Eye Shadow -Cover Girl - Smoky ShadowBlast
intercitykitty 2/22/2010 7:33:00 AM
Holy. Crap. This has got to be the worst purchase I have ever made. It's so horrible... I am just baffled. It's greasy, goes on unevenly leaving patches of nothing then a patch of greasy colour. The colour is weak. Barely shows up. But if you go over the same spot twice, it removes everything. It doesn't blend at all. I would liken the result to that of a football player with those black grease lines. Not pretty. After my 20 minute drive to work, it was ALL in the crease and my eyes were glistening like I had coated the lid with olive oil. I touched it to try and put some of it back into place... big mistake; my finger took it right off and I was left with greasy lids. ....all this after using primer. The packaging is cheap. The tips of each end are apparently designed to go on well... but instead they are just a huge pain. I really really hope they will take this crap back. If they don't, I'm just going to throw it out.... not even worth keeping.

Top/Base Coats -Essie - Matte About You
intercitykitty 12/31/2009 11:51:00 AM
Love it! I really wanted to test out the matte look for my nails, but the colours I had looked at (at Sephora, OPI brand for Sephora) were limited and I wasn't totally sold. Then I saw Essie's Matte About You. Brilliant! I love that it is a clear top-coat that makes ANY polish appear matte. You can experiment with all your colours to see what looks you like best. So far, I love it over my China Glaze - Recycle. It makes it look like grey velvet. It also looks great over my OPI polishes that have glitter in them. A really stunning, different look! A total bang for your buck. You can use it with any and all nailpolishes you already have. One coat is all you need. The bottle is small, cute, seals well and the brush fans out - so you only need one swipe on nails, 2 on thumb. It also dries very quickly, which is a bonus. Love it.

Foundations -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex SPF 6 for Combination/Oily Skin
intercitykitty 12/31/2009 10:18:00 AM
I have been on a quest to find a long lasting liquid medium-full coverage foundation that worked with my skin for ages. I FOUND IT! This stuff is great. There is a good range of colours, so finding one that works with your skin tone isn't hard. I think this is the closest match I have ever found, even compared to MAC and higher end brands. Usually they are either to pink or too yellow/orange on me, but this is a bang-on neutral beige (shade: Medium Beige). It is a little thick, so you can't pour it out of the bottle. You pretty much have to use a brush (which helps to blend better anyways). It goes on smoothly and very well. Easily blends into the skin and looks flawless! (I do use a primer under my foundation as a rule, so have not tried this on bare skin.) Normally, I finish with a light dusting of translucent powder, but with this stuff I didn't feel it was necessary. It set well after blending and dried to a nice matte finish without looking cakey or chalky. It also feels great on. I have a super oily T-zone that most foundations slide off of by mid-afternoon and leaves me feeling greasy. This stuff is light as air on the skin, can barely feel that I am wearing anything and my T-zone stays shine-less throughout the day/night. Blush and bronzer go on well over top, so there is no issue with that, which is great. I apply it around 6am and don't get home from work til around 6pm and find that it looks just as fresh as when I left the house in the morning. Even if I pop out for drinks after work and get home late, it stays true to color, form and freshness! I am a huge fan of this stuff. For a drugstore brand, I DO find it a little pricey ($21.99CAD). I will buy a back-up when there is a sale rather than paying full price down the line. but IMO it is totally worth it. The only reason I knocked it down a peg was because: -it is hard to get out of the bottle... I forsee wasted foundation in my future. A pump would be a GREAT addition to this product.

Palettes -Cargo - Hands of Hope Eyeshadow Palette
intercitykitty 12/28/2009 12:10:00 PM
Wow! I am totally blown away by this palette! They are full size shadows, so it's fantastic value for your money. My only complaint would be that the book/palette it comes in is rather huge and doesn't seal closed. That makes it a little hard to take with you on a trip etc, but is great for home use. The colours are stunning. I can see myself using all of these on a regular basis (perhaps except the vibrant purple and light tealish-blue). The shadows go on nice and smooth and are weightless. They have a nice shine/sheen to them without being loaded with glitter. Easily blendable. They are well pigmented, but go on lighter than my Urban Decay BOS2 palette. I like that you can build to a darker finish, rather than it being full-on. I especially enjoy the taupe (top row, 3rd shadow from left). A great purchase. I hope to buy more Cargo!

