Polishes -Creative Nail Design - Shellac UV Polish System - 14-Day Wear
glamgyrl 12/18/2011 2:09:00 AM
I got this service done in a salon in Puerto Rico before leaving for a week long cruise, so I thought it was the perfect time to try it. I'm so glad I did! I paid $40 for the manicure. I got it in the color Tutti Frutti which is a hot pink with a slight periwinkle or blue duochrome. You can't see the actual colors of these polishes through the bottle because light would cause them to cure within the bottle itself, so I didn't even know about the duochrome before I started but was very pleasantly surprised. If you get this done, ask the nail tech to show you what the color looks like on one nail so you can see the depth of it. A lot of these have a good shimmer but the color on the bottle does not reflect that accurately. There are some beautiful cremes as well. I've never done acrylics or gels, so I was excited that this was just polish that wouldn't damage my nailbed. It lasted through tons of exposure to chlorine, salt water, hand sanitizer, and sunlight (though maybe that made it last longer...). I also climbed rocks, and it not only lasted through it all, my nails looked freshly polished 10 days later with the same initial shine. My nails grow fast, so in the third week it looked like I had a half-moon mani from far away-- the rest of the polish was still shiny :). I just took it off using pure acetone, cotton balls, and bandaids, and my nails look just like they did before I started. No damage because there was no buffing. I definitely will do this again and get this as a pedi next time too! Do your research and find a good salon, I think it makes all the difference with this treatment.

Pressed Powders -MAC - Blot Powder
glamgyrl 8/25/2006 11:27:00 PM
I am SUPER oily, so I need to touch up every now and then to get rid of shine. So far, this powder has been good at solving the shine problem without leaving a noticeable color behind. I usually use Laura Mercier's oil-free foundation in sunset beige (diluted with a bit of water), and then use a kabuki brush to buff in the blot powder. I use the blot powder in medium; a little lighter than my skin because my skin oxidizes powders and foundation very quickly, and this gives a beautiful, even finish. The one I carry in my purse I apply with a retractable powder brush which IMO gives a more even coverage than using a sponge/pad/poofy thing. The only problem I have is that they seem to crumble easily. I have had two that have shattered all over my makeup bag. Maybe it's the way the powder is pressed...more likely, I may just be a little careless with my purse :-p. I will continue to purchase this product until a better sheer powder compact comes along...

Lip Gloss -Yves Saint Laurent - Golden Gloss 3 - Pink
glamgyrl 8/25/2006 11:10:00 PM
The third addition to my Golden Gloss Family!! The color is a gorgeous watermelon- hot pink-- sheer of course-- with a generous amount of gold sparkle. The sparkle is not gritty or overdone at all IMO. I love the scent too-- it has a mango essence that makes it pleasant, but not too sweet like you'd eat it. I get so many compliments when I wear these glosses-- people I don't even know ask me what kind of lipgloss I have on! Very pretty especially in a dimly lit setting, kind of the effect of moonlight on sand but gold of course. I love the applicator, though since I usually wear it over a lipliner, I use a lipbrush to apply it because I don't want to change the color of the gloss! Overall, IMO, this is the perfect gloss if you want to sparkle!

Lip Gloss -Yves Saint Laurent - Golden Gloss 6 - Gold Plum
glamgyrl 8/25/2006 10:52:00 PM
WOW I love this gloss! The texture is amazing-- not gritty like i expected it to be. The color is less of a plum, more of a reddish berry on me (GGG). It will definitely be a staple for fall! I get so many compliments when I wear it-- people I don't even know ask me what kind of lipgloss I have on! I'm hoping they will come out with a deeper plum soon- maybe a blue-based one. Maybe a brown one too. I have already purchased #1 gold and #3 pink; I will definitely purchase this again when I run out! this picture shows the gloss over Clinique mulberry lipliner

Eyeliner -Clinique - Quickliner for Eyes
glamgyrl 5/24/2006 2:21:00 AM
In general, these are great liners because the formula is soft but humidity-resistant and there are so many basic and flattering colors to choose from. The price is reasonable- for those that use drugstore brand eyeliners, spend the extra few dollars on this, you will not be disappointed. I always have one in my purse (no need to sharpen!). I took off one lippie because the smudger on the end is a waste to me- too hard to smudge and irritating to your lid if you're determined to get a smudgy line. Use fingers or brush instead. I wish it had more product instead of the smudger.

