Moisturizers -La Mer - Creme de la mer moisturizer
empressraje 1/19/2006 1:20:00 PM
Warning- this may turn into something resembling a dissertation...(sorry)I started using this cream at the beginning of last winter because my skin can never cope with the change of weather: it gets severely dehydrated and breaks out in acne. This happens every october without fail, and while it is bad enough to have dry, cracked skin with acne, even worse is the scarring that the acne leaves. I suppose it is just the sort of skin that i have which scars, without me even touching the spots. I thought about buying creme de la mer as I had heard about its healing properties and I knew that healing was exactly what my skin needed. However, I am extremely dubious about all of these "wondercreams" available at every single beauty counter, and I am even more distrustful of the SA's who try and push every woman they can harass into buying them. I checked out the reviews for creme de la mer on the internet, and read through many reviews for it here on makeup alley. It appeared that everyone who used it had found that it either worked for you really well, or was really bad for your skin. But I deduced that if it worked for your skin, it did the following three things: a) It hydrated and soothed your skin. b) It healed acne and the scars left from it. c) It prevented and possibly even healed ageing. Well, I wanted all three of those things for my skin and decided to buy a sample of creme de la mer from ebay. I emailed a reviewer here (the lovely byvetteq)and she very kindly advised me how to use this cream effectively, it was obvious that there was a specific way of applying this cream in order for it to work succesfully. The day it arrived, I used it before bed and I desperatly hoped for at least some improvement on my skin as I had a photo shoot the next day. Thankfully, there was an incredible improvement in the moisture, the dryness was 40% healed. After using this cream for a week, I was impressed enough to order the 2oz jar but I knew that it could only be classed a "miracle" cream after I had used it for at least 3 months, with results in all areas. It has now been over 3 months and I have formed my judgement about this cream. Creme de la mer has fulfilled all of my expectations, it goes further than being a rich moisturiser and an acne treatment, creme de la mer continually heals the skin, and any day to day damage. I wish I could show you a "before and after" shot of my face just to show you how the scars I had have faded. If you were to see me now, you would never know that I had acne scars and any little scars that appear now, fade away in a week! This alone makes creme de la mer worth buying, but I also am grateful that it keeps my skin moist, hydrated, and glowing beautifully. I find the "Nasa scientist" story very "american fairytale" but I don't care whether mickey mouse made it, because I love it and I could'nt ask for anything else from a facecream! Cost-wise I must say it suprises me to hear people calling it "very expensive." In what context is it very expensive? I purchased my 2oz jar for 140 sterling, I have used it for 3 months and I still haven't used up a third of it yet. Now I am a single student and I easily spend more than 140 on groceries each month, so personally, I don't feel creme de la mer is expensive. p.s. like many South Asian women, i had some pigmentation ( a little around the mouth area and my forehead was a tiny bit darker than the rest of my face) but this cream has even faded that away and I have never, ever, even heard of a cream that can effectively do that.

so so pretty! i love this- i thought it might be too light for me and make me look washed out as i am north indian (nars shade barcelona). however, i find it flattering and it looks very pretty.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Pigment in Melon

this is an orangey gold colour, which i purchased as a gift for my mother as she likes gold, but she found it too bright. it has since been sitting on my dresser for some years and i just can't bring myself to wear it- there is just nothing special about it that makes me want to put it on. since it is not a unique or exceptionally pretty colour, i don't see what all the hype is about.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Gold Charm Lipglass
empressraje 12/21/2005 6:20:00 PM
this is the ideal gold lipgloss- it is not opaque or metallic (which would just look scary) yet it is definetly a gold gloss, with gold glitter. although i have naturally pinky red lips, the gold colour shows up nicely and the glitter is the perfect size size and texture. this is not a daytime gloss, if you want to wear gold glitter in the day, you need it to be in clear gloss which you can get hold of anywhere. i wouldnt spend mac money on one of those- grab a drugstore brand!

