Pressed Powders -Cover Girl - CoverGirl Queen Collection Lasting Matte Pressed Powder
haikusamurai 5/28/2013 2:55:00 PM
Cover Girl Queen Collection Lasting Matte Pressed Powder in the gorgeous, golden brown or tan color : "405: Light Golden" as a bronzer or blush for my NC25 light olive skin. Very happy with it! Praise God. If you are in the Kim Kardashian skincolor family, this will work for you! It's that whole, "wow, that is a beautiful cheek color, is is apricot? peach? i can't tell!" -- It's this lovely color that makes you look soooooo healthy and beautiful. One star subtracted because I want to be SURE this doesn't break out my sensitive skin. But I see NO WAX, NO CORNSTARCH, so that is why this is a GOOD choice for me. I have been looking all over for something like this....and thank you and congratulations to my African American sisters for getting Cover Girl to make something in the proper shades for non-Caucasian Americans....WOO! Been here long enough in this country, damn. Anyhow, if you are looking for a Cargo dupe for a tan, I bet this is it! :) I actually have not swatched next to Cargo, but if I find myself in Sephora, I will definitely do so.

Liquid -Urban Decay - Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup
haikusamurai 3/5/2013 1:26:00 PM
Olive skinned women....there are lots of us....ahem.... middle eastern, asian, latin, southern european... portugese, brazilian, turkish, ecuadorian, italian, indian, pakistani, arab, lebanese, afghan, tajik, mexican, guatemalan....get my point? and we olive skinned women are IGNORED by every single makeup brand out there! I need a foundation that MATCHES, COVERS, and DOESN'T break me out. This does all those things. THANK YOU SO MUCH, URBAN DECAY!!! <3 I have the SHADE 4.0.........it MATCHES for a Light Olive woman. HOLY GRAIL. For reference, the MAC NC 25 is "similar" but even MAC colors suck in comparison. They are mostly orange or white. Not kidding. I have samples. Only downer--- $$$. Naked Skin is forty dollars, plus tax. But considering nothing else comes close....if this was ever discontinued, I would clear out my bank account to pay for it. Seriously, if you ever even think about it, I will buy every last case. CALL ME. ;) Amendment: Does look white in flash photos. So, not a good choice for picture day. Does wear off relatively quickly (but hey, it doesn't clog pores! fair trade off in my opinion.)

Eye Shadow -NYX - Black
haikusamurai 12/10/2011 5:09:00 AM
Pros: Dark black, matte. Cons: FALL OUT galore! UGH! Hate it! I have a L'oreal Black that was probably just about the same price and has WAYYYY less fall out. Its a little less black, but has way less fall out. I even got an LA Girls single from Dollar Tree (glitter in pan, not on eyes) that is better. Grrr. Wasted of $4 + tax.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - De La Cruz 10% Sulfur Ointment
haikusamurai 5/28/2011 6:53:00 PM
De La Cruz Pomada de Azufre (10% Sulfur Ointment) Sulfur has been used since the time of the Greeks for acne. IT WORKS. When my skin is angry, this calms it way down. This is way, way better than topical OTC Acnomel (which has alcohol, terrible for your skin!). This particular sulfur formula is awesome. Got if for super cheap at Food Maxx, with the other "Mexican" personal care products. Like, $5.00. Used at night, and very lightly under makeup on a bad spot. Other tips: avoid processed soy (it has estrogen, which exacerbates acne) -- boca burgers, tofu, etc.) and also eliminate dairy from your diet.

Palettes -Unlisted Brand - profusion Trendsetter Colorbook
haikusamurai 3/29/2011 5:00:00 PM
Item here: http://www.profusioncosmetics.com/product_info.php?pName=trendsetter-colorbook-in-croc&cName=coloring-book Profusion Colorbook Palette: 40 Eyeshadow (mini) 4 Larger eyeshadows 20 Pan Lip Color 4 Blushes 4 Face Powder Also comes with: 2 Lip Brush 2 Eyeshadow Applicators 1 Blush Brush Found this for under $10 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. An absolute BARGAIN palette, really recommend! Faves: the medium and dark shadows are really lovely, dark pigmented, stay-in-place metallics. Four of the eyeshadows are "supersized."My fave is the metallic champagne, very work appropriate. One of the four blushes is pretty, another two are like bronzers/contouring shades. All the glosses are nice. Not Faves: All the applicators suck. Buy disposables to go with them. The 6-8 lightest shadows are chalky and unusable. That's fine, because you are getting a sizable range of colors that are very pretty for hardly anything. And yes, the are smaller, but really, how often do you reach for hot pink? Not if you have an office job! Totally worth my $10. ;)

