Lips -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter in Lollipop
rated 5 of 5
gnippy 5/4/2013 12:29:00 PM

Lovely hot pink color that applies smoothly and lasts a good amount of time. Even when it wears off it leaves a slight stain so your lips aren't completely devoid of color. The texture is nice as it is light weight and not sticky or slippery. It doesn't feel like I have anything on my lips at all when I wear this. I don't notice a lot of moisturzing effect but it isn't drying either. This comes in the standard lipstick container and runs about $7.99. I would definitely repurchase this and will try some other colors as well.

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Naked Palette
rated 5 of 5

I have seen the positive reviews on this palette for years and have been curious about all the fuss. But I really wasn't into neutral colors previously so spending $50 on this palette didn't make sense. In the past few years I have gravitated more and more towards more neutral and interchangable colors and expressed an interest in this palette to my sister. Fortunately for me my wonderful sister purchased this for me for my birthday and I am so glad she did. I absolutely love this palette with all of the great but generally subtle colors. Most can be used together in one combination or another and I like the ease of having it all in one palette nice and convenient. The eye shadows are soft and blendable yet long lasting. The eye shadow brush that comes with the palette makes application a breeze and with the UDPP I got 10+ hours of wear from the shadows without creasing or fading. A mini UDPP comes with the palette. Yes, most of the colors are shimmers which I like. I guess that is my compromise for going to neutrals - I still need a bit of bling. I didn't have any trouble with fall out of the shimmer as some have stated. I have never said this about an eye shadow palette but I could take this on vacation and only take this with no back up eye shadow and be happy. Initially I thought the $50 price tag was too high but now that I have tried this out IMO it is well worth the money. I like this enough that if I should ever use the whole thing up I would repurchase. Now I want to check out Naked 2.

Mascara -E.L.F. - Wet Gloss Lash and Brow Clear Mascara
rated 5 of 5
gnippy 5/4/2013 12:00:00 PM

Like so many other reviews I use this product to set my eyebrows as opposed to using it as a mascara. I really like the way it sets my brows holding them firmly in place for hours and hours. For me it was long lasting holding them in place for 10+ hours. It comes in a double ended tube with two application wands. One end is for the mascara use and the other for the brow use. I will use both ends for the my brows as I don't use clear mascars on my lashes. This was dirt cheap, $1.00 for the tube. I will definitely be repurchasing.

Eyeliner -Lancome - Artliner- Brown
rated 5 of 5
gnippy 5/2/2013 2:43:00 PM

I love this eyeliner. The applicator is wonderful. It is very thin and does not separate upon use. It delivers the product to your eyelids without streaking or pulling. It also allows you to made a very thin line or a thicker line, whatever you prefer as the applicator allows for precision application. The eyeliner itself has a great consistency. It applies smoothly. It basically glides on without any tugging or pulling. It is very well pigmented. This lasted on me 10 plus hours without fading, smearing or flaking. The only real draw back for me is that this runs $30.00 per tube. But, with that said I like it well enough that I will purchase more.

Mascara -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Length Mascara
rated 1 of 5
gnippy 5/2/2013 2:18:00 PM

While WnW has many quality products at rock bottom prices, sadly for me this is not one of them. My lashes are short and straight and of average fullness so I need a mascara that adds length as well as a of a bit of fullness. I always use waterproof mascara because for me it holds a curl while non waterproof does not. I really wanted this to work for me and though I have unsuccessfully used WnW mascara in the past I hopefully purchased this based on the good reviews. While I love the purple tube and the small wand that is where the love ends. This formula seems to be extra wet and as such pulls the curl out of my lashes leaving them sticking straight out. It adds neither length or volume and as such for me is unusable. I paid less than $3.00 for this so I don't regret trying this nor will I regret throwing it out. I definitely will not repurchase.

