Hair -Farouk CHI - Infra Texture Hairspray

wow, what a hunk of junk. I use the chi straightener, so when I ran out of my regular hairspray, my husband thought i'd like this one. the only good thing about it is it's a very fine mist. but theres NO HOLD AT ALL!! I know this hairspray doesn't claim to have maximum hold, but theres NONE! what's the point! so when I use it, all it does is droop my hair. smells nice, but it's garbage!

Moisturizers -La Prairie - Skin Caviar Luxe Cream for face
rated 5 of 5
gurlypowa 3/27/2013 2:58:00 AM

this cream works very well for me. I am in my mid 30's and had been on Accutane which although cleared up my skin, it left it feeling patchy, dry and dull. this cream was able to transform my skin, making it soft, supple and radiant, without breaking me out. it feels luxurious to the touch, and you don't need a lot to cover your face. it is important to remember that like a lot of beauty products, it will work wonders for some skins (I would recommend it for those with mature, dry skin) and may be terrible for others ( it may not work well for youthful, oily skin). my forehead became flaky from the Accutane, but this cream corrected that within the FIRST use. my biggest complaint, other than the price is the smell. it's very perfumey and i'd rather my skin creams to be light scented or have no scent at all.

Foundations -Sisley - Skinle˙a
rated 3 of 5

the Sisley sales associate gave me a few generous samples of this. I was quite disappointed in this. it's an ok foundation, but for the price, I was expecting a much nicer finish. comparing it to the phyto oil free foundation I found the skinleya one to be less luminous, and did not cover my pores as much. it did cover my imperfections slightly better than the phyto one, but the phyto one can be layered. I wasn't crazy about the smell either. it kinda smelled like Chinese medicine for stomach aches. im not sure about the antiaging ability since I only used it for a few weeks.

Cleansers -Cle de Peau - Gentle Cleansing Foam
rated 5 of 5
gurlypowa 1/17/2013

hmmm im in big trouble. i knew i shouldnt have bought this cleanser lest i become addicted to it. now i don't want to use anything else!! thankfully, only a tiny amount (about a pea size) is required to produce the most luxurious lather ive ever experienced in a face cleanser. i used to have acne, but since i was on accutane about 2 yrs ago, my skin has become very very dry. i find that most dry skin cleansers leave a film over my face, so it doesnt feel entirely clean. CDP's cleanser leaves my skin squeaky clean!! with no tightness at all! it's also got a nice pleasant scent. it's pretty much everything i've ever wanted in a cleanser, except the price.

Polishes -Sephora - Sephora by OPI Wild About Shimmer
rated 5 of 5

very shimmery! i love it! i dont normally wear nailpolish, just because i have 2 small kids, so i dont have the time to put it on, wait for it to dry, and i wash my hands alot. but i fell in love when i tried this on at Sephora. i LOVE glittery stuff but when i used to use glittery polish, the glitter wouldn't come on evenly, and for some reason made my nails look like i was in kindergarten. this nailpolish has a lot of shimmer to it, and the shimmery stuff applies very evenly to the nail. love it!

Treatments (Eye) -La Prairie - Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Lift Cream
rated 4 of 5
gurlypowa 7/1/2012 3:30:00 AM

ive been using this for about 4 years now, and im 34 years old. i find that this does help with my eye area - i don't have any wrinkles, and i can actauly feel it "doing something" to my eye area the second it apply it - this may be the cause of irritation in some people. i dont think i have particularly sensitive skin, so it works well for me, and gives me radiant looking eye area.

