Blush -MAC - Matte Blush - Frankly Scarlet
rated 3 of 5

This is a wierd product. The colour is a kind of...bright red with a rose pinkish undertone...and does it have a kind of orange undertone??? whatever. unwearable applied dry, i like to dab my finger on the cake, and apply in a lotion: foundation, lip gloss, whatever - like a pigment. then, it is oh so fabulous and my favourite ever blush!

Eye Shadow -Max Factor - eyeshadow singles

the best makeup buy around...to my mind comparable in quality to my expensive chanel shadows, soft and workable, beautifully shimmery and iridescent shades, buildable, blendable, very longlasting. max factor...WOW. if i hadn't seen it, i wouldn't have believed it. cannot rave about these shadows enough. there must be a makeup god after all!

Blush -Clarins - multi-blush
rated 5 of 5
floatinglili 5/12/2005 10:33:00 AM

This is the best cream blush formulation that I have used, and for that reason, I wish they would bring out a squillion colours!! The lightest touch really lifts your face, although if you're anything like me, you love the effect so much you just have to overapply :-P ! The 'tender walnut' - never thought i would get this shade - but the effect is fantastic, voila! natural country girl. not a drab brown by any means, this actually can have some use as a multi! converted me to cream blush, but at this stage, i'm like: 'accept no substitutes!' :P

Blush -Clarins - Multi-Blush in Tender Lychee
rated 5 of 5
floatinglili 5/12/2005 10:29:00 AM

I've got two of these blushes, the brown one, and this, the lychee. I had to get it after having the 'tender walnut' and loving the finish. I was surprised becos clarins is not the company that springs to mind when i think makeup (as opposed to skin care). The application is easy, somehow this product does not seem to 'grab' your skin in an obvious blotch the way other cream blushes can, it really has a natural 'glow'. In fact, it's so nice that it's easy to overdo it, you don't need to go back to the pan for more, although you probably will , because it's like: 'instant beautiful!!' i really wish it came in a wider variety of colours, the finish is fantastic - the best cream blush! and, unlike fellow posters, i really like the packaging. doesn't take up unnecessary room in your toilette bag, and you can see the colour at a glance. Go Clarins!

Concealers -Make Up For Ever - Lift Concealer
rated 5 of 5
floatinglili 5/12/2005 10:15:00 AM

This is the best liquid concealer I have used thus far. And it does have a 'lift' component, it reflects light. However, I have relatively heavy shadows, so these days I tend to use a paste concealer underneath... :) just getting old (at 33) I guess. But I have used this stuff by itself fine. It is a light, and effective, liquid concealer. It's a kind of 'necessary love affair' product. I'd feel upset if it wasn't around.

Skincare - Face -Ultraceuticals - Ultra-C Treatment Cream
rated 5 of 5
floatinglili 5/12/2005 10:11:00 AM

Hmmm, I guess I'm not really surprised by these generally negative reviews, although I don't agree with the details of them. I just keep my unopened cream in the fridge until I need it, no problem. The whole point of the cream is that it is a stable vitamin C product. I believe this company has integrity. I also don't think this product has any worth for younger people (read: people in their 20s). Why use an anioxidant/anti-aging product when you don't need it? It's for oldies, that are prepared to use a thicker cream at night. Hey, at my age, it feels comforting! :) It's not going to work miracles. But I would be lying if I said it hadn't improved my skin, to the point where I like to have this stuff around. It's strength is particularly in healing sundamage, pigmentation has definitely lifted since I started using this cream. If I put it on at night, I know I'm going to look good in the morning :) After a steady six months of nightly use, your skin does seem to get used to it. It is worth easing up on it a little, just to get the 'boost' back. I recommended it to my sister, she has loved it, but recently became tired of the 'heavy' feeling. You have to warm the stuff up in your fingers, and then spread it out. There's no denying it's heavy. The company has dealt with this by releasing a lighter cream, which I've never used. Personally, I don't mind, I'll probably try the lighter version next time. I just appreciate a company that actually attempts to sell a product that actually has the good stuff in it. Their cleansers are also really awesome. I think I'm difficult to impress. But I am impressed. No perfumes to make the stuff smell good. That can be a downer for some people. I'm hard core. One of my favourites.

