Cleansers -Philosophy - Purity Made Simple (Real Purity Cleanser)

I must be allergic to some ingredient in this product. It is fine for every once in a while, I like the smell, which is slightly herbal and I want to love it, really I do, but if I use it for more than three days in a row, my skin starts to flake and burn. I get scaly dry patches that HURT and turn red. As soon as I stop using it, my skin starts healing. This happened to me years ago when I first bought the product, but I was hoping it was a fluke. Nope. Back then I had to use primrose oil to soothe the burning patches and it was the same old song and dance this time around as well. I don't even have particularly sensitive skin.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in Gold Shimmer
rated 4 of 5
horangi113 12/23/2012 12:47:00 AM

I literally hunted for this color all over NYC before finally striking gold (pun intended) in the basement of a Duane Reade. I also bought Rich Mahogany and Barely Beige and wish Maybelline would introduce all these LE shades into the regular lineup. Out of all the Fall 2012 Color Tattoos, this one was my absolute favorite. The reason I overlooked it the first time around is that I don't really care about gold eyeshadows, but when I started seeing the review swatches posted by beauty bloggers, I knew I had to find this beautiful metallic brown shade. I think a more suitable name would have been Antique Bronze rather than Gold Shimmer. The texture is ultra smooth and the color payoff is excellent on the first swipe. It is also buildable for added depth, and I love the little glass pot. I generally just use my finger to pat it and blend it on my eyelid. Minus one lippie because they are limited edition!

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - EyeStudio Trio in Rose Revolution #15

Lovely colors in this and the other palettes, but too much 'slide' - they crease like mad! Not even primers help. Such a shame as the shades in this palette and the Neutral one are so pretty.

Bronzers -Physicians Formula - Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder - Light Bronzer
rated 4 of 5

I love this product, but as I've found with other Physician's Formula bronzers, you have to be mindful of choosing the right shade for your skintone, as they tend to run somewhat 'light.' I have a light to medium complexion and I use this more as a highlighting / finishing powder than as a bronzer, as the color does not show up much on my skin tone. This would be an ideal bronzer for those with very pale complexions, as it is not muddy or orange at all, and has the pink heart to provide a little pop of healthy color. That said, I can buff it on with a pretty heavy hand and still not look dirty at all, just healthy and glowy. There is not too much shimmer in this either, which I appreciate, and I find the faint floral fragrance to be pleasant. My primary beef with this product is that while the multiple heart design is adorable, some of the darker powder shades in the compact seem 'harder' than the lighter shades, which causes uneven wear, and which may be why the bronzer is not dark enough. I'm hitting pan on the pink heart while the darker heart right above it is significantly raised and shows much less wear, so you have to be mindful of stroking your brush over certain parts of the cake more than others. Aside from that, I do love this product for the beautiful, glowy look I get (my boyfriend actually always comments how pretty I look when I wear this), and it is the first product I've touched pan on for a long time. I am curious to try out the medium bronzer shade to see if it is better as, well, a bronzer.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - Sinful Vanilla (Halloween 2011 line)
rated 4 of 5

Just picked a 3 oz bottle of this during the Hello Yellow sale for $1.25. Definitely a musky, ambery vanilla. When I sniffed it, I got transported back to high school, when I wore Coty's Vanilla Musk EVERY DAY. For those of you who can't find this during the sale and are unable to stock up, you may want to check out the Coty fragrance as a suitable alternative.

Fragrances -mark - Sophistique

I will probably have to edit this since today is the first time I'm wearing this - it started out great, but the dry down has been rather cloying. It reminds me of the Precious Puffs toys they had in the 80's. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=my+precious+puffs&view=detail&id=0BC710346B0BEEC5D0D3CE99235B1138D46B6AD2&first=0&FORM=IDFRIR

Cleansers -St. Ives - Olive Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
horangi113 3/13/2010 5:24:00 PM

I was actually surprised by how much I loved this cleanser. I have slightly sensitive combination skin, and it is very hard to find cleansers that effectively clean without drying my face. This manages to do just that - degreases without making my skin feel dry and tight. It's not even a creamy formula either, which surprised me even further. I also like the smell - it is not offensive to me. The packaging isn't anything to make you get up and dance, but I do appreciate that it comes in a hygienic dispenser bottle that has a twist open/shut pump, which makes it great for travel. I constantly find this on sale for around $3, give or take, and I have repurchased. I am not too concerned about natural vs. non-natural cleansers, but for those who are, this is a great, inexpensive option. I believe St. Ives is also cruelty-free.

Fragrances -Fresh - Lemon Sugar
rated 3 of 5
horangi113 7/19/2005 6:17:00 PM

My sister and I both tried this and while it does have an antiseptic drydown on her (she said it made her smell like an antibacterial wipe), on me this has a sweeter, lemon tea scent which I can't complain about. I am a little disappointed with the staying power of this fragrance though.

Lipstick -MAC - Lustre Lipstick in Desire
rated 4 of 5
horangi113 5/18/2004 3:46:00 PM

Good dark plum stain with little 'gloss' or shine in it. The reason I bought this lipstick in the first place was b/c of the texture and 'stain' qualities. It is a little dark in the tube but I generally apply with a light hand (dab dab dab!) and layer gloss on top if I want to add more dimension to the color. It is surprisingly versatile as a 'base' color, and goes well with a number of glosses ranging from a cooler pink to a warm apricot tone.

Mascara -Maybelline - Lash Expansion [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
horangi113 4/28/2004 9:25:00 PM

This mascara is surprisingly durable for a non-waterproof formula (normally the only kind that I use). It doesn't flake, smudge or smear and I'm pretty bad about touching my face during the day. It's a good, basic mascara for daytime and is excellent for defining and separating lashes but look somewhere else if you want sooty nighttime volume.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
rated 3 of 5
horangi113 9/25/2002 10:49:00 PM

I have bought two tubes of this product, and it is a great mask for the price. The minty smell is great, although there are moments when I catch a whiff of sulfur. I also have to be careful to use it only on my t-zone, and not on my entire face. If I spread it out over my cheeks, my skin becomes inflamed. However, I love the job it does for sucking up the oil on my nose, and I used to get compliments on how 'glowy' I looked whenever I gave myself a facial using this mask.
