LOL All in all, I was not happy with this mascara. It didn't seem to hold the curl i pain stakingly achieved with my trusty shiseido curler, instead it weighed it down. It didn't really give me volume or length...definitely not the dramatic lashes I crave for...nothing a drug store mascara coudln't have done. Not to mention, I dropped 30CDN on this stuff. Going back on the whole dryness issue, I do remember having to throw it out because it dried out SO fast. This wasn't an issue for me this time since I returned it today already lol. Exchanged it for Shiseido's Lasting Lift. hopefully that works out better for me! *crosses fingers*

Blush -MAC - Trace Gold
ipathgirl 11/29/2006 3:06:00 AM
I bought this blush not too long ago but ended up returning it. Any blushes that have more of a bronzy/glowy color always catch my eye. I absolutely avoid red/pink blushes. Needless to say, this fit the bill. It was a lovely bronze with shimmer. I bought it immediately and when I tried it on the next day, it looked GREAT! I know, why did I return it right? WELL, I don't know if I was just late on noticing this, but the shimmer is toooo much, it's almost offensive! lol I could totally see myself wearing this at night or out clubbing, but it's way too shimmery for an everyday blush. If only MAC made this in a matte formula or toned down the shimmer. too bad! :(

Blush -MAC - Sheertone Blush in Gingerly
ipathgirl 11/29/2006 3:03:00 AM
Ugh! This just didn't work for me!! When it comes to blushes, I absolutely hate red/pink overkill. I always look for a natural/brownish bronzer/blush. After reading all the reviews on here, I decided to go out and get gingerly yesterday. It looked really red and brick colored in the pan but still wanted to give it a chance. Anyway, I tried it on and it looked RED RED RED. It wasn't a flattering brown/peach that everyone mentioned, it just looked like clown red. It's unfortunate because I liked how smooth and silky it applied and how easily it blended BUT i guess none of that matters if the color is totally wrong! Just for reference I'm a C30. The search goes on!!

Makeup Brushes -Lola Cosmetics - Rounded Blush Brush
ipathgirl 11/28/2006 1:10:00 AM
Hate to break the prefect score here, but this brush just didn't do it for me. I was looking for a more dense, rounded blush brush as opposed to a fuller, fluffy brush to apply my blush. I went out and got this brush yesterday, and it definitely was not as dense as I thought it would be. It did not apply my brush smoothly and left it streaky and didn't pick up enough color even though the blush itself was fairly pigmented. The over application of the blush caused it to look really chalky!! It is super soft, but also, the head of the brush where the red metal part is connected to the handle seemed really wobbly like it was gonna fall off! Back to Sephora it went! I'm gonna try the MUFE blush brush next :x

Liquid -Estee Lauder - Double Wear
ipathgirl 11/28/2006 1:06:00 AM
I used this in "Desert Beige" for roughly over a month. I had been using studiofix for the past couple of years, and was starting to realise it was too powdery and not long-lasting enough for my likings. I saw the ad at the EL counter and was immediately drawn to this product. I liked the consistency and the color matched perfectly and the product itself seemed to promising that I bought it. I liked it for about 2 weeks unitl I noticed that it was really really thick and hard to blend. I would end up being late for class since I needed so much more time to really blend everything in wihtout completely sheering it out and leaving enough coverage wihtout it look cakey. Since I have oily/combo skin, this stuff made me oily really soon and didn't really hold up throughout the day. I have since switched to the DW powder in "Sand" and prefer it over the liquid version. Much easier to apply with the same coverage! I also did not like the fact that it didn't come with a pump!! BUT, the MAC foundation pumps fit PERFECTLY on to the DW foundation bottles!!

Pressed Powders -Chanel - Poudre Universelle Compacte
ipathgirl 11/28/2006 1:02:00 AM
I returned and purchased this item about 3 times. I know, I couldn't make up my mind. I got it purely for touch ups throughout the day and got 30 Naturel. I used a brush to apply it to my tzone and loved how it kept my skin matte but didn't look powdery or accentuated my pores. I could reapply it as much as I wanted and it would never build up since it's so finely milled. My only complaint is the color selection. 3 different shades, all of which do not suit me. I found the 30, when reapplied looked really dark and muddy on me, but the 20 was way too light and left a white cast. I really wanted to keep this one but had to let it go! Not to mention it cost around $45 CDN!! Just like all Chanel compacts, this one was so darn cute! Nothing compares to MAC blot for touchups though!!

