Brows -Unlisted Brand - castor oil

I used to be a product junkie. Like, intensely. Then I began a purging phase and wanted to be a minimalist. Ultimately, I wanted not to have to use makeup. I wanted beautiful skin and hair and everything else without having to pretend. (Crazy sounding, right?) This is the best product I have found. Mainly my skin care regimen consists of a lot of different oils. I originally bought this with the intention of lash/brow growth because I wanted to see more fullness and not have to wear mascara. I wasn't really sure what else I would use this for until my room mate, who is a nautropathic med student told me alllll about the wonders of Castor oil. It is a wonderfully healing oil, ultimately. If you type castor oil in google it will tell you all about the different uses. I have not used it in pack form, yet, though. I do use it as my main oil for the OCM. At first I noticed a lot of what people think are breakouts or congestion. Really, what was happening was that it was drawing all of the impurities in my skin to the surface. And it does a right quick job for it. And it makes perfect sense, really. If your skin is a way to show what is going on in your body, then in is safe to say that any drainages or pimples or whatever skin concerns you will have are coming from within. I also use 1 drop of castor oil to 1 drop of emu oil for my facial moisturizer after icing. I've noticed less acne, more even, toned and glowing skin. I think this is what orgasm (NARS or real one) is supposed to look like ;) Body moisturizer? Half castor oil and half coconut oil. I have noticed incredible tone, evenness and cellulite reduction since using this after a shower. I also use this for boo-boos. I have this terrible habit of picking at imperfections I find on my body and this heals them pretty darn quick. Also, it's really safe for eye use. You might wake up feeling goopy in the morning after putting it on your lashes, but since it's been known to cure styes I have no fear that that irritation is doing something terrible if it accidentally gets in my eye. I apologize for the incredibly long rant. I just feel that castor oil is so amazing, especially for non-beauty purposes. But since this site is pretty much about vanity, or as a means towards inner beauty, I thought I'd share my experience through using it.

Shampoo -SAMY - Dry Spray Shampoo
rated 5 of 5

After trying B&B's hair powder and being increasingly unimpressed, it was refreshing to find a non-salon brand (i.e. affordable) alternative that didn't leave me looking dirty and having to clean my walls, clothing, hands, face, etc after use. It also smells really fresh also. The price is right and honestly, I can't wait for second day hair so that I can use it, because my hair def. looks better the second & third day now, instead of looking like a giant grease ball.

Styling Products -Alterna - Hemp Seed Sheer Pomade

First off, this smells fantastic. Sort of fruity and a bit nutty... It's hard to explain. This worked great for texturizing the pixie 'do I originally bought it for making it glowy as well as piecey. After two years I still had half a tube left and never thought I'd use it up now that my hair is quite a bit longer. It actally works great to give a little bit of volume shine and hold to achieve a beachy bedhead sort of look. One lippie off as it can get a bit greasy in fine hair, seriously a little bit goes a long long way

Fragrances -LUSH - American Cream Solid Perfume
rated 5 of 5
hollyglightly 7/16/2008 1:32:00 PM

The first time I visited a Lush store I was so siked on their products... Except their perfumes. Smelling them in the tin, I was so turned off and confused to why anyone would wear such unpleasant fragrances. You definitely need to try each of these on before you pass judgement! American Cream is the most pleasantly un-typical vanilla fragrance I have ever come across. It is sweet and warm but the spice and green-y ness of it keeps this fragrance from smelling too much like bath and body works or a stinky candle. It is innocent but edgy and I would have it no other way!

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Crystal Blue Glossimer
rated 5 of 5

I have a million lip products... this is one of the only ones I've ever finished. Maybe it has to do with the fact that it's LE.. who knows. I ran out and really wanted it again but the Chanel SA had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about it. I found it on Ebay, but it's so rare I doubt I'll ever find it again. I covet this gorgeous silvery blue color that just looks dazzling on. I can't explain it, it's definitely not blue but it's not clear either. Either way, it makes my lips look ravishing and my blue eyes POP!

Polishes -China Glaze - Yell-O-Neil
rated 5 of 5
hollyglightly 6/3/2008 9:41:00 AM

I used to work in a coffee shop and a customer came in wearing it... I fell in love. I searched and searched for Yell-O-Neil to no avail. I moved to Oregon and happened to be in ULTA.. no sign of it. Once more bummed about it being nowhere, I went to check out, and it just happened to be on clearance at the counter for half price. Just my luck. I love this warm-taxi-yellow with fine glittery shimmer. I really should have bought more. It's a great great great punch of color for hands and toes. I wear it all year round... whatever I'm in the mood for, but I think this is great as a spring/summer color too! If I can get my hands on another I will. Hands down best yellow polish, for sure.

