Powder -L'Oreal - Bare Naturale Powdered Mineral Foundation
historismus 5/6/2013 12:31:00 AM
This is my go-to foundation on good skin days or when I know I'll be sweating more than usual. It blends really nicely and gives a matte yet luminous finish. It evens skintone and reduces redness. Unless you cake it on, you'll need concealer. The coverage is buildable but tends to look worse the more you apply. When applied lightly, though, it's very natural-looking and pretty. Wear time is decent but not outstanding. I haven't noticed problems with patchy melting or anything, however. I wish they made lighter shades (I use N1-2, which is the lightest) but this is the best I'm gonna find at the drugstore. I have repurchased it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a light-coverage mineral powder.

Blush -Hard Candy - Fox in a Box Spicy & Sweet

I hate to soil this acclaimed product with a poor review, but this just didn't do it for me. It's a glitterbomb. Very pretty colour but looks totally unnatural on me due to the copious sparkle.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - In The Flesh
historismus 4/10/2013 11:02:00 PM
As said before me, this is an everday, perfect MLBB colour and is fast becoming my favourite lipstick. I am crazy about the finish of this lipstick too. I recommend a light application of balm under or over it, lest it be too drying - but the great thing is that balm won't break the product down or cause considerable transference. Instead you'll get impressively long-lasting, semi-matte gorgeous lippie. Will repurchase. For anyone wondering, the shade number is 912C.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast Clump Crusher Water Resistant
historismus 4/10/2013 9:17:00 PM
Unfortuantely I was not at all impressed with this mascara. Didn't hold my curl, flaked, and somehow made my lashes look wispier than they do without product. I did really like the brush (great for those corner lashes), but the formula just didn't cut it for me. Won't repurchase.

Treatments -LUSH - Roots Healthy Scalp
historismus 4/7/2013 5:05:00 PM
I have fine, thin hair and this was okay for me. It certainly left my hair feeling soft and smooth, but I saw no significant difference to my hair's volume. The tingly peppermint feeling is nice but bottom line is that a homemade hair mask will have the same effects basically for free. Not worth the expense IMO, and so I won't repurchase.

Lip Treatments -Blistex - Regular lip balm with SPF 15
historismus 4/3/2013 12:59:00 AM
Like the previous reviewer mentioned, this does provide a long-lasting and effective layer of protection against the elements; I also like that it has SPF and is super inexpensive. But it's not moisturising enough to stop me from trying something else. Not a fan of the smell, either.

Skincare - Body -Johnson & Johnson - Baby Oil

Oh damn, I never thought I would find such an effective eye makeup remover in such a big and affordable bottle. This works doubly well for me because my eye area gets very dry. I have had no problems with breakouts of a result of this product.

Treatments -Clarins - Face Treatment Oil - Lotus
historismus 4/2/2013 12:15:00 AM
For reference, I have combo skin (oily T-zone and chin, dry eye area, some minor acne and large pores around the nose). I have a complicated relationship with this product. When it works, it pretty much works like a dream - reduced spots, even skintone and texture, soft and balanced skin. The problem is that it doesn't work consistently. For a product this expensive, you kind of need it too. I never found out why it worked sometimes and not others. BUT, for best results, I'd recommend using this when your pores are as clean and open as they will go - after an evening shower or steaming. Also, I would recommend alternating use of this with your regular moisturiser, as I found I started to break out if I used the oil more than 3 or 4 nights in a row. Don't load it on - a light layer will do. Because of the price and the sometimes-unreliable results, I probably won't be purchasing this again. I'll check out what else Clarins has, though.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal Waterproof

This is one of my favourite mascaras at the moment. I will repurchase unless something pretty great comes along. PROS Defines and lengthens lashes Holds curl No smudging, clumping, or flaking Lashes stay perky and separated the whole day CONS Brush makes it tricky to get corner and bottom lashes without mess Difficult removal

Mascara -Avon - Wash off Waterproof mascara
historismus 3/4/2013 12:02:00 AM
I'm sorry to have to give this mascara a poor review amidst all of the glowing ones. Unfortunately it just did nothing for me. It made my lashes look almost wispier than they do without mascara, and my curl fell pretty much immediately. It was definitely waterproof but when I removed it, it came off in flakes, leaving little black bits all over my face which actually prolonged the process. I won't repurchase.

Foundations -Cover Girl - Natureluxe Liquid Silk Foundation
historismus 12/11/2012 1:26:00 AM
PROS - The most beautiful finish. It's completely natural-looking and gives that radiant-from-within glow. - The lightest shade matches me very well. It's difficult to find pale enough shades at the drugstore. CONS - Too dewy for summer wear. - Not incredibly long-wearing. It does alright with some powder though. - As it fades, I've noticed it looking a little patchy. It's quite light coverage, so I'd recommend this for use on good skin days (and when you don't expect to sweat much). It's not my favourite foundation but I'll probably repurchase this when I run out.

Lipstick -Revlon - Revlon Colorburst in Peach
historismus 12/1/2012 8:31:00 PM
This was one of those wanted-to-love-it products for me. I'm generally a fan of Revlon lip products and decided to give their Colorburst line a try. This colour is beautiful and the packaging is really cute. Unfortunately, this is the most drying lipstick I have ever tried - more drying than the matte lipsticks from Revlon, which are great. This product also clung to the dry bits on my lips that I didn't even know I had. I can't speak for the other Colorburst shades, but I sadly wouldn't recommend this.

Styling Products -TRESemme - Instant Heat Tamer Spray
historismus 11/15/2012 11:43:00 PM
Love it. I've used both the CHI and the got2be heat protectants, but this takes the cake. Very inexpensive, works as both a heat protectant and detangler without weighing hair down or being sticky. The nozzle sprays the product evenly. The smell is inoffensive, and goes away in an hour or two anyway, so it won't interfere with perfume. Recommended!

Conditioner -Suave - Naturals Tropical Coconut Conditioner
historismus 11/15/2012 11:30:00 PM
Within the last year I returned to this conditioner because I wanted to go silicone-free. I can't believe how good it is for the price. My hair is very long and finely textured, and this stuff keeps it smooth, soft, smelling nice, and helps with breakage (a problem I ran into with other silicone-laden hair products). Once or twice a week I use a deep conditioner and/or coconut oil and the routine is working out well for me. Seriously, you don't need expensive hair products!

Moisturizers -Olay - Total Effects Night Firming Cream
historismus 11/15/2012 11:24:00 PM
I'm pretty pleased with this night cream. I can't say that I've noticed a big difference in fine lines - despite that I'm only twenty my skin is very prone to them - but I guess I'm using it more of a preventative anyway. I think that this product has improved the overall appearance of my, skin, though, with regards to uneven texture and tone. It has a pleasant fragrance but I had no problems with irritation. I'm going to try some other night creams and possibly delve into the world of high end skincare, but I would repurchase this as a good drugstore alternative. I wouldn't recommend this to someone with very dry skin, however. Nine out of ten times this is moisturising enough for me, but it doesn't stand up to what Canadian winter does to skin.
