Liquid -Rimmel - Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation

I can't believe I've only just discovered this foundation. I bought the shade 200 which is probably the best match for my NC30 light-medium olive skintone. This really DOES last as long as it says it does but without the cakey heavy feeling you would expect from a product with promises like this. Be mindful that this is a slightly drier formulation with medium to full coverage so best to use it on freshly moisturised skin and if possible over a primer too otherwise it can tend to settle into fine lines and dry patches. I took off one lippy because I hate the cheap looking plastic tube. I wish it was presented in a pump style glass bottle instead. Price: $17.99 AUD. I would purchase this again.

Shampoo -Jason Natural Cosmetics - Dandruff Relief Dandruff Shampoo
rated 1 of 5

I originally purchased a bottle for my husband through a seller on ebay who sold many natural products. My husband has a chronic itchy, sensitive, flaky scalp and we are always on the hunt for good haircare that helps his condition. The first bottle I bought was nothing short of a miracle, I noticed it had a potent herbal smell and a yellowish colour. My husband raved about it, it cleared his condition up and people even commented that his hair was growing back!! Excited by this I went on Ebay and purchased 6 more bottles. No mean feat as they were $10 USD each plus I paid over $40 for airmail from the USA here to Australia. I haven't seen Jason anywhere here so buying it online was my only option. After using another bottle my husband started complaining of an itchy red scalp again and said the shampoo "no longer works". My Mum who I gave a bottle to said the same thing!! Perplexed I checked the bottle, gone was the potent scent and I also noticed the colour had changed from yellowish to white! The ingredients listed on the sticker on the front are also quite different to what is listed in the actual ingredients list. I now have many useless bottles just sitting here. I am wondering if Jason has changed formulation at any stage? If so the newer formulation is vastly inferior. PLEASE revert back to the original formula!!

Lip Gloss -NARS - Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in Happy Days
rated 4 of 5
goldensyrup 5/29/2011 9:58:00 PM

I have three of these pencils in Hopi, New Lover and Happy Days. This one would have to be my fave of the three. Hopi is a warm orangey bronze, New Lover is supposed to be pink infused with gold but I find it too cool toned for me. I'm MAC NC30 and have light olive skin so the peachy coral tones of Happy Days really suits me. People have mentioned that they need to keep sharpening these pencils but I find the opposite. I've used each around 6 times and haven't needed to sharpen yet. The glossy sheen is out of this world without being sticky or too wet and goopy as most traditional lip glosses can feel on the lips. I just love these but would like these to be in a chubby lip balm style wind up tube instead of a chubby pencil. Please NARS!

Blush -E.L.F. - Studio Blush in Candid Coral
rated 3 of 5

This is just ok. I know it has been compared to other high end blushes such as NARS Orgasm but this is very very different in my opinion and people need to be aware of that before purchasing even if this is only $3. Where Orgasm is quite pink this is more peach and much more shimmery and doesn't show up nearly as well. Also where NARS blushes are quite pigmented I found this one to be less so and and the texture a little soft and crumbly :( Still what can one expect for $3??? Not a bad product but based on the fact that the colour didn't show up on my NC30 skintone I don't think I would purchase it again.

Liquid -Lancome - Teint Miracle

Hhhhmmmm, had VERY high expectations for this but I'm sad to say that this has been a bit of a let down given the good reviews and the claim that it was "ten years in the making". First of all, the coverage is poor, I would say it's more akin to a tinted moisturiser and unfortunately I was unable to "build" any coverage. After applying with care I could still see discolourations and redness around my nose peeking through :( By midday, I was stunned when out for lunch with some friends I caught sight of myself in the bathroom mirror and had an oily sheen over my WHOLE face. I haven't seen that since I was a teenager..... The only redeeming thing about this is the lovely bottle. Back to my trusty Bourjois Bio Detox foundation.

This is seriously one of the best foundations I've ever tried and I have tried a LOT so that's saying something. First of all to address all the bad reviews here I can't stress enough that you MUST use this on well moisturised, hydrated skin. If you try and slap this over just your freshly washed face you are asking for trouble... I like that this is predominantly water based and not loaded with horrible silicones like most foundations are these days. I find that if you ensure your skin is well hydrated you shouldn't have any trouble applying this. I like to just pat this on with the pads of my fingers, it is quite pigmented so you won't need much at all. You can layer this too which I like as it allows you to add more coverage where you need it without it looking caked on. This lasts all day on me, never balls up like silicone based foundations and doesn't clog my pores at all. For reference, I use MAC NC 30 and chose this foundation in #53 which is Beige Clair/Light Beige. AUD $35.

