Polishes -Essie - Lady Like

I love the polish. The color is both unique and office appropriate - sort of milky mauve. I got the drugstore version of it and can not comment on the wear yet - I just applied it last night. The only negative thing I have observed is that these types of milky colors seem to be trickier to apply; but after 2 coats it is perfectly opaque. I have no dupes of this in my stash so I am glad I got this. UPDATE: The wear is great! I wore this for 7 days with little noticeable signs of wear. What a gem! I might get a back up bottle.

Concealers -Unlisted Brand - Gabriel Cosmetics- Concealer

I like this. I don't love it, but it will do and with few tricks I can apply it quite well. Pros: no parabens/petroleum products/aluminium/etc - I really don't want to be putting all this crap on my face every day of my life; the color match is not bad either. Cons: applies a bit chalky and it not easy to apply it smoothly. You gotta use the concealer brush and do it as soon as you put on your skin, light even strokes. I have dark under-eye circles and this really helped. Packaging is good quality too.

Great color, but not unique at all. On the nail it just looks like any old dark red. If you don't have a dark red in your stash, by all means, go get this - quality is good and application is terrific! But if you are like me and own gazillion of polishes, spend your mullah on something more unique.

Concealers -Jane Iredale - Active Light Under Eye Concealer

In my endless search for a paraben free concealer, I am almost ready to give up. What can I say about this product? Well, the color is fine, the consistency is OK (not Lancome but OK). The packaging is so cheap it broke after 2 months of use and now I can't get any product out. Considering I paid 34CAD+tax for it, I would expect much longer life shelf. Poor packaging, way too expensive for the quality. Back to Lancome for me.

Polishes -Sephora - by OPI Havana Dreams

Ok, I paid 12 CAD + tax for it and at this price it's not worth it; it's 9USD in US but still to pricey for such mediocre quality. Seriously? This is thick, streaky and just horribly hard to apply. The color is lovely, but it took THREE layers to get an even opaque nail. This is my first Sephora by OPI and most likely be my last. I gave it a generous three lippies cause of the color. Even my hubby loves it and no fan of weird blue nails.

Polishes -Creative Nail Design - Bisou De Lulu Nail Polish
rated 4 of 5
gnomixa 4/11/2011 12:18:00 AM

This is the easiest white polish to use for french mani tips. It's not pure white (hence 1 lippie off) but it applies soooo easily - you do 2 coats on a tip and it looks smooth and professional not goopy and messy. The brush is nice and thin, not huge like OPI or Orly's (Orly's brush is still too big for french mani IMO).

Polishes -Orly - French Manicure - White Tips

Gets 2 lippies for a nice pure white color. That's about it. Trying to actually apply it to tips resulted in a disaster. It's thick and goopy - and the brush is too big for tips. Ugh, waste of 6 bucks. Back to CND Bisou de Lulu.

Moisturizers -Derma E - Hyaluronic Acid Day Creme
rated 4 of 5

This cream while feels and smells nice has made my milia problem worse (I am guessing it's the dimethicone which is silicone derivative), and didn't moisturize enough. Lucky for me, I purchased it at vitacost and only paid 17USD instead of 39.99CAD. I am using it as a hand lotion instead just to use it up. UPDATE: It didn't cause milia. But after finishing the tub, I am going back to Aubrey Organics Rosehip Cream, which is cheaper and more natural.

Top/Base Coats -Poshe - Super-Fast Drying Top Coat
rated 5 of 5
gnomixa 3/6/2011 9:39:00 PM

This product is great! no stench like SV, no tip shrinking. Dries as promised! I now actually can do stuff after my mani. I can knit! I made a switch to this from the stinky, formaldehyde laden SV to this and never looked back. While not quite as shiny as SV, this is a healthier option w/o that dreaded warning on SV bottle. Besides, it's still super shiny just not as shiny as SV. Please don't ever stop making this product!A+++++

Polishes -OPI - Panda-monium Pink

Great color!!! i love love it! Especially for cool toned people. If you have warm (yellow) tones in your skin, this is not for you. Love everything but the streakiness. But then, it's expected with the enamel chalky color like this. 3 coats should do it. I find it's best to grab A LOT of polish on the brush, that way dents/streaks don't happen.

Treatments -OPI - Chip Skip

The reviewers below who gave this product a negative rating are not using it correctly. See the long post below mine for correct use. This really works! however, if you don't want to spend the cash, just use a paint brush with regular polish remover to clean your nail BEFORE the basecoat application. All this product does is essentially remove the oil/grease from your hand lotion from your nail. This will make the nail polish adhere better. A++!

Scrubs -LUSH - Ocean Salt
rated 3 of 5
gnomixa 12/23/2010 6:21:00 PM

I loved this product back in 2007 when I wasn't conscious about parabens and their side effects. In fact i would keep buying it and using it, if it weren't for parabens as I love everything about it. I posted on LUSH 's website - a review for it noting parabens, but LUSH decided not to let my review through. Oh well. Parabens still there and they claim to be natural? too bad, because my bucks are not going there until they truly do get natural.

CD/Books/Movies -Paula's Choice - Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me 6th Edition
rated 1 of 5
gnomixa 10/15/2010 7:03:00 PM

I have had my eye on this "expert" for awhile now. I am actually quite surprised that Paula has quite a following considering that her opinions are clearly biased by the fact that she sells cosmetics for profit. She hates all natural brands simply labeling them as irritants, but if one looks at the ingredient lists on her products, one can find that she uses 4 types of parabens in the SAME product (cancer causing - they mimick estrogen, doctors actually advise cancer patients to stay away from barapens), aluminum compounds (aluminum is poisonous and shouldn't be consumed or put on your skin). So she should be the last one to talk about some irritating plant oils. She also uses petroleum derived ingredients - all in all, her skin care is just a regular mainstream chock full of chemicals crap. While natural ingredients may be irritating to some, their hazards are not even on the same level as parabens, petrolatum and aluminum. This book does nothing but promote her mainstream opinion which differs little from all the other mainstream opinions. Nothing new here.

Excellent foundation! Color match for my skin is simply perfect and can't be beat! It blends seamlessly and gives you that finished look. It's matte which is great too because let's face it, who wants to glisten like a Xmas tree? Great value for your money too, especially because often times Jess has sales. Will never buy any other mineral foundation.

Tools -Sally Hansen - 5 Minute FRENCH Manicure Pen Kit
rated 1 of 5
gnomixa 10/12/2010 8:15:00 PM

BIG FAT NO. ok, so it sounds good in theory - a pen with nail polish for french white tips, right? Wrong! When this dries (which is is 10 seconds after the application), the white tips started cracking.....even when I pre-treated the nail with rubbing alcohol - removing hand lotion. Tried this 3 times, and the tips just cracked every time!!! 7 bucks down the drain, the worst product I ever tried. Do yourself a favour, save this money and get a french mani in a salon. Will NOT repurchase.
