Eye Shadow -GOSH - Eye Shadow

I bought the black single on sale. I'm thankful that I didn't pay full price. I suppose this is likely an okay black eye shadow for individuals who do not want an 'extreme' or 'dramatic' look. If you are looking for a pure, pigmented black, however, you will be disappointed. The colour payoff is more of a light charcoal gray, and the staying power is limited. Its blending abilities are unremarkable as well. The only good thing I could say about this product is that the packaging is fairly nice. I have no idea if it is possible to de-pot these, but I like that they are flat-topped (I am somewhat anal-retentive about makeup organization and the fact that I could stack multiple colours - not that I would buy other colours, mind you - is nice). Frankly, I find GOSH's products to be incredibly overpriced for a drugstore brand, especially considering their low quality.

Mascara -Almay - Intense i-color w/ Light Interplay Technology

My mother got this in a makeup set and gave it to me. I am pleasantly surprised by how good of a mascara this is. I have fairly sensitive eyes and most mascara will start to irritate me after 3-4 hours but I can leave this on for 6-8 hours and be fine. It gives pretty significant volume and length and doesn't clump. I don't find it to have much glitter like many 'eye colour'-themed products do, which is perfect for me (I kind of despise glitter in makeup). I can't speak to whether or not this makes my eye colour pop, because I have almost-gray eyes (so there isn't a colour to pick up), and because I tend to wear fairly heavy black makeup which tends to neutralize eye colours. Overall, however, this is in my top three mascaras ever.

Eyeliner -E.L.F. - Liquid Eyeliner - Black

One of the rare liquid eyeliners that doesn't contain propylene glycol or lanolin (I have allergies to both). Nice pigmentation, but I think it has to be applied on primed lids. I tried a swatch on the back of my hand and it was nice and dark, and didn't smudge, but when I applied it to my eyes (no other makeup on) it rubbed right off after I let it dry, which rarely happens with liners for me. I'll try it again with full makeup, but so far I'm not terribly impressed.

Eyeliner -NYX - Eyeliner pencil in White

One of the worst white liners I've used. I'm usually a fan of NYX products but this isn't great. It has zero pigment and no staying power. You can get similar drugstore liners for the same price that are miles better.

Concealers -MAC - Studio Finish Concealer

I bought this as an undereye concealer. I have translucent skin so my undereyes always look sickly. It is a bit dry for under the eyes on its own but if you prep with a light moisturizer it's great. Very opaque. Although it is pricy, a little goes a long way. It melts easily, which normally would be a con, but as this is dry to begin with the softening is actually somewhat appreciated.

Eye Shadow -Jane - Aguaceuticals Aguashimmer Eyeshadow

Nice packaging, but the pros of this shadow end there. I purchased this in the Bamboo shades. It is impossible to blend and the colours look almost sickly once on. Painful to work with for sure. Also, this contains talc, so watch out if you (like many people) are irritated by it. I was also unimpressed by the inclusion of a long-expired coupon for my next purchase. Goes to show how often Jane's representatives check on their products. Gross.

Tinted Moisturizer -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Tinted Moisturizer

Got this on sale - I can see why now. I'm an NC15-20 in MAC products, and the lightest shade of this was far too dark. It also has an orange tinge. It smells odd even when new, applies unevenly and feels oddly dry. After about 3 hours on it made my skin shiny and greasy and it felt awful. If you wear this with a powder on top it will fight some of the discomfort/greasy look for a few extra hours, at least. Also, for a company that's supposedly eco-conscious, their packaging sure isn't.

Eyeliner -Marcelle - Liquid Eyeliner Pen - Black
indigoxiphoid 4/30/2010 11:41:00 AM
This is the only liquid eyeliner I have found to date that I'm not allergic to. Most contain lanolyn or propylene glycol, both of which are common irritants. For that, it gets a 4. However, I'm not impressed with the felt-tip applicator. For the first month (I don't wear makeup daily) the applicator was fine but I couldn't get dramatic cat eyes. A few months later after only sparse use it isn't good for anything other than a straight line - might as well stick with a sharp kohl for that. If Marcelle could make this formula with a brush applicator it would totally be my HG because the formula itself is wonderful.
