Styling Products -Unlisted Brand - Aqua Net Extra Super Hold Hairspray (aerosol can)

Wow. This product has completely exceeded my expectations. I wish I had discovered it sooner. I randomly thought of Aqua Net one night, and never having used it, I decided to see what MUA users thought of it. I saw two reviews that both stated that it was great for keeping bangs in place. I was immediately intrigued. I have had blunt bangs for a long time. My hair is fine and thin so I do everything I can to keep them looking thick throughout the day without the dreaded "splitting and separating" that can happen as the day goes on. But I don't want "helmet bangs" either. Just natural, thick looking bangs. So I have tried so many hairsprays. From cheapies like Suave and Herbal Essences, to "professional brands" like Bumble and Bumble, Big Sexy Hair, Aveda, Aquage, Sebastian, Redken, Kenra, the list goes on and on and on. L'Oreal Elnett was working pretty well for me, but it was not perfect. Then I bought Aqua Net on a whim at Target for about $2.50. This product does everything I want it to do! It doesn't flake at all and has no scent. Best of all, it really keeps my bangs in place better than any other hairspray I have tried. I don't know why or how, but it does, and I'm sticking with it. For the reviews that state it is too wet, I wonder if they are not holding the can 10-12 inches away from the hair? That is how you are supposed to use hairspray. It is not wet at all when I use it. Yes, if I stick the nozzle right up to my hair and spray, it would be soaking wet. I just can't believe how well this hairspray works. It just goes to show that you just have to find the one product that works perfectly for you. And this hairspray is it for me. It took me forever to find it, but I am so glad I did. I hope others will give this a shot and not let it's cheap price or goofy 80's reputation deter them!

Lipstick -Revlon - Super Lustrous in Blushing Nude (New for Fall '08)
rated 2 of 5
heh8787 4/3/2013 10:34:00 PM

I am so disappointed with this lipstick. I was unable to really see the color I was buying as Revlon lipsticks are sealed which prevents people from taking the cap off. Both a good (hygiene) and a bad thing (hard to tell what color/finish you are actually getting). The swatch on the bottom of the tube and the little bit of color I could see through the clear top looked great so I bought it. Plus, it was cheap. $4.99 at Target. I put it on in the car and loved it. The color was great. Definitely not a "nude", but more of a muted brownish red. Very natural and kind of 90's ish (in a good way). Then I got home and inspected it closer in the mirror. Is that glitter on my lips? Really? Wait...it's ALL OVER my lips...and there's huge chunks of it! I got out the tube and inspected the "cream" formula lipstick. Sure enough, filled with tacky, cheap looking glitter. It's a cream formula! Not a frost or a lustre. What the heck, Revlon? This is my problem with drugstore cosmetics (lipstick and eyeshadow in particular). Huge chunks of glitter is not the same as "shimmer". And if I buy a "cream" lipstick, it should be just that. I am going to return this to Target and try to find something else that is a similar shade but has no glitter. So again, super disappointing because the shade itself is lovely. If you like glitter, knock yourself out with this lipstick!

Pressed Powders -New York Color - Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder in Bronze Glow
rated 5 of 5
heh8787 3/17/2013 1:03:00 AM

I really like this bronzer and have been using it for about 2 years now. I'm not that into bronzers, this is the only one that I have ever purchased and I don't do contouring or any of that. I just wanted something that I could lightly dust on my cheeks and nose to give a bit of glow and color and this is perfect for that. It's inexpensive, easy to apply and wear, and looks very natural. I also love that it doesn't have any shimmer in it!

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Erase paste
rated 2 of 5
heh8787 3/17/2013 12:59:00 AM

I have been using this product for a long time and I have no idea why! I just recently realized that I really don't like this and that it was time to look for something else. I don't know if the skin under my eyes has gotten drier or what, but this concealer looks very cakey and dry and it settles into fine lines that I didn't even know I had and that are not even visible when I don't have any concealer on. That is not good. Plus, the packaging is terrible. The pot is unsanitary and I had to buy a concealer brush in order to use this. This would probably be a good concealer to use on blemishes, but definitely not on under eye circles, which is what I use concealer for.

