Polishes -Zoya - Wednesday
emmeline24 5/28/2012 11:25:00 AM
Zoya Wednesday is a 2012 summer release from the "Beach" collection. It is a muted sea-glass aqua creme, not quite blue but not quite green. It does have a retro feel to it, but still quite modern. I swatched it next to the closest shade in my collection, Sephora by OPI Ocean Love Potion; although they are definitely in the same shade family, Wednesday is lighter and more vivid than OLP. I adore it on my warm medium/olive tone skin, and I bet it will look even better with a tan. Very summery feel, and a very happy color. I love it! Can't wait to wear it more often.

Lip Treatments -Nuance by Salma Hayek - Hydrating Balm Rose Petal
emmeline24 10/9/2011 8:15:00 AM
I was really surprised how much I liked this lip balm! When I saw "rose petal" as the scent/flavor, I just assumed it was going to be a CO Bigelow Rose Salve knock-off, but I was very wrong. The Nuance balm is denser, creamier and richer. When I put it on, it stays there and doesn't "slip off" as I find the Bigelow balm does. I have started putting it on overnight, and when I wake up, I can feel that the balm has lasted. My lips are softer, plumper and smoother, too.
I actually prefer the rose flavor to the Bigelow, too - it's sweeter (but not cloying), but still has that rose petal essence.
My only negative comment would be the pot that it comes in. I find the screw-top lid to be a bit challenging. It was designed to twist into a "locked" position (which I do think is a great idea) but you really have to get it twisted in and out of there juuuuuuust right to make it lock and unlock. I've gotten the hang of it now, but in the beginning I left it unlocked quite often out of frustration. Also, I'm not so crazy about sticking my fingers into a pot for a product (especially lip balm), but I do like what's in there enough to put that issue aside. (Plus, the balm can be rubbed on cuticles too - added bonus!) Overall, this balm won't replace my Jack Black balm for during the day, but this one has quickly become part of my night-time routine, and I'm loving every moment of it. A definite keeper, despite a few complaints.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Shine Sensational Pop Sticks in Fruit Punch 130
emmeline24 7/28/2011 10:01:00 PM
I cannot believe how much I love this lippie! Translucent stick with a fruity-reddish pink jell-o effect. The color payoff is sheer, but a few layers give a soft pop of color, which is EXACTLY what I like the in summer. It gives you that "just-ate-a-popsicle" look and it wears off evenly. It feels moisturizing, and lasts a long time (for me, anyway). This is the look I always hope to achieve with lipstains and never quite get. I'm actually kind of sad this is probably a LE... I'm thinking about heading back to the store for a backup!

Polishes -Revlon - Top Speed - Cloud #710
emmeline24 5/26/2011 10:16:00 PM
Loved this color in the bottle... on me, not so much. I have medium yellow-toned skin, and this blueish/lavender was a contrasting "pop" of color, but it also amplified the redness of my fingertips. It was also REALLY streaky. I had to apply 3 coats to get rid of cuticle drag and patchiness. Definitely not an issue I run into with the Revlon Top-Speed polishes, so this might be due to the light/pastel shade. Either way, this one just wasn't a winner for me.

Lotions/ Creams -Eucerin - Dry Skin Therapy Plus Intensive Repair Body Creme
emmeline24 3/19/2011 6:57:00 PM
I cannot believe how wonderful this lotion is!! It saved my poor, scaly, itchy skin this winter. It even helped soothe an area that recently had a mild eczema outbreak. It will probably be too rich for me to use when the warmer weather comes, but I'll gladly put it away for the next cold season. Definitely a great find!

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - HiP Metallic Duo - Enchantress (Limited Edition)
emmeline24 11/9/2010 5:50:00 AM
I'm surprised this hasn't been reviewed yet! Enchantress is a LE duo; L'Oreal put it out with a Fall/Winter collection that seemingly jumps on the vampire bandwagon. That being said, don't let the fad theme steer you away from this product! The lighter side of the duo is a shimmery mushroom taupe (darker than the shade in the "Electrified") and the darker side is a flat black. I used the black side wet as a liner, and I was pretty impressed with the staying power and concentrated color. The taupe worked well on me as an all-over lid/crease color (I'm pretty much NC25), but it's a bit too dark to be used as a browbone highlighter. I think the taupe is neutral enough for all skintones, too. Very versatile!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous Million Lashes
emmeline24 10/21/2010 10:24:00 PM
I think I've tried every drugstore mascara there is to try. I've recently been alternating between Maybelline The Falsies (eh), Maybelline Full & Soft (not bad) and L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black (eh). I saw this and I had to try it. I adore it. I haven't reached for a single one of those other tubes since getting Million Lashes. It gives me decent coverage, it's a good dark black, goes on smooth and doesn't clump. The only problem I find is that it does flake off towards the end of my day, but I find that happens with all of L'Oreal's mascaras. All in all, I think I've finally found the mascara I've always wanted at the drugstore.

