Shampoo -Unlisted Brand - Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy

I bought sample sizes of the Total Care variety at Target, since I wanted to give it a try without buying full size bottles. I have oily roots and dry ends, and am prone to frizz. The shampoo felt like it was stripping my hair, I have never heard it squeak like that before! I didn't shed at all, though. The conditioner is meant to be put on the scalp as well as the ends, which never usually works well for me. So I let it stay on my ends while I finished the rest of my shower, and then added a little to my roots before rinsing. Surprisingly, the conditioner did not leave my hair in knots. I used my usual anti-frizz serum, and as it dried, it did seem a bit more frizzy than normal. I also think it may have stripped some of the color out of my hair, but maybe that's just me, or just this type (I did not use the one designed for color treated hair). My grays did seem more prominent though, despite my hair being quite shiny. My hair did not get greasy during the day, but after going to the gym, my roots look a lot more oily than normal. UPDATE 6/15/12: I will not be repurchasing this. While my hair was moderately oily this morning, which is normal for me as I have to was it every day? In the shower, my hair felt parched, not nourished. It was straw like and felt unhealthy when wet. So I used my regular shampoo and a deep conditioner, and it is back to normal, with minimal frizz and lots of shine! So yes, this is a dud for me.

Hair Color -Garnier - Herbashine

Since I am back to my natural color (thanks to Nutrisse #30 Sweet Cola), I wanted to cover my couple of (very white) gray hairs without having to use a permanent dye. After looking at the semi-permanent choices at Target, I decided on Herbashine #430 Sweet Lager (dark golden brown). I liked that I could use it on dry hair, and since Nutrisse is a brand I love, I figured I would give it a try. It was easy to apply, didn't drip too much and didn't stain my skin or counter tops. I left it in for 15 minutes, rinsed it in the shower, and used the included conditioner which I left on my hair for five minutes. I did shed quite a bit in the shower, but that is normal when I dye my hair. As for the color: I love it! It's very dark brown with dark red tones, and looks gorgeous. It didn't cover all my grays, but that's fine, as it's blended in enough for me. A perfect chocolate brown color! Also, my hair feels very silky and healthy. The only reason I am not giving five lippies is because the conditioner is a single use packet, and not a multi-use tube. I will update in a few weeks on how long the color stays.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Sublime Mousse
rated 4 of 5

I used this in #41 Iced Dark Brown about four weeks ago, and I am still pleased with the results! The color is very similar to Garnier Nurtisse #415 Raspberry Truffle: a dark brown (almost black) with red/plum highlights. I don't get all the bad reviews, as I found this to be very easy to use, and the color has stayed quite well without much fade. Most of my grays are still covered as well. I would definitely get this color again! EDIT: This faded to an inky black color that I am STILL trying to get lighter. I'm back to Garnier Nutrisse, as I've gotten compliments on how shiny my hair looks when I use it.

Hair -Sacha Cosmetics - Sally - Hair One Hair Cleanser and Conditioner
rated 1 of 5

I bought several samples of this, and really wanted to like it. I have hair that gets greasy at the roots, so I have to shampoo often, and my hair gets frizzy really fast. This made my hair look all right the first day, but it felt like I was using a cheap conditioner, and my hair wasn't soft feeling at all with this product. The next day, my hair felt like straw at the ends and the roots were like an oil slick. Overall, I was disappointed, because every time I try to go sulfate free, my hair gets icky and nasty. I guess I need the detergents to keep my hair clean. My mother also tried this, her hair is dry, baby fine and 100 percent gray. She also said that her hair was nowhere near as soft as usual when she used this, and didn't hold a style as well as when she uses regular volumizing shampoo. We both followed the directions to the letter, and neither of us had good results. Both of us went back to our usual products.

Hair Color -Clairol - Nice 'n Easy Perfect 10
rated 3 of 5
harleen1 6/23/2010 11:50:00 AM

I really wanted to like this product, and I sort of do. It left my hair a little dry (which I expected since I would think a 10 minute processing time would equal more intensity with developing), but a good deep condition the next day solved that. My main problem with it is that it didn't cover my grays at all, and the few that it did turned purple. (I am less than 5 percent gray, but as my hair is dark, they stand out.) I used Light Chocolate Brown (6WN), and it came out dark brown with purplish highlights, which was darker than expected but very pretty. However, now (two weeks later) the purple is fading to an orangey color. This would be good for someone with no grays who wants to go darker. It's too bad, because my hair was left in good condition and it only took 10 minutes.

I swear by this. It's the only thing that will get rid of my tangles guaranteed, and I have tried every leave in conditioner out there. It smells great and is worth the price. I will never stray from this again! HG product for me!

