Polishes -Essie - Fishnet Stockings

GORGEOUS color. Somehow smoky and bright at the same time; a very unusual shade of red. I get compliments on the color whenever I apply it. However...while i would recommend this as a toenail color, this chips quickly and weirdly when worn on the hands. In all fairness, I'm not great at applying nail polish, and chipping is not uncommon. But this seems to fade along the base within a day or two. Not a fan of that. For people who are actually decent at applying nail polish and want a complex red, this is a great pick.

Styling Products -Oribe - Dry Texturizing Spray
rated 3 of 5
expira 3/28/2013 7:17:00 PM

After having read all the raves from seemingly everywhere on this product, I was eager to see what it would do to my kinda thin, very fine, oily, straight hair. I have the sort of hair that, if I do nothing to it, clings to my scalp, and my bangs tend to look pretty limp after a few hours. I'll give the product this: it definitely gave my hair a lot of body and some volume. It looked loads better with this product than when I do nothing to my hair. However, within a few hours of application, my scalp would get really oily. Although I wouldn't lose any volume, my roots would get that piecey look of unwashed hair, even when it wasn't the case. In fact, I could only use this spray when I had washed my hair the night before; when I tried to use it as a dry shampoo, it only made my hair look, and feel, dirtier. I'd give this a 2.5 stars, given the price and the fact that it didn't do for my hair type what it advertised. Still, since it didn't damage my hair, as many products have, I'll bump it up to a 3 as opposed to down to a 2. Note: the scent is crazy strong the first time you use it-- so strong that it gave me a headache. It gets less pungent by the second spritz and is actually very pleasant.

Eyeliner -Bourjois - Regard Effet Metallise - 52 Brun Inoxydable Metallic Eyeliner
rated 2 of 5
expira 10/26/2011 1:36:00 AM

I wish I could give this a 2.5 for half marks, but I'm pessimistically rounding down. It's really easy to use--the lead (?) is very soft and draws on the lid without pulling, which is great for preventing crows feet. It's also easy to take off with soap and water, good for those of us with sensitive eyes. What I didn't like was that it FLAKED like nothing else even if all I had been doing all day was sitting at my computer. Flaky eyeliner is bad for a) contact lens wearers b) people who need to look professional for work, and not like some kid who's out for a night in the clubs. Too bad, because the color was pretty (blackish-grey) and I could draw all sorts of fun shapes, but onto the next eyeliner!

Styling Products -Kiehls - Creme with Silk Groom
rated 4 of 5
expira 10/26/2011 1:28:00 AM

I have fine, thin, greasy, straight hair that, as you can imagine, is a joy to style. Pretty much every product other than those formulated specifically for my hair type make me look as if I haven't showered for a few days. This product, however, when used in a paritcular manner, makes my hair look a lot healthier than it has right to look. All I do is takea shower at night, apply a tiny amount to my hair and hit the sack. The next day, my hair look shiny and thicker, somehow, and only takes a few minutes of heat styling to look great. For some reason, this stuff works better for me than proper conditioner. Until I find something better, I'm sticking with this stuff. A warning that too much of this stuff makes my hair feel absolutely disgusting.

Cleansers -Avene - deep pore foaming cleanser
rated 5 of 5
expira 2/12/2011 1:41:00 AM

I LOVE this cleanser. I bought some on a whim when I was living in Japan, and my skin never looked better. Japanese summers, with the high humidity, really broke me out, and this managed to dry up the breakouts while not totally drying out my skin. I definitely think oily skin would benefit the most out of this, though, as it can leave even my semi-combination cheeks parched. The tube is also somewhat magical--with regular, twice-daily use, I got four months out of each tube. Awesome. That having been said, it isn't sold in the US :(. So sad!

Cleansers -Chidoriya - Azuki Micrograins & Brown Sugar Facial Soap
rated 2 of 5
expira 2/4/2011 1:36:00 PM

I'd hate to be the wet blanket, but this soap destroyed my skin. I loved all the reviews and the fact that the soap was natural, but it both dried my skin out and made me break out in a bad case of cosmetic acne. The product itself comes in an adorable package and includes some amazing ingredients: camellia oil, azuki beans. I used to live in Japan, and was always told that camellia oil was the secret ingredient to the beautiful skin that a many women had there. Unfortunately, it just didn't do the same for me. It does get great reviews and it isn't overly pricey, so it's worth a shot if you're interested in natural products.

