Palettes -Bobbi Brown - Pretty
rated 5 of 5
elemere 11/16/2012 10:14:00 AM

This is a review for Pretty Powerful to Go Eye Palette that contains four powder eyeshadows - a cream colored shadow, a sparkly grey called Pebble, Taupe and a dark brown called Chocolate Caviar. These eye palettes are the perfect blend of great eyeshadow, in wonderful packaging. This is my go-to eye shadow. I use the lightest color for lids and highlight under the brow, the taupe for the brow bone, and the darkest color for the outer corner, and if I want to go smoky, the lash line. This is perfect every day makeup. Plus, the palettes are nearly indestructible. Love, love love having all the shadow I need in one container. While other shadows might suffice, their packaging tends to break in my makeup bag - and that includes even the expensive shadows- like MAC. Bobbi Brown palettes tend to be seasonal and occasional offerings, so snap them up when you see some colors you like!

Lipstick -L'Oreal - sunwash 857
rated 5 of 5
elemere 11/16/2012 9:54:00 AM

This is the lipstick that I always have in my makeup bag. The shade is the perfect complement to my coloring, the consistency is nice, and it looks good with most eyeshadows. I do have to reapply during the day, but I have yet to find a lipstick that truly lasts all day, so that is no problem. I like to add gloss on top - which can just add shine, or a pop of brighter color - depending on the gloss. Not sure what I would do if they ever discontinued - it's tough to find a good, everyday color that works as well as this.

Loose Powders -BeneFit Cosmetics - Bluff Dust
rated 4 of 5
elemere 11/16/2012 9:39:00 AM

This powder has a fine texture and a yellow tint. My skin is olive, so a little yellow goes a long way. That's why I mainly use it around my eyes, and near my nose (especially if it's raw from a cold) I find it adds just the right amount of correction to make my eyes look more awake, and my nose less raw. It's not an essential product, as I don't use it every day, but it works nicely, and lasts a long time. I especially love the packaging and the puff that comes with it. The container is very durable and the puff is quite soft and presses into the skin nicely.

Powder -MAC - Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
rated 5 of 5
elemere 11/16/2012 9:33:00 AM

This is the finishing powder for you if you work in front of the camera. Whether I wear it over foundation, or simply treat a few spots with concealer and follow up with Studio Fix, this has a way of making my skin look flawless. I use it with a kabuki brush and work it into my skin for a more natural look. For touch ups (on my nose or chin) during the day, I pat with the included sponge. MAC products have more pigment, and less filler in their powders - thus the wonderful results. Can be tricky to get the right color - I tend to go between NC 35 and NC 42 - so I buy both and blend. Would also recommend for brides looking for picture- perfect makeup for their big day.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Extra-Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner
rated 1 of 5
elemere 12/16/2011 4:25:00 PM

Went on MakeupAlley today for the express purpose of warning people about this eyeliner. I love L'Oreal products- love them - so thought that this would be a slam dunk. Not so. Very smeary, very difficult to sharpen, and by the time you get a good point, you've lost much of the pencil. I won't be buying this again. So frustrating! Will be looking for a good liquid liner, and going back to my MAC pencils.

Lip Treatments -Bliss Labs - Spiff Upper Lip
rated 1 of 5

I am 51, and used to smoke and have some sun damage. If you have vertical lines in your lip, this will do absolutely nothing to correct them, or even camoflage the lines. If you have my lip line issues, do save your money because this will NOT help.

Styling Products -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Hair Serum
rated 5 of 5
elemere 3/23/2009 12:55:00 PM

This absolutely saved my hair. I had dry, straw-like ends that made my hair look horrible. Trimming only lasted so long, conditioner on the ends made it look greasy - I just didn't have any ideas what to do. I had tried this hair serum before, and didn't think it worked, because I put it all over my head. Thought it made it look flat and limp. Then, I got the bright idea to just put it on my ends when wet and nowhere else on my hair. Voila! Perfection. The dry, straw-like ends are a thing of the past! My hair is very, very fine - so it doesn't work to put elsewhere- just weighs it down. But on my ends it was the very thing I needed to transform my hair. Now, I'm never without it.

