Moisturizers -Jurlique - Calendula Cream
rated 3 of 5
eskimo122 1/18/2013 5:10:00 PM

I purchased this after my favorite moisturizer (l'occitane ultra comfort cream) was discontinued. I've been using it for over a month and so far it hasn't broken out my sensitive, acne-prone skin but its just not a great moisturizer for the winter months. My skin is oily and acne prone but i have some very dry peeling spots and the calendula cream does not do a good job of getting rid of them! this would be a better moisturizer for the summer. for reference, as suggested by other reviewers, i place some product on my fingers to warm it and dab a thin layer on my face.

Styling Products -TiGi - Catwalk Root Boost
rated 4 of 5
eskimo122 5/24/2012 8:59:00 AM

I had been using bigsexyhair root pump plus but was getting fed up with the sticky texture it left on my roots. my hairstylist suggested tigi root boost so i decided to give it a try. i was skeptical at the super light airy texture of this product, but i am actually pretty impressed. i apply a liberal amount to the roots of my fine, limp hair and blow dry upside-down. with this product i feel like i get the volume without the sticky feeling in my hair.

Top/Base Coats -Essie - Good to Go! The Fastest Drying Top Coat
rated 4 of 5
eskimo122 1/31/2012 10:51:00 PM

I switched to this top coat after getting fed up with seche vite's goopy annoying formula. this top coat is the opposite. it's super thin and very easy to spread over the nail. it dries fast like it says it does. it gets 4 stars instead of 5 because the super thin consistency sometimes leaves too thin of a layer and the nails aren't very shiny.

Polishes -Butter London - Tart With a Heart
rated 2 of 5
eskimo122 1/31/2012 10:40:00 PM

this color is absolutely gorgeous but it doesn't adhere to the nail. without a base coat, the polish simply slides off the nail in huge chunks within hours of application. with a base coat and a top coat, you get a few hours of wear but have chipping within the first day. i am so disappointed that this polish is so expensive but impossible to wear without instant chipping. I continue to wear it because it was so expensive and is so lovely, but have never gotten more than a few hours of a perfect manicure.

Polishes -Butter London - The Black Knight
rated 2 of 5
eskimo122 1/31/2012 10:35:00 PM

This polish is a beautiful color but it chips instantly! I applied this the first time with no base coat, 3 coats of black knight, and my essie top coat. within hours, huge chunks of this polish were peeling off my nails. it simply does not adhere to the nail at all! because this polish is so expensive, i refused to give up on it. i applied it again with a sticky base coat, 3 coats of black knight, and my usual topcoat again. I didn't have huge chunks sliding off my nails, but i did have chips the first day. for me, this polish is simply impossible. the fact that it is so expensive makes this lack of quality even worse. 2 stars because its a beautiful color, but minus 3 because it just doesnt wear well

Powder -Physicians Formula - Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation
rated 4 of 5
eskimo122 11/13/2011 11:57:00 PM

As other reviewers pointed out, the colors on this product run extremely light. I am very pale but purchased the translucent medium color and this seems appropriate for my skin color. The applicator sponge is useless as far as i'm concerned. I apply this with a big fluffy powder brush and have no application issues. Most importantly though, this product does what it's supposed to do - protect your skin from the sun! I brought my Healthy Wear powder on a road trip across Nevada/Utah/Colorado in July. I was outside in the sunlight for 8+ hours a day but my face never burned thanks to this product. That is the most important factor for me and that's why i give it such a high rating.

Polishes -China Glaze - fairy dust
rated 5 of 5
eskimo122 1/31/2011 6:34:00 PM

this is awesome. i bought fairy dust after purchasing color club revvvolution and being dissatisfied with the amount of holo in it. fairy dust has a TON of holo glitter. very sparkly, even in indoor lighting situations.

Polishes -China Glaze - Midnight Mission
rated 5 of 5

this color is SO PRETTY! I got it at sally beauty supply. It's a deep navy with silver flecks that look like a cross between a glittery look and a frost look - very unique. i used a cheap base coat and top coat that i got as a gift one year and it lasted a week without chipping. color is pretty opaque, i used one thick coat and that was enough.

