Hair Styling Tools -Conair - French Twist Updo Clip

I have fine hair and even still, the clip doesn't close. I tried doing a half twist even. Good idea, poor execution.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - CVS - Coca Butter Dry Oil Spray
rated 3 of 5
icey6 1/3/2011 12:59:00 AM

I want to like this product and I believe it can be an effective moisturizer except that the spray is so strong that unless you hold it very close to your body (torso) the oily, slippery spray goes everywhere and creates a dangerously slippery situation. Its almost impossible to use it on my arms and legs without having it fall elsewhere and in any case, holding it so close to your body defeats the purpose of the spray - which is an light, even coverage of moisturizer. Good idea but the execution needs improvement.

Eyeliner -Prestige - Total Intensity Eyeliner Deepest Black
rated 5 of 5
icey6 7/13/2010 12:13:00 PM

Fantastic Product - long lasting, cheap, decent packaging, excellent application. I've been using this product for several years and can't imagine changing eyeliner. This liner is a rich, dark black which glides on easily and stays put all day. It is quite soft so you probably won't get a super sharp line unless you sharpen before each use. For a sharp line I'll usually go over with gel or liquid liner (using this as a base and guide). I use the liner on my lid and to tightline and have no issues with my contacts.

Blush -NARS - Taj Mahal
rated 3 of 5
icey6 7/13/2010 11:44:00 AM

I was excited to try this blush because I thought that my medium-dark skin with yellow undertones (East Indian) would be the perfect base for this warm, orange blush. This is not the first bright orange blush I have used so I wasn't intimidated by how bright was in the pan. Taj Mahal is the same high-quality as most NARS blushes, lasts a long time and is packaged in the sturdy, rubber-coated black compact. I haven't loved the color on me and have little use for the blush. The color is VERY strong and VERY orange and it's easy to over-load the brush with a light swipe over the pan. I've owned this blush more than 2 years but I still have to take a tissue and wipe off excess blush most of the time when I apply. I also find that the blush changes color with oiliness and becomes more flaming orange during the day so I try not to wear it for a long time. For me it would have been better if Taj Mahal had a little more peach to it (like 90% orange and 10% peach) and was more hard-packed. I think this would be a lovely color on someone darker, not too warm toned (because the blush is so warming), and who has less oily skin.

Treatments -Nailtiques - Formula 2 PLUS Nail Protein
rated 5 of 5
icey6 7/11/2010 11:35:00 PM

MY PROBLEM - I always had nice nails but occasionally have an issue with reoccurring flaking and weaker nails on my right hand index and middle fingers. About a year ago the flaking became significantly worse and affected more nails. In addition, two of my nails were barely growing past the base. Finally, my right hand middle finger nail was constantly tearing about halfway down the nail bed, resulting in painful weeks of growing out and filing. After about 3 cycles of the middle finger nail breaking I finally bought this product (after a failed attempt with some Sally Hanson product and nail hardener). Does this work? Absolutely! After about 7 weeks of use everyday my nails are almost perfect and growing beautifully. The worst nails still look like they could flake a little but have not and my nails are generally looking health, long and even. They're even getting the fake nail look! You have to use this product exactly as directed (there's a little insert in the box with directions) - 1) Everyday! For the first two weeks I was varying how often I used it and it did nothing. About 3-4 weeks after I started using it everyday I noticed a significant improvement. I usually keep the bottle by my bedside and put on a coat before bed. It dries very quickly. 2) You have to remove it every 3-4 days. I don't get peeling but it definitely starts looking crusty. Also, it makes your nail yellow but that is easily fixed by buffing the nail when you remove/reapply. 3) Try to not wear nail polish until your nails start looking healthy. The dual purposes of this are to give your nail breathing room and allow you to apply Formula 2 everyday (it has to go under nail polish). Now days I don't even want to wear nail polish because my bare nails look so nice! Bottom line - It works and is worth the price if you use it everyday, as directed.

Hair Styling Tools -Remington - 3-in-1 Styler Hairdryer
rated 5 of 5
icey6 6/21/2010 7:46:00 PM

I purchased this dryer from Target where it was on sale for $25.19 (regular price $27.99). The dryer is 1875 watts and features the usual high-low settings for heat and fan and a cool air button. There is an "eco" setting meant to minimize electricity use. The dryer comes with 3 attachments: diffuser, concentrator and beachwaver. It is both Tourmaline and Ionic. This is a great dryer. It is lightweight, not very noisy, and it dries my hair quickly without frying it. The concentrator and diffuser attachments are pretty standard. The jewel in this package was the beachwaver. It's a strange looking clear plastic tube attachment and I dismissed it at first as a useless marketing tool. Finally, I tried it out a week after purchasing and it's now my favorite attachment! You simply put a lock of hair in and let the dryer to the work. The airflow is moved down the tube in a twisty motion (like a tornado) and it spins the hair as it dries. Because of the hot air and rapid spinning your hair dries faster and comes out in a perfect, loose ringlet. When you shake out the ringlet you get well formed and long lasting waves/curls. There's a short learning curve to using this attachment and working out what works best for your hair (make sure the narrow part of the tube is on top and the wide part going down. You'll know if you're doing it right when your hair starts spinning around....weird but it works!) A great dryer that works well, looks good (and leaves you looking good), and is a good value for price.

