Styling Products -Sexy Hair Concepts - Powder Play
glamourdoll 4/28/2013 10:29:00 PM
I had been wanting to try this but had other hair products to use up so I held off buying this. I spotted this in the clearance aisle at Ulta and figured I would take a chance. My sister, who has about 100x more hair than I do, and therefore, no need of any kind of volumizer, loves this stuff. I have Asian hair, naturally very straight, that is very fine and silky. I usually wash my hair every about 3x a week. When my hair is looking a bit flat, I lift up sections and sprinkle on this powder directly onto roots. After I apply this, I go back and rough up my roots with my fingers. Voila! My hair looks full and sexy! This stuff buys me another day in between shampoos. This stuff seems to wash out easily when I shampoo, too. I like this much better than the Aveda Pure Abundance potion (and it costs much less too). I am planning to repurchase this.

Lotions/ Creams -Aveeno - Daily Moisturizing Lotion
glamourdoll 3/10/2013 10:25:00 PM
For me, this lotion is all about function, not frills. The packaging isn't fancy, and this has that non-fragrance but it seemed to be just what my skin needed! I somehow ended up with a bad rash on my legs, and my skin was itchy and irritated. I applied this lotion to my legs and my skin felt healed, soothed, and moisturized. It absorbs quickly and isn't heavy or greasy. I never would have bought this for myself but my sister gave it to me as a gift--she has dealt with skin sentivity for years---but I am glad to have this lotion. For me this goes into the clinical moisturizer category, sort of like Lubriderm, which I have seen used in the hospital setting. I think that the tube I have will last me for a while but I think that I will repurchase.

Foundations -Dolce & Gabbana - Perfect Finish Creamy Foundation
glamourdoll 1/17/2013 3:35:00 PM
So I found myself feeling frustrated after P&G re-launched their Clean Liquid Makeup, the Classic Ivory shade 110 is now as thick as wet cement and has a strange, unflattering orange undertone. I hunted down 14 bottles of the previous formula and decided I would have to find something else before the hoard runs out. I saw print ads for this foundation and had wanted it for months. I took the plunge with a Sephora gift card. I am about an NC30, and after some research, decided to try this in the Caramel 110 shade. It looks like beautiful skin, not like makeup. It looks like beautiful skin at a distance or up close. It looks like beautiful skin under indoor lighting or out in natural daylight. It looks like beautiful skin whether I buff this in with my flat-top Shiseido brush, or when blended in with fingertips. This is a bit expensive but thankfully, a little goes a long way. The heavy glass jar is very pretty and luxe-looking, I leave it out on my vanity just b/c it's so pretty. As expensive as this is, I do plan to re-purchase. lv EDIT 02/22/2013: I think that I may have gone too dark with this. I am wondering if the Caramel 110 is more suited for NC 30 or 35 and I think I might be NC 20 (for now) at the most NC 25 in summer, so I think that I may have to go back for the Beige 78 shade. As expensive as this is I think I will try this and update when I can.

Hair Styling Tools -Goody - Spin Pin - Brunette
glamourdoll 1/4/2013 6:05:00 PM
My sister gave me these as a gift. I have Asian hair (read: silky straight, almost slilppery). Whenever I attempt to put up my hair with bobby pins, they go in but just as quickly, the bobby pins slide right out. Shortly thereafter, my hair falls down. Enter these spin pins! I just twist my hair up, as tight as I can because it will come loose soon enough, and then screw in one spin pin. Ta-Da! My hair is up and done. These are a little expensive but they work really well for me. I lost the pair I had so I went and got another set. Definitely worth trying especially if bobby pins do not work fo you.

Misc Beauty Tools -Gillette - venus embrace

After years of searching I have finally found The Perfect Razor for me. My only regret is that I did not try this sooner. I get a close, comfortable shave--without nicks, cuts, irritation, or razor burn. I have never gotten a cut or nick with this razor. I end up with legs that are silky soft and baby smooth. I swear that my legs have never felt or looked this beautiful. I do think that they're kind of expensive, but for me it is totally worth it b/c this razor is The One. I just wish I could find a super bulk pack of the refills! I have also noticed that my legs are staying smoother longer, although nowadays I shave 2 or 3 X a week. Regarding repurchase, I'll put it this way: the day after my first shave with this razor, I bought a pack of refill cartridges. One final note: I've only ever used this on my legs---I tweeze my armpits and my bikini line is a wax-only zone. I just wish I had bought this sooner!