Palettes -MAC - Shadowy Lady Quad - Cult of Cherry
rated 5 of 5
eskimo122 10/17/2010 10:54:00 PM

wow, so this is why everyone buys mac! this quad was my first mac purchase and i was not disappointed. the colors are very pretty, but i was more impressed with the texture and application of the product. there was NO FALLOUT, even with the dark colors that come in this set. the light muted pink is kind of a dud but the other 3 colors are great, especially the vibrant blue. the dark purple was not as pigmented as i was expecting but its great to use with the lighter shimmery purple. they have good staying power if applied over a primer. i will be purchasing more mac in the future

Hair Removal -Silk'n - SensEpil
rated 3 of 5
eskimo122 10/17/2010 10:45:00 PM

i've had this for a few months and will write a preliminary review with updates to come. i've used the sensepil 5 times now on my legs and i have some significant patches where there is little hair growth. i've heard many mixed reviews so only time will tell whether or not the patches increase in size and further hair reduction is achieved. the website says the cartridges contain 750 flashes, which is enough to do your entire body once. i used the same cartridge for FIVE treatments on my legs, and i'm a pretty average size/weight person. there is a 60 day return policy on this product, which is barely enough time to tell whether or not it is working. if you are trial purchasing this, i would recommend that you begin your treatments on a high level (4 or 5) because the first two times i did treatments on levels 1 and 2 i saw no results. the machine itself is finicky. i am pale as a ghost, especially on my legs, but sometimes the skintone alert button goes off and does not let me use the device. when that happens, i simply move to another area of my leg and try again. for $500, the machine should work the first time. if purchasing, i recommend internet searching for coupon codes. i randomly searched for coupon codes before purchasing, and i got the device plus a 3 pack of cartridges for $500 instead of just the device. lastly, the light flash produced by the cartridge is incredibly bright and i can't imagine using this without eye protection. i both close my eyes and put a thick piece of cardboard in front of my face before i press the button each time. i can imagine one would get an insane headache if they used this without shielding their eyes somehow. update 3/16/11: I switched to using this once a month because the directions suggest it. this is not a miracle worker. i still have patchiness on my legs, and when i forgot to use it one month i saw some hair regrowth. this product requires a lot of patience, as it can take 1+ years for results. i will continue using it, but would warn not to purchase it if you wish to be hair free in only a few months.

Eye Shadow -NYX - frosted ocean
rated 2 of 5
eskimo122 9/3/2010 8:02:00 PM

i purchased this based on reviews and i am very confused. perhaps my product is defective. the eyeshadow is super powdery/crumbly and i could see it breaking apart in the package as i packed some on the brush. i always put a tissue below my eyes when i apply eyeshadow, but with this eyeshadow i had fallout EVERYWHERE! even after i removed the tissue i kept finding blue eyeshadow all over my face. i usually use lancome eyeshadows and i have never had this problem. the colour is very pretty, but this product is such a pain in the butt to apply that i don't think i'll repurchase it or any other NYX shadows in the future. i also found that if you smudge out the color with your fingers it looks really ruddy, it only maintains the pretty blue color if you pack it on with a brush (and prepare for the mess).

Powder -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder
rated 3 of 5
eskimo122 7/27/2010 11:48:00 PM

i bought this because i found it for $7 at k-mart and i wasnt near a sephora at the time. i usually purchase bare minerals matte powder, which does a MUCH better job of keeping my skin matte. this isn't a bad product, though, especially for the price. i use my big fluffy sephora powder brush to apply, as the little brush it comes with is (not surprisingly) horrific. i also think the packaging of this product was really poorly designed. because the sifter top is an oval, i always end up spilling some powder over each side when i'm trying to swirl it into the brush. the large oval dome over the top also seems like it will crack or fall off as soon as i travel with it. packaging aside, the powder smooths well enough over the skin and i appreciate the fact that it is hypoallergenic and has minimal ingredients (and physician's formula doesn't test on animals!). -1 for poor package design and -1 because my face is shiny midday.

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - I should Coco Soap [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
eskimo122 7/27/2010 6:51:00 PM

i was excited to try this product because i love everything coconut. unfortunately, the smell is very overpowering and icky-sweet like many of the lush scents. i used the soap until it was completely finished because it was so expensive! a 10 dollar chunk only lasted me 2 months. i also found the coconut flakes incredibly abrasive and bothersome to my sensitive skin. additionally, this soap was hard to lather and impossible to use for shaving. i won't be too broken up about the fact that lush is saying goodbye to this soap!

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color
rated 5 of 5
eskimo122 7/27/2010 6:45:00 PM

i don't believe in wasting money on expensive nail polishes, especially when the sally hansen ones perform so well. i never get manicures done at a salon because i always manage to chip my nail polish in an hour or two. the sally hansen diamond strength really lasts. if i apply 2 coats of it i won't get chipping for a week or so. i just recently purchase the color "fairy tale ivory" which is the prettiest color i've ever purchased.

Deodorants -Almay - Clear Gel Antiperspirant & Deodorant
rated 3 of 5
eskimo122 7/27/2010 11:52:00 AM

in general i'm not in love with gel deodorants but the solid almay deodorants do not come fragranced. the scented gel deodorant is pleasant but not overpowering. i also find that the scent lingers for a while and prevents that BO smell that i inevitably get if i use the unscented version during the summer. i mostly repurchase this product because it is one of very few antiperspirants that isn't tested on animals.
