Lipstick -Kevyn Aucoin - The Rouge Hommage in Dreamin'
rated 5 of 5

Dreamin' is another of the Rouge Hommage lipstick line that Kevyn Aucoin developed in tribute to the iconic Ultima Nakeds products he launched in the early 90's. All eight shades are nudes, and all are very easy to wear. Dreamin' is a warm pink, giving a smooth shot of color. It is not as neutral or pale as ThelmaDora or as girly as Falon in his other line. Soft, but grown-up.

This worked well as a moisturizer, but unfortunately, the smell bothered me so much I had to stop using it.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Eye Shadow in Steel

I'm too pale to use this wet as a liner, but applied judiciously and well-blended on the outer corners of my eyelids, it somehow makes my blue-gray eyes look bluer. I love that this is a warm gray; it tones well with my very light, warm-toned skin. As others have noted, it wouldn't work on cool-toned skin.

Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin Anti Wrinkle Anti Blemish Cream
rated 5 of 5

I've tried many other moisturizers, but I always come back to this. Does exactly what it says, and at reasonable cost. Makes my skin look smoother and fresher, and keeps the zits away. My skin has always been oily, and although I'm now in my (very) late 40s, I still have breakouts if I'm not vigilant. This takes care of them before they start. The cream's light fresh scent is an extra bonus.

Lipstick -Kevyn Aucoin - Expert Lip Tint ThelmaDora

This is the perfect neutral if you are fair-skinned. When your eye makeup is the focus of your look, this gives your lips a finished look without diverting attention from your eyes. Nice for understated natural looks too. The color is given as "rosy nude" and that's very accurate. I also like to use this over brighter/darker lipstick when I want to tone it down a little. KA has also switched over to sleeker lipstick tubes, which is nice.

Foundations -Maybelline - Dream Matte Mousse

I loved this product at first. It had good coverage, smooth application, and the price was right. Sadly, within a month I had spreading red flaky patches I had never seen before. They took a long time to go away. Into the trash it goes.

Fragrances -Etro - Messe De Minuit

Yes, there's incense, but not the cathedral kind -- the spooky castle crypt kind, combined with spice and a hint of unsettling musk. I think this might be the most Goth fragrance I've ever smelled. Perfect for Halloween night, for visiting a dark club, or just transporting yourself out of the everyday. And don't even think about wearing any color except deepest black or blood red while scented with this (preferably both).

Fragrances -Penhaligon's - Violetta

Smells exactly like English violets, which I discovered with delight on a visit there. (What a shame that American violets are scentless!). A quiet, well-bred fragrance, with a soft drydown.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Miller et Bertaux 3 green green green and green
rated 4 of 5

This is unusual for a green scent in that it is completely free of the pungent "men's aftershave" note that mars so many women's perfumes of this genre. The bay leaf note is very assertive and unusual. A little peppery, a little sweet but not floral, and above all, GREEN.

Fragrances -Diptyque - Olene

This should be renamed Syringa, because the scent is a perfect recreation of that flower (Philadelphus lewisii), also known as mock orange. Lighter than orange blossom, with a honeysuckle note. It immediately brings back warm summer days, with white blossoms along woodland paths breathing forth their sweetness.

Serene and calming. A contemplative fragrance. Great if you are doing serious studying or writing. Also nice to ease you into sleep. Sandalwood and other woody notes, dry and soothing.

Fragrances -Pacifica - Tahitian Gardenia Perfume
rated 2 of 5

I hate to rain on this product's parade, but .... The first notes were lovely, bright gardenia, but then a huge sillage monster roared in with a chemical floral blast that morphed into Juicy Fruit gum on steroids. Within a half-hour I went to scrub it off. Dishwashing liquid didn't do the trick, so I resorted to rubbing alcohol. I'll give it two lippies for the low price. Hopefully, your mileage will vary.

Fragrances -Diptyque - Eau de Lierre

Really does smell like freshly picked ivy. No sweetness at all, but wafts forth a green scent like a walk in the woods in the northeastern U.S., where you step on trailing ivy vines every few feet. If you're not a fan of floral fragrances, but enjoy natural scents, this is worth a try.

Fragrances -Frederic Malle - Une Rose
rated 5 of 5

Deep, deep rose. Would be perfect with a crimson velvet gown and a ruby necklace. Romantic, seductive, simply the darkest, most voluptuous rose perfume there is.

The lilac note is beautiful, but too sweet, although the cucumber is perfect. Reminded me too much of Glade air freshener for me to enjoy wearing it.