Liquid -Sisley - Phyto Tient Eclat Oil-Free Foundation
rated 5 of 5
gurlypowa 6/26/2012 2:31:00 AM

FINALLY! omg, ive been YEARS searching for the perfect foundation, and after trying countless numbers of different high end foundations (ive been searching for over 10 years, always buying different high end brands, and only would rebuy brands out of desperation that i needed a foundation even though i wasn't completely happy with it!) i had thought i'd found my HG when SK II air touch came out, but sadly that had been discontinued. but i think Sisley's phyto tient is actually better because u dont have to wait 10 min for it to set! i love everything about this foundation. i love texture. its light and liquidy, but it covers quite well, and matte. my large pores on my nose seem to dissapear with this on. it stays on for hours and hours, and holds up VERY well to humidity. it doesnt cake up, tho i've only used small amounts (about 1 1/2 pumps for my face). with all the other brands i've tried (other than the SKII air touch) the first thing i'd want to do once i got home was scrub my makeup off - i hated the greasy mask like feel of foundation, especially after a long, humid day. with Sisley's i can't even feel it on, and i'll wear it till i go to bed at night! also, it doesnt transfer. i can pat my cheeks with my hands and i dont get that creamy, greasy feel i get with the other foundations. it also comes off well with just soap and water. my other foundations used to show on my cotton pad when i used toner after i washed my face. Pricey, but oh so awesome.

Lip Gloss -Sisley - Glossy Gloss in Grenadine
rated 3 of 5
gurlypowa 6/26/2012 2:05:00 AM

not too crazy about this one, which is a shame because I'm a huge fan of Sisley products in general. It's not terrible, but I don't know why this lipgloss costs twice as much as other high end lipglosses (eg. Guerlain, Chanel). there is nothing extraordinary about it. I have a lipgloss by La Prairie, which is similar in price point to Sisley's, so I'd like to compare the two. Packaging: Sisley Glossy Gloss: plain old plastic. seriously could be mistaken for something by Mabeline, it looks THAT cheap. La Prairie lip gloss: comes in a sleek shiny silver tube with a cutout window so you can see the gloss inside, and how much you have left. I've had it in my dirty makeup bag for months and it's still shiney and doesn't get scratched up. pigment: Sisley: very subtle. theres pretty blue sparkles in it, but you can hardly tell they are there. I usually wear it on top of a lipstick. La Prairie: I use this one on it's own. the color is still sheer, but it's got enough pigment to wear on its own. it also has more noticeable glitter. wearability: I know all the reviews say that Sisley's is not sticky, it does feel nice compared to cheap lipglosses, but compared to La prairie, I actually found Sisley's to be less comfortable. Sisley's reminded me of Guerlain's lipglosses, which are half the price. on the up side, I think Sisley's lasts longer than La Prairie's. Application: I prefer Sisely's brush applicator to La Prairie's sponge applicator. I find brushes are more precise.

Blush -By Terry - Rose de Rose Sheer Liquid Blush
rated 4 of 5
gurlypowa 6/4/2012 1:53:00 PM

i bought 4 of these when Sephora discontinued carrying By Terry and had their whole line on for 50%!! im on my second bottle right now. so the great things about these are that the color is amazing, and adds a very nice, sheer glow to your face. its very very pigmented, so you only need like, a grain of rice sized drop for BOTH cheeks combined! the staying power is amazing as well. the cons- i hate the packaging. it comes in a pump bottle, and its really hard to get the amount you want. also, sometimes a clump comes out, even though i use it every day, and this is a waste of a lot of product. i also dont find it as blendable as powder foundations but maybe because i suck at applying it lol

Lip Gloss -La Prairie - Cellular Lip Colour Effects
rated 5 of 5
gurlypowa 6/3/2012 12:59:00 AM

omg. i just tried this at the counter today. IT IS HEAVENLY. BEST BEST BEST lipgloss ive ever tried. i tried the winter cranberry and it looked absolutely stunning. i love red lipglosses but i prefer them to be translucent in color (great for the summer) because i find that if theres TOO much pigment, red can look overdone. this shade was perfect. the texture was to die for... not to sticky and very moisturizing. you can tell it's a luxury product the moment it touches your lips. and the shimmer... OoooooOOoooOoo amazing amazing shimmer. i seriously felt like a fairy after i put this on. i used to love NARS and Guerlain lip glosses. but now that ive tried this one, im not so crazy about those other ones! my one complaint? i prefer lip brushes to lip sponges. i find that it gives a more precise application. and yea, the price is crazy (50 bucks at Holt Renfrew) but once i tried this, i fell in love - im gonna go pick one up tomorrow.