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner - Smoky
rated 2 of 5
gnippy 2/13/2013 9:18:00 AM

I am a sucker for liquid eyeliner but this one certainly didn't live up to my expections. Unlike some, mine didn't smell bad or weird but it was definitely difficult to apply due to the applicator itself. It was like trying to apply the product with a piece of pointed very hard rubber with no give. It was impossible to get any type of line that was not streaky. I finally ended up sticking one of my other eyeliner brushes in and applying that way so I did get a pretty good application using that method. One the plus side, the color, if you can get it on, is a nice charcoal gray, softer than black but definitely gives a dramatic look. I had to scrub to get mine off and was difficult to remove. It didn't flake at all. Despite the fact that I really liked the color I won't purchase again and I probably won't use again as it is too much hassle to apply (afraid I will damage my eye with the applicator that comes in the package) and too much hassle to get off. As with all Wet n Wild products it was really inexpensive but the low price certainly doesn't out weight the cons. NOTE: I would have given the packaging quality section a 0 but the system won't accept that, thus the lowest possible score of 1.

Eyeliner -Palladio - Liquid Eyeliner
rated 3 of 5
gnippy 1/8/2013 10:16:00 AM

I bought this eyeliner in lavender at Sally Beauty Supply for about $5.99. I had never used this brand of eyeliner before but purchased because of the color. Let me say that I am a fan of liquid eyeliners, but not this one. I hate the felt tip applicator but this is the case with any brand. I just can't seem to get them to work for me. Upon application the liner stung my eyes and caused them to water a bit. Never a good sign and things generally don't improve from that point on. The color was pretty, sort of a pearl lavender and there was plenty of pigmentation but due to my inability to use the applicator I had to apply several coats to achieve the line I was looking for. I also noted that the eyeliner on my right eye transferred to the crease of my eye where it stayed all day. The staying power of the this product was decent. It stayed where I put it and in the case of the crease, where I didn't put it as well. At this point I would not repurchase this product or this brand of eyeliner. Next time I am going to try it with my MAC liner brush and if I have more success with that method of application I will update this review.

Lipstick -Revlon - ColorBurst Lip Butter in Gumdrop
rated 4 of 5
gnippy 1/6/2013 7:46:00 PM

I am a sucker for anything along the purple line and I had heard a lot of favorable things about the lip butters so when I saw this I had to pick it up. Unfortunately I am on the fence regarding this color and how it looks on me. For reference I am a MAC NW20 with hazel eyes and fairly pigmented lips. This lip butter is quite pale and I find myself wanting a bit more pigmentation. It looks almost like a pale silver on my lips with a hint of pink undertones. I must say that I do like the formula. It apples smoothly and feels very moisturizing on my lips. It doesn't have a great deal of staying power but then I don't expect something with the word butter in it to have a lot of staying power. It is easily reapplied and since the color isn't overpowering and does not build there are no worries about looking clown like. This comes in the standard lipstick case packing. I paid $7.99 for this. Though I like the formula I will not repurchase this color. I will purchase this product in another color.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Exact Eyelights Mascara in Black Ruby for Green Eyes
rated 4 of 5
gnippy 1/6/2013 7:19:00 PM

I purchased this because it was designed for green eyes. My eyes are hazel and I wanted to bring out the green in them. I can't say that this mascara did that but for a natural look it is fine for everyday. My lashes are short and fine so I need a waterproof mascara or they won't hold a curl. Typically I use a deep black in an attempt to define them. It applied smoothly with no clumping. The pigmentation was fair though it did not yield a dramatic lash. I was able to build the color by adding a couple of layers. But if you are looking for a dramatic lash this is not the product for you. I did not notice any significant enhancement of my natural eye color. This comes in the typical mascara packaging. I did like the applicator brush as the wand has a nice curved brush which makes application easy. It was thin and had enough bristles to catch my short lashes. I got this a Walgreen for $8.99. Not a bad price as drugstore cosmetics have increased in price. I will continue to use this mascara but will not repurchase this particular formula. However I like this well enough that I plan to try other CG formulas. Believe it or not I have never used CG mascaras before.