Powder -Chanel - Double Perfection Compact Teint Poudre Mat Eclat [DISCONTINUED]
ipathgirl 11/28/2006 12:57:00 AM
I got this in "sable" which was the closest match to my Asian NC30 skin. I don't know if it's just in Canada, but there were only 6 different shades, all of which were REALLY different from eachother...no "Inbetweens" Anyway, I have only heard good about this PF and the SA was ranting and raving about how great it was. I tried it on the next day and the coverage was not as great as I thought it would be. It was definitely more sheer and I need to pile it on to really get a polished look. I also found that it didn't have the best staying power and didn't really keep me matte for too long. I was skimming through the ingredients list, and behold! Corn starch?? Doesn't that stuff encourage zits and breakouts?? Needless to say, there are better PF out there for MUCH less ($60 CDN IS NOT CHEAP!) I did love the packaging though! Very chic and cute. Too bad it didn't work for me :(

Powder -Christian Dior - DiorSkin Compact Makeup
ipathgirl 11/28/2006 12:52:00 AM
At first, I loved this stuff. I got it in 300 I think it was, and I just loved everything about. Great coverage, but felt and looked like you were wearing nothing. Give it half an hour and it had totally melted in to my skin! Perfect right? Well yeah, until about mid-day you start to look like the tin man!! Now I know this stuff is supposed to make you "glow" and you can sort of see the sparkles in the compact, but wow, I mean my face looked like it was silver or something! really bizarre! I have combination/oily skin, so I can maybe see this working better for someone with dry/normal skin. Maybe it won't be so shiney on them, but unfortunately this went back to the store for me!

Crème -Clinique - superbalanced compact [DISCONTINUED]
ipathgirl 11/28/2006 12:49:00 AM
I agree with the poster below. I usually wear powder foundations but was in search of something new so decided to get this since I have combination skin. It sounded perfect and the color I got matched perfectly as well. I applied it the next day, and it just felt really disgusting. It felt like I was rubbing this greasy crap on to my skin! Not to say, the coverage was poor but you could tell I was wearing make up. Not good! It didn't take long for it to turn orange, AND I was wearing a primer underneath. I haven't had too much luck with the Clinique line as a whole anyway!!

Pressed Powders -Stila - Sheer Pressed Powder
ipathgirl 11/28/2006 12:45:00 AM
I bought this in "Light" and got it mainly as a touch-up powder for the day. The powder was very finely milled which is great for avoiding the cakey look. I brushed it on with my retractable brush, and although it gave me a matte look, it really accentuated the pores on my nose! My skin also became shiny shortly after applying it :(

Pressed Powders -Vincent Longo - Pressed Powder
ipathgirl 11/28/2006 12:42:00 AM
I seem to be the minority here but I really did not like this powder. I was in need of a pressed powder that was finely milled so I could touch up through out the day. I read all the great reviews here and went out and bought it in "Golden Banana." I was so excited to try this and the color match was perfect! Unfortunately, when I applied it, instead of giving me a nice matte polished finish, it accentuated my pores even more and did nothing to control the shine. Needless to say, I returned it the next day :(

Masks -Got 2 Be - In Your Face Pure Intent Clay Masque
ipathgirl 11/28/2006 12:35:00 AM
I'm so glad I bought this mask! I have tried numerous high end clay masks without any success. I was browsing through Shoppers in need of a new mask. I got the Got2Be peel mask, but after reading all the bad reviews when I got back, I returned it the next day and exchanged it for the clay mask! IT'S AMAZING!!! It's super cheap ($4 CDN) and you get a generous bottle. I was a little skeptical at first since if I remember correctly, Got2be is more known for their hair products.LOL. but anyway, I gave this mask a try and I was really impressed! I put a layer on my face after I've washed it, and leave it on for about 10 minutes and then wash it off. I'm left with clean, toned and clear skin! The pores on my face seem to have diminished and the over all clarity of my skin improved. It just feels like it's sucking all the bad stuff out and my skin feels totally decongested! Never irritated my skin or made it flaky. I use this mask about once a week, no more than twice. I will definitely repurchase when I run out!!
