Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous Waterproof
freshpineapple 1/14/2011 11:20:00 PM
I bought this mascara based on reviews and have used nothing else for the last three years. Like most women my number one criteria for mascara is that it decorate my lashes, not the skin under my eyes and this is the only brand that really stays put for me. I notice that other people are saying it smudges a lot for them, which is interesting since this is the only kind that Doesn't smudge for me. Must be our individual chemistries. I would not say that it adds much volume, but that's ok for me. The non-waterproof version was totally useless, instant crazed racoon.

Lotions/ Creams -Neutrogena - Norwegian Formula Hand Cream

This product is a classic. I recently bought a tube having not used it for 20 years or so. It hasn't changed and is the best cream I've ever used for really dry hands and feet.

Lotions/ Creams -Lubriderm - Seriously Sensitive Lotion

BEWARE! Always do a patch test - even if you have NEVER had an allergic reaction to a lotion before. I hadn't.This lotion has given me a serious chemical burn. I usually use the Lubriderm with Oats formula on my face, but when my drugstore was out I bought the 'sensitive' formula. It's been two days and my entire face and neck have progressed from tight and red to raw and breaking out in thousands of tiny bumps. It hurts to talk, smile or otherwise move my face.

Eye Makeup Remover -Almay - Gentle Gel Eye Make Up Remover

This gave me chemical burn. The consistency is gooey and thick - more or less the least appealing texture for putting so near your eye. It is also VERY hard to get off, which is a problem as I appear to be very allergic to it. My eyelids are all puffed out and bright red. (24 hours after use)

Lotions/ Creams -St. Ives - Collagen/Elastin Lotion

Yes! Thank You! I further this motion. This USED to be fabulous. Now, the new scent makes it HIDEOUS. Can St. Ives please wake up from it's scent-induced coma and fix this mess?! (I even went to the trouble, about two months ago, of going to the company site and sending them a note about it - a thing I often threaten but never do. No reply as of yet, but hopefully the emails and voicemails are overflowing with our complaints)

Skincare - Body -Sally Hansen - Express Wax Hair Removal Kit
freshpineapple 1/13/2007 12:11:00 AM
For some reason I've felt really turned off by razors recently. Anyhow, I was in t he bowels of the Midtown Kmart looking at 4-packs of Lady's Quattro (or some such pink monstrosity) razorblade heads, when I saw that a four pack of razor replacements was $11 while a crazy waxing kit that claimed to smell of white chocolate was only $9, I thought - It won't work, but it'll be amusing and with any luck the smell will kill some of my housemates. I'd had a HORRIBLE experience many years ago with those "wax strips" that looked like heavy-duty packing tape, so as I said, my expectations were nil. However, I have to say that my legs (lower only, I ignore the upper) are currently 90% smooth. Aside from the aforementionned packing-tape fiasco I have NO prior waxing experience - so some of the nuances are lost on me. And I also used up a lot of the strips and very little of the wax, so I'm a bit confused about that. But if I can find a source for more paper strips I may be able to stick it the man who makes $2.50 razor heads for some time to come. Yeah!

Mascara -Wet 'n' Wild - h2o proof (waterproof) mascara
freshpineapple 1/12/2007 11:49:00 PM
Technically I can't claim that water in the form of tears or rain caused this to mascara to give me undereye shadows 2 hours after application. The mascara migrated off my lashes onto my face of its own accord. So perhaps it can still claim it's waterproof-ness. Whatever - it sucks.

Sunscreen -Alba Botanica - Green Tea Spf 30 Sunscreen
freshpineapple 1/10/2007 10:05:00 PM
I like this sunscreen a lot. The smell, the consistency, no breakouts - all much better than the Clinique City Block I had been using. It works for days at the beach/in the mountains. I don't use it every day though, and I'd like to find a less heavy sunscreen for daily wear that I like as much as this one.

Scrubs -St. Ives - Apricot Scrub Blemish and Blackhead Control

I first found MUA about a year ago in a desperate search to find some products that would not actively cause more acne than they helped. I was using Clinique's 3-step products at the time. Thanks to the reviews of this product I started using it once a day in the shower. I stopped all other cleansing products and washed my face otherwise only with a washcloth and warm water (I don't wear much makeup). My breakouts decreased considerably and my skin texture was noticeably better. I switched to Lubriderm for a moisturizer - so not only was my skin better, I was saving money and time. Finally, my skin stopped breaking out almost completely when I succeeded in giving up caffeine for a while. It took me three months to wean myself, but the results are more dramatic and comprehensive for me than any product switch.
