Mascara -Max Factor - 2000 Calorie Mascara
iloveyourlips 8/3/2009 5:06:00 PM
You guys convinced me to try this mascara!! :) Thanks!! I got it a few days ago and have worn it twice. The only tiny complaint I have (if it's really one) is that it holds the curl so well it's stiff, but, I'm willing to trade that off for what it actually does to my straight, thin, short lashes: curls them, thickens them, and WITHOUT CLUMPS stays all day without flaking. I'm super excited about it! The first time I put it on it made my eyes feel a little irritated but it went away. I would say it feels similar to wearing strip lashes without the risk of pulling out your lashes after you're done... it came off easily with soap and water.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner in Black
iloveyourlips 7/31/2009 9:29:00 PM
I'll be honest - I've only worn this once, but so far I'm a huge fan! I actually found out about gel eyeliner by getting a horrendous makeover at a Bobbi Brown counter (what MA thinks orange/brown looks great on brown eyes?) but was reluctant to spend $22 on a tiny pot of eyeliner. Then I went to ULTA and saw this one for $11 and snapped it up. It went on smooth and creamy and lasted REALLY well. I'm going to be wearing it at two upcoming weddings so we'll see if it lasts through tears... :) EDIT: Yes, it lasted ALL DAY and kept a nice crisp line without smudging in the heat. Yay!

Bronzers -Too Faced - Snow Bunny
iloveyourlips 7/31/2009 9:26:00 PM
If you're really fair, don't go near this bronzer. It makes your face look dirty and overly shiny - not complimentary. Honestly, the only plus of this makeup is that it looks deliciously similar to neopolitan ice cream - other than that it's overpriced; I've had better luck with Physician's Formula for a third of the price.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lip Lites- Cappuccino
iloveyourlips 7/31/2009 9:22:00 PM
This was my first "real" lipgloss, and I must say, the scent of it brings happy make-out memories wafting over me... :) it doesn't last and does feather but if you're big on scents, this is a good cheap gloss to have.

Primer/ Corrector -Smashbox - Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer- Smashing Color Adjust
iloveyourlips 7/30/2009 7:35:00 PM
This stuff does help a lot if you have large pores on your face - plus it offers shine control, and if that's an issue for you, it might be worth investing in. **but** if you're not willing to spend $48, go to ULTA and get their store brand primer for $12. :) I did, and I use it under my foundation. It smooths everything out on my skin in arguably the same way that the Smashbox primer does.

Liquid -L'Oreal - True Match Super-Blendable Makeup SPF 17
iloveyourlips 7/30/2009 7:32:00 PM
I wore this for around a year because I was too lazy to look for a new foundation - ha! It can be a stressful task - but now that I have my new foundation (Studio Gear Matte - HALLELUJAH) I can see several flaws in this... First of all, it doesn't last. Initial application is smooth but it quickly disintegrates and dissolves into your skin and/or wipes off with any accidental contact. Powder may have helped to set it better. Second, it quickly loses its powder finish and becomes greasy (in my case, in my T zone). Again, powder may have cured this as well. Third, it wasn't buildable. You couldn't add any layers because it caked up a bit. The bright side is that this seemed to work great for my sensitive skin! That's why I used it for so long. For drug store foundation this stuff really is not bad at all!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Extra Volume Collagen mascara
iloveyourlips 7/30/2009 7:11:00 PM
Granted, this stuff works better than Bourjois Liner Effets mascara - and at half the price, that's worth stating. If you're looking for something that doesn't give you "crunchy" lashes (i.e. when you brush your hand against your dry lashes, they're supple as opposed to brittle) and offers a natural look, this might be worth a try. I found that it doesn't flake and is good for naked-looking lashes - so if you have blond lashes and just want color, give it a try. I'm more of a dramatic lashes person and my lashes are already black so I'll keep trying to find my PERFECT mascara...

Mascara -MAC - Pro Longlash
iloveyourlips 7/30/2009 7:06:00 PM
Maybe the name confused me, but this mascara didn't add length to my lashes. The girl at the counter said it would give me volume and curl, too, and in the curl department it holds my straight lashes up slightly. I ended up with twiggy lashes that look curlier but there is zero drama, zero length, and no volume. I've definitely seen the same results with drug store brands (hello $6 Maybelline). This is the second day I've worn it, just to be sure I have to make a return, and now it's making my eyes ache (not sure if it's supposed to be hypoallergenic or not). Boo, MAC! Make your mascara match your awesome shadows :)

Blush -Flirt - Peek-a-Blush sheer powder cheek color in Sweet Surrender
iloveyourlips 7/30/2009 4:03:00 PM
Perfect pinky-peach color for all you fair maidens out there, and it goes on without blotching and stays put all day. I've been using it for about two years now; my only complaint is OPENING the stupid thing, and the packaging always breaks. I must really love it to keep using it - if and when the packaging breaks my love I'm going to try NARS in Orgasm next, I've heard it's amazing, but we'll see. :)

Powder -Studio Gear - Powder Foundation
iloveyourlips 7/30/2009 4:01:00 PM
Okay, so far I'm in love with the SG Matte foundation, and so today for the first time I'm trying a thin layer of powder over the foundation/moisturizer (for lighter coverage). I'm excited to see if it controls shine, I'll update later to make sure it delivers... EDIT: It worked! A light dusting over my T zone kept me looking shine free despite a very active day in the heat. I'm in love.

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous - Shine That Pink
iloveyourlips 7/30/2009 3:49:00 PM
Perhaps the fact that I currently own 4 shades of this lip gloss can attest to its fabulosity... :) If you're looking for a sheer, buildable gloss with very little stickiness and a little bit of sparkle, please, look no further. $6 will get you what you want. I line my lips and fill them in with the pencil before applying the gloss if I want extra coverage, but usually I just swipe it on and go! Warning:: it does kiss off easily, but -- reapplication is easy and wipes off everyone's face nicely. ;)

Brows -Revlon - Brow Styling Gel
iloveyourlips 7/30/2009 3:44:00 PM
After Maybelline discontinued their awesome brow gel, I resorted to this. First of all, the cap over the pencil refuses to stay on and/or breaks, so it's pointless. Second, it does tend to flake if you go over your brows more than once. It's nice for adding a hint of color to sparse brows, so I'll use it until it's gone, but after that I'll probably find a pricier and hopefully better quality product.

Liquid -Studio Gear - matte foundation
iloveyourlips 7/30/2009 3:41:00 PM
I've finally found the perfect foundation! I have dry skin with an oily T zone and this doesn't cake up on the dry areas and after a day of sweating outside I still had a soft glow as opposed to a full oil slick on my forehead. I use the color cream and it's great because I can mix my moisturizer with the foundation and I get a nice sheer, even coverage all over my face. Or, for an evening look, I can just layer it on my face to gently cover (again, without caking!!) my over abundance of freckles. I was formerly using L'oreal Color Match foundation, and at $9 it's decent, but if you even barely touch your face it comes right off, plus after a few hours it gets really greasy. I'm willing to pay more for a foundation that does everything I need it to.

Mascara -Bourjois - Effet Liner Mascara
iloveyourlips 7/28/2009 3:42:00 PM
After spending $17 on this product I thought I would get amazing lashes - I was born with short, straight ones and was looking for a way to boost the curl and volume. The wand reminded me of some of Maybelline's mascaras and after one application I've decided to return it. My lashes are still flat as a board and the wand was super messy - I had to remove the excess with a q-tip (and I'm very careful around my eyes so the issue wasn't me :). I'm bummed! Any suggestions for an alternative mascara that not only promises the same thing but delivers?