Highlighters -NARS - The Multiple in Copacabana
rated 2 of 5
floatinglili 5/2/2005 10:11:00 AM

wtf? I hadn't read these sparkling reviews, but was dying to love cocacabana anyway. I'd salivated over it for months, before taking the plunge and paying a packet. When it finally turned up in the mail, I couldn't believe it! I was expecting a great heavy thing (ok I'd been dreaming for a while :-P ). The colour was good, but the finish was unremarkable. Even worse, it had worn off within about 20 mins!! Not good. I did a test with one swipe coca vs one swipe of mac pigment mixed with balm. I got better, finer and brigher coverage with the pigment, and it lasted much, much longer. I swapped the multi within the day. Still paying the credit card bill though :(

Treatments -Estee Lauder - Advanced Night Repair (Serum)
rated 4 of 5
floatinglili 5/2/2005 10:05:00 AM

I generally think that EL is overpriced, overhyped, so no-one was more surprised than me when this stuff actually worked. Like a treat! Maybe it was that I had just had a baby (literally) but I have never seen my skin so beautiful. I almost wept when my little bottle ran out. But I didn't replace it. Relaxed, luminous, radiant...just like I had just produced my first child! ;)

Blush -MAC - Golden Kitty and Primpin Duo
rated 5 of 5
floatinglili 5/2/2005 10:00:00 AM

Love this! The Primpin is a raspberry CORAL - really different from most stuff out there on the blush market - and the Golden Kitty is a really wearable gold. Used it for the first time today - the gold side as a highlighter and eye shade, primpin as, well, a blush ;) couldn't be happier. throwing all my low-end blushes out NOW, i can never go back!

Eye Shadow -Chanel - Les 4 Ombres-Vanites Quad
rated 5 of 5
floatinglili 5/2/2005 9:55:00 AM

I'll never look at eyeshadow quads in the same way again. So well designed, so Chanel. The colours are really long lasting on me, and stay true. They are specially selected to work together, making an astonishingly versatile compact. Identifiably Chanel, and yet able to be worked in a million ways. Hats off to their colour designer! Love it, and wanting to collect more of these four-pans.

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Electric Glossimer
rated 5 of 5
floatinglili 5/2/2005 9:51:00 AM

Never thought I would ever buy a gloss this colour. It is a complex colour - reddish/pinkish/goldish/coral. Phew! But the MUA put it on in a makeover and I had to have it. My first Chanel gloss! Really surprised at how long it lasted! I can never go back to cheap gloss again. And I lerv this outrageous colour. Leaves a nice 'stain' behind too. :)

Bronzers -Chanel - Irreelle Soleil - Silky Bronzing Powder
rated 5 of 5

Sometimes you need that magic ingredient to take the pasties away after a hard night partying, studying, or looking after the baby. This is that 'something'. Easy, flattering subtle. I've found it! HG

Primer/ Corrector -Make Up For Ever - Corrective Makeup Base
rated 3 of 5
floatinglili 4/26/2005 12:33:00 PM

This stuff sat in the drawer for AGES, I bought the blue one on recommendation for my wedding and didn't know how to use it. But eventually, I dragged it out, and I have to say, I'm impressed! It is difficult to use these kinds of products. I use a foundation brush to get a very thin layer where I need it (mostly on the T-zone), then kind of 'rub' it into my skin with my fingers - just like I do with my foundation in fact, although I'm pretty happy going without foundation when I've got this stuff on. It evens out skin tone, and actually cuts down the shinies. I held back on using this product for ages becos I was worried about too much product on the fact, after moisturiser etc etc, but actually, it's quite handy for providing a 'no-makeup makeup' look. But a little goes a long way, and you do have to blend well. A professional product, that might be beyond the scope or interest of the more casual makeup user.

Sunscreen -La Roche Posay - Anthelios XL ,SPF 60+
rated 5 of 5
floatinglili 4/4/2005 10:42:00 PM

After hanging back for so long, I finally got hold of this product, sight unseen. I can't believe I put up with all the second rate products for so long! No more greasies, no more stinging eyes...geez I hate sunscreen. This stuff let me stop worrying. Finally, a sunscreen that actually feels good for my skin. Thank you LRP, I'll be back. If only you were easier to get hold of!

Loose Powders -Make Up For Ever - Super Matte Loose Powder
rated 5 of 5
floatinglili 4/4/2005 11:02:00 AM

This is the best loose powder I have ever used. It stays on ALL DAY (really), yet is never matte or heavy. In fact, I thought it was misleading to call it 'matte' when it is luminous, and flattering. But it definitely controls shines, in a big way. I love this powder, and am very, very impressed. Also, it comes in 28 g. size, for the price, weight for weight, it is cheaper than L'Oreal Translucide!