Styling Products -Kenra - Volume Spray - Super hold finishing spray
rated 5 of 5
elemere 3/23/2009 12:48:00 PM

A girlfriend turned me on to Kenra since she has thin hair like me. I bought it all- shampoo, conditioner, hair spray - and loved it all, but I just had to write about the Volume Spritz. My hair just wants to cling to my head in a fine, limp string, so I'm used to coaxing it into behaving more like a full head of hair with volume sprays, round brush, velcro curlers, hair dryer. This makes my job so much easier. The spritz really plumps up the volume and then holds for the rest of the day. Makes me forget what my hair is really like, until I use something else on the weekend, and it retreats into it's limpness again. This is so very expensive that I try to make it last, but well worth it.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Lash Out
rated 5 of 5
elemere 3/23/2009 12:39:00 PM

This is the mascara I return to again and again. It makes your lashes thicker and longer, doesn't smear and doesn't run. Whenever I try something else, I'm always disappointed. This is the mascara that I judge all other mascaras by - - so far, have not found anything that comes close to this performance for the price. Thank you, L'Oreal!

Fragrances -Prada - Infusion d'iris edp
rated 5 of 5
elemere 3/23/2009 12:26:00 PM

Prada Milano Eau de Parfum I first smelled this fragrance in a magazine insert and went on a hunt to find it. It's not available everywhere, so it took me an entire year. Finally, I was in Honolulu for vacation, and saw a Prada store, and there it was. Despite the hefty price, I bought a large bottle and brought it home. It's a rich, heady fragrance that makes you smell elegant and sexy. I never fail to be complimented on the aroma. Love this!

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
rated 1 of 5
elemere 3/23/2009 12:12:00 PM

I simply do not understand why anyone raves about this mascara. It does nothing to build or extend lashes, it runs horribly, and irritates my eyes. I end up only hours later with black under my eyes, and lashes that don't look like I've done anything to them. When it gets reviewed well, I think maybe they've reformulated, so I try it again, and nope - still is the worst mascara I've ever worn. L'Oreal is the best mascara, and I continue to regret it when I believe the ads and try something new.

Eye Makeup Remover -Neutrogena - Oil Free eye makeup remover
rated 1 of 5
elemere 3/23/2009 12:08:00 PM

While I usually love Neutrogena products, this one did not impress. Although it is gentle, and did remove foundation thoroughly, it did nothing to budge my mascara and eye makeup. After washing my entire face with One Step gentle cleanser, I looked in the mirror to see that I needed to wash again, and then finally put some of the cleanser on a washcloth and rub and rub and RUB. If you are indeed looking for one step makeup removal, in my experience, this might be TOO gentle to do any real makeup removal.

Treatments (Eye) -Neutrogena - Radiance Boost Eye Cream
rated 1 of 5
elemere 9/21/2008 1:42:00 PM

The product implies it increases "radiance" of the eye area and reduces dark circles and puffiness. No, not even close. It's of super light consistency, and is gone within seconds of application. It doesn't appear to do much of anything, except provide some momentary moisture. It also smells funky with an odor that won't be described here for fear of insulting someone. Neutrogena usually makes good products - not sure what happened here.

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Boi-ing
rated 3 of 5
elemere 9/21/2008 1:32:00 PM

I have to amend this review, since it seems they have reformulated to make the consistency thinner. Now I'm not quite the fan of it I was before, and find myself grabbing for the MAC concealer far more often. Not sure why BeneFit messed with this concealer, and why they had to get rid of my favorite IT stick, but as a result, I don't buy BeneFit products nearly as much. This is what I had previously said about the product, but it doesn't hold true with the new formulation: One of the very best for concealing dark shadows, discoloration and pimples. I love to give people makeovers, and when my friends complain that there is NOTHING that can hide their dark undereyes, I love to pop this on them. They can't believe the results, and then have to buy some Boi-ing for themselves. And no, I'm not a makeup artist or in any way connected to the biz. Just know a good product when I try it. Poi-fect!

Highlighters -Guerlain - Les Meteorites Ball Powder Beige Chic 03
rated 4 of 5
elemere 9/21/2008 1:27:00 PM

This is my very first purchase of Meteorites. I bought it after a friend raved about it. What this product does is very subtle, but the difference is enough that I find myself addicted! Adds sort of an air-brushed glow to your face. You can use it to add a finishing touch on your makeup, or to add a little glow if you are going barefaced. It's just the tiniest sparkle- definitely not glitter - that fools the eye into thinking that you have better skin. As far as the beige goes - it's not all that dark, especially if you have olive skin -- so I did need a bronzer and blush afterwards. I found the pinker Meteorites was a better choice for making me look refreshed-even without blush. If you have a pinkish tinge to your skin already, the pink Meteorites would be too much, but my skin is olive, so it works nicely for me. The beige is good if you do plan on adding blush or bronzer later.