Lipstick -Cover Girl - Outlast
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 2:02:00 PM
Hated it! It went on well, but felt a tad gritty on my lips. It dried smooth-ish, but immediatly my lips felt like all the moisture had been sucked out of them. Even with the 'moisturizing' gloss like stuff. My lips ended up sore and flaking no matter how much of that top coat stuff I put in. It felt waxy, like it was hovering above my lips, rather than penetrating them with moisture. The colour tends to last, which is great if you are a fan of this product. But trying to get it off was a nightmare, even with remover etc. I found for the next few days I had to pamper my lips with Blistex Lip Medex to get them feeling normal again. It looked weird on... almost like I just pressed coloured tin foil to my lips and it somehow magincally stayed there. I tried a few (about 4) different colours of it, thinking perhaps it was just a bad colour I got. But they all had the same unfortunate effect on me. Very drying. I also found it annoying that it came in two parts, rather than a double-ended tube. So carting it around is a little annoying. would never buy again.

Fragrances -Christian Dior - Hypnotic Poison
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 1:53:00 PM
This stuff is gorgeous. It IS very strong... so I think a walking-into-an-air-spritz of it is all anyone would need. You get used to it very fast, so don't be tricked into thinking it fades and that you need to reapply. Rest assured it IS there... it is just nice, subtle and mellow. It's the kind of fragrance that (when worn properly) you have to lean in to smell. The kind of scent I like (that way you aren't offending others with your perfume or having it be the first thing a person notices about you). It's very soft, sexy and warm. A little dark almost (if that makes sense). Great for winter months and fall. Whenever I wear it out to a club, and people have to lean in close to talk over the music, they always stop mid-first sentence to tell me how amazing I smell. It sticks to things like my scarf and the collar of my coat, so I wouldn't apply it during the day (as I think the scent from my winter wear is enough). The bottle is cute and nice. I like that it has some sort of coating over the glass so it doesn't break when dropped (I am prone to doing these things). Total love for this perfume.

Fragrances -Burberry - Brit
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 1:47:00 PM
A really nice scent! Not over powering (if you spritz into the air and walk into the mist, rather than spraying it directly on the skin). It's a very warm scent that is blended very well. Nothing stands out too much... it all works together. Great scent for the winter months. I love how well it stays. I find I don't have to put it on often, as the scent seems to cling to my coat and scarf... and is just enough for daytime wear. The package is cute. Great, sturdy bottle that isn't in the shape of a flower or anything that is rediculously hard to make stand on it's own. I like that it is just a simple, rectangle with the signature plaid as decoration.

Fragrances -Chanel - No.5
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 1:35:00 PM
Dear G*d. Please don't wear this stuff. It is an assault on the senses. All of them. When people wear this stuff I can smell it, taste it and my eyes water. I often wonder if it is stinging my eyes, or if I am crying because so many people choose to wear this stuff! It is VERY chemically smelling to me, almost like really badly made soap/detergent. It has a powdery overtone to it and reminds me of a funeral home! For some reason, people cannot wear this scent lightly. I was tempted to blame the wearer, but for the amount of encounters I have had with over-perfumed people who like this scent, I am leaning more toward the product itself being SO potent, that even a tiny bit is far too much. It is VERY over powering. An instant headache. A woman at my work wears this stuff (after being asked by HR to NOT wear it, as a few people have complained) and I can literally taste it in the air when she walks by, or when I get stuck in the elevator with her. I AM a fan of perfume in general, so it is not a broad distaste for all things scented. This one in particular just happens to be the worst of the worst IMO.

Self Tanners -Jergens - Natural Glow
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 1:24:00 PM
Aw... so close, but not quite as good as I had hoped. It went on ok, not horribly streaky. The smell was ok. It says to keep 'building' a tan with it. After about 3 days of use, I ended up looking like a deranged Oompah-Loompah. My arms and legs were orange, but in the crease of my arm, and by my wrists and the side of my legs (?!) I was totally white. Almost giraffee patterned. Not quite the look I was going for. I think if you use it once every 2 or 3 days, it may give you a hint of colour so you don't look sickly in the winter months. But I would not recommend trying to build an actual tan with it.