damn this is a sexy lipgloss! it is a bright and warm coral (more orange than pink but the pink is definatly there in the undertones.) i find that this is indispensible in the summer, with some bronzer, it gives me a very tropical look.

this is the first eyeshadow i ever brought, when i was sixteen, and it is a classic. it looks so pretty when its applied and it brings out my brown eyes beautifully. it is a unique colour, a purple plum, and the gold sparkles are perfect with this shade. if this ran out i would repurchase, however, i am twenty two now and it is still over half full!

this blusher is very pretty once applied and it gives you a vivrant, yet sweet, healthy glow. i knew this blush would suit me as soon as i saw it (i am a north indian, nars shade barcelona), although it looks bright red in the pan, its actually a pinky red and it compliments my brown eyes beautifully.

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
empressraje 12/16/2005 3:24:00 PM
this is a very over hyped product, a MA who was trying to sell me this recently told me this is the #1 selling mascara in the world. i don't know if this true or not but like i told her- it's really not that great. the main problem with this mascara is it's clumpy consistency. because of this consistency, there is always too much on the brush, then when you apply it, it clumps the lashes together. it takes alot of time and work to make this mascara look good- even if you are a skilled mascara junkie like me!

Eyeliner -Estee Lauder - Artist's Eye Pencil
empressraje 12/16/2005 3:13:00 PM
i have this in softsmudge black and it is simply the best black eyeliner. the texture and quality are excellent but what is really fantastic about this eyeliner is the fact that it defines and highlights the eyes, to perfection. this eyeliner makes eyes look really pretty, without you having to layer on lots of it. depending on what look you want, you can apply this eyeliner with/without using the smudger at the other end. without smudging, you get the traditional defined look of an eyeliner, and with smudging you get a gorgeous smokey look, yet without losing definition.

Lipstick -NARS - Niagara

what an incredibly gorgeous colour! i discovered this colour accidently at the end of a shopping trip with my cousin in harvey nichols.i had just purchased a couple of nars products and my cousin was paying for orgasm blush. it was closing time and as i waited i grabbed this lipstick and popped it on without even looking in the mirror. we left and we went for a meal and when i checked my lips (to make sure there was no crumbs of garlic bread stuck to my lips!) i saw how beautiful this colour was, but ofcourse harvey nichols was closed and i had to wait (impatiently) till the next day to purchase it. this colour is the perfect coral and i would recommend it to warm toned ladies in particular- i am south asian (north indian) and i wear nars foundation shade barcelona.

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
empressraje 12/1/2005 8:08:00 AM
usually i avoid drugstore brands but i brought this mascara as it is in every make up artist's bag. the positive-it does make your lashes look pretty. the negative- it flakes, little flakes end up on your face as soon as you comb this mascara through. this mascara is not for me, i like long, full lashes and you can't achieve that with this mascara. however, if it is a natural look you are after then you should try it, and at least if you don't like it you can just throw it out and not feel bad about the cost!

Concealers -Rimmel - Hide the Blemish
empressraje 12/1/2005 7:55:00 AM
omg i think rimmel concealers are being damaged on the way to america! i cant even bear to read bad things about this concealor; i have this in natural beige and its texture is dry yet creamy, exactly like nars concealers which have the same sort of lipstick packaging. the colour is EXACTLY the colour of ysl touche eclat #1. i mean exactly, as i have been buying both this and touche eclat ever since i started wearing make up. i always buy this concealer to keep in my make up bag, it only costs about £3 here in england and i have to say that if you love touche eclat but want more coverage- use this. (with or without the touche eclat!)

Bronzers -BeneFit Cosmetics - HOOLA
empressraje 11/24/2005 4:25:00 PM
i love bronzers. i think they make eveyone look healthier because they give a "warm and tan" look and they make eveyone look prettier because they highlight your cheek structure. this is one is without doubt the best because it does the job best- theres no orange tone to it, its the perfect brown. as soon as you put it on, you look better, simple as that.