Moisturizers -Dr. Hauschka - Rose day cream light
rated 2 of 5
expira 12/23/2010 5:33:00 PM

This product smells great, and while I'm sure it's quite moisturizing, I was distracted from that effect by the massive cropping of acne on my face. Something about this cream triggered an outbreak the likes of which I haven't seen since I was a teenager. So, so, SO not recommended for those people with acne-prone skin. Incidentally, I started using it as a hand and foot cream, and it's great.

Lip Gloss -Clinique - superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Lilac
rated 4 of 5
expira 12/21/2010 8:58:00 PM

The color of this lip balm is just gorgeous, and gives just a hint of tint and lots of shine. It's very moisturizing as well--much better than most proper lip balms I've owned. The only reason I didn't give this a perfect score is that it has absolutely no staying power on me. Seriously; I can get maybe thirty minutes out of it, maybe. That being said, most lipcolors have no staying power on me, and if that isn't a concern for you, I'd definitely suggest buying this.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Healthy Defense Oil-Free Sunblock, SPF 45
rated 2 of 5
expira 11/15/2010 5:50:00 PM

This sunscreen is...mah. It doesn't break me out, so good on them, but it doesn't really seem to protect me from the sun, either. With most sunscreens, I seem to be able to stretch out reapplying time to once every three or so hours, but with this, I'm burned within 90 minutes. Overall, it won't clog your pores, as promised, but an SPF of 45 seems a little excessive.

Sunscreen -Badger - SPF 30
rated 3 of 5
expira 5/17/2010 9:22:00 AM

Like many reviewers have commented on before, it leaves a thick white residue on your face after you apply it. I've gotten a technique down where I just apply it very quickly to let it soak it, and while the end result is better than if I did nothing at all, my face still doesn't look quite...right. Furthermore, it doesn't sit right with face powder; if you powder your face, remember to apply the sunscreen at least thirty minutes before you apply the powder, and then hope for the best. That being said, it does offer awesome protection. I brought my winter-pale face to Australia last winter/Australian summer, and this stuff prevented it from turning lobster. In fact, one day I used a Nivea sunscreen, and it was stunning to notice how much better this Badger sunscreen is. So...I'd buy again if going somewhere I would burn easily. Otherwise...nah.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Fresh Foaming Cleanser
rated 2 of 5
expira 4/1/2008 9:23:00 PM

Dang, I really wanted to like this cleanser! It was recommended by all the dermatologists I knew, and it's supposed to work well with Retin-A. The smell is strongly chemical, but I tried to ignore it and not imagine that I was rubbing bleach into my skin. Despite the "gentle" claims, this stuff dried my slimy, oily skin out in just a week, and by three weeks my skin had turned into a stinging Sahara. I don't think so!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Lash Architect Mascara Waterproof Formula
rated 4 of 5
expira 4/1/2008 9:16:00 PM

I know the reviews aren't great, but, for one of the few times in many years, I bought this mascara without first consulting MUA. Gotta say, glad it worked out that way! I wear this mascara at night and really load it on for a sexy, dramatic look. It doesn't clump up on me, so I can really do crazy looks with it. For everyday use, however, it's a pretty boring one-coater.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum Express Waterproof
rated 3 of 5
expira 4/1/2008 9:12:00 PM

When searching the internet for mascaras appropriate for contact-lens wearers, I came across this mascara. It is really does plump up my lashes and it definitely lasts all day. This mascara can flake, though, so I don't know if it's ideal for those who wear contacts, afterall.

Blush -BeneFit Cosmetics - Dandelion
rated 3 of 5
expira 4/1/2008 9:07:00 PM

My friend got this for me as a present since it looks fantastic on her gorgeous Mediterranean skintone. On my pasty, cool complexion, however, this blush looked clownish and orange-y and just wrong! It was shimmery and nice on my face, and cute in its little box, but just the wrong color.

I love this polish! A friend of mine glanced at my toes recently and went immediately out to buy Chanel Vamp. I had to laugh at her--Vixen is a gorgeous color at a great price. Score!