Styling Products -Beyond The Zone - Straight Shot Straightening Balm
rated 5 of 5
gnippy 10/12/2012 10:44:00 AM

I purchased this a Sally Beauty Supply for the Club price of $5.79. Without the Club price it is around $6.39. You get a good size tube for that price and it doesn't take much product to do the job. So IMO it is a good value. I purchased because since moving to IN I have had a lot of trouble w/my hair being curly & frizzy due to the humidity here compounded by a very bad haircut. I like this product. It has a pleasant coconut smell, a little goes a long way and it definitely does straighten my hair and prevent the frizzies without making my hair feel stiff. It does add a little to the drying time but in my experience most products do. It comes in a standard squeeze tube that is easy to use and handle even if your hands are wet. I would and will definitely purchase this product again.

Fragrances -Escada - Taj Sunset
rated 5 of 5
gnippy 6/23/2011 9:53:00 PM

This is a limited edition summer fragrance from Escada. IMO it is very typical (if a good way) of all the Escada fragrances I have experienced - light, fun, floral/fruity and just overall wonderful scents. This isn't over powering at all and is great for everyday or casual use. It is a nice blend of various fruit scents with some floral as well. (I am not very good with fragrance descriptions so I will you refer to some of the other reviews for more details on the overall scents comprising this fragrance.) On me it lasts a moderate amount of time so reapplication is needed from time to time. As far as fragrances go this isn't overly expensive and IMO well worth the price. I would definitely purchase again because I like it well enough to do so.

Polishes -China Glaze - Reggae to Riches
rated 5 of 5
gnippy 5/5/2011 12:50:00 PM

Beautiful magenta with definite blue undertones. Unique and long wearing. I am on day 5 with only slight chips and this is after doing dishes several times. (Maybe I should say rinishing dishes for the dishwasher.) The consistency on my bottle was slightly thicker than water so it was somewhat of a challenge to apply. But with careful application it didn't make a mess and I got full coverage after just two coats. Unfortunately like everything else ChG has gone up in price so I consider it a mid price point, but IMO it is worth the $ for the overall quality, color and wear. I would definitely recommend this polish and the brand overall.

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner - Eggplant
rated 2 of 5
gnippy 5/5/2011 12:41:00 PM

IMO this eyeliner is horrible. Mine was dry and very difficult to get onto the brush to apply. Once on the brush I had a hard time getting it off the brush to apply to my eyelid. This process took quite some time - too much time. This was a fresh pot of liner so it wasn't dried out. Once on the lid it did preform well - staying in place all day - so that is a plus. Although inexpensive compared to other creme and gel eyeliner and readily obtainable I threw mine in the trash after this use and won't repurchase.

Polishes -Unlisted Brand - Massini Slamming Red
rated 1 of 5
gnippy 11/4/2009 10:57:00 AM

Oh what a lovely color, but that is where the love ends for me. This is a beautiful red polish loaded with tons of multi colored glitter. So beautiful and reflective. I wanted to love it, I really did. But...the application was a nightmare. The polish was thick and streaky. I thinned it out and that didn't help. Once on it looked so pretty. Unfortunately the "pretty" only lasted 1 day before the polish started to peel from every nail. It came off in sheets. I used the same base and top coats as always but they just couldn't hold this stuff. I paid $1.99 on sale at Meijer. The regular price is $2.99. After the 1st use I gave this away and don't intend to repurchase. However, with that said, this brand makes so many pretty colors I might risk another try with a different color to see if I get better results.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in Rockstar Pink
rated 2 of 5
gnippy 10/25/2009 10:45:00 AM

This is a very pretty blingy polish - great when you want a little pick me up. Two coats gave great coverage. It applied well and went on smoothly. The texture is nice and it didn't have that rough feeling after applying my top coat like so many glitter polishes do. However with that said the staying power is horrible. I got 1 day's wear out of this polish before it started peeling off in sheets. I used the same base and top coats as I always do so nothing changed there. Unfortunately I seem to have little luck w/the Sally Hansen brand of polishes. The formula doesn't matter, they just don't last on me. I think I paid $2.99 for this bottle which is a decent price overall but IMO too much for something that doesn't even last a day. I will use this polish again because I do like the color but I will make sure I only plan on a day's wear. I would not purchase this again and will not purchase more SH polishes.