Concealers -Tarte - Maracuja creaseless concealer
rated 5 of 5
heh8787 3/17/2013 12:55:00 AM

I really like this concealer. It is the best one I have used so far. The skin under my eyes tends to be dry, and this concealer is oily and thick so it is perfect for me. It does what it claims to do, it doesn't crease and provides full coverage. It helps with dark circles, but doesn't erase them completely. It stays on all day. It is worth the price because you only have to use a very small amount. I am a little concerned with the packaging though because it seems like the tube has a lot of air and not a lot of product in it. I have only had this for a week and I have a hard time getting the product out. Despite this, I will definitely repurchase.

Lipstick -NYX - Haute Melon
rated 3 of 5
heh8787 3/17/2013 12:43:00 AM

This was my first NYX lipstick purchase. I wanted to branch out and try a brightly colored lipstick and I saw a review and swatch of this on a blog and it was very pretty. It looks scary in the tube - bright neon orange/pink. But once I applied it, it was still very bright, but a nice coral/pink color. The formula is a bit too sheer and doesn't apply very easily. It has a lot of slip and tends to settle into the lines of my lips. I bought another NYX lipstick with this one and that one is a lot creamier and more fully pigmented. NYX lipsticks are great because they are so inexpensive that you can try out a different shade that you aren't used to and not have to spend a lot of money. I will continue to buy NYX lipsticks, but probably not this shade.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara Waterproof
rated 5 of 5
heh8787 1/22/2013 9:53:00 PM

I love this mascara. I have to use waterproof in order to keep my long, straight lashes curled all day. It is very soft but still manages to hold a curl. It is definitely not as brittle as other mascaras. It thickens and lengthens and removes very easily with makeup remover. I don't have any problems with it smudging. I really love this mascara and hope that it is never discontinued!

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Color Gems
rated 5 of 5
heh8787 1/22/2013 9:48:00 PM

I love L'Oreal Color Gems. I have been using it on and off for years. I started using it about 8 years ago based on the recommendation of a hairdresser. Back then I used 3N. I recently had a hair disaster at a salon. To make a long story short, I was dealing with reddish light/medium brown hair. I wanted to get to a NATURAL looking brown that wouldn't make my very light brown roots very noticeable. After a lot of research and reading reviews, I chose 6N Light Neutral Brown. As far as everyone complaining that the colors turn out darker, you should do a strand test first to see how long you should leave the color on. 20 minutes is recommended in the instructions but that is also the maximum time. I applied a protein filler to my hair first and applied the color with a bowl and brush. I left it on for 10 minutes as my strand test indicated this would be plenty of time. My hair came out perfect. A very nice light/medium neutral brown. It has been about 2 1/2 weeks since I colored and I wash my hair every day with a sulfate free shampoo. I have seen very minimal fading so far. When the demi is applied to color treated hair, it will be more permanent and won't wash completely out. I think a lot of people are mislead by demi permanents and don't understand that using them on color treated hair is much different than using them on virgin hair. I definitely recommended this product to anyone looking to make a subtle change to their hair. I also recommend using a protein filler first to ensure that the color comes out even from root to tip.

Shampoo -TiGi - Bed Head Styleshots Epic Volume Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
heh8787 1/22/2013 9:29:00 PM

The only reason I bought the shampoo and conditioner is because the liters were half off (only $12 each!) at Beauty Brands and I LOVE the way it smells. I used to use Bedhead Superstar shampoo and conditioner and it was scented the exact same. Then they stopped making it. I was so happy to find that Bedhead is basically selling the same exact product only under a different name now, Epic Volume. I can see how the scent isn't for everyone, but I really like it. It smells like strawberry and mint. As far as if the product actually delivers what it claims to do, I'll give some background on my hair first. I have really difficult hair. It is fine and thin and super limp. The ONLY thing that I can do to make it semi manageable, hold any sort of style, and have the tiniest bit of volume is to load up on lots of volumizing product on my wet hair and then blow it dry. It's very annoying. So I have come to the conclusion that the type/brand of shampoo/conditioner makes absolutely no difference in the way my hair looks. In my experience my hair is the exact same whether I use the $1 Suave stuff or $50 Pureology. So when I look for a shampoo and conditioner I usually go for whatever smells the best, makes my hair feel soft and smooth and less staticy, and is the most economical. As far as my needs and what I am looking for in a shampoo/conditioner, Epic Volume is great. It smells awesome and makes my hair soft. It is also sulfate free! Did it create volume in my hair? No. But then again, no shampoo/conditioner ever has. It might give volume on someone with a more fortunate hair situation. I would recommend this based on the scent alone and the fact that you can get them on sale all the time at Beauty Brands and that is a great deal!