Skincare - Body -Gillette - Satin Care Shave Cream
glamourdoll 10/28/2012 1:29:00 AM
I got this in the lavender scent. Oh my goodness, this stuff is great. I get no nicks, no cuts, no razor burn using this. I would like to try the pure & delicate version but cannot find it at the moment. I am using this in conjunction with the new Venus Olay razor (5 blades) and the In-Shower moisturizer and I swear my legs are smooth and silky for days---no cuts, nicks, or razor burn. First, I apply a dollop of the In-Shower moisturizer to my leg. Then, I add a dollop of the lavender shave cream. Then I shave with the Venus Olay razor. Presto, smooth, silky, sexy legs!! I have finally found the shaving products that work for me!

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Complete Salon Manicure - Shell We Dance
glamourdoll 10/21/2012 11:23:00 AM
This is a great pale, milky pink which is perfect for everyday wear (read: work/office appropriate). I do like the great big fat wide brush. This does not wear as well as OPI for me but the color is truly gorgeous. I did not apply a topcoat over this and it shows some wear but this is a pretty forgiving shade so they're hard to see. Since it's so great for everyday wear, I do plan to repurchase.

Shampoo -L'Oreal - EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner
glamourdoll 10/6/2012 10:01:00 PM
I saw an ad for this on Allure or Instyle or some other glossy magazine and was intrigued. So I picked this up and thought I would give it a try. I am Asian, with stick-straight, fine, color-treated hair. I confess that I roll out of bed with the hair that, for curly girls, means getting up a hour early for quality time with a straightening iron. I realized that my life would be easier all around if I did not fight the natural texture of my hair. I do color to hide my ever-increasing grey. But my hairstyle, such as it is, simply involves a generous misting of styling spray. I use clips to section my hair and then use a clampy-type brush to pull each section whilst blasting from root to tip with the blow-dryer. The idea for me is to bend the ends of my hair so that they lay nicely. Lastly, I use a spritz of hair spray along my part and I'm done. My hair takes maybe 10 minutes from damp to done. I am left with gleamy, glossy, polished hair. (Yay!) I did use Wen in the past with great success and I think that for me, it lived up to the hype of the infomercial. Honestly I was hoping this would be the same thing. This stuff made my roots look really really greasy. Wen never did that. I don't mean a little greasy either. I mean it was like a stick of melted crisco had been dumped onto my head. OK maybe not that bad, but still. The pump on this is downright frustrating b/c it dispenses such a measly amount. Either supply a pump which puts out the proper volume of product, or put this in a squeeze tube. Last but not least is the smell of this product. It's not a nice smell, and it's strong on top of that. I realize that is personal preference and some people may like it but I hate it. If this didn't make my roots greasy, if it didn't smell terrible, and if it were packaged appropriately, I would repurchase. But as it is now, no never.

Shampoo -John Frieda - Full Repair Full Body Shampoo
glamourdoll 9/25/2012 9:53:00 PM
This shampoo is supposedly for "overworked"hair. My hair is most definitely NOT overworked. I have very straight (Asian) hair that is very healthy even though it is colored. The best thing about this shampoo is that it de-tangles my hair. However, I don't care for the smell of this shampoo---but that is just my personal preference. I don't know if I would re-purchase this but I am glad that I tried it. Just FYI: I don't fight the natural texture of my hair---I have neither the time nor the patience.(Read: I do not make any attempt to make my hair curly). I wash my hair every other day and wring out the excess water. I liberally apply a styling spray (right now, something from Phyto) and divide my hair into sections. Then I use a clampy-type brush to grasp each section while hitting it with the blow dryer, making sure to flip the ends. The objective is to heat-polish my hair and turn the ends so that they lay properly. I'm not sure that my hair looks fuller, but it is gleamy and gorgeous when I use the technique I've described. Like I said, I don't care for the scent, but I like that that it detangled my strands.

Hair Color -Garnier - Nutrisse Permanent Creme Hair Color
glamourdoll 8/29/2012 7:20:00 PM
I am an Asian girl with very dark brown, almost black hair. However, I have a lot of grey growing in that seem very noticeable to me & are bothersome. The worst part is the "skunk stripe" that I have towards the back of my head. I bught this color to blend away my grays. It did a beautiful job. The skunk stripe just looks like highlights, along with the other random grays. I bought this in #434, Chocolate Chestnut, and it seems to be wearing well. I would totally re-purchase this. UPDATE: I have continued to use this, and am still getting beautiful results. This color makes my greys just look like highlights. After using this color, my hair is glossy and shiny, the color is rich and has dimension, and it feels silky! I like this so much that I keep 3 boxes in my bathroom. I would totally recommend this without hesitation or reservation.

