Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Naked Palette
rated 5 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 8:51:00 PM

A fine investment if you're looking for a palette of quality pigmented, buttery smooth neutrals. If you prefer matte shadows, this may not be for you, as it only contains two (Naked and Buck). The two matte shades are perfect crease colours for me. There are so many possibilities with this palette, in terms of combinations. I like to play around with the colours. I haven't really ever had a "blah" day with this palette. The lightest shade (Virgin) makes for a wonderful browbone highlight, and an inner corner highlight. Shades such as Darkhorse, Hustle, Creep and Gunmetal are awesome for smudging into the lashline. They are shimmery indeed, but oh so pretty and enhancing. I like Sin, Sidecar and Half Baked as lid colours. Smog looks good as an 'outer v' colour. See, I find use for every single shadow in the palette. Blend some together, mix with other palettes, go nuts! I use all of my shadows with Urban Decay's Primer Potion and never have any problems with creasing, smudging, fading or fallout, etc.

Lipstick -Revlon - ColorBurst Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti
rated 4 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 8:26:00 PM

I debated back and forth whether I should purchase this product or not, then I read a review comparing it to the Revlon gloss in "Coral Reef" and knew right away that this lip butter NEEDS to be in my collection. I found it for about $6 (CAD). I really do love this colour ~ it's not a whambam orange on my lips, but more of a coral but on the orange side. It is much like Coral Reef, indeed. It can be worn alone, or paired with a gloss. Either way, this lip butter looks lovely and applies smooth like butter. I am in desperate need of dupe for when I run out, for once it's gone I will not be repurchasing. Revlon recently changed their animal testing policy so I will not purchase their products anymore.

Eyes -MAC - Paint Pot in Rubenesque
rated 4 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 3:10:00 PM

Perfect for on the go. Many days I wake up and don't feel like doing the eyeshadow thing. One layer of Rubenesque provides my lids with a subtle wash of peachy gold shimmer. I can swipe on one or two more layers to make the colour stand out more. I see many reviewers saying this is rosy or pink on their skin, but on my tan/olive skintone this appears more peachy/gold/almost a slight orange. I compare it to a sunset. It's THAT pretty that I don't feel the need to put any eyeshadows over top of it. Packaging is wonderful and compact, easily portable, creamy formula, applies like butter to the lids. I really enjoy this product but will not repurchase once I'm out, due to MAC's new animal testing policy.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lip Lites in Strawberry Parfait
rated 5 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 2:54:00 PM

I bought this little gloss at my local dollar store for literally $1 (CAD). As soon as I put it on, my first thought was 'wow, this is pretty!' and then 'mmm, it smells good too.' then it was 'oh gosh, I can't believe I spent $24 on NARS Turkish Delight just a few months ago!' And to make matters worse, this gloss is even better than Turkish Delight: it smells better, goes on more evenly, slightly pinker, longer lasting, more affordable. I'll stop there. Hopefully someone reads this review and I help them save money.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Color Icon Trio - Sweet as Candy
rated 5 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 2:44:00 PM

I love this palette. It never fails me. In fact, I notice I get a lot of compliments when I wear these three colours together. The pink colour on the lid seems to wear really well with my brown eyes, and then the brown in the crease is actually one of my favourite crease colours, it must set everything off. And the off-white cream colour as a browbone highlight and in the inner corners lights everything up. When I travel, I make sure I bring this trio with me because it's a good go-to when I don't want to lug a ton of eyeshadows around. Wet 'n' Wild is very affordable, and does not test on animals.

Blush -E.L.F. - Studio Blush in Candid Coral
rated 5 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 2:36:00 PM

People are constantly complaining that the pigmentation of this blush isn't great, but do you ever think that maybe it isn't supposed to be super pigmented? I personally enjoy how it's so light and provides a lovely flush of peach/coral on my olive/tan skin. I'm about NC 25-35 (depends how tan I am) and no matter what, this blush looks good; it shows up as a slight peach/coral flush on my cheeks, but my favourite part about it is that it has that same gold shimmery cast that the NARS Orgasm blush has. Sturdy, sleek packaging, little mirror inside, at just $3 (CAD), it's very affordable. I love it so much, it's one of those blushes that I've hit pan on. Will repurchase.

Lip Liners -Prestige - Rosewood
rated 5 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 12:16:00 PM

Wonderful rose-coloured lip liner. It applies so smoothly and evenly without any tugging whatsoever. Can be worn alone, or paired with a balm, or accompanied with a lipstick. No matter what I do, it flatters and defines my lips. Also, it's waterproof and long-wearing so the lasting power is above average. I appreciate that the cap actually clicks on and stays on without it popping off in my make-up bag. The twist up/self-sharpening style is better than sharpened pencils. It looks identical to so many high-end lip liners, yet I think I only paid around $6 (CAD) for it.

Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Taylor Swift Wonderstruck
rated 4 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 12:06:00 PM

My best friend bought me this for Christmas. I don't have a PhD in describing scents, so all I am going to say is this perfume has such a pretty fruity/floral scent with a suprising soft sandalwood/musk which I just wouldn't expect from a Taylor Swift perfume. I really like it though; suitable for day time or night time wear. The bottle looks nice on my vanity, and has cute little charms wrapped around the cap. One charm broke off of mine, which was kind of upsetting. When I run out, I will not repurchase, as Elizabeth Arden is known to test products on animals.

Concealers -Essence - Cover Stick
rated 4 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 11:38:00 AM

I like this more than I like my MAC concealer, and at a quarter of the price. I use it on any dark spots that acne scars have left behind. It does a great job of covering them up. It's not uber long lasting, but I still find the lasting power is better than MAC's. The colour match is perfect and blends right into my skin. If I were to use it for the under eye area, I'd recommend using a brush instead of using it directly, as under eye area is sensitive and delicate.

Eyeliner -Essence - Gel Eyeliner - London Baby!
rated 5 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 11:33:00 AM

It's not quite black, brown, taupe, grey, nor aubergine. But oddly enough, a combination of all of them. Thank you Essence for giving us this awesomely unique colour! I urge you to try it ~ you will not be underwhelmed! For $3.99 (CAD), this little gem provides you with a perfect creamy formula, easy to work with, long-lasting and super pigmented product! I like Essence better than my two previous favourites: Physicians Formula and MAC. The best part about Essence is their affordability and the fact that they don't test on animals.

Moisturizers -Weleda - Pomegranate Firming Night Cream
rated 5 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 11:24:00 AM

I found this product in a 30 mL tube at Marshalls for under $10. I figured that's a safe price to test it out, as I had seen the exact same product online for over TRIPLE the price. I'm 23 years old; looking to delay any signs of aging as best as I can. My skin breaks out very easily when I apply any sort of moisturizer to it. After 3+ months of using this nightly, I have finally found a product I can apply before bed, leave on over night and wake up to beautiful, healthy-looking skin and NO BREAK OUTS. I wake up and my skin feels and appears more radiant, as cliché as it sounds. I also like the ingredients and the scent. The packaging is small and convenient enough for travel. I will repurchase, hopefully I can find it again for the same great price. Weleda does not test on animals.

Lip Gloss -NYX - Mega gloss- Sponge Cake
rated 5 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 11:07:00 AM

Beautiful pinkened brown shade with lots of golden glitter. I don't feel the glitter on my lips, nor does it look like a disco ball. It's finely milled and looks very pretty! This particular gloss works well with my natural lip colour, also stunning when I pair it with just about any lipstick. It has a sweet cherry scent to it and very cute/sleek packaging. It has a doe-foot applicator which makes it easy to apply this gloss smoothly and evenly on the lips. This is a very comfortable gloss; no stickiness, not heavy, average lasting power. I love this gloss and will certainly be repurchasing.

Mascara -Sephora - Lash Plumper
rated 4 of 5
everysunflower 8/15/2012 10:56:00 AM

With a name like "Lash Plumper," it's bound to set expectations high. I was anticipating this mascara to deliver tons of volume. I was a bit let down when it took layer after layer to achieve any sort of volume. The lengthening is fair and the lash separation is fantastic. Even after all of those layers, my lashes did not clump together. I still give this product a four out of five rating because it still makes my lashes look pretty, long, defined, separated, dark and full. I just would have preferred more volume.

Lip Gloss -Joe Fresh Style - Candy
rated 5 of 5
everysunflower 6/20/2012 4:02:00 PM

I found this gloss buried at the bottom of a price-reduced make-up bin. I paid around $3 (CAD) for this gem. It's a bright, bubblegum pink with very, very tiny gold shimmers which are barely noticable on the lips, nor can you feel them. They basically just add to the shine. The colour is highly pigmented, especially when swatched on the hand, but when applied to the lips it appears semi-opaque and is very easily buildable. I would describe the formula as thicker than usual, almost 'creamy' and a tad bit sticky. I personally don't mind it, as it aids in the staying power. I do not notice a scent to this gloss. The packaging is a little bulky in a glass-looking tube, but I love the 'brush' type applicator. It makes it easy to evenly distribute on the lips precisely. Will repurchase and look at other shades.

Shampoo -Organix - Ever Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy
rated 2 of 5
everysunflower 6/20/2012 3:27:00 PM

I found this shampoo to be extremely drying in my hair. That's not what I expect shampoo to do. It's supposed to be nourishing and hydrating and, in this shampoo's case, it's supposed to contribute to straightening the tresses. All of these claims were false and actually quite disappointing. The only positive aspect of this shampoo is the lovely coconut scent and the fact that it's cruelty-free. Unfortunately, that's not enough to get me to repurchase. I'd also like to point out that the Organix shampoos & conditioners contain many ingredients that are not "natural" or "organic" at all.