Hair Color -Garnier - Nutrisse Permanent Creme Hair Color
haikusamurai 1/16/2011 1:00:00 PM
#535 Chocolate Caramel on my healthy, virgin, near black hair... 1) No frying! YAY!!!!!!! Does seem a little more prone to frizz now, but but that's because its foggy as heck right now. 2) No bad smell while applying, but my hair still smells like dye 2 days later. Can live with it, but it does make me want to wear more perfume. 3) I did make sure to super-condition (I have like 3 conditioners, hehe) so that probably contributes to the still very, very good condition my hair is in its in. 4)COLOR: No major color change ie no significant lift from virgin "soft black" hair. I wanted to get a chestnut, chocolate brown, but I will just need to suck it up and get another two boxes in a lighter color come March. But I knew I that, I had selected this color MONTHS ago when I was more concerned about re-growth and looking obvious. Its definitely subtle! >>>If you want to get to BROWN from virgin BLACK, you need to pick up boxes of RED hair color. I know this from previous experience.

Treatments -Acne.org - Treatment
haikusamurai 10/21/2010 2:06:00 PM
GENERAL REVIEW: I am a sensitive, oily/combination, acne-prone skin person. Let me tell you, Dan's Regamine would dry my skin to all hell. And flake it to bits. Why? Because its a ridiculous overload! Think about Neutrogena On-The-Spot, and ProActive (same active ingredient, 2.5% BP). Both do their jobs, and they use way, way, less BP. But I want to use a nickle size drop 2.5% over my whole face every night (except days I am dry and flaking; then it will just be dabbed into problem areas) for a reasonable price. So I just purchased this as a tube mid October 2010 I intend to use for TWO YEARS or so. Not 1 month, as he suggests 8 fl oz should last me. Are you kidding? On with the show.... Product: "Acne.org's Treatment" - 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide Status: New purchase. This is a huuuge 8 fl oz (almost 240 mL) tube of 2.5% BP. A major bargain compared to ProActive (which is basically 2.5% BP + Glycolic Acid (AHA). Half the price of Paula's Choice's piddly little 2.25 fl oz. (67mL) 2.5% BP product. Differences: After 1 night of use: Yes, I do notice a difference of Paula's Choice. Dan's formula makes my eyes water, and has a bit of grit to it. Strange, but not alarming. Paula's doesn't have either of those. I am past my period, so mostly little bumps here and there. Next AM, seems improved. Just dabbed problem spots before makeup application. After 1 Week: Wasn't consistent due to travel. After 1 Month: Starting consistent. After 3 Months: HMMM!!!!! MAJOR PROBLEMO FOLKS!! I went from some of the clearest skin i ever had to BREAKING OUT EVERYWHERE. Its a medium fine whitehead almost all over my face. And its a different variation than I've ever had. Very weird!!!! So I am suspecting that this product HATES my skin. I am thinking I need to go back to Paula's stuff...pronto. I don't eat soy, and I've been avoiding cheese. So this is the culprit. At least my 12 year old sister's acne is responding well to this, so I am passing it on to her. Back to the $$ for me, I guess.

Polishes -Wet 'n' Wild - megalast nail color - Sugar Coat
haikusamurai 10/8/2010 12:47:00 AM
Yes, a lovely pale pink cream shade....and the worst, crappiest cheapest consistency! Very opaque. This totally exaggerating the ridges in my nails (weird!), takes forever to dry, and looks uneven and blotchy. Worst $1.97 ever spent at Walmart. Very disappointed. Got myself to CVS and went with a $2 Confetti Brand nail polish in a baby pink shade. This one is translucent and layers very nicely. Elegant and natural. Go Confetti! ;)