Styling Products -Organix - Nourishing Coconut Milk Weightless Mousse
rated 4 of 5
icey6 1/29/2010 8:53:00 PM

ORIGINAL REVIEW 01/29/2010 Disclaimer: I've only been using this product for a week, but I've used it several times this week. This is the first time I've really liked a mousse, because I hate the scrunchy feel of most mousses. This is totally different. It's lightweight, non scrunchy, non sticky and has a great, light coconut scent. I used it to blow dry with a round brush and make waves with diffuser and it gave me good volume and hold - even the second day after washing my hair. I think it also repels dirt because my hair isn't very greasy after two days. I've found the mousse is a lot like the Living Proof products. UPDATE 06/21/2010 After using this product for 6 months I stand by my review above. I'm still very pleased with this mousse. I have medium-long hair and I use it every other day - I use about 3-5 pumps/use. I'm still using the same bottle I reviewed back in January! Great value! Tip - If your curly/wavy hair looks flat after sleeping on it use a little water to revive the mousse. I find that scrunching then lightly shaking out my hair brings back the curl and volume.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Chrome Nail makeup
rated 3 of 5
icey6 11/20/2009 10:06:00 PM

Its just a fancy silver nailpolish, it doesn't have the mirror like finish advertised on the box (I purchased the Color Quick paintbrush like one in Silver Chrome). It's quite thick so buffing first is a must, you must watch out for air bubbles and one coat was sufficient. A Sally Hansen top coat actually dulled the finish and made it even less mirror like. Nothing special and quite expensive, I will be returning. EDIT: I second the comment below that it looks like aluminum foil - I was thinking the same thing.

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - Powder Brush
rated 5 of 5
icey6 9/6/2009 1:03:00 PM

Excellent brush, with the added bonus of being synthetic & eco friendly. I love the soft texture which results in a very natural application of blush - especially if you blend well. I found it to be the best blush to apply NARS blushes because it really blends out and diffuses the fine glitter to give your cheeks a natural sheen, as intended by NARS. I have used this brush for over a year and traveled with it, it does not shed or show any wear. Also, these brushes are the best value and widely available at Walgreens (though frequently sold out!!). Better than the Urban Decay blush brush.

Lip Gloss -NARS - Dolce Vita
rated 4 of 5
icey6 8/15/2009 7:05:00 AM

This is a lovely dusky rose/mauve colour, creamy, medium opacity, not very sticky at all. I am medium-dark skinned (warm toned) and this creates a pretty neutral & finished look for my daytime/work makeup. One lippie off for price, but I would still buy again.

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - retractable kabuki
rated 5 of 5
icey6 8/15/2009 6:58:00 AM

Excellent little brush, very reasonably priced (under $10 at Walgreens). It is not very dense but perfect for me to apply Makeup Forever's HD powder. The aluminum packaging is rather frail and prone to dents, be careful when traveling.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Dazzleglass in Miss Dynamite
rated 5 of 5
icey6 11/2/2008 8:42:00 PM

Love, LOVE this gloss. My first dazzleglass purchase, and I only own about 2-3 other glosses, but this one is FANTASTIC. Its a very classy "wear to the Company Christmas party and dazzle boss with witty banter and sparkling smile" type of look :) Its not very pigmented, rather, it provides a rich copper shimmer that compliments yellow skintones. I usually wear it alone, but can't wait to try it over a pretty peach/coral/brown lipsticks.

Lotions/ Creams -Nivea - Natural Tone Body Lotion
rated 4 of 5
icey6 10/26/2008 10:18:00 AM

I've been using this lotion regularly for 3 months. I received a sample before it was released where it was advertised as a "face and body" lotion...the actual product however is only advertised as a body lotion. I've continued to use it for both as I find it works well for face and body. I like the lotion as an everyday moisturizer, it's very light and has the right amount of moisturizing. It absorbs really fast and my skin feels naturally moisturized. I'm not sure if it really does anything to "tone" or if SPF 4 is particularly useful. I plan to repurchase, this is one of my staple products.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
rated 4 of 5
icey6 4/19/2008 3:39:00 PM

I echo all the other positive comments below. Eyeshadow stays on well, colours are more vibrant (although if you have a very bright colour you might notice a little fading at the end of the day). The only negative is the crappy bottling and for something quite expensive you would expect better. I will repurchase.

Blush -NARS - Torrid
rated 4 of 5
icey6 4/19/2008 12:42:00 PM

This is my HG every day blush. I am medium-dark skinned with strong yellow undertones (East Indian). This blush gives me a wonderful, natural peach-gold flush. The blush lasts all day, stays in place and the packaging is amazing! I had a hard time giving Torrid only 4 lippies instead of 5. This isn't necessarily a "WOW" blush but rather a "wow, so naturally beautiful". I might upgrade to a 5 as I continue to use it (I've had it for 2 weeks)