Lip Gloss -DuWop - Lip Venom
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 1:19:00 PM
I used to love this stuff, thought it worked like a charm. And it DOES work. It tingles, it plumps. However, after trying Smashbox O-Plump Gloss, I am no longer a big fan of DupWop Lip Venom (O-Plump works much, much better). For the price, it is good and will do the trick. I enjoy the taste/smell. The packaging is nice and I like the applicator and the glass tube (although I am always afraid fo it knocking around and beraking in my purse!). A decent product, but there are better options out there.

Powder -MAC - Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 12:36:00 PM
Over the years I have always had one of these on hand. In my late teens/early 20's, I applied it with the sponge/disc it comes with. As I hit my late 20's, that looked seemed far too heavy and cakey on me. I started applying it with a big kabuki brush and it goes on like a dream. I still get great coverage without looking like I am hiding anything. With a big brush, it gives a finish like you have been airbrushed. Love it. MAC makes a great product, and there is such a great range of colours to choose from, you shouldn't ever have a problem finding your shade. The only reason I knocked it down a peg, was because I find it transfers onto everything; collars, coats, kleenex, boyfirends cheek. It's a tad annoying! I don't use it every day, as I find the coverage tends to be on the heavier side (and is a little much for work), but for going out or wanting to look a little more made-up, I love it.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 12:27:00 PM
Dear Urban Decay; Thank you for this wonderful stuff! It goes on well, smooth, dries fast and whatever I put on my lids... cream, powder, gel liner etc, it lasts until I wash it off. I never get any creasing or flaking with this stuff. I put it on in the morning before work, around 7am, and even if I go out after work my eye makeup looks flawless when I get home (after 11pm). I just started using primers about a year ago, and can honestly say I am a believer! I was weary about them actually doing anything at all, but they really do. Pricey, but 100% worth the investment. You barely use any, so one bottle with last for ages. As well, what you spend on this product, you save on eye makeup since you never have to reapply shadow or liner throughout the day! Fab!~

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 12:22:00 PM
I have no idea why most of my friends swear by this stuff. I was never attracted to it, but it was on sale (literally $1), so I thought I would see what all the hype was about. I am still left dazed and confused. The brush was pretty crappy, the consistency is very thin and didn't go on well. I don't know if it is supposed to lengthen or volumize, but rest assure dear readers, it does neither. I bought 'black' and I think I looked the same before I even put any on. It was barely there. I tired to let it dry and do a second coat. Boy, that was a bad idea! I ended up looking like I only had 5 lashes per eyelid. I looked insane! My lashes were quite crispy and I flaked all day. To add insult to injury, the tube is ugly! It looks cheap, like Barbie makeup for kids... and in this case, you can indeed judge a book by it's cover! Would not buy again.

Fragrances -Demeter - Laundromat Pick Me Up Spray
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 12:14:00 PM
I liked the smell in the bottle. Reminded me, as the name implies, of a laundrymat! On, it took on a weird chemical-like scent and was very, very strong. Ended up giving me a headache after a while. Very perfumy. A friend of mine loved it, so I gave it to her and she wears it all the time. I wouldnt' buy it again.

Polishes -Rimmel - Lasting Finish Polish in Blood Red
intercitykitty 12/22/2009 11:57:00 AM
I have love for this product and colour. Went on well, dried fast, coverage in two coats and with a top coat, didn't chip much at all. I bought this colour while on a business trip. My nails were OPI - An Affair In Red Square, which I adore, but I forgot to bring the bottle with me for touch ups (and didn't want to spend $12 on something I already owned for the sake of 3 days). I found that 'Blood Red' was VERY similar: a nice, true darkish red with a foil finish. It was a little more orange based than Affair In Red Square, but for the tiny chips I touched up, it didn't really look all that different after I applied a top coat. A great colour for the holiday season. Festive! Really adore this stuff and would buy again. Great price!