Crème -Cover Girl - AquaSmooth SPF15 Make-up
glamourdoll 7/8/2012 10:17:00 PM
Recently I became fed up with paying $30 and upwards for foundation. I had worn Cover Girl Clean Make Up, but I noticed that along with the change of the bottle/labelling, unfortunately, CG changed both the formula (now thick as wet cement & impossible to get at) and the shades. My beloved Classic Ivory now has a very strange orange undertone. So I decided to try the Aquasmooth in the hopes that it could replace the Clean liquid (now far beyond recognition if you ask me). I was not disappointed! It has the light shade with the soft golden undertone that is just perfect. It goes on light, feels weightless, blends effortlessly. I don't use the sponge that comes with it, I actually keep a pack of sponges and use a brand-new fresh sponge every day. No breakouts or bad reactions from my skin either. I do find the compact to be unnecessarily bulky but I am willing to put up with that for the product inside. Also, the compact is sold closed, so choosing a shade can be tricky. Lastly, you don't really get very much product. One compact lasts me about 2 months with daily use. I have already repurchased (and I try to keep a backup just in case I run out). If you have noticed that your Clean liquid makeup is just not the same, then this product just might be the ticket for you.

Hair Color -Garnier - Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Multi-Lights Highlighting
glamourdoll 4/26/2012 9:39:00 PM
This kit is great. I am Asian with straight, dark brown hair. I do color it but that is to cover up greys (and lately it seems that I'm getting more greys!). I chose this kit in H3 (warm bronze/cookies n'cream). I used this on dry, day-old dirty hair. I ended up with beautiful highlights that made me look like I had just got back from a weekend at the beach! I really don't care for the applicator thing but that is so minor. I have already repurchased this kit. I think I will get one of those pull-thru caps for the next time I reapply. The conditioner packet is nice as well; it felt moisturizing but not overly heavy. This was seven well-spent dollars! UPDATE: I re-colored with my Nutrisse #434 (dark golden brown), then went 3 days without washing my hair, and then applied this kit again. My hair looks GORGEOUS. After using both products, my hair color is rich and has dimension, it looks shiny and glossy, and it feels silky. Am planning to repurchase ASAP. Recommend without hesitation or reservation if you are on the fence.

Blush -Cover Girl - Classic Color 'Soft Mink'
glamourdoll 3/26/2012 9:16:00 PM
I never thought about trying this blush before, since it may not look super-exciting in the package. But then, I figured for $5, why not. As it turns out, this gives me a gorgeous, healthy, peachy-pink flush. It looks fantastic on me. I am (probably) about an NC 30 and I was using the Classic Color Blush in Rose Silk before getting this, Rose Silk is pretty but I think that of the two, the Soft Mink looks better on me. Soft Mink just gives my skin a pretty, healthy, peachy-pink flush, does not look overdone, just looks fantastic. I can see this looking pretty on everyone. I wish I had tried this sooner, it is so gorgeous!

Cleansers -Olay - Sensitive Wet Cleansing Cloths
glamourdoll 3/6/2012 9:11:00 PM
I got these as a gift from my sister. While these are portable & convenient, I don't feel like these remove all of my makeup. I use & like both the Daily Facials & the Total Effects cloths (both of these are the add-water type). It isn't a total bust though. I use cream eyeshadows---both from Laura Mercier (a metallic creme & one of the caviar sticks). So, I use one of these cloths to clean my fingers between and after blending these shadows. For this lather-lover, this product was just not for me. If you are really busy, pressed for time, and don't need lather to feel like your skin is clean, these may do the trick for you. I will use up this pack but am not planning to purchase.

Cleansers -Olay - Total Effects Refreshing Citrus Scrub
glamourdoll 3/6/2012 8:48:00 PM
While I really like the add-water TE cleansing cloths, I cannot say the same for this scrub. With its promise of "refreshing citrus" goodness I was hoping for a drugstore duplicate of Bliss's Clog Dissolving Cleansing Milk. But no, it is not. This scrub-that-lathers does cleanse my skin & remove makeup. But I HATE the afterburn---courtesy of menthol. I think it much more menthol than it is citrus. Blech. Menthol is for medicines----and nothing else IMO. I will definitely not repurchase. I am not even sure that I will finish up this tube.