Top/Base Coats -Seche Vite - Dry Fast Top Coat
rated 5 of 5

This does get gloopy thickly... frankly I am too lazy to use a nail polish thinner in it. Insead I buy the .125 oz size...Trade Secret sells them. it stays a good consistency until it is gone. I just can't justify spending 10 bucks on a top coat for it to go bad halfway through the bottle. But I won't reiterate waht others have said... this is just tooo good to be true! I am one of those people who will inevitably trip and fall over something right after i do my nails and screw them alllll up. Helps so much!

Polishes -Essie - Island Hopping
rated 5 of 5
hollyglightly 6/2/2008 5:18:00 PM

Island hopping was part of the Summer 2007 collection. It really is hard to describe... in the bottle it looks Lilac-Purple-Grey... not very summery to say the least. But on, it is totally WOW. Like a rich chocolately raisin color. I feel so sophisticated and classy everytime I wear it. It is great on tosies as well as short well kept fingernails and I also feel that I can wear it all year round. The application process was actually one of the most smooth I've experienced... many state that their Essies go on streaky.. not this! Love!

Lip Gloss -Lola Cosmetics - Lip Gloss in Almost Paradise
rated 5 of 5
hollyglightly 5/27/2008 7:36:00 PM

I lusted after this for a while after trying it on in ULTA, super cute packaging gorgeous in the tube...like a golden sandy sparkling soft peach. I always go for peachy pink shades and needed desperately to try something new/nude haha. This is like my lips only better. This would seem like a summer shade but sometimes it is too much bronze for my liking. Love love love!

Lip Gloss -Urban Decay - Big Fatty Lip Plumper
rated 4 of 5
hollyglightly 5/27/2008 6:57:00 PM

This looks really pretty in the tube... Mostly gold sparkles. And it's also very flattering when you put it on your lips... Clear but shiny with a golf tinge. After about five minutes your lips get bright pink. This shade is flattering for some complexions ie darker ones or summertime tans or bronzers... You get the picture. During the winter when I'm super pale this is not a flattering shade. It looks like I'm having an allergic reaction! I doubt I'll re buy, this lasts forever!

Lotions/ Creams -J. R. Watkins - Lemon Creme Shea Butter
rated 5 of 5
hollyglightly 5/27/2008 6:12:00 PM

This hand cream is one of the best I've tried thus far. It smells like freshly baked lemon bars... I seriously want to lick my hands when I put this on. It feels rich and creamy without being greasy. Sinks in quickly and moisturizes forever, my hands look so soft and healed after the stress of a coffee shop. I think I will buy the lavender to put on at night, a little more soothing than waking up to the smell of naked goods... But if that's your thing!

Lotions/ Creams -Alba Botanica - Original Body Lotion
rated 5 of 5
hollyglightly 5/27/2008 2:47:00 PM

H freakin' G. I love this. While it doesn't sit on top of your skin, it sinks in and actually moisturizes unlike the majority of lotions and leaves you with a beautiful white flower scent. I feel like I'm in Hawaii. Not like tropical fruity Hawaii, just gorgeous relaxing gardenia vines type Hawaii. I don't find the scent to be old-ladyish whatsoever and neither do my roommates! This is not as moisturizing as I would like it to be during the cold cold winters in Reno so I layer some Bio-Oil over and gorgeous soft silky skin is mine. Perfect for summertime though.

Lotions/ Creams -Burt's Bees - Beeswax & Banana Hand Creme
rated 3 of 5
hollyglightly 5/27/2008 2:41:00 PM

I used to be a barista in a coffee shop and was constantly washing my hands and doing dishes with harsh detergents. The smell is god auwful after a while (think artificially flavored banana runts nastiness) but this really helped repair them. I couldn't justify putting it on as often as I would have liked to keep the dryness at bay while I was working because it took so freakin' long to sink in, so now I use it as a sock foot overnight treatment thingy and it really works wonders... they should change it to a foot cream and I would repurchase it, but it is entirely too emollient as a hang cream unless you have a half hour to not use your hands while it works it's magic.

Highlighters -BeneFit Cosmetics - High Beam
rated 5 of 5
hollyglightly 5/27/2008 2:35:00 PM

I love love love High Beam. I put it on after tinted moisturizer and before blush and it makes my apples glow-y and gorgeous. No matter what blush it is paired with, it does a good job of enhancing with out looking like trashy disco club girl... unless that's your thing of course! I have purchased many times throughout the years and will continue to repurchase. The prices seems a bit high but it lasts so long it is really justifiable in the end :D

Mascara -Prescriptives - Lash Envy
rated 4 of 5
hollyglightly 5/27/2008 2:30:00 PM

This was my HG mascara for a long time. Gave a lot of volume and length, I could even put it on my short bottom lashes without making them look crazy and spider-like. Applying multiple coats was not a problem for me either... minimal clumping. I am blonde and the brown was a nice dark color without being too black. The only qualm I have about this is how quickly it seems to dry out. I never double pump it and always try to close the lid as tightly as possible. I even keep it in the original plastic tube packaging for godsake! If you can justify spending the money as often as it would take to keep a fresh formula, then have at it and get ready for some sweet lashes.