Polishes -Color Club - Pucci-licious
emmeline24 6/30/2010 5:03:00 PM
A bright, fun purple creme that just pops! Color appears lighter in the bottle than it shows up on the nail, but two coats gives smooth, even coverage. Perfect for pedis, but makes a great mani too. My perfect summer purple!

Lipstick -Rimmel - Moisture Renew - Coral Shimmer
emmeline24 5/1/2010 8:41:00 AM
I had my eye on this lippie for quite some time until I caved. I'm so glad I did! I love wearing coral lipstick in the spring/summer, but it's difficult to find a coral shade that's not too grandma-like at the drugstore. This one fits the bill quite nicely! First off, it's a soft coral, so it's not too bright. It seems to be the perfect balance between pink and orange. The shimmer is rather frosty, but it's not high-beam pearl, so the shimmer just highlights your lips in the right places to make them seem fuller. I have very warm light-to-medium skin and it brightens my complexion perfectly. For my skin tone and lip color, a light swipe of this lippie doesn't provide much color, so I do layer it on a bit to get the color payoff I want. Doesn't dry out my lips and the moisture it provides is nice. Consistency of the lipstick is light (yay!), and the taste is a little strange, but I can ignore it because I really love wearing it. I know the purple packaging is cheap-looking, but I really love purple, so it makes me smile. Overall, I thought this was a nice little gem in the new Rimmel lippies.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Color Icon #252B Nutty
emmeline24 4/2/2010 7:05:00 PM
I just picked this up on a whim and tried it out today. I thought it was brown in the store, but it turned out to be more of a taupe when I got it home. I'm very warm toned, and sometimes cool taupes can be tricky to pull off, but this was a pleasant surprise. I love this shadow! It's nicely pigmented but it's still sheer, so a wash of color was all I needed to put a little something on my eyes. Shimmer is quite nice too. I paired it with a thin line of black liquid liner and a touch of black mascara; it's a perfect simple eye look. Even better, it looks nice and understated behind my dark-rimmed glasses. I see myself reaching for this shadow a lot this summer!

Blush -NARS - Orgasm Blush
emmeline24 1/18/2010 9:40:00 AM
I cannot believe I waited so long before getting on the NARS Orgasm blush train! I never reach for any of my other blushes now that I have this beauty. It adds just the right amount of color and complexion-flattering shimmer and lasts all day. I remember when I first opened the compact, I was a little startled by the brightness of the shade, but it really translates into a natural flush, especially on my light/medium warm skin. Love it!

Eyeliner -Kat Von D - Tattoo Liner
emmeline24 1/3/2010 7:58:00 PM
After reading the reviews here, I knew I had to check out this liner. Even now that I own it, I'm still in disbelief over it. Why haven't other m/u companies made liquid liner like this?!?! The tip is pointed perfection!! I use it almost every day because it gives my eyes definition without being overpowering. I adore it! If this came in purple I would probably be in eyeliner heaven. Yes, it's a bit pricey. I'm not sure how long it will last, either, because there's no way of telling how much product is left, but I can definitely see myself shelling out the $18 again to keep lining my eyes with such precision.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Dr. Pepper lipsmackers
emmeline24 9/3/2009 8:48:00 AM
This is one of those cheap staples that I have repurchased over the years thinking, "I forgot about this!" (I think I had my first tube of this stuff in junior high, and I loved it then.) I recently got another tube (under $2... who could beat that) and I find myself reaching for it in my purse all the time. I'm addicted once again. The flavor, the slight flush of red color... all great. ETA: I still love this stuff, but if my lips are chapped (like now, in the dead of winter), it stings a bit too much for my liking. I'll probably reserve it for spring/summer/autumn and stick to more moisturizing formulas in the meantime.

Lipstick -Lipstick Queen - Saint Berry
emmeline24 9/3/2009 8:42:00 AM
Since discovering Poppy King and her Lipstick Queen line, I have gotten several from the "Saint" line (Rouge, Natural and Rust), and Saint Berry is my most recent acquisition. It is definitely my favorite! The color is a terrific shade of berry, bright and not muddy, plus it is build-able into a more opaque shade. I got lots of compliments on it, too. I love LQ's formula - it's so light, creamy and makes my lips feel very soft. I see myself wearing this A LOT in the future. Love your stuff, Poppy!!

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - BORBA Nutraceutical Lip Tint Cashmere Fiber Lip Balm
emmeline24 8/21/2009 12:44:00 PM
I actually found this balm at T.J. Maxx for under $5, and I was pleasantly surprised. I absolutely love the light, silky texture, and softening quality of this balm. The previous review was right - it does not last long at all, but I don't mind reapplying because the taste/scent is heavenly. (I found myself reapplying often because of that!) When I saw another nude shade on the Ulta clearance rack, I picked it up as a backup. Would I purchase this again for its full price? No. If I found it again for $5? Absolutely. It's a nice product, but not for more $ than that.