Highlighters -Guerlain - Les Meteorites balls powder
rated 3 of 5
gurlypowa 6/2/2012 4:08:00 AM

i remember when i was a teenager walking thru department stores, these little balls ALWAYS intrigued me, and i would long for the day i had enough money to buy them! when i got older, i did some searching online, and was excited to purchase them after reading all the great reviews. and im kinda dissapointed!!! the product itself is alright - it adds quite a lot of shimmer to your face. im not sure if i love that look... i rather get a nice glow from a good foundation rather than shimmery glitter from these balls. but it's still very pretty if you like that look. my biggest complaint is the PACKAGING. o god, the packaging. a cardboard box? really?? for that amount of money?? the top can be VERY hard to open, sometimes it gets stuck and you really have to YANK it out, resulting in lots of glittery powder flying thru the air and landing on your shirt which hopefully, is not black. one time, i yanked really hard and it was seriously stuck... and the container fell apart on me. so now i have these pretty little balls in a ziplock bag. i just expected a better container for something that was so expensive and so hyped up.

Hair -Nioxin - Nioxin Recharging Complex Vitamin Supplement
rated 5 of 5
gurlypowa 5/15/2012 2:28:00 AM

wow, i can't eblieve how well this worked for me. ever since i was 15, ive wanted to grow my hair as long as possible, but always ended up having to cut it because it got so dry if i didnt cut it regularly. a few years ago, i tried this, and i finally was able to get my hair down to the legnth i desired without having to skip cuts! even my hairdresser commented on how long my hair grew, and she's been cutting my hair for over 10 years. maybe it doesnt work for everyone, but for me it did wonders.

Hair Styling Tools -Farouk CHI - Chi Ceramic Flat Iron by Farouk
rated 4 of 5
gurlypowa 5/15/2012 2:13:00 AM

im on my second chi straightening iron right now. (i dont remember what happend to the first one, was it lost or broke?). this is the only high end straightner ive ever used, but let me tell you, it is WAAAAY better than any of the cheaper brands you buy at the drug store. it heats up almost instantly, and transforms my crinkly, frizzy hair into the smooth shiny hair i've always wanted. when i first started using it, i got compliments from nearly everyone i knew. some said i looked like i just stepped out of a salon!! it's so easy to use, and the results are quick, you wont find yourself redoing each chunk of hair 982357 times to achieve the desired look, since it heats up so much hotter than the cheap irons. i also found it very easy to do ringlets, tho i usually just run it down in a slight curve, and hook it at the end (this adds more volume than just doing it poker straight). it does a great job, so i may repurchase, tho im also consider trying one of the other expensive brands. GHD maybe?

Eye Shadow -By Terry - Silky Eye Shadow
rated 5 of 5
gurlypowa 5/15/2012 1:41:00 AM

beautiful shadows!!! Sephora decided to discontinue the by terry line so i got a buttload of these for half the price!! im using 3 colors right now, and i bought 6 eyeshadows. they are VERY blendable, and do stay on all day for me, even without a primer. Coffee Bean is pigmented enough to be used as a liner, and is great for that purpose beacuse its easy to adjust the intensity of the line. (i use a darker line for my top lashes, and a very light, barely there line for my bottom. hands down the best quality eyeshadows ive ever used. my one complaint is the packaging. like i said, im only using 3 of the 6 i've bought, and for 2 of them, the eyeshadows popped off the container!! this happend within 2 weeks of purchase, and i didnt even drop them!!! the eyeshadows didn't crack, thank goodness, but still, what the hell, $40 bucks for a single shadow they could have at least used better packaging.