Foundations -Maybelline - Dream Matte Mousse

Not a fan of this at all! Firstly the colours were a little "off" for me, I just couldn't find a good colour and settled for the closest match which turned out to have a pinkish/peach undertone. Secondly, I just don't appreciate the texture, it's creamy in the pot then just feels kind of waxy and dry on my skin, seems to settle into dry patches and fine lines and gives an all over "fake" look. Lastly, I hate the pot and the fact that I have to screw it off to reveal the foundation yet lift up a convenient flap for the sponge???? Allover an unsuccessful product that seems a little banged up and not very well engineered. I wish I could just return this but I can't so will just suck it up.

Blush -NARS - Sex Appeal
rated 1 of 5

Very disappointed in this. I just can't get this to show up on my skin at all, it's just far too pale and kind of chalky looking. Absolutely useless blush unless you are snow white.
Up for swap it goes!!

Styling Products -Oscar Blandi - Pronto Gloss Instant Glossing Cream
rated 4 of 5
goldensyrup 10/26/2010 8:59:00 PM

I received a sample of this from beauty.com with my recent purchase and assumed it would be like Frederik Fekkai Glossing Cream which I find too slippery and heavy. This is quite lightweight, leaves a lovely sheen on the hair and doesn't weigh it down at all. Great refreshing lemony scent. I am purchasing a full size asap for $20.

Self Tanners -Avon - Slim Solutions Leg Perfector
rated 4 of 5
goldensyrup 10/7/2010 2:52:00 AM

I actually really like this product and am currently looking out for it whenever I see an Avon catalogue. The texture is gel like and contains micro glitter which is supposed to even out the texture and tone of skin. This has colour in it so I always make sure to rub it in well, if you try to rush this part you WILL end up with streaks so it's a no brainer. On application I get a nice natural beige glow with no orange tones whatsoever and the micro shimmer just makes my legs look better! The added bonus is that this develops into a nice faux tan. I'm almost finished my first tube and currently looking for another. GREAT product and I'm not a regular Avon customer at all.

Treatments -Clinique - Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector
rated 1 of 5
goldensyrup 5/9/2010 8:57:00 PM

I just bought this for $89 AUD after hearing raves galore about this just about everywhere. I was super excited to use this because apparently it does fade dark spots but sadly after only 4 days of use this is BREAKING ME OUT!! My skin was perfect before but this is clogging my pores and making me feel very sefl conscious. I think I might have to return it. I am totally bummed as I have pregnancy melasma on my forehead and absolutely nothing is budging it and I was hoping and praying this would be the answer. I don't want to trade in melasma for acne though!!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast Length
rated 2 of 5
goldensyrup 5/3/2010 11:02:00 PM

Very disappointed in this product after using and loving the original Lash Blast in the orange tube. From the very beginning this seemed like it was all dried out and going clumpy at the same time and I could barely get any product onto my lashes let alone create any length!!! Horrible mascara and would definitely not re-purchase.

Pressed Powders -L'Oreal - True Match Super-Blendable Powder
rated 2 of 5
goldensyrup 4/10/2010 12:51:00 AM

This was such a huge disappointment. I chose the colour W4 which looks pretty much perfect in the compact, it's a yellow based beige and at first glance looks like it would translate perfectly to my own skintone. WRONG. As I was brushing it over my face, I began morphing into an oompa loompa as I got progressively more and more orange. Such a shame as it looks so nice in the pan and is such a nice creamy finely milled powder. Obviously I will not be re-purchasing, especially at $29.95 AUD!!

Treatments (Eye) -Elizabeth Arden - Prevage Eye Anti-aging Moisturizing Treatment
rated 2 of 5
goldensyrup 3/21/2010 3:15:00 AM

This would have to be the most unsual eye treatment I've ever used. I found the texture to be very dry and and because of all the silicone it contains it feels and looks more like a makeup primer. I like my eye creams to be light and creamy and very hydrating which is the polar opposite of this. I can't comment on the long term effects as I used a sample which lasted me a week only. I wouldn't purchase the full size unless I saw solid proof that it really does ward off wrinkles or erase pre-existing fine lines.

Liquid -Revlon - PhotoReady Makeup
rated 5 of 5
goldensyrup 2/18/2010 9:01:00 PM

This foundation is INCREDIBLE and really does seem to produce a photoready look buy helping to even out skintone and brighten under the eyes. I do not notice any glitter or even shimmer whatsoever so am perplexed where this is coming from? One word of warning: make sure your skin isn't dry or dehydrated as if it is it can tend to migrate into little fine lines and dry patches as many foundations will anyway. I use a moisturiser beforehand and it may pay to use a primer if you feel you need it. I use the Nude 04 and it is perfect for my light olive skin. For reference I use MAC NC25.