Eyeliner -Clinique - Quickliner for Eyes - Indigo

This color is gorgeous on my dark brown eyes and I always get compliments when wearing it. It's different from navy because I think it has a tint of green in there (though not noticeable). It lasts through the day without migrating even in the infamous summer humidity of NC (I do use a primer underneath though). I took off one lippie because the smudger on the end is a waste to me- too hard to smudge and irritating to your lid if you're determined to get a smudgy line. Use fingers or brush instead. I wish it had more product instead of the smudger.

Primer/ Corrector -Clinique - Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector
glamgyrl 5/24/2006 2:07:00 AM
Ok, this is one product I seriously cannot live without now that I've tried it! It acts as a "pore concealer" by making a "bridge" over pores. It doesn't really have a color to it, though it comes in light and deep. I use the light and I am GGG/MMM NC 42-ish. You only need a little bit and you just smooth it on- you have to make sure you go in one direction so you're not rubbing INTO your pores. It has an amazing silky texture to it too. I have huge pores on and around my nose and this is the only thing I've found so far that covers them up. I can just wear this and a bit of powder and I'm good to go; but it really has an awesome finish when worn underneath foundation. It can also be worn over foundation. It does control slightly, but I wouldn't recommend using it for that purpose, because it is meant to be a concealer. I love that it doesn't clog my pores, which would make them bigger. One tube lasts me about 3-4 months with daily use on nose and t-zone. A little goes a long way with this. I have re-purchased and will continue to repurchase in the future unless something better comes out, but so far haven't seen anything like it!

Lip Gloss -DuWop - Lip Venom
glamgyrl 10/10/2004 11:15:00 PM
After hearing SO MANY mixed reviews about this stuff, I decided it was finally time to see what the fuss was all about. I put it on and a few minutes later I look in the mirror and my lips look prettier than ever! It does tingle, but I love it and I wish the sensation would last longer. My lips look far more defined and it brings a beautiful, sheer rosiness and shine that even DH notices and likes. This has become my HG lip product!

Treatments -Sally Hansen - Wax Strips
glamgyrl 4/14/2004 12:28:00 PM
I buy a pack of these guys once a month, and I love them. I have really coarse hair, and it rips all of them right out. It takes just a few seconds to fix up eyebrows, upper lips or anywhere else you find some strays, and the oil really soothes your skin. For those who weren't satisfied with it, make sure you start with clean oil free skin, rub the strips together and apply the strip in direction of hair growth. then pull your skin taut, and rip the strip in the opposite direction; if you do it properly, I don't see how it can rip your skin or not pull out hair, as mine is pretty subborn! TIP: when you buy a pack of these, there is always a $1 off coupon inside the box : )

Liquid -Laura Mercier - Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation
glamgyrl 3/3/2004 11:02:00 PM
I love this foundation! It's worth the expense because I dilute it with water (coverage is still excellent). I tried the LM primer underneath it, and it made my face soooo shiny because of the silicone. I recommend using an oil-free moisturizer, letting it absorb into the skin, then applying the foundation with fingers, mixed with a few drops of water. I love that it stays looking fresh all day. Definitely need a loose powder to set it; I just have to use blotting papers in the summertime midday (NC humidity).

Lip Treatments -Smith's Rosebud Salve - Smith's Rosebud Salve
glamgyrl 3/3/2004 10:41:00 PM
I LOOVE the rosy scent, and in addition to keeping my lips soft and kissable, I use it on my cuticles during the winter to keep hangnails and snags at bay. Plus, the container is really cute! Definitely worth more than the $5 you'll pay for it!!
