Shampoo -Trader Joe's - Nourish Shampoo
hoodoo 9/26/2012 8:00:00 PM
Unfortunately this was far too drying for my fine, dry hair. This would be a good choice for someone with strong hair who needs an oil-reducing shampoo. Nice that it had no strong smell, though. I returned it.

Handy detangler for days when you don't want heavy conditioning. Leaves hair light and fluffy. No heavy perfume, hooray!

Nothing but love for this. I use it on face, hands, body and it never sets off my sensitive, reactive skin.

Cleansers -Trader Joe's - Nourish All in One Facial Cleanser
hoodoo 6/30/2012 3:13:00 AM
Great cleanser! I will buy this for as long as they sell it. I'm used to being disappointed in cleansers that either irritate, smell like cheap perfume, don't work, or all three. So when I tried this one and it worked so well, so effortlessly, it was almost kind of eerie :-) I have reactive, thin dry skin and it is smooth and calm after using this cleanser. I even tried applying it to dry skin as the label advises, and it works beautifully. No detectable smell whatsoever. This product is a steal!

Moisturizers -Olay - Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream fragrance-free
hoodoo 5/24/2012 10:39:00 PM
Great product -- does everything it promises beautifully, and with no fragrance! This is one of the few winners in my recent quest to switch from expensive brands to drugstore brands. If you're a veteran of the Clinique/Prescriptives trenches like I am, then get this cream. You won't be disappointed. UPDATE 6/1 Still liking this. I can deal with the microglitter (there's not that much of it) because I'm getting such good results.

Moisturizers -Olay - Total Effects 7-in-1 Mature Skin Therapy

Another failure in my quest to replace lifelong expensive skincare with drugstore brands: once again, a very nice product in every way except fort the super-strong cheap perfumey smell. I had to return it. A message for Olay: fragrance-free equals added value for us boomers who grew up on Clinique and Prescriptives. Our demographic is alive and kicking, and spending!

Moisturizers -Olay - Regenerist Night Recovery Moisturizing Treatment

Once again, Olay makes a nice product with an intolerable smell. I liked the way this worked and loved the elegant formula, but neither I nor anybody else in the house could deal with the strong lingering fragrance. I had to return it. Olay, when are you going to get the message?

I liked the way this toner worked, but I couldn't deal with the super-strong fragrance. It's just suffocating. Had to return this.

Treatments (Eye) -Olay - Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum

Had to return this. It made my eyes turn red, plus I didn't care for the sparkles and the yellowish tint it left on my skin.

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
hoodoo 8/31/2010 5:36:00 AM
My skin is not politically correct. It loves mineral oil, petrolatum and all the petrochemicals it can get. It objects to natural oils, botanical ingredients, and aromatic essences. I find this annoying, and hard to explain in places like Berkeley, but my skin is not about to change its mind. Lately I've been using DDML under Clinique treatment creams, as recommended by Clinique but scoffed at here on MUA, and it seems to make them absorb better. My skin looks clear and smooth with Clinique, darn it. Caveat: use this only if you have truly dry skin. The older you get, the better it works.

Cleansers -DHC - DHC Cleansing Milk
hoodoo 8/1/2009 9:01:00 PM
I've gone through a number of these and I'm surprised there's no reviews! It's great!! This product is a lotion-textured cleansing cream/milk in a tall pump bottle: no fragrance :-)) and no dyes or colorings, as per usual at DHC. What makes this cleanser different: it seems to be a cleansing oil in creamy form. You apply it as a makeup remover to dry skin, massage it around and then either tissue off or rinse with water. I find a second cleansing to be optional, depending on how layered with stuff I am :-) For minimal makeup and average-day sunscreen, it's fine alone, but for waterproof sunscreen plus makeup, IMO an additional cleansing with your usual cleanser would be in order. For years I had wished for a cold cream or cleansing cream with all of these features, and I became devoted to this product as soon as DHC came out with it. It's a fairly large bottle, but it travels a bit more securely than a cleansing oil would - no leaks so far. I'll never be without it! Ingredients: water/eau, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, triethylhexanoin, dipropylene glycol, squalane, pentylene glycol, polysorbate 60, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, carbomer, stearic acid, batyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, sucrose stearate, sorbitan stearate, glyceryl stearate SE, behenyl alcohol, tocopherol, potassium hydroxide

Excellent performer. Agree with all the positive comments here and after I finish applying this primer, I rub my hands together and run them through my hair! A great non-greasy frizzy-tamer!

Powder -Jane Iredale - Pure Pressed Base
hoodoo 7/14/2009 4:43:00 AM
This was my favorite foundation for years and years. I went through countless compacts of Light Beige but after reordering three compacts, found that the foundation is now much darker than it was. There was no notice or advice on the website that the formula had been changed or that the colors were now darker. So I emailed JI, and here's their reply: "Thank you for your email. Jane Iredale has reformulated her foundations and she has removed bismuth and replaced it with boron nitride. The foundation shades will appear slightly darker compared to the older formulation. Jane reformulated her foundation to improve it so that it will provide better coverage and both the new and old formulation are safe to use. As per our 14 day return policy we would not be able to allow a return on this product. You may need to try a lighter shade such as the Bisque foundation shade. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. Again, thank you for your email and have a great day." So I'm stuck with well over $100 in purepressed compacts that are useless to me. Great customer service, Jane!