Gels/Soaps -Unlisted Brand - Dial AntiOxidant Cranberry Glycerin Soap
rated 4 of 5
harleen1 6/6/2009 12:49:00 PM

I love this soap. It smells great, not overwhelming, and doesn't melt as much as some glycerin soaps do. My skin is oily, so it's not drying, and it's not overly moisturizing either; it's just the right balance for me. Plus the price is right, about $2.00 for a three pack at Wal-Mart. I will get this again even though I know those three bars will go a long way!

Conditioner -Pantene - Brunette Expressions Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
harleen1 5/27/2009 11:26:00 PM

I just LOVE this conditioner! It leaves my hair silky and I can get away with using very little of it with good results. It actually detangles as well, and almost nothing I use does that! Definite HG product for me.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Excellence Creme
rated 5 of 5
harleen1 5/27/2009 9:28:00 PM

I keep going back to this product despite some mixed results. The dark brown was black and inky in my hair, and I would not recommend it. It looked like someone dumped a bottle of black ink on my head! Red Penny faded to an orange-y color that I wasn't fond of. However, the Medium Maple Brown looked gorgeous in my hair, a very nice medium/dark brown with red undertones. I recently had my long hair cut into a just below the chin-length bob, and the color I was using (Ion's medium intense red) didn't look right with it for some reason. I tried Ion's dark burgundy brown instead, but that faded within two weeks despite using shampoo and conditioner for brunette hair. So in an effort to fix this, I tried Excellence Dark Chocolate Brown #4AR. So far, it's just what I wanted! A rich, very dark chocolate brown with some burgundy tones, I love it! So long as it doesn't fade too much, I may have found a new HG color! The conditioner that comes with this is wonderful. The pre-treatment would make the color 'grab' more at the ends for some reason, and I would end up with ends that were darker than the rest of my hair. This time, I skipped the treatment and went straight for the dye, and did not have that problem! I would recommend this except for the dark brown unless you want gothic solid black. I will update about how the Dark Chocolate Brown fades.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Feria Haircolor
rated 3 of 5
harleen1 5/27/2009 9:12:00 PM

I have had mixed results with Feria in the past, and it can be drying to my hair. However, I tried #45 French Roast (deep bronzed brown) a few months back, and that particular shade is so gorgeous! It comes out a dark brown with lots of red and gold highlights, and does fade a little, but not too much. My natural color is very dark brown, and my roots are actually not noticeable for a good three months, they blend in so well. I dyed my hair red for years but was sick of having to touch up my roots all the time. This gives me enough red to be happy, without having to touch up all the time. It's also a color I can't seem to find in other brands, even at Sally's (nothing else seems to be just this shade). I do have to deep condition after using this product, but since my roots are not too noticeable for a while, it makes up for it. It also has a lot of dimension and doesn't look flat and monotone like most hair colors do. Edit: The new conditioner that comes with the dye leaves my hair a tangled mess. I wish they would bring the old one back! I still love Feria, but am trying other things now. I knocked off two lippies for the conditioner.

Conditioner -Unlisted Brand - Colorgen
rated 3 of 5
harleen1 2/9/2009 3:07:00 PM

This conditioner had a good consistency and a wonderful scent. However, it left my hair in knots, and I had to use a ton of detangler to get them out. My hair felt crunchy and not at all conditioned, which was a shame, because I do like the shampoo. The search continues for a good HG conditioner...

Treatments -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Creme Serum Overnight Repair Formula [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
harleen1 5/20/2008 2:53:00 PM

I tried this for the first time last night. My hair feels softer and smoother after using it, and it was not greasy at all. My hair has some damage from dyeing it, and it's still a little frizzy, but not as bad as normal (and I live in South Florida, so I always look like a Q-Tip with the frizz). I wouldn't say that I have perfect Hollywood hair or anything, but it works pretty well. I will update after using it a few more times, to give a better opinion.

Conditioner -Clairol - Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship
rated 3 of 5
harleen1 2/16/2008 12:23:00 AM

I love the smell and the consistency, and it does make my hair look nice. However, it doesn't detangle my hair at all, and I have to use a second conditioner with it or I will have knots that are impossible to get out! I know I can find something else that makes my hair look just as nice that will also take out the knots.

Hair Color -Clairol - Herbal Essences Hair Color [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
harleen1 10/24/2007 4:18:00 PM

I tried this in Paint the Town, it was on sale and I had a coupon. I wanted to brighten my very dark auburn hair a bit. I have tried just about every brand there is, and this was the most messy, drippy color I have ever used. It got everywhere! Also, the color turned bright clown red on my head, so I rinsed it off after only ten minutes. I used a different conditioner than the one this came with, since I didn't want anything 'color amplifying' on my hair, so I can't say how that is. Overall, the color is a shade more red, but not much, given how quickly I took it off. Nutrisse and Feria have similar shades, so I will not repurchase.