Hair Color -Clairol - Nice 'n Easy Non Permanent Colour
rated 1 of 5
heh8787 9/23/2012 5:12:00 PM

I am disappointed with this. My hair is dark brown from a previous coloring. My roots are growing in and are medium golden brown. I bought the Medium Ash Brown to darken my roots. I applied and left it on for the recommended amount of time. Washed and blow dried my hair and there was barely a change at all. The roots were SLIGHTLY darker but still very warm toned. Then a week later, all of the color is gone from the roots and I am back to where I started. Total waste of time and money!

Hair Color -Unlisted Brand - Hair Flairs - Color Rub
rated 4 of 5
heh8787 6/21/2012 11:32:00 PM

I bought mine from Ebay in Teal. I can't find it in any stores. It was about $15.99 which is kind of pricey. Pros: -The color is really bright and shows up amazingly well on dark hair. -It's temporary. It washed right out when I took a shower. Cons: - It's messy. Make sure you drape a towel over your shoulders, wear gloves, and lean over the sink as you rub it in. - It transfers onto hands and fabric. I wouldn't apply it to the underside of hair. If you run your hands through your hair, or mess with your hair a lot, it will transfer onto your hands. You also have to be careful that you don't lie down when you have it in your hair or it will get on the pillow, couch, etc. I followed the instructions on the package. I sprayed the part of my hair that I wanted to apply it to with leave in conditioner/detangling spray. Then I rubbed the color on and I sprayed it with hairspray. I used an old brush and brushed through it a little to make it look nicer. Then I had to wash the brush off. I wish the product wouldn't rub off so easily, it makes me kind of nervous to wear it. But I guess that is the point of it being temporary so it can wash out so easily. I like this product. It's fun. I will continue to use it and I think the application will get easier the more and more I do it.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Sublime Mousse
rated 2 of 5
heh8787 6/5/2012 11:57:00 PM

***UPDATE from my previous review.*** I am not a fan of this haircolor anymore. How do you do a root touch up with this foam? You can't at all. It's not even an option in the instructions. Also, the Pure Darkest Brown has faded in PARTS of my hair and has stayed pretty much jet black in other parts! It looks really bad and uneven now, plus I have visible roots showing through. I won't be using this product again. Any hair color that doesn't educate about "root touch ups" and encourages full head color application every time is really bad. That is horrible for your hair and your ends will end up way darker than your roots (if you are coloring darker like I am).

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara
rated 4 of 5
heh8787 4/19/2012 9:44:00 PM

I like this product. I use the Black Drama Falsies Waterproof. My lashes are very long and don't hold a curl very well. This mascara keeps them curled all day long. It's not too flaky. I actually like that this mascara is a little more of a drier formula than some others because mascaras that are too wet and goopy just weigh my lashes down and end up smudging. This is the best mascara I've tried in a while so I am sticking with it for now.

Brows -Anastasia Of Beverly Hills - Brow Wiz
rated 5 of 5
heh8787 4/19/2012 9:35:00 PM

I love this eyebrow pencil. It is so easy to use and comes with the spooly brush attached it to it. I have dark brown hair and Brunette is the perfect shade for me. This pencil is a lot more natural looking than some other pencils I've tried (CoverGirl, Maybelline, NYC, etc). I guess that is why it is more expensive. It is worth the price in my opinion. I use it every day and the same pencil has lasted me 5 months and I'm still using it. I would definitely recommend spending the extra money on this brow pencil.
